West Virginia just did to Missouri what KU did to them last season. Down 16 point with 7 minutes left, by 12 with under 5 minutes and started to apply that pressure we have seen it before and steals the game and wins by 4. The refs tried to help MU with 2 bad foul calls in the last minute but MU could not capitalize. Good win for the conference.
The NBA started the one year wait for purely selfish and business reasons, they wanted to see prospect play for one year so they could better evaluate their pro potential.
College should be able to get some return on their investment by having players stay longer than one year.
The baseball rule fits the bill. If a player wants to go pro after HS he can do it but forfeits playing college. If a player decides to go to college, he has to wait 3 year before joining the League. The NBA ready players get to go immediately after HS and the ones that are not have at least 3 years to prepare. Win-win.
Think about it...by the end of the semester we could be adding 3 top 35 players. By itself it would be a top 5-10 class and KU gets it as a bonus at the mid-term and it is probably unprecedented in college basketball.
Wasn’t this season the one we were going to see progress? I seem to recall most posters, including me, had high hopes and 5 or eleven 6 wins seemed realistic based on the hype. I seem to recall poster(s) projecting the defensive line to be one of the better if not the best in the conference...so much for that.
In conference KU lost to WVU by 22, TTU by 46, was held scoreless against ISU and TCU by a combined 88-0, lost to KSU in the closest game of the conference schedule by 10 and then to the next worse team Baylor by 29,Texas by 25, Oklahoma by 38 and finished the season losing to OSU by 41. When you look at all the numbers, it is even worse than the most pessimistic projections.
Progress? I don’t see no stinking progress, pardon the grammar. What are the realistic expectations for next year? Definitely not 5 or 6 games, fool me once...I just don’t see winning any conference games and unless the pre-con schedule is loaded with Juco teams I don’t see running the table on those as Big 5 teams routinely do.
KU seems to be caught in a catch 22 situation, cannot fire Beaty and send the wrong message and should not keep Beaty when it appears progress is not being made. Didn’t decent prospects sign thinking the team would be better only to back off when it turned out to be the ol’, same ol’? Fans see it, prospects see it, other programs laugh at us...when is the administration going to remove the blinders and see it?
Seems to me a big executive decision is needed and Zenger is not the person to do it; in fact, an executive decision on Zenger himself should be forthcoming and under no circumstance he should be allowed to select yet another football coach. At least we can be thankful he will not be selecting a basketball coach and ruining a century of success.
I never understood why the entire state and KC Metro area was blacked out. Most smaller towns do not have a choice of cable providers and in the KC Metro area only TW and Comcast carry Metro Sports and the three other carriers, AT&T, Consolidated and Google, are left out; realistically, most people, even those not stuck in a contract, will not change providers for 6 games. Maybe they think AFH will not sell out which is utterly laughable.
Whoever reviewed the contract probably never heard of the law of unintended consequences and in my opinion, the rules were just changed now that Zenger’s job is in jeopardy. This utter disregard for Kansans alone justifies firing Zenger.
Do you think Zenger is trying to appease all the POd donors in Johnson County that want him gone and now that the football program is circling the drain and about to take him along he is looking for friends?
I like Coach Mangino and I thought he got a raw deal with the way he was fired. However, it would be naive to state as a fact that his weight did not affect his coaching. Contemporaneous stories appear to indicate it did.
FWIW, apparently the kids stole not from one or two but three different luxury stores and they have it all on security tape. Had the President not intervened, which I still think he should not have, they were facing up to 10 years in jail, and I don’t mean the luxury hotel where they were temporarily detained. Safe to say that if mid-Ball or the other 2 players do not make it to the NBA, China is out of the question; stupid way to cut your options.
I agree with @mayjay on this. Excess weight, or in Mangino’s case morbid obesity, almost always result in negative self image and the resulting consequences he mentioned. Also, it extremely unhealthy and often results in life threatening conditions. I lost 25 pounds this summer (I was somewhat heavier than I should be but nothing excessive) and I can tell you that I feel now a lot better physically and mentally. Last but not least, being that overweight sends a negative message to the players about physical conditioning; you will notice that most coaches look pretty fit.
