What About Mitchell? • Aug 16, 2017 01:39 AM

Been doing a lot of reading on Robinson. I have a feeling that the NCAA is being felt out on the chances of an exception/diversion/parole :) or whatever they call what it will take to get him on the court this year. Probably by KU but likely also by Robinson himself. After gathering a little information on if there is a chance or not then an informed decision could be made by both parties. Personally I don't think he will go to college if it is determined he is a practice squad only guy although KU could be looking to take him as that just to help the other bigs improve as the cupboard is pretty bare in recruitment land.

San Antonio • Jul 29, 2017 02:45 AM

The part were Tyler says that this opportunity gives him a chance to do something out from under his dads shadow makes me think dad isn't planning on going there, at least anytime soon. Going to a college team would have ended up with constant comparisons between the two, smart move on Tyler's part to go to the pros for that if nothing else.

What I see happening to football over time is parents keeping the kids out of it starting at young ages and then gradually that age will climb. Then a few high schools will get sued over brain injuries to students and schools will start dropping football. The combination will reduce the number of experienced players colleges can choose from. Kind of a domino effect basically from there until the pros are half guys that have played a couple years of football and who is going to pay big bucks to watch crappy games?

Lucas headed to Japan • Jul 25, 2017 02:05 PM

That should be a good fit for him speaking the language and all. I hope he thrives there!

Bagley for Whitman • Jul 25, 2017 12:24 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Sorry I was not clear, I know it's a weight issue with Lightfoot, I just wanted to point out that Preston isn't built either. He looked like what we used to call a beanpole back in the day. Now that's not saying he isn't strong, just that it doesn't show.

Bagley for Whitman • Jul 24, 2017 06:31 PM

Some of you are talking about Lightfoot not being big enough for the post. I helped at a camp recently and saw Billy and he's not all that big himself. Tall, but not muscled up all that much as of yet. Mitch was not at the camp so I don't have a comparison but from what I've seen elsewhere he has the superior 'motor'.

Doke on the other hand has lost weight, Devonte said about 30lbs, and I'm guessing from the look of him he would have lost more except for he has been building muscle. I said last year that for as big as he was he was light on his feet and moved well. This year he looked even better in that regard and he has good hands. There was not a full up scrimmage so hard to say what his stamina is going to be however it is quite apparent that he has spent some time with Hudy while he was recovering. I worry about his ability to stay on the floor like many of the rest of you but I think Lightfoot is going to be the best option after Doke and not Billy this season. Mainly because I think Mitch wants it more and is going to put out more of an effort. I will say that I hope I am proved wrong!

Josh to Celtics #1? • Jun 17, 2017 02:15 PM

It would not surprise me if Ball drops out of the top 5, he's good but not as good as the press he's gotten, the NBA draft is a crap shoot tho so who knows.
I kinda hope the Celtics do not take Josh as I think he would have less opportunity to grow there. I think the Lakers would be a better fit for Josh, and that Josh would be a better fit for the Lakers than Ball. Philly would also be interesting if they could slide Simmons to point and let Josh have the SG position. I seldom watch the NBA but if Jackson joined Embiid with the 76'ers I'd find a way to watch every game!

Mitch Article • May 31, 2017 06:32 PM

@HighEliteMajor Exactly, a development guy. Someone that hopefully can sub in 5 or so minutes per half to begin this coming year increasing that over time unless as you say he plateaus out and/or wanders off. I agree he is not the most athletic guy on the floor but i am not sold on him being that unskilled. He was just so light and comparatively weak that he was not able to show much. Do you remember Withey's first year at KU? He had similar problems but I think he turned out ok ;)

Guess all I am saying is I saw some things I liked in Mitch. He has some fire and desire and he appeared quick enough for his size and his hands were decent. Now if Hudy can add some power to his frame, and we know she can, we will see what he can learn to do with it. From what he said in this story Self is tailoring him to spend some time at the 4. I can't say I would mind watching him in the circle feeding the Big Az in the post.

Mitch Article • May 30, 2017 09:02 PM

I read that, and a few of the "expert opinions" posted in comments. They don't give Mitch much hope so I'm hoping he reads those comments and uses them as inspiration to kick ass.

As far as I can tell all he needs is exactly what he's getting, Hudized into a chunk of muscle. His instincts were pretty good overall even if he was lost on occasion and he appeared in the limited time we saw him to have a nose for rebounds. For the first big off the bench IMO I'm okay with a rebound orientated guy that will probably block a few shots and get better on defense as he gets more playing time.

