From various sources...

Kansas coach Bill Self spoke to the media Monday, telling reporters he was “worried” about the status of five-star freshman Billy Preston.

“Sure I’m worried,” Self told reporters. “Yeah, I”m concerned. I do think it can work itself out based on what I’ve been told, but I also think it obviously hasn’t happened yet.”

Sounds like Coach Self is frustrated and the situation is not looking good. How difficult is to get an straight answer from Billy and family about the origin of the car? It really should not be that hard.

Sounds to me like Billy and family are hedging on giving a straight answer and trying to come up with a plausible explanation with no luck so far. If something went on and the NCAA imposes sanctions on Billy, the most optimistic outcome would be joining the team around the time Cunliffe and DeSousa do.

Ah yes, the patented Jaybate...if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with the bull.

Yes, I remember that in the title game, UK played primarily 6 players but we were not talking about 1 game but a season long rotation. The 7th player was #17 ranked 5-star Kyle Wiltjer who averaged close to 12 mpg, doubled it on his sophomore year and went to become consensus 2nd team All-American and pre-season POY at Gonzaga.

As far as Cunliffe and Garret, yes, I watched replays and highlight and read reports and articles about the games in Italy as well as the Late Night and the topic was discussed extensively and contemporaneously in this and other forums and the consensus was that Cunliffe would not see much playing time and that Garret exceeded expectations. A quick review of late Summer threads on the subject would have given you enough information to not post uninformed comments like...Cunliffe will retire Garret...to use your favorite expression...howling. Cunliffe transferred because he did not see a lot of playing time in his future at Arizona State, what makes you think he will fare better at KU?

You can howl as much as you want but based on what we have seen to date from both players, your opinion runs contrary to the consensus.

Now you can howl some more.

@Gorilla72 @Crimsonorblue22

Thanks for the info. This is very serious condition that if true will certainly end his season and could mean the end of his basketball career. I hate to see it on anyone but particularly on such as young and promising prospect.

On the iPad, when I get a notification and click on it, it takes me to a post and when I click on refresh, a bunch of new post show up underneath. I like the iPad because it has a big screen, it is light and I can use while watching tv; pretty convenient but with some issues.

Oops. You post did not show up until I refreshed the browser. When I use the iPad I have to constantly refresh otherwise recent posts don’t always show. I need to check the browser settings although I have noticed the same thing with Windows, when I scroll up the bottom posts disappear.

@wissox

It is being reported that Porter will be seeing an specialist ↗, apparently his injury is more serious than previously thought.

@jaybate-1.0

The 2012 UK team had 7 players that averaged double digit minutes.

Let me ask you a question, have you actually seen Garret and Cunliffe play? Cunliffe played in 4 games in Italy plus at late night and Garret in a few more and you if you watched them play you would know there is no way Cunliffe retires Garret who is arguably the best defensive player and can play the 1-4 positions. Garret has been the biggest surprise of the class and his contribution and playing time will only continue to increase; I just don’t see Cunliffe getting any substantial playing time and might be the odd man out.

@mayjay

Manute Bil was 7’-7” and had a NBA record wingspan of 8’-6”. Bol Bol is 7’-2” or taller, depending on the site, but his wingspan is 7’-8”. Advantage dad.

Big basketball watch afternoon/tonight • Nov 21, 2017 12:44 AM

WSU ends the game on a 14-2 run to win by 10. Experience really counted on this game.

A 5 or 6 man rotation is not feasible for an entire season, at least not in Division I BBall; players would be worn out by the end of the season. Coach Self has indicated that he like an 8-9 player rotation and this likely what it will be.

I am not sure Bol Bol can gain any more weight. Like his dad, he as a very thin frame and bones and will never be able to grow that frame.

@BeddieKU23

I just posted the usual breakdown for the conference in another thread and it is pretty close to what you have from KenPom. Looks like the conference is pretty solid so far.

The New Devonte Graham • Nov 20, 2017 05:46 PM

Mason had a couple of years to get ready to be the floor general and team leader. Devonte is just starting to get his feet wet so it will be some time before he is fully comfortable in his new role.

@mayjay

Lightfoot has the build of a SF, the attitude of a PF and has been forced into playing Center, not the ideal conditions to perform consistently well. He seems to have a decent outside shot and would be interesting to see him play SF but KU has plenty of capable players at that position and is extremely thin inside.

@KUSTEVE

I mentioned that before based on the KemPom analysis and I was told it was wrong, wrong, wrong.

The Big 12 has KU as a perennial contender and usually one or two teams with some potential, 4 or 5 that are legitimate top 20 and the rest usually solid top 50 with maybe 1 below that. Other conferences have two or three title contender a few more solid teams but the bottom half is soft. The Big 12 has been pretty solid top to bottom and finished consistently in the top 2 in recent years.

@justanotherfan

Late hits tend to be spur of the moment, frustration type of actions; I would be shocked if it was planned and I don’t believe any coaching staff would be that irresponsible...or stupid. The handshake though appears to be planned and reflects extremely poorly on the team, staff and the school at large. The lack of reaction/response by Beaty appears to indicate prior knowledge and acquiescence and could give Zenger cover to fire him. I don’t believe Zenger will fire Beaty since it would mean that he has to go as well.

News some of you can use. • Nov 20, 2017 04:33 PM

@wissox

I think the 2012-2013 tops that. Withey, Releford and Young all “red shirt” Seniors plus Johnson also a Senior. Most experienced team I can remember.

@KUSTEVE

With each day that goes by I see Preston getting more distant and Silvio being the more realistic addition.

Smart's heir apparent. • Nov 20, 2017 03:38 PM

@mayjay

Let me rephrase, you seem to be one of the few “questioning” whether Allen was hit or not and his reaction, everybody else seems to be convinced the video shows he pulled a Smart, regardless of alleged grazing or lack thereof. Better?

