Who wants to bet that somehow, some way, we are set up to meet MU in the 2nd round -- 1 vs. 8/9, 2 vs. 7/10? Seems like the easiest bracketology prediction we could make.

NCAA had a chance to do this in 2013 when both Missouri and Wichita St. played in different regions in the 8/9 game. The committee instead gave KU UNC/Villanova as their 8/9 seed. If the committee didn't set up a potential Border War game that season (Missouri's 1st in the SEC), Then I don't see them putting Missouri in a potential match up with Kansas this year either.

So #1 seed depends on us winning the tourney now I’d think. An 8 loss #1 seed would definitely be an anomoly.

I would say a 1 seed is out of KU's control at this point even if they win the Big 12 tournament. KU would be dependent upon others losing to get back to the 1 line, primarily Duke and Xavier.

"We don't have anybody that can guard him" • Mar 03, 2018 07:58 PM

@BShark I think Moore starts at PG at the beginning of the year. Dotson will get there, but I think he's going to have a learning curve early on and Moore is already acclimated to high level college basketball.

My hopes for KU post season • Mar 03, 2018 04:09 PM

History says KU will reach the Elite 8 and then crap the bed and score about 55 points against someone that isn't as good as KU.

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 04:50 PM

Virginia would be a real bad match up for us. Fortunately, the Final Four is when it would happen at this point it would appear.

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 04:06 PM

@JayHawkFanToo They've only reached 70 twice in ACC play. They can't score enough against good teams having a good night.

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 03:46 PM

Virginia's issue will always be their lack offense. When they have to outscore someone, they can't do it.

The Coach of the year? • Mar 01, 2018 11:33 PM

@Gunman There's going to be at least one non senior leave the program after this season. Whether it's an early entrant or a transfer, KU currently has 14 scholarships committed to next season which means someone, my money would be on either Vick or Cunliffe, transfers out of the program.

Lance LeGendre • Mar 01, 2018 03:03 AM

@Kcmatt7 Hull is already associate head coach. The RB position has also been good enough that I think Hull would be a fine OC. He does have experience calling plays at the HS level and was very successful at the HS level so I would have no issues if the next HC retained Hull and promoted him to OC.

The Coach of the year? • Mar 01, 2018 02:33 AM

I think Self will be in the discussion, but I think Tony Bennett is going to win it this year.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Do we think Hull is actually capable of being a Collegiate level OC?

It'd be worth it to give him a shot in order to keep his prospects in Lawrence.

How does Nova go 3-3 over the last 20 days and still get ranked 4th in the nation? Saint Mary's has the same record and they are ranked 22nd on ESPN top 25. I just don't get it! KU would have dropped out of the top 25 if the shoe was on the other foot!

We did have a stretch where KU went 3-3 from late January to mid February. KU dropped from 5th to 13th during that time.

Another reason why Nova didn't drop much was because everyone else was losing during that time as well.

Lance LeGendre • Feb 27, 2018 05:15 PM

We're still at a point where the verbal is a big deal because of how good this kid is. It's also not worth celebrating because it's not December and he hasn't signed on the dotted line yet.

Even if Beaty doesn't survive to year 5, the best way to keep this kid and the other Louisiana kids wound be to have the next HC name Tony Hull as OC.

I cannot wait to see how dominant our front court will be next season with Doke and Dedric manning the paint.

@kjayhawks I think it was in either 2005 or 2006 and I'm pretty sure it was in Columbia and KU lost.

@kjayhawks Hope we have better luck than usual when we wear the crimson uniforms.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED • Feb 25, 2018 07:04 PM

8 straight road wins over top 10 teams really might be just as impressive as the 14 is. I didn't realize KU had done that.

Another streak KU set a record in, last season I believe, that's gotten little to no publicity is KU's consecutive NCAA tournament made streak.

Even more impressive than the NCAA tournament streak to me has been where KU has been seeded in each tournament. Only twice during KU's consecutive NCAA tournament streak has KU been lower than a 4 seed. Those 2 seasons happened back to back in the 1999 and 2000 tournaments. That's just mind blowing to me tgat KU has been that highly ranked in the NCAA Tournament every year. That's another streak that may never get broken as well.

Hello • Feb 25, 2018 12:45 AM

Graham absolutely willed this team to victory in the second half today. Really didn't think this would happen about a month ago.

@Buster-1926 The NCAA isn't the FBI. They don't have to follow innocent until proven guilty in this case. They can nail Sean Miller to the wall tomorrow if they really wanted to in this case.