Thanks for the link HEM I got a kick out reading all those comments. I would like to say that my comment on that thread, although sarcastic in intent, mentioned noticing his rebound positioning and ability on youtube. LOL probably only time I was right that year!!

In reading all the comments tho it makes me realize that perhaps we should avoid being to negative on recruits. If nothing else less shame when they prove us wrong the way Frank has!

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 03, 2017 11:25 PM

@REHawk If I remember right the team was in KC having played at the Sprint center during the time that incident took place. That doesn't mean they don't have knowledge of what went on or even could have in some way shape or form contributed to it in some way. I am sure it has had a negative effect with the team in general probably more off the floor then on.

I met and interacted with Carlton a little over the summer at a kids camp. He was a happy go lucky, very bouncy and friendly person. During the course of the year his body language did not reflect that same demeanor all that often. Something is going on in his head and it is not possible to tell the cause. Possibilities that spring to mind definitaly include the off floor activities however lack of playing time for various reasons looms large to me. He grew a noticeably in both height and weight which from my own experience in another sport can screw with you. Also the entire system he learned to play his freshman year, and perhaps most his life, was thrown out with the shift to 1 in 4 out. No idea what he will end up doing I hope he sticks it out and finds his niche with the Hawks. He has showed glimpses of being a valuable part of next year.

My biggest fear since the Oregon game is something happened on that trip which we have yet to learn (as if we ever do) that has Self annoyed with him. If that is the case I can see that being the third strike that moves him down the road.

Not been posting much seldom around the computer and I am too old to make the damn phone work 100% with this site. I read everything here tho!

Why ESPN sucks • Feb 10, 2017 01:08 AM

I turn on ESPN to watch a specific game, then turn elsewhere. No longer watch any other programing there for most of the reasons you have all mentioned but mainly because the people they have are basically annoying. When I watch a game on ESPN i often have a radio station on to hear play by play even if they are out of sync as the espn announcers are so bad. I would like to think they can get their ducks in a row but at this point I find it unlikely.

In watching him shoot free throws I have noticed the same thing about him taking his time on some freebies and not others. He makes a higher percentage when he takes his time I believe although I have not went back and totaled them up. His form also changes at times he does get the ball up higher, not often, and his release looks pretty nice when he does. Not seen that enough to have a feeling on percentage.

I believe a lot of this is concentration and confidence, there have been times in late game situations he's made several in a row in a tight situation. Probably his drive to win comes out then and he's so focused on winning it overcomes his "nerves" or whatever you want to call it.

You are right, if he can't get a handle on this it's going to hurt him down the road.

Bragg Suspended Again • Jan 27, 2017 07:03 PM

@Blown When are grades reported? It's been 40 years for me but i seem to remember first week or two of second semester but I assume technology has improved that.

My speculation is that I don't have enough information to speculate about Bragg. From comments Self has made I think he does not have all the information he needs about the investigation himself. That would leave me in his place distraught and concerned, also ready to smack down anyone that steps out of line in any way.

As far as the investigation goes I believe if a player was directly involved the name would have been released by now. That is what happened with Bragg in the last incident. Public figures tend to be named early on while others are often not until charged. I hope this is sorted out quickly and accurately for all concerned.

I think Jaybate has a point with "Not to worry about Bragg. He was destined to suck for half a season, while he figures out the new body he is inhabiting."

Bragg has grown in both height and muscle, I went through that as a runner and I promise you it will totally throw you out of rhythm. Add to that the hype and pressure to compete for a starting spot it is easy to believe he is sped up. Self comment that he is in a funk but is a good player adds to that theory. Of course the toughening box is there to get his mind and body back on the same page. Just have to wonder how long it will take.

My breakout player is Vick. Svi will be great don't get me wrong but after I spent a weekend at a camp with some of the guys I have felt Vick has improved the most.

Time For Self To Kill C5 • Jan 11, 2016 10:49 PM

I think the whole Mickelson issue is he does not appear "tough". That is one thing Self preach's on, being tough on the court. I think Self is aware of this tendency of his hence Hunter starts as he is the best overall player currently. But then gut instinct kicks in during the game and he puts a "tough guy" on the floor. I am not saying Hunter is not tough, just that he has that reputation/appearance.

