ROCK CHALK!! 13 STRAIGHT!
@mayjay Serena vs Nadal!? I like that match up. She'd kick his ass. Seriously. Serena is a beast!! I love her and her game.
I do see your point though. And I agree with it.
@jaybate-1.0 Josh is playing out of his mind and out of position at KU. In the Pros he is a guard, not a 4 man. He didn't have a 20/10 game today. But that kid is a stud.
@ralster Yep.
@BShark HA!!
@jaybate-1.0 I was lucky enough to see the last 12 minutes of regulation. I also ran into CBS problems. GRR.
SO from what I could see, NO KU zone, just tough, sticky man to man. Made stops when it counted the most, knocked down shots and free throws when it counted the most. Game Over!
@jayballer54 I totally understand your line of reasoning here. I agree with it. The UConn team has similar talent stacking to Kentucky, Duke mens teams. I think @jaybate-1.0 has the most solid reasoning on why talent stacking is going on and it appears its a thing in womens ball too. It is what it is. Definitely not the players faults.
What I am saying is that the UConn womens team could not win against better competition. Specifically they could not win that many games against any high elite major team in any power conference. Well, ok maybe the lower tier teams like Texas now and OU now. But still no way they win 20 games in a row in any Mens Div 1 conference. For UConn to strengthen their legitimacy amongst the best teams ever to play the college game, they need to do it against the best competition.
@Texas-Hawk-10 just made a solid point. UConn now is kind of like UCLA 50 years ago when they were the only dominant team. Things have progressed in the mens game. No single mens team will ever be that dominant. Yes I am including Duke and Kentucky and Kansas in that statement. I am not diminishing KU's streak of 12 straight conference champs. No way any other team matches that streak any time soon in todays game.
I would personally love to see UConn womens team play summer games against any high elite major program in Mens Div 1. They want to be considered amongst the best teams, they gotta prove it against the best talent.
I'm gonna lay down one more thing on this thread. Its probly gonna rub some people the wrong way but this is my truth.
There is zero chance that Auriemma and UConn could do this in the mens Div 1 league. Zero.
100 wins in a row is very impressive and all but its against far inferior competition. So its kind of invalidated.
100 wins is 100 wins but it means less if youre not doing it against the best competition.
Put the UConn womens team in the Mens ACC or Big 12 or Big 10. Would they go undefeated in 20 games?
Hell no.
SO, big deal, they won 100 games against other womens teams and rolled over all of them. Their margin of victory in the vast majority of those games wasn't even close! Not close at all.
That's not competition. Come on. That's lame.
@jaybate-1.0 hehe. yah, what I really mean to say is of course pure speculation about if both teams could meet and play in an alternate space time where both teams are the same in age. The '12 team would probly win. But Frank and DG and Josh would not go quietly into that alternate universe night.
@jaybate-1.0 I was wondering about the talent stacking at UCONN the other day myself. I don't follow womens ball at all. But it seems that if some team/coach wins that many games in a row, that there is, at very least, a huge gap in coaching abilities between Coach A and all the other coaches in Div 1 womens ball. Also, a mega stacked team, like UCONN appears to be to me would also have a much greater advantage over all the other teams, wouldn't they have?
I mean, its like Duke and Kentucky mens teams getting stacks of 10 McD's players at a time.
I don't know if womens ball has a Mickey D's game or its equivalent. But it sure seems like there is a distinct advantage over there at UConn.
Solid conversation you guys. I love it.
For this sake, how about a game in the KU gym, Coach Self calling the fouls. No refs. Just ball. 5 on 5.
I think the '12 team wins, but it would be a heck of a game to watch
@jaybate-1.0 Do you get to see these games up close, from the sidelines? How much can you hear them say? I saw Landen jaw at someone, saw Frank and Josh do it too. Cant read lips very well.
I agree about the '12 team and the refs. TRob and Withey would have their way with this KU team and be brutal about it. Releford and Young too.
I believe that in a two on two match up, that Frank and DG could easily beat Tyshawn and Elijah. They'd make them look silly and slow, turn them over endless times and drill treys right in their grills.
