Second and 23 and they allow a 24 yard run...SMH.
KU is clearly the leader on Grimes, Dotson and Zion and there is plenty of information to back that up. The information on Big Dave is not readily available only that he has made 9 unofficial visit, one official and one scheduled official to KU; seems logical that he would make all the available official visits.
The most recent predictions, including Jerry Meyer who many in the forum respect indicate OSU. KU would seem to be in a good place but no one has updated his prediction. McCormack has said the right things about the places he visited but not really given any indication on his final destination. McCormack might very well end up at KUand if KU gets the other 3 prospects, it could be one of the better classes ever.
As I have said before, the only sure prospect is the one that has signed a LOI, until then, every program is in play. Remember when Ayton was just about 100% KU? So much for that...😂
In boxing, a tomato can is a boxer with with few or no skills and no chance to win a fight that is selected by a contender to take a pounding and improve the opponent's record.
In basketball, there are a number of small programs that spend the first two months of the season traveling to play and take a pounding by bigger programs and earn a paycheck that provides the entire budget for the program.
In football we have the cupcake programs that travel to play elite programs, take a pounding and collect a big check.
I am afraid KU has become one of those programs and should start demanding big payouts to get pounded on the road.
Just in time to watch the game...which might not necessarily be a good thing baseon the first few minutes of the game.😡
You keep misquoting me even when I specifically said in two separate posts...I am not saying KU is not in play.
KU is very much in play but based on what I have read to date it is not the leader, OSU is by virtue of the relationship he has with the assistant coach there that was his AAU coach.
For the third time, I am not saying KU is not in play...
It sure does not sound like something Cozart would say based on his comments when he announced he was going to Boise State ↗.
Perhaps the wanting to win quote was taken from this story ↗.
Yes, AAU coaches can be a huge factor. Remember Beasley and Walker, two top players that would have never considered KSU ended up there because of their relationship with Delonte Hill in the AAU circuit.
I did not say KU is not in play, I just said that he does not seem to THE program in play at this time.
You talk about wasting an offcial visit...well, once he makes all five offcial visits will you said he wasted the four other official visits? I think not. Remember, he made 9 unofficial visits on his own dime.
I know the crystal ball is not the be all, end all of recruiting predictions; however, many of the raters (obviously not all) are well informed and competent analysts that have a lot more inside information than we do. You can take the individual prediction any way you want based on your opinion of the rater but, when you look at the overall trend, in most cases is not that bad and at this time KU dose not seem to be ahead of the other schools.
Again, I am not saying KU is not in play, obviously it is since he has scheduled an offcial visit but that is just an indicator that KU is in play, that is all. Do you know how many top players have taken offcial visit to KU and signed with other programs? It happens, it's the nature of the process.
As I said before, the only sure prospect is the one that has signed the LOI.
So, if you are not using his comments as the main reason, why do you think KU is in? The unofficial visit? He has made 9 unofficial visits so far.
Recruits always say good things about programs they visit, particularly if they plan to take an all expense paid official visit in the near future.
If you were a high end recruit, wouldn't you take all the allowed offcial visit where they treat you like royalty and send you home with some cool school gear to boot? I know I would.
McCormack is friends with OSU assistant coach David Kontaxis who has worked seven years with AAU programs in the Washington, D.C. area, including McCormack’s Team Loaded. McCormack was on an unofficial visit to OSU and apparently made a side trip to Lawrence although he is expected to make an offcial visit later on.
I am not saying that KU is not in play but if you take the comments of recruits after visit as the key, we would have gotten a heck of a lot more top players that visited and had glowing comments about KU. Wouldn't you agree?
That is crazy, it adds close top 500 miles to the trip and will take them through areas that were affected by Harvey which might require additional detours.
They must really want to go to New Orleans or maybe it is the great barbecue in Saint Louis that Cuonzo Martin just stated is better than Kansas City barbecue.