Let’s see, when was the las time KU had 5 or 6 win? 5 or 6 wins sounds pretty good now.
Don’t you guys get it? He brings the “party favors”. 😉😉
The rules calls for a T when a player hangs from the rim after a dunk. Players are not allowed to pull themselves up on the rim, nor are they allowed to hang on the rim after a dunk attempt, unless they are doing so to avoid injury to themselves or another player.
FWIW, Fox is considered by many respected analysts as the fastest player in the NBA...and he has played only a handful of games...
Didn't Larry Bird steal one like that in a playoff game?
Fox has off the charts talent and he is just getting his feet wet; keep in mind that he played only one year of college an he is very young and inexperienced while Mason played 4 year and is older and more experienced. I love Mason as much as anyone here but I have to admit that Fox's ceiling is higher than Mason; will he achieve that ceiling? ...who knows.
Your comment reminds me of conversations I have with friends:
Me: Did you watch the xxx-xxx game last night?
Friend: No, the NBA is crap and unwatchable and they play no defense.
Me: How often do you watch NBA games?
Friend: I don't because the NBA is crap and unwatchable and they play no defense.
Me: If you don't watch, how do you know the NBA is crap and unwatchable and they play no defense?
Friend: Because everybody knows the NBA is crap and unwatchable and they play no defense.
Me: Right...
BTW, Fox got the biggest shoe contract of any player in his recruiting class; obviously the shoe companies believe he will be great.
I can’t believe they let ND steal the ball on the inbound that got them within one.
Embiid with 28-12 against Portland.
Wichita State is a solid team with no major weaknesses; Frankamp is playing well.
Arizona losing was a surprise. Ayton went off for 27 points and 14 rebounds and Trier also had 27 points, the rest of the team had 30 points combined.
The available information to date indicates that no team player was involved so I just don’t see any announcement coming from the AD, and since the City Police Department took over the investigation, I don’t see one coming from KU any time soon either. All schools and not just KU prefer to keep this type of incident off the front pages.
Those cops tackle much better than KU players. I wonder if they have any eligibility left.
I like Hogan's Heroes.
I have been advocating firing Zenger for a while now; most stupid contract ever signed. Only 4 men's games are going to be on channel 38 including the one yesterday. Luckily the rest are either on regular ESPN, ESPN 2 or the networks and the Nebraska game is on Fox Sports.
In 1982 Chaminade beat then 8-0 #1 Virginia that featured phenom and 3 times Naismith POY Ralph Sampson in one the biggest upsets of all time.
Denny's used to have breakfast sandwich called the Dagwood but it was discontinued a while back...I really liked the Dagwood...:disappointed:
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. - Jim Valvano
I know, A dump truck or a snow plow (lots of accidents with those) would have been much better examples without using unnecessary hyperbole. Of course no one drives those as personal transports.

As long as I get to have my buffers, I'm cool. :-)
Good for you! "Buffer-in" will help with the pain of hitting a nerve.
As I recall, it was established that the incident happened while the team was on its way back from KC and they were potential witnesses after the fact but not at all involved in the incident itself.
I am curious to know what really went on behind closed doors.
If you are in Fort Riley, home of the Big Red One, you will see lots of the first two but not many or any at all in your average drive around any town. You might see armored carriers under special circumstances (9/11 around government property) or the occasional SWAT armored truck but you will not see tanks in any urban setting unless they are riding on a semi since their tracks tear the pavement up and the very expensive tracks wear out quickly. The Terex? it is not even highway legal.
Your chance of getting into an accident with one of these vehicles is pretty much ZERO so why bring them into the discussion?...that was my point.

@JayHawkFanToo My teachers, and yours, too (probably), always said a preposition was an improper thing to end a sentence with. Usually, you could see about half the class wondering why the other half was laughing.
