Stumpy finally has a guard.
@kjayhawks language....
@kjayhawks KU 89 IU 81.
@jaybate-1.0 PHOF!!!!! That is a great read to start the morning...TY...
@BeddieKU23 Marcus has some physical advantages over Devonte. That doesn't mean he's a better player by any means, but Devonte's flat best he's got is located down in his heart- he wills himself to be amazing in the biggest games. Garrett's HUGE advantage is he is a physical mismatch - a freak of nature with a crossover dribble. My theory about KU freshmen guards are they evolve much faster than our bigs, partly because their bodies don't have to change in order to be effective on the court. I think Garrett starts from day 1. I think he will be a prolific point guard- one to remember, for sure.
@jaybate-1.0 I'm not a conspiracy theorist - I am a conspiracy realist.
I'm hooting for Wooten!!!
@jaybate-1.0 I don't think it shows up the next two games. Both teams play a 3 at the PF, so I don't think we're going to be exposed right away, thus allowing our guys to come around. Bragg will take some additional time, but at some point, I think he'll get it, and be a force. Just might take 15+ games for him.
Hosers picked to win the B10:
Scouting reports
(Teams listed in consensus predicted order of finish)
1. Indiana Hoosiers
Strength: Pure, beautiful shooting offense
The Hoosiers were a 56.1-percent team from 2-point range last season and a 41.6-percent team from 3-ball range. Tom Crean's going to get James Blackmon Jr. back, which will amplify IU's efficiency and smooth offense. This can be the best team with the ball in the Big Ten.
Weakness: Too many turnovers
The inconvenient fact about Indiana's offense: it turned the ball over almost 20 percent of the time last season. That's got to be curbed. Yet, Yogi Ferrell is gone. Will we see IU get pressed a lot? I doubt it, but I'd love to see some teams try to push this team and disrupt its halfcourt offense. If the Hoosiers can't keep the turnovers down, they'll have a hard time winning the conference.
X-factor: An unbeatable environment in a renovated, classic arena
The new Assembly Hall looks terrific. When you're re-opening a building, it can bring a sense of renewed life, too. IU as a program does not need it, but I bet the fan base is a little louder and more confident this season. Knocking off a talented, offensively savvy Hoosiers club on its home floor is going to be a big ask for any opponent this season. Indiana did right by not knocking down Assembly Hall and building something new. This seems like the better option. Basketball-loving fanatics in that community agree.
When you play the Hosers, you're always struck by their lack of intensity on defense. Roy Williams 2 will try to run, run, run, and give up a slew of easy buckets. They also have an aversion to being ground down in the halfcourt, although Bryant helps mitigate that somewhat. To me, IU style of play is UNC Jr., and we all know what happens when Coach Self plays Roy and company.
@JayHawkFanToo He's not ahead of Bragg.
@JayHawkFanToo I think CB will be just fine... eventually. I don't think he is ready yet to dominate, and will grow nicely into a solid contributor by year's end I am of the opinion this team doesn't need CB to be a star to be a complete badass team, final four/national championship team. You have future NBA pros sitting on the bench, itching to get into the mix. Don't think for a second Coach won't slap Doke into the lineup at the same time as LL - we can go as big as anybody in the country if need be. The other path opens the door to vets Svi and Vick, and now we're potentially one of the fastest teams in America. We can literally field an entire starting 5 of 3 point shooters- or we can throw a big kid in LL, and a bigger kid in Doke at you the same time if we want to push you around. Our guards are going to be trapping, and stealing the ball all over the court ....the passing will be tremendous. Wait until they get 10 to 15 games in- the ball is simply going to zip. The depth on this team allows Coach to play a variety of ways, with a variety of lineups, including your guy, Lightfoot. That kid is a natural born brawler- when he hits you, he flattens you out. We haven't had muscle like that in so long...put him in w/ Doke, and we've got a mack truck frontline. Next year, they'll have to issue shoulder pads for other Big 12 frontlines.
@approxinfinity My prediction all along has been CB will need to conquer college bb before he goes pro. I think he'll need another year here. 5 TOs/ 5 fouls = hot mess. He has enormous talent, but has to solve the mental aspect first, imo.
@stoptheflop No problems with Devonte. Zip, zero, nada, imo. He'll score when it counts.
I have a very good Emporia State story from about 37 years ago that I'm unable to share with a mixed audience. Suffice to say, I have fond memories of my one visit in life to Emporia State University.