KU does not appear to be a likely destination for McCormack with OSU, Duke and Georgia being the candidates.
I have many friends in the Sarasota area where my dad resided before I moved him to Kansas. They were out of power for 48 hours but they have had the power back for while now and things seem to be pretty normal, at least in the parts of the town that are not next to the coast.
Sound like your area was hit pretty hard. Hopefully power return soon so you can all get back to normal...or something close to it...
According to the most recent Crystal Ball predictions which you can take them or leave them, here are the players in the top 50 KU is in the run...
- #26 Devon Dotson - KU-81%, Florida 19%
- #17 Quentin Grimes - KU - 100%
- #2 Zion Williamson - KU 43%, UK - 29%, Duke 14%, UNC - 7%
- #21 Emmitt Williams 0 Oregon, 67%, KU - 17%, Florida - 17%
- #49 Jalen Carey - Syracuse 71%, KU -14%
I would say KU is in great shape with Grimes and Dotson and good shape with Zion; nothing to be alarmed at this point.
Did you watch the OU-OSU game? OU absolutely dominated the then #2 team and it could have been a lot worse. If not for the two lost fumbles and missed FG in the first half, this game could have been over at half time and yet it was tied 3-3. After the first drive and TD of the second half by OSU, OU outscored them 28-6.
I was impressed on how good OU is; if they continue to improve, I think they have a real chance to take it all this year.
Didn't they say the same thing about Alabama last season? Obviously Clemson did not buy into the hype.
I disagree with you. As @Kcmatt7 pointed out, Kaepernick conveniently started his protest after he lost his starting spot and I have looked but not found any reference to him speaking on the subject before.
To me he is the worst kind of hypocrite. One one hand he protest against oppression by police against black people in our country and on the other hand he praises Castro who is one of the biggest oppressors in history with 100,000 people having been killed by his totalitarian regime and he led one of the most racist systems ever where black people are at the lowest rung economically and socially and jails in Cuba are full of mostly black people. Look at pictures of the Cuban ruling group, do you see a single black person? In Cuba jobs government jobs are meted out according to the color of your skin...if you don't believe me, ask any Cuban exile and they will tell you the truth about Castro. It always amazes me how the left has romantized Castro and even more Che Guevara who was nothing more than a blood thirsty sociopath with no redeeming values and whose favorite thing was to torture and kill people; I know, I have seen the results of his work first hand.
If he really believes his own narrative, I would suggest he goes to Cuba and protest the real oppression of black people there...of course he is not going to do this because it is easy to do it in a country like ours where he has the freedom to do it but not in Cuba where people do not have the freedom to protest or even express an opinion that does not conform to the official line...that would be real courage.
As wins go, OU had likely the best win of the season so far. It completely dominated the OSU on the road. The first half score does not show how dominant OU was and it should have been ahead by at least 2 TDs. Great win for OU and the conference and makes OU a real title contender.
He is listed now at 211...
Moose went from 220 to 210 pound at the end of the 2011 season and he has maintained that weight, At 6 foot, he does not seem to be overweight to me for a power hitter.
You keep thinking it is about race and politics. It is not; it is about the color green, as in money.
While we might agonize over our favorite team winning, the owners, the ones with the investment, think about making money first and winning second; for us is is entertainment and for them it is a business.
Regardless of what you and I think, CK is a QB with diminishing skills and on the down side of his career. At this point he is at best a backup QB but he still wants to be paid starter money. Also, and as a former QB recently stated, CK needs a unique system for his skill set and teams are not willing to revamp their offense for a backup QB, they prefer to have a less talented backup that fits their system.
Let's face it, a team that signs CK is bound to have huge issues with its fans and it will cost them a lot of money like it did the 49ers. Why would you want to take on some one that brings considerably more negative than positives from the business perspective? Again, to the men doing the hiring, football is a business not a hobby, why would you make a business decision that will surely lose you money?