I see what you did . However, according to linguists, ending a sentence with a preposition is mostly a myth and has been considered acceptable ↗ for a long time; at least this what my teachers taught me. As you showed, often enough removing the preposition results in better syntax and a more readable sentence as in...preposition was an improper thing to end a sentence. No laughs.
Off your meds today?
...and how many armored personnel carriers, tanks and Terex MT 6300AC do you see in the streets? SMH.
The whole hoopla is because of Mayfield who is the leader for the Heisman Trophy and not KU which is mentioned only because it is where it happened. Again, readers are clicking on the stories because Mayfield and not KU who is now just a footnote, albeit an unfortunate one.
Good school with very good academic reputation and no issues that I can remember. I would think it makes Vandy the leader for Langford now. I am sure they will find a way to reassign the scholarships so everyone is covered.
I had saved this link ↗ before and maybe this is the right time?
Growing pains. Devonte is just starting to become comfortable with his new role as leader of the team. He is fine and will only get better.
Lightfoot playing Center is way out of his comfort zone and skill level; playing with Doke makes him a lot more effective.
Larger cars are inherently safer. My brother got older Expeditions for his 3 HS-college aged sons and one of them was in a serious accident but he was largely unscathed; had he been driving a small compact car he would not have been so lucky. Something to ponder.
Based on the games I have seen so far for many team including several top ten 10, I can say that KU's best game is likely better than any other team's best game including Duke. The question is whether it can bring this level or a close version of it to the big games, particularly in the NCAA Tournament, instead of playing the worst game of the season at a critical time.
You are absolutely correct in your comments but it seems that those who think this way are in the minority anymore. Unfortunately we live in a society that no longer strives for improvement towards excellence but caters to the lowest common denominator.
For example, you can see just about all the younger kids repeating the words to rap lyrics without even realizing what they are saying. A few weeks ago when my grandson and girlfriend (both Johnson County teens) stopped by and kept repeating rap lyrics playing on his cell phone, I pulled the lyrics on the laptop and had him read them slowly. He was absolutely embarrassed not as much by the atrocious English but most of all for their misogynistic words; I don't believe either had really thought about what they were parroting. I guess it is politically incorrect to point out the damage this type of rap music causes to our society and particularly black culture; easier to blame the cops than rap stars.
PS. This is NOT a political statement by my personal view on the status of our society.
You are correct insofar I thought Whitman would be a better option to fill the void with the bigs; KU could certainly use him now but I am sure he never imagined the play time that would become available just about now.
I seem to recall someone posting he is not playing anywhere now and a quick check of the NCAA Div. I-III does not show any Jack Whitman. How many kids pass on a chance to play for a blue blood to just fade into obscurity? I am curious to know what really happened to the 'stache.
If I recall correctly, Juiston was definitely Division I material but ended up at JuCo for other personal reasons and it is not surprising he did well there and now at UNLV.
Live Stats at the KU Athletics site had Vick listed as Cunliffe the majority of the game, even had his picture posted. 😂
Unfortunately the KU players and HC did it to themselves by bringing attention to the already pathetic program and amplified it by making it unsportsmanlike as well...at least and at long last the season that started with so much hope is almost over.
Coach Self has indicated that he will not be adding a player unless he is sure he will contribute, he has also said many time that by conference playing time he prefers a 7-8 man rotation. KU is currently playing a 7 man rotation and once Cunliffe becomes available it will become an 8 man rotation.
There are two primary reasons why an athlete plays JuCo, either grades or he is not good enough to play in the higher divisions. As good as a player is in JuCo it does not mean he is good enough for Division I.
I know that Normore has been mentioned as a precedent, but the memory of his contribution is perhaps larger than the reality. While he played about 9 mpg, he contributed 1 assist and 1 turnover, less than 1 rebound and less than 2 points per game; any of the current deep bench players can do better than this and I seriously doubt Coach Self will pull the trigger and the former JuCo player is a very long shot at best...but I could be wrong. 🤪
The Big 12 as now publicly reprimanded Mayfield ↗ and also the four KU captains ↗. What a pathetic situation.