I am with HEM on this one, you have to know what every player on the floor with you is likely to do in the varying circumstances, what they are thinking, how high they can jump, and how fast they can turn and burn. I'd like to see Perry and Hunter start (currently) with Bragg and Diallo subbing for them. Give Lucas and Traylor a few minutes here and there when a little extra muscle is called for or fouls become a problem. I would be tickled if Bragg or Diallo either one can take the starting spot from Hunter because the upside there is tremendous. However if they are not in the game more than they are now this is not going to happen this year.

Nothing against Traylor and Lucas they both have made substantial contributions to the team. However there are a couple of 'vettes' sitting in the garage and it is shame they are not getting some miles put on them!

Mason/Graham? Thanks To Nic Moore • Jan 03, 2016 02:41 AM

For some unknown reason the TV gods smiled on me and my local CBS station changed feeds so I caught the start of the game. To sum it up. - Mick won the jump and I stared in stunned joy as Self removed the leash and let the Jayhawks run and gun. The ball movement was perfection, and it looked like Baylor was in slow motion as they tried to keep up. The only negative was Mick getting 2 fouls in a hurry trying to control Gathers. At the under 16 time out it was 13-3 and I told my father-in-law I would not accept anything less than 26-6 at the 12 minute mark. Sadly I was off by 1!

Ok, so I'm not a good play by play guy. TBH I was so into the over all action I wish I could have recorded it to watch again and grasp the details.

CBS Sports Network? • Dec 21, 2015 03:16 PM

@DoubleDD I agree it has got annoying. Last year I upped my cable package to get as many games as I could. This year I once more was unable to watch as my only option was espn3, which of course is blacked out in most of Kansas. I have cable one as my only provider, unless I want to cut down some trees so I can have dish/direct. Soooo, I dumped all but economy cable recently, got some online packages for random stuff and basically have decided not to stress. I am also not buying anymore tickets and going up to the field house . If they don't want want me to watch I guess I can oblige them.!

Sling TV does let me get some games, and as soon as I get an antenna installed I'm cutting the cord completely.

@REHawk For radio I've been using Tunein Radio App on my iPhone. It has been fairly reliable. Just search for 610 sports radio, couple times I've got the wrong feed and had to switch channels but that's probably user error.

It Appears We Have A Tentative Deal • Dec 15, 2015 04:07 PM

@REHawk Late to the party on this but I wanted to try it a bit before posting. I signed up for SlingTV last week as I have been unable to watch any KU games up to now. It allows you to watch ESPN ESPN2 and ESPN3 on the watchespn app with the basic package. You add the sports package and I believe you get all the ESPN channels. It is working great so far and I am thinking it will allow me to watch games as I travel for work.

Mitch Lightfoot is officially a Jayhawk • Oct 25, 2015 09:40 PM

I read that other KU site this morning, even the comments which I do at time for the comic content. This signing has created the typical level of hate and discontent that drove me away from there in the first place. What I see here is a kid with a reputation of being hard working, has decent footwork, some skill, and a lot of hustle. The type of player that can be used to push that one and done to practice and play with effort. Sometimes it is the type of player that as his body matures turns into a valuable rotation player. The kind of player that Self has turned into serious players in the past.

As far as his current ranking I've noticed that kids that commit early in HS are sometimes ignored a bit by the ranking services. I am curious to see what will happen now that he has been brought back into notice. I would not be surprised to see him bounce up into the mid 70's, which for what I see as a redshirt four year player would be about right. I believe KU needs a couple of 3-4 year players. It brings some year to year continuity and leadership potential down the road.

Basically Self see's a lot of holes opening up for big guys and he just filled his "four year guy" spot.

HM was very effective, at least one of those foul calls was totally bogus. He looks so awkward at times I think the ref just could not believe he was able to reach around and swat the ball without fouling.

KU Wins and Loses an 11th Title? • Mar 02, 2015 01:29 AM

In reading what stories are out there and his family attorneys comments I get the feeling, call it a wild-assed-guess, that someone in Cliffs family has had improper contact with an agent/advisor/shoeco rep. The key word that I keep seeing is 'famiy's attorney". Nothing about KU getting legal help, nothing about Cliff, it's all on the family. I do not know the rules but I do seem to remember that if anyone in the family gets bennies from certain people it comes back to whack the player. I'm sure if I'm wrong I will be corrected! ;)

TO REPEAT THIS IS A WAG!!