This is exactly what I was thinking. Bender does not seem to have what it takes to lead the air attack. When it takes over 60 attempts to get 300 yard and throw two costly interceptions, it would appear to indicate that a new plan needs to be drafted.
Didn't someone post he would not mind interceptions on long passes? Uhm...no, the interceptions were killers yesterday.
Wheels are wobbling, how long before they come off?
That was my poorly made point. Smart has had quality players all along but the coaching has not been good. Last year ESPN had them as the pre-season Big 12 champion...right...they finished last.
Smart's coaching seat is warm now and another season in the bottom half of the conference will make it pretty hot.
Interesting article on ESPN ↗ about the top 5 defenses that include Texas as #5.
John Gasaway, the writer states...
"Texas finished last in the Big 12 in 2016-17, but you actually don't have to squint too hard to call it, on balance, a solid first 17 months on the job for Shaka Smart. For one thing, finishing in "last" with five new starters in what statistically was the nation's strongest conference might not be quite as bad as it sounds."
Does any one agree that Smart has had a solid 17 months on the job? I don't an I believe it has been a big backwards step for the program and I am sure most Texas fans agree with me.
I am so glad my dad does not live in Sarasota anymore. We do have lots of friends in that area though and praying for all the people in that area that will be affected.
"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated" - Alex Smith
Great game for the Chiefs that hopefully sets the tone for the season.
A couple of interesting observations...Looked like Brady had so much time to throw; he would stand by himself for what it seemed a long time and could pick where to throw, Smith appeared to be under constant pressure and still managed to find receivers.
Penalties: Chiefs - 15-139, Patriots - 6-55. Seems pretty lopsided to me; are the Patriots the Duke of the NFL?
The coach- student athlete comparison is a red herring that has no bearing on the subject. The coach is a professional employee with a contract with the university to do a job and if he leaves early there are usually financial penalties.
A university is and still should be the place where an individual goes to get a degree and not a stooping place with no intention of getting a degree....call me old fashioned.
Any one that has attended college knows that most schools if not all schools require that you complete at least half of your credit at the institution the will grant you the degree. If students start transferring yearly, there is very little chance that will earn enough credits at any one school to graduate and thus making a mockery of the "student" part. The rule is an attempt to pretend that college is about getting an education and by extension a degree first and not just a convenient paid pit stop on the way to pro sports. Any student is free to transfer as he or she sees fit and many do, but if you choose to sign a LOI and receive a scholarship, then you better be ready to follow the rules.
I think it is safe to say that every team in the SEC is better than Missouri State, right? If Missouri State can score43 points against MU, how many points do yo think SEC teams will score on MU?
That was my only point and I was not comparing conferences or stating how strong every team in the SEC is, only how bad MU defense appears to be,
At the time, the airplane ticket to Askew was all that we knew and if that that was all, KU would have gotten a slap in the wrist and nothing more. It did violate NCAA rules but I would give him a pass on that.
The other things that went on that we did not know, at least I did not, until recently were considerably more serious and apparently KU almost got the death penalty. I would have not agreed with it or given him a pass on that then or now. For a long time I thought that the NCAA shafted KU but now it is clear KU got lucky.
Based on what he did at UCLA and SMU, who both got much greater sanctions than KU, we can safely infer that Larry Brown, as good a coach as he is, he is not a manager that plays by the rules and breaks them freely and let's someone else pick up the pieces.
As I mentioned before, he is still a great coach but his off the field shenanigans greatly diminish his overall status.
How about Missouri? They scored 72 but gave up 43 to Missouri State, an FCS team; talk about a crappy defense. SEC teams are going to light up MU like a pinball machine.
KU takes the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0. Great game for the Lady Jayhawks.
KU takes the second set 25-20. Women's volleyball is so much fun.
