Here are my thoughts, for better or worse.
UNC is a brand beholden to Nike. Nike Jordan rules the market. The NCAA wants to punish UNC for outside of the rule book class taking by UNC's Nike Jordan contract bound players heading towards the NBA. JThey specifically mentioned Football and Basketball in this article. No mention of other sports.
They, the NCAA, is trying an unprecedented 3rd time to squeeze UNC for $$$. Legal or not it might work against UNC.

SO, UNC has held the NCAA at bay thus far, keeping them from getting their fair share of the dough raked in by Nike Jordan brand players.

@BShark Agreed. At this point it seems like Bragg may need to come back to KU next season, especially if KU doesnt do well in March.
My impression of Preston is almost a Point Forward. Im no scout but from what Ive seen, the kid has handles like a guard. Bragg, Doke and Preston next season in the post!? Yes please!

Im watching the replay of UK/Louisville. Both those teams are final four caliber.

@jaybate-1.0 Fully agree. I mean Ive had my moments where I question what Coach does with his line ups, his rotations, his game planning. But I keep coming back to the 2012 season.
Are Lando and Bragg equal to Withey and Trob? HELL NO! But they dont have to be. Coach can literally glue the 5 man position together for serviceable stats and minutes with Lando, Bragg and a combo of Coleby and Mitch.
Our back court, our guards are by far and away better than anything we had in '12. its not close.
I wasnt able to see the game last night but Im betting that Coach Self gets things glued together just fine for the conference. Coleby will learn that force of will is stronger than the body. You focus laser strong at something and it happens.
I have the utmost confidence in Self to glue this team together and we will absolutely be under dogs going in the the Madness, but, thats ok. We have been under dogs every single time we have reached the Final Four, the title game. '88, under dogs. '08 underdogs. ( everyone was picking memphis and UNC) 2012, noone picked KU to get that far.
We can do that again this year. No reason we cant. Lando and Bragg gotta play their butts off. Coleby gotta wrap that knee and pretend its bionic.
@BeddieKU23 I saw that headline and thought OMG is that for real? Heck yah its a major blow. Doka leads us in blocks and right up there in rebounds. How do we replace that without another 7ft body in there?
On the other hand, our free throw shooting % might improve and our foul #'s per 40 might go down as a team.
Ball dont lie. Doka cant shoot FT's to save his life right now and he fouls out in like 5 minutes....ok exaggerating

So, Lando and Bragg will absolutely have to step up their games pronto!!
Mitch and Coleby will hopefully be serviceable enough to split minutes as our 3rd big man.
And heck, I havent read anyone else's replies but our team 5 years ago made it to the Final Four with only 6 guys! ok, 7 if you count J Wesley
Back to Udoka. He hurt his non shooting hand, yah? SO, once he gets it fixed and gets it in a brace, wouldnt it be possible for him to work on free throws?? I mean, NO motion with non shooting hand except to aim.
He could seriously do that. Of course, Im no orthopedic surgeon, but it sorta makes sense to me. Wrap the shizzle out of his injured wrist, brace it up big time, let the big fella shoot FT's till he makes 70-80% of them all the time.

@wissox Joel learns so fast and improves so fast. We've all seen it at KU. He is bigger and stronger and more skilled now than anyone at the 5 spot...as a freeking Rookie.

Second hand, its unfortunate that cops are looked upon with such distrust. BUT, they kinda did it to themselves, and I know, we cannot generalize or make snap judgements. Its not fair to everyone who wears the uniform. Not all cops are bad, etc...

@BeddieKU23 Yep. No way thats accurate. Bragg is secondary to that. Doke will get more minutes, develop faster as a result. Lando will get more minutes, get his confidence and health back on point.
When Bragg comes back, we will need him, but not to make a deep tourney run.

Carlton is a kid. Yeah, he is 20, technically an adult. But he's still a kid who made a mistake getting himself into a situation like that.
Are we supposed to expect that any of the players are supposed to be less fallible than We are? NO!
How can we point the finger and lay blame and demand the harshest punishment for something without giving Carlton a second chance. Huh!?
NO, he deserves his day in court and what ever the outcome, he deserves a second chance to learn from this and be a better Man for it.

So, Im reading this book that @jaybate-1.0 suggested to me. Basketball, Multiple Offense and Defense by Dean Smith! Love it so far. Im barely through the first chapter and its fascinating stuff for real. Im no player or coach, never have been. But the book is written in a way that fans of the game can understand.
I have a question for every one.
Coach Self. Is he a system type coach or a flexible type coach?
Coach Smith defines system as; " extremely methodical and precise in his approach to every aspect of the game"
Flexible as; " who will make major changes annually based upon the caliber of their personnel."
Dean Smith himself defined his own style as a hybrid of both, kind of in the middle.
I see Coach Self as more System than Flexible BUT this year he absolutely has had to be flexible.
Will Coach Self return to more of his Systematic approach when our Bigs come up to speed?

But Bragg is still just a kid, he has a chance to learn from this and be a better man for it. He'll have to take his punishment like an adult. He'll have to do some serious introspecting.

My uneducated opinion is that KU will win the league pretty easily, even with C5 playing less good than last season. lol, less good.
Baylor has a chance to make things interesting but Shorty Drew seems to choke late in season and KU will absolutely eat up Baylors zone.
WVU's press? No different. All 5 of our guards are probly salivating right now at the thought of that match up too.
The Big12 is down from last year. We wont get 7 teams in the dance. 4, maybe 5, maybe.
@kjayhawks Thomas Robinson and the Twins. What he did with those guys is nothing short of amazing. TRob, tragic what happened to him, Coach Self was basically like his second father.
The twins, so raw and rebellious, turned them in to Ballers who stuck in the big leagues.

My thoughts on 600 for Coach Self. Roy got 600 faster but he couldnt win a title at KU. Coach Self, if he keeps going another 10 years, should break 1K wins. Should. Plus add another Title or two.
When the day comes for Coach Self to move on, be it retirement or another team( not likely ) , or the Pros, I wont be mad. I'll be proud of him.
@jayballer54 To be fair it was UMKC last night. But I agree with you Jayball. I truly believe no other team has the 5 guard elite like KU does. Maybe 3 or 4 but not 5 guys. I also believe that Coach Self will figure the post problems out pretty darn soon.
Ya'll remember our talk last year of the "C5''? Well, we are more like the C4 right now. Lando,Bragg and Doka plus Lightfoot/Coleby on spot duties. Lando seems to be getting better, which bodes well for when then conference starts. Bragg is improving too. He just does dum stuff sometimes and it gets him benched.
Those guys will be fine.

Self adjusting his game plans per the opponent this year is basically magic, bunny out of a hat type stuff. He really hasnt done that historically. Now he has the team to do it. Those guys just need to be able to make their own Free Bees at > 70% as a team. Bragg, Lando, Doka,Coleby need to at least work up to breaking even on defensive boarding with the other team too.
That happens, we will be very hard to take down in late March.