But, it would take all 5 of our guys now, at once, to stop Trob and Withey. That match up is like so one sided. Its not even fair.
@drgnslayr One of the docs I work with up here in VT is from Baylor and Id love to be able to give him some ribbing about a win there at their place, basically sealing #13. I don't expect that will happen. Although after the WVU game, I shouldn't be surprise if we do win.
We may not put teams away early, but down the stretch our boys are tough as nails.
I'll say this. If our guards, all five of them, have good games, Landen stays out of foul trouble and we get some good minutes from the bench bigs, I would say KU should win that game.
@Crimsonorblue22 I actually appreciated that guy saying that.
@jaybate-1.0 I haven't read all the posts on this topic between you and @wissox . So, I'm not taking sides here at all. I just want to say that I'm not sure you can diminish any win this season against Kentucky or Duke. Were they a little short handed against us? yeah sure maybe they were but hey, KU, us, we have been short handed nearly all season and we keep winning games that we shouldn't have a prayer in. Last nights WVU game is a prime example.
You know, earlier in the season I questioned this teams toughness. I said that they were soft and that the 2012 team of 6 guys would kick their asses back to the school yard court. Right now, I think I have to retract that statement at least 3/4ths of the way. Last night our boys proved they are TOUGH. Tough as nails. All 7.5 of our guys are tough as nails. Bragg has some work to do but he had a couple of big boy plays that impressed me last night. I personally think we would give the 2012 team a run for their money. I really do. TRob would be all over Landen, no contest there. But what would TRob do when he had to switch onto Josh or Svi on the perimeter? Both those guys at 6'8" just as tall and could drain threes or drive around the slower but way stronger TRob. That's just one match up problem I see.
I do think the 2012 team would win in a head to head match up but it would be a very very close game. Our guards this year are way way better than the 2012 team. So, both teams have match up advantages and disadvantages. I like our guys now. They are learning to fight all the way til the final whistle. Never say die. That gives me good feelings about March. I believe they can win with an asymmetrical whistle and a poor trey shooting night. That makes them very tough to beat next month
@approxinfinity Coach Self has thrown so many wrinkles into his game plan for opposing coaches to sort through that its damned near impossible for them to game plan against. What have we seen so far? Just off the top of my head; 4 out 1 in, back to basics with his 3 out 2 in, even playing 5 guards for a few possessions, all of which can shoot from outside. On the other end, weve seen man to man, we've seen two or three different zone defenses, we've seen the press now too.
I'm thinking Coach Self has the biggest freeking magic hat in the business right now!
@KUSTEVE Youre a freeking prophet
@Fightsongwriter Its not the best. It is right up there with the best though!! That was a killer win by our guys. Killer!
I'm super psyched to see those guys grit out such a tough win like that. I mean, that toughness they showed last night!? That was right up there with the MU game come back and the 08 NC come back. Our boys showed they are tougher than anyone, as tough as anyone. They can win a game when their trey ball isn't falling. They can win a game when their backs are against the ropes and getting pounded with foul trouble.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
@stoptheflop I don't really have a bad feeling about this game. I feel good about it. I think Frank will be fine. The medical staff will have been treating him and watching him all the way until game time. Our boys will come out ready to play and protect our home court.
Rock Chalk!!
@stoptheflop Huggy bear just gave KU some pretty good compliments in the article over on KU sports.
Thanks Huggy bear!
Compliments aside, he remains one of my favorite Big 12 coaches. Him and former coach Martin of K State.
Havent had someone put up 30 and 10 in a game since some guy named Thomas Robinson did it back in '11
@wrwlumpy Yeah, , killer screen, reminiscent of the Kevin Young screen on F. Smart. Lando's screen was solid. He was set for days! Days.
Speaking of flopping. Did everybody catch that flop against Frank? Frank has his hand in the guys face for a three point attempt, does not even come close to touching him and the idiot falls right over, misses the shot, the refs give him three tries at the line. I thought it was complete BS.