Alexander, Diallo...Preston? • Nov 20, 2017 03:30 PM

@HighEliteMajor

One of the reasons TRob was so good is because he had Withey guarding the basket. Withey is very underrated, he is not only the best shot blocker of the bunch but he altered even more shots and when he blocked shots he usually sent the ball towards another KU player resulting in KU getting possession of the ball.

Chorfs • Nov 20, 2017 12:05 AM

Losing to the Giants is as bad as it gets, almost KU bad.

Smart's heir apparent. • Nov 20, 2017 12:00 AM

@mayjay

It is all over the internet and I have yet to see anyone saying he was hit or touched...other than you, of course, not even ESPN.

Oscar wordy acting, extra points for the tears. :cry:

One thing that is being overlooked is how much better KU can get this season. KU will be adding at least one, Cunlife, and potentially two more, Preston and Silvio, top 50 players at or before the end of the year; no other school can make that claim.

LaVar , LaVar , LaVar - - Damn • Nov 19, 2017 11:45 PM

@mayjay

I said before and I will say it again, the president should not have gotten involved in this affair in the first place. Not his job and he wasted political capital doing it only to be rebuffed by Daddy Ball.

More importantly, he should quit posting on tweeter and I am sure we can all agree on this but unfortunately it is probably the way politics are now. SMH.

@mayjay

I was referring to student-athletes. The NCAA has no legal authority to demand/order that information be made available; all it can do is ask nice, provided it has cause to requests said information, and the only recourse it has is the threat of suspension of eligibility. I don't believe it can declare a student ineligible without proof otherwise it would open itself to a civil suit. It does have more authority with schools/programs since they agree to abide by the rules as part of being members and it can always retroactively impose sanctions. Schools have more leverage with students since they control the scholarship/money and can always dismiss the student from the program and cancel the scholarship and they can "suggest" to the student he cooperates or else...

@BeddieKU23

The NCAA does not have the legal power to force anyone to cooperate or provide any information. All it can do is tell the school that when information becomes available it can retroactively make the player ineligible with the corresponding consequences.

This situation better be resolved quickly or the FBI might take an interest in the case and become involved and that could have huge implications.

@Gorilla72

Now that is funny. Good thing I was not drinking coffee by the keyboard.

@wrwlumpy

Other than Reed the team does not have much height. It should be an interesting matchup for Doke.

@mayjay

I am not sure but we might be adding another one soon. KU should advertise the position as having the best retirement plan in the sport.

@truehawk93

I don’t believe he was suspended for the fender bender, he is being held back until the school is satisfied that the way he got the car did not violate NCAA rules that could result in KU forfeiting games in which he played if he is found to have indeed violated rules that would make him ineligible, makes sense?

This is why we are all wandering why is taking so long. I will guess KU wants to make sure it does its due diligence and that this episode does not come back to bite it in the arse while also being fair to Preston. Alexander was also preventively held back the same way even when he was not found officially to be ineligible. As they say, better safe than sorry.

Thoughts on SDSU game • Nov 19, 2017 06:18 AM

@Fightsongwriter

Ok, let me get this straight, you can state your opinion and I cannot express mine? Got it. I guess that makes YOU “that guy.”

@mayjay

I have corrected my post to reflect the statement I wrote did not apply to Calipari but to Sutton.

Again, don’t you think the presence of WWW and the access he has to players raises humongous red flags? Would yo be comfortable with WWW having the same access and influence at KU? I certainly would not. Have you ever wondered why he gets all these top prospects? Is he that good of a coach? He has had considerable more higher rated players than just about every other program including KU and yet he has the same number of titles as Coach Self and less than Coach K or Roy Williams so that is not it.

I know he was not directly implicated in the issues that resulted in the two programs he coached before having Final Four appearances forfeited, I have posted thay much before in previous threads; however, he was the head of those programs and is ultimately responsible for any thing that went on there.

I understand that in a court of law what you know to be true and what you can prove are two different things; however, this is a sports forum and not a court of law and we are not attorneys but sports fans, perhaps for a moment you can forget you are an attorney and cut us some slack and let us state our personal opinions without having to provide proof...they are just opinions after all and no one is stating them as facts, right?

LaVar , LaVar , LaVar - - Damn • Nov 19, 2017 05:02 AM

@REHawk

With all due respect you should do little research before you post incorrect statements. Ivanka Trump did not receive any “patents” from China, she did get “trademarks” for her name, a completely different thing and something business and individuals with recognizable names do routinely to prevent others from using and profiting from their names illegally. She and her firm have been doing this since long before her father even announced his candidacy and has 18 of those trademarks and and number more under review.

Again, why even involve her in something related to 3 idiots shoplifting in China?

@mayjay

Plausible deniability, the squid's specialty. When WWW is involved and has free access to the program and players, you know something is going on that is not exactly kosher. ~~Do you recall the money sent by FedEx? Do you think he did not know about it? Nobody got fired over it that I recall so there is an implied complicity and protection of the parties involved.~~
* the paragraph above is not related to Calipari but Sutton.

The law will eventually catch up with him.

Having said that, I agree with you that so far he has not been caught personally but, do you think he gets all these top prospects just because he is a good coach? Coach Self is a better coach at an elite program and has to sweat bullets to get the players he does.

LaVar , LaVar , LaVar - - Damn • Nov 18, 2017 07:55 PM

@REHawk

I did not defend the President but why bring his daughter into the fray? I am out.

@mayjay

In the case of the squid, having his two previous programs with vacated Final Fours make a reasonable person think there is a pattern, wouldn't you agree?