I have the entire sports tier from my cable provider but the Time Warner/Spectrum sports channel that carries KU programming is not even an option. I contacted them and indicated that Time Warner made it prohibitively costly (probably as part of the deal with KU) and neither Consolidated nor AT&T or Google, the other providers in the Metro are carry it, only Time Warner and Comcast.
KU takes first set 25-23...Yes...
Comcast is by far the worst when it comes to costumer service/support. They will be a good match to Time Warner.
My local provider, Consolidated Communications is not nearly as bad but not as good as SureWest, the company they took over was, or Everest the company SureWest bought out. No question that Everest, the original company the started the fiber optic service in the KC area, has the best support and customer service but it has gotten worse every time it was absorbed by a bigger firm.
My cable provide does have access to ESPN 3 but not for blacked out programs like this game. It does not have access to the Time Warner Metro Sports channel which only Comcast does (Time Warner and Comcast were merging). AT&T and Google, the other cable providers in KC do not have access to Metro Sports either. I know most KU fans in the KC Metro are are blacked out which is utterly stupid since it is has the highest concentration of KU fans in the country...and it is not just the Kansas side, the entire metro area including Missouri is blacked out.
To watch the game I have to connect a laptop to my cell phone hot spot and connect the laptop to the big screen tv...a royal PIA. I still hate $%^#$ Zenger
9 KU plays #13 UK in women’s volleyball at 1:00 PM today. The game will be on ESPN3, but since it is in Lawrence it will be likely be blacked out in Kansas thanks to Zenger’s stupid deal…I will have to stream it using my cell phone hot spot that bypasses the local address.
On a related note, #9 KU plays #13 UK in women's volleyball at 1:00 PM today. The game will be on ESPN3, but since it is in Lawrence it will be likely be blacked out in Kansas thanks to Zenger's stupid deal...
When you look at the entire body of work while at KU, I would have to give Simien the edge. He was unstoppable inside and when fouled he was gold at the FT line and he did not have Jeff Whitey protecting the rim behind him. Both great KU players with amazing personal stories.
The reality is that Larry Brown got teams to be good the wrong way and Bill Self does it the right way. Every college programs Larry Brown has coached has been put on probation because the things he did. Yes, he is a great coach, perhaps one of the better coaches of all time, but he also has a penchant for cutting corners which diminished his stature greatly.
Like most KU fans, until recently I was under the impression that the probation after the '88 championship season was due to the Askew situation, but recently we have learned that the violations were considerably more serious and KU came within a whisker of getting the death penalty; as usual, Brown left KU one step ahead of the law.
Simien was also a very good FT shooter and you did not have to worry having him in the game at the end of close games; he shot 0.816 in his senior year and his career average at KU was 0.784. I don't believe has had a big shoot that well from the FT since he left.
Oh...how the mighty have fallen...
The passing game was pretty good but KU better get some sort of running game; 73 yards in 25 attempts will not cut it. Also, 3 turnovers against a below average SEMO team is not good and needs to be addressed immediately or else it will cost winnable games down the road. It was not a bad outing but it was not a good one either; I will give it a solid C.
Don't forget that the 2015 championship team was led by several top referee recruits that were instrumental in their run particularly the three in the championship game.
I will guess 6'-7" - 6'-8" and KU will list him at 6'-9".
It was all over the news in KC. First, it was not in front of a estaurant that sell alcohol, it was at the drive-tru at Burger King at 135th and Metcalf in Overland Park. Second, they interviewed the two girls that called the Police and they both indicated that he did not appear to be drunk and there was no alcohol odor whatsoever; he seemed to just have fainted. A lot of questions why the police gave him a DUI. This is all we know so far.
Let's wait until we have all the facts before passing judgment.
4 .Stopping the run. Kansas has one of if not the best defensive lines in the conference
I am curious, where you get this ranking? I have looked at several publications that rank the various units of the conference teams and I don't see any of the KU units even in the top 5. Here is one... ↗
Is that an unusually high number of season ending injuries before the first game is played?
One family crime wave?