@HawkChamp Make Bilas our authorized announcer for our games. If not him, then I could listen to Bobby Knight.
@jaybate-1.0 I read somewhere a few years back that UCLA didn't like the Howland grind it out offense, and preferred Alford's uptempo game because it resembled Wooden's offenses. I wonder if that factored in as well as the cultural differences you adeptly pointed out.
@jaybate-1.0 Will do.
I fell asleep, and missed the end of the game. Very pleased with the Cubbies. Somewhere out there, Harry Carey is having a cold one, singing, "Take me out to the ballgame".
omg....reminded me of mario's shot in 2008...
go cubbies!!!!!
My honest opinion - we looked terrible. DG was going through the motions, LL did nothing on the boards, Frank looked good after he lollygagged through the first half, CB looked like he has half there, JJ stressed himself out, and was dealing with confidence issues the first half, Vick looked good, although he let his man blow by him on defense numerous times, Kudunka looked promising for the few minutes he wasn't fouling, Svi's jumper was nice, although I think him and JJ were having a contest who could have the most turnovers. Other than that, we looked GREAT! LOL. My opinion? Throw it out, and hopefully look better on Sunday.
@mayjay I live near Tampa, and it has been horrid for years. My internet speed is ridiculously high, yet ESPN 3 looks like a Keystone Cops film ...
@wrwlumpy Silver lining is if he struggles, he sticks around another year, and gets real good. He has the talent to be a great player, imo. Got to get that head on straight, though.
BTW, my pirate link to the game was 100 times better than ESPN3's stream.
We sucked.
When's the next game?
@approxinfinity Would play LaGerald at the 3 before Svi if weβre already replacing Josh in the starting 5.
I predicted weeks ago that folks would be calling for Vick to start instead of JJ. I still think JJ needs to start. We need him to get experience now, so he can be one of our leaders in March. Vick and Svi will still get their 20+ minutes every game.
self is reaming them- guarantee a better 2nd half....
hey..vick looks great...svi looks pretty good as well...
i think the vets are cakewalking, and the freshmen are trying too hard= we look awful...lol.
@DoubleDD goatdee.net .......eric's gift to jethro....
we look terrible....and we lead by 16 ...lol.
@BShark lots of mop up minutes this year, imo.
At some point this year, Lightfoot will come into a game, and play so well, we will feel much better about 2017, imo.
@wrwlumpy Lighfoot has a very distinct baby face.
Vick nets 24 points, leading the way. All 5 starters hit double digits.
Let's do "most enthusiastic fan"....which would be ME.......
I'm going out on a limb here, and predicting a win for KU tonight.
@brooksmd Great find. If we get 10 to 15 minutes a game with 4 guards, that would add a tremendous weight on teams trying to prepare for us. From hi-lo to spreading the floor...hubba, hubba. Whether you liked Hoiberg or not, give the devil his due- his spread offense was always a pain to defend. The funny part is our 4 guard lineup will be as tall as our regular lineup was last year.
He's a young TROB, with some LL characteristics.
@kjayhawks Roku is the future. For as little as 30 bucks, you have a device that streams tv onto your tv through the internet. There are gazillions of channels, some cost, some are free, but you have tons and tons of choices to watch.
@HawkChamp Enjoyed that immensely. Hope to see a bunch of that Tuesday.
Let's get the national championship. Then let's win the conference, and the national championship next year.
Guard - Garrett
Guard - Newman
SF- Vick
PF - Svi....Lightfoot?
C- Kudunka.
That's a pretty good start. Geez Louise, that team is full of shooters, with an experienced, dynamic footer itching to dunk everything in sight. That is a team that will win the Big 12 and more.
4 DAYS UNTIL TIPOFF. I LOVE the smell of a national championship in the morning...
5 more days until we play.
@jaybate-1.0 You're still going to get your grind it out, hi-lo bad ball w Bragg and LL every game , and if the big man on the bench can learn not to foul, we'll probably see him breaking bodies in the paint every game. Then we'll play 4 guards, and completely blow their mind. We're going to flat overwhelm teams at times with this group- this is Self's dream team.
@jayballer54 Your distress is created by your outlook, not by my expectations. I fully expect us to win the national championship this year. If I am wrong, then I could be rightly accused of being a pollyanna content with conference championships. Until then, we're on a mission from God..bigger than Elvis..bigger than the Beatles...we ARE the KU JAYHAWKS, and we will win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, BABY!
@jaybate-1.0 Might be your best one yet. PHOF!!!!