Worst case for KU will likely be some combination of probation and a loss of a scholarship. If more comes out, that could change, but for $2700, there won't be anything major with KU.

wissox said:

Well, I'll say it doesn't suck that TT lost tonight! It just took some of the luster off of Saturdays game.

I don't think it did. It now shifted all the attention to KU clinching 14 and that will absolutely be the top story on Gameday.

@wissox We can now clinch a share of 14 with a win on Saturday. I like that a lot better than only going one up on Tech with a win. It would also set up KU winning the league outright on senior night against Texas.

I really like the current scenario KU is in over the one they would've been in had Tech won tonight.

It's not SE Oklahoma, it's North Central Oklahoma.

@jayballer73 The PAC 12 is the number 5 conference in the country, they're not as bad as you want to believe they are.

Bracketology thread for the next few weeks. • Feb 21, 2018 04:58 PM

@jayballer73 All I'll say is that while you're laughing at the PAC 12, KU went 1-2 against the mid level teams in the Pac 12 including 0-2 in home games. Perhaps the Pac 12 isn't as weak as you think they are.

How they perform in March will determine who goes earlier between Devonte and Shamet.

No it won't, Shamet will be a late 1st rounder and Graham is going to be a mid to late 2nd rounder.

Blue vs White • Feb 21, 2018 02:44 AM

KU wore 2008 throwbacks and since KU wore blue in that 2008 title game, that's why they wore blue on Saturday.

Also, home teams are allowed to choose which color uniform they wear.

Louisville must forfeit 2013 Title • Feb 21, 2018 12:58 AM

Gotta admit, I didn't think UL would be forced to vacate the 2013 title. I thought anything and everything else would happen to them

Forde's Missouri bias is showing. He should be worried Cuonzo Martin and how he landed Porter.

Who tanks? • Feb 21, 2018 12:38 AM

@drgnslayr Young and Bamba are lottery picks, Svi and Graham are 2nd rounders. Landry Shamet is going to be the highest drafted player from the state of Kansas this year.

I don't agree. This team is just too good to lose to #16 seed. All the loses have been to very good or good teams, a #16 seed would likely be ranked outside the top 100 and would have had to be in a play-in game. The parity in college basketball is in the top 20-40 teams not between a top 10 and a below 100 team. No way, no how, no ma'am.

well I know one for sure that's not good. - - Washington is not a good team - you consider Washington a good team ? - if you do you need to grab a websters and look up the definition of good. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Have you looked at the PAC 12 standings? 5th place Washington is a clear bubble team that has a winning conference record right now. Baylor and OSU are both worse losses for KU than Washington is right now.

Who tanks? • Feb 20, 2018 05:11 PM

We win on Saturday, it doesn't matter.

SILVIO!!! • Feb 20, 2018 04:08 AM

Silvio is going to be one of the anchors of this team in 2019-2020 after Doke and Dedric move on.

truehawk93 said:

Ok, who says TT goes down against WVU?

I DO

Won't matter after KU beats them Saturday.

Also, OSU is a one point favorite over Tech on Wednesday night. Should be noted that Baylor was also a small favorite over Tech last Saturday.

This is just an old fashioned ass whippin tonight.

@BShark With the Doke is progressing, are we sure Dedric is going to be the best player on the team next year and not Doke?

Did Doke just knock 2 guys down on that dunk?

Newman's step back is so pretty

I think the 3 pointers made record is in jeopardy tonight.

BShark said:

This is honestly shocking from Silvio. He looked lost before. Gotta try to get him more minutes going forward. His athleticism is very apparent.

It looks like it's starting to click for him. DeSousa becoming a legit option would be huge for KU going forward into March.

They are getting all of their points right at the rim...

Doke being out really hurts.

Lightfoot with 3 fouls hurts too. He can't go for those blocks right now.

@DCHawker Because he didn't want his 3rd foul which would've likely happened had he gone to the floor.

That should've been a no call. Doke did nothing but stand still.

Nice to see DeSousa get some extended minutes with this lead.

Even though Garrett missed that lay up, I love seeing him play more aggressively on offense.

I'm enjoying Mitch's block party as well!

Graham channeling Sherron tonight.

Great start for KU tonight!

KU/OU Recap • Feb 19, 2018 11:01 PM

Dick Vitale is calling the game tonight so I likely won't be paying much attention to the announcing to keep track of your predictions.

@BeddieKU23 Duke isn't getting a 1 seed. That loss to a terrible St. John's ruined any shot they had.

This is also why using the RPI and this new quadrant system is garbage. Michigan State has clearly been a top 4 team this season and should be the 1 seed in the Midwest this season.