@wrwlumpy That play was SICK!! (means really good)
@HighEliteMajor Totally agree! Our ball movement is absolutely stellar!! Having 4 very good ball handlers out there helps immensely in that regard. But, as for my concern above...Will said ball movement offset any defensive problems on the other end come march? I freekin hope so. There are no clear cut favorites to make the final four this year. I have to put KU on that list. These guys are so good! We won that game without Frank making a solid contribution. Let that sink in for a moment.
@chriz HAHA!
@REHawk He ended up making 5 of 8 freethrows for the game? I think?
better than his average.
His trey shooting is hot right now too
I didn't know Frank was sick!
Youre right though, way too many phantom fouls. Refs almost gave that game to Tech after 30 minutes.
I am concerned with our defense though. I mean, in late game crunch time its pretty rock solid. But when you look at the numbers per Kenpom, KU is ranked the lowest a Bill Self team has ever been ranked.
JOSH JACKSON IS A BEAST THO!!
my icons disappeared for some strange reason, hit flag by mistake
shit I didn't mean to flag this post
JOSH JACKSON IS THE EFFING MAN!!!
ACTION FREEKING JACKSON!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 I saw that stat line!! Killer. He needs to be averaging those types of numbers!!
Just watching the UNC vs Duke game.
J Bilas just said "Frank Mason III of Kansas has been the best guard in the country."
@jayballer54 Yeah, I read that Dad already said his three kids were gonna be better than Jordan. WTF!?
No, That's not gonna happen.
@drgnslayr You know what. I totally do not hold that against him. Like, at all.
Although, Kentucky is absolutely not above passing a law just like this.
Personally speaking, I have friends and family that are affected by this horrendously unconstitutional law in Kansas.
It makes me sick.
That being said, I loved playing Kentucky the last 2 years. I think Calipari has grown on me a little bit.
@ralster Ive heard nothing since the time of injury. I believe Coach Self said something about returning to full speed some time this summer.
He didn't just break a bone, I think he tore something. That takes longer to rehab than a break.
@justanotherfan That would be very cool. Its pretty likely to happen too. I imagine Minnesota will get a pretty high draft pick this season.
@Blown hilarious meme!!
@HighEliteMajor Devonte' hasnt declared yet. I still assume he will be a Senior. Svi as well
Well, lets be honest guys. KU did not come to play ball against ISU. I mean ISU makes all those threes which is unprecedented in AFH but we still gave them that win.
@Kcmatt7 Kevin Young?
Im kidding
@jaybate-1.0 Solid
@nuleafjhawk HA!
@KirkIsMyHinrich Nice post!! I cant agree more.
Wiggins went #1 in the '14 draft because Joel was hurt.
Josh should Absolutely be a top 3 pick in this years draft!!! not even a question. it should happen
@kjayhawks KU better effing win this game. Thats my take.
@Fightsongwriter Good luck!!
KU better win.
@Hawk8086 And our margin for error just got thinner. Im back to thinking we arent better than sweet 16 again.
What the hell KU? Loss at home!?
I guess we are spoiled as KU fans. We havent had a home loss since '14.
But still. Those guys didnt come out to play the second half...cept Frank and he turned it over too much, as did the rest of them.
Embarrassing! Losing at home! I cant fraking believe it. What the actual frak!?
@StLJhawk Dude, Isaiah Thomas. 5'9" plays for the Celtics. He is one of the best right now
@CRH107 Yeah, So excited for Frank! He is a STUD!
On the other hand, Josh is a top 3 pick. Period.
@elpoyo I just looked at Kenpom, looked at the stats for Wiggs and for Josh.
Josh is out performing Wiggins in nearly all categories except free throw %
JJ is a STUD!
I cant remember exactly how many ppg Wiggs had. I think it was around 17.5.
Josh's ppg is right at 16 now. All he has to do is work on his FT shooting. Dude has better handles, he can play and guard 1-4, something Wiggins didnt do at KU.
Regarding alleged incidents: Lets ALL try to treat them as alleged at this point. Untrue even! NONE of us know what the hell happened. We cant judge anything at all.
Personally, I think I smell a rat. Something doesnt add up to me and Im personally avoiding any such judgement of Vick or JJ until ALL of the facts get told. ALL of them. To me, this is a non issue until proven other wise.
