@Jhawk69 said in Furphy out for Friday's game vs Yale:

@Texas-Hawk-10 That would not be the sole reason but Timberlake is bad enough to cost us a game that we would have won otherwise

Yale's not that team though. Timberlake could play all 40 minutes against Yale and KU would still win.

@Jhawk69 said in Furphy out for Friday's game vs Yale:

If Timberlake gets too many minutes we could lose this one. Jamari and Jankovic need go step up

If KU somehow lost to Yale, it wouldn't be because of Timberlake playing too many minutes. There'd be many, many other reasons before that.

Team discussion after 10 games • Dec 18, 2023 01:34 AM

KU is a title contender, but depth will be an issue throughout the year.

Self has to find a way to give Harris some breaks during the game otherwise he won't last the year at a productive level.

@dylans said in Our stadium remodel:

@FarmerJayhawk What’s campanile tower for? Thought that was the monument. Different war?

I know the stadiums name, but the performances in there have been a sad way to memorialize anything. You can point to individual success and a couple bowl years, but it’s a pretty sorry 123 year history we have on the gridiron. That should ruffle your feathers. It’s unacceptable and hopefully Lance is the one to right the ship.

The Campanile is the WWII memorial and the football stadium is the WWI memorial.

And Allen Fieldhouse is a munitions armory which is how it got approved to be built early in the Cold War.

A Kansas Jayhawk, KSU Wildcat, and Missouri Tiger are walking along a beach and find a magic lamp so of course they rub it and a magical genie pops out and says he'll grant them one wish each.

The Missouri Tiger being the impatient creature that they are says that Columbia, MO is the greatest city to ever exist, and he's tired of outsiders coming in and contaminating this most glorious city, so naturally he asks the genie to build a wall around Columbia to keep outsiders away from his paradise. The genie snaps his fingers and makes a wall pop up around Columbia.

The KSU Wildcat is next and tells the genie about his family history of wheat farming in Kansas going back to the 1800's and asks the genie to make the farmlands of Kansas forever fertile, so the genie with a bob of his head makes Kansas the most fertile place on earth.

The Kansas Jayhawk is last and while trying to decide what to wish for, is intrigued by the idea of wall around Lawrence so he decides to ask the genie about the details of the wall around Columbia. The genie tells him the wall is 50' tall and 25' thick and that nobody can get in or out. The Jayhawk, after thinking for a few minutes, makes his decision and tells the genie to fill in Columbia with water.

Jersey Retirements • Dec 05, 2023 10:02 PM

KU has announced two jersey retirements this season including Saturday against Missouri and that one couldn't be more appropriate. Thomas Robinson will have his #0 hung in the rafters Saturday.

Also, Bill "Skinny" Johnson will have his #33 hung in the rafters during the Cincinnati game. Johnson played at KU during the early 1930's and was a top amateur player in the AAU at the time after his years at Kansas.

BS that undefeated FSU isn't the fourth team to the fake playoff, but it'll be fun to watch Michigan and Alabama I guess. Actually, maybe I'll just check the score later.

Sorry, but I don't want to see a Jordan Travis-less FSU get beat by 30+ points against Michigan. Player injuries is one of the criteria for determining ranking and I don't know if you saw any of FSU's games against Florida or Louisville without Travis, but they didn't look good in either game.

More than I want to spend this year since I'm probably going to New Orleans in February. I also don't want to spend Christmas in Phoenix either.

@kjayhawks said in Guaranteed Rate Bowl Vs. UNLV. December 26 8 PM:

@Crimsonorblue22 I know I’m not lol, average fan can’t afford to drop 5k like that

It costs nowhere near 5k to go unless you're flying first class and staying and some very high end hotel/Air BnB.

For me, driving to Phoenix (16 hours from Houston) and 4 nights in a decent hotel near downtown, plus tickets was going to run about $12-1,500. Definitely much more expensive than Memphis last year, but not bank breaking to travel to for most people.

Liberty over SMU is a joke. Oregon is going to do things only Jerry Falwell would be into to them

I also don't feel like any G5 team deserved a spot this year in a NY6 game, but I'm fine with an undefeated Liberty getting in over 2 loss SMU when one of those 2 losses was an uncompetitive loss to a non bowl eligible TCU team.

If FSU wins they have to be in. If Bama wins , you can’t put them in and NOT Texas. They would have the same record , both conference champs, but Texas obviously Beat Bama at Bama by 10.

Losing Jordan Travis matters and an ugly win tonight won't help FSU's cause because they aren't a better team than Texas without Travis.

That’s never really mattered though. It’s never the 4 “best” teams. If FSU goes 13-0 they deserve to be in.

Available players was a criteria and FSU missing Jordan Travis mattered as it should have. Someone was going to be screwed over and FSU without Jordan Travis has not looked like a playoff team against an average Florida team and an average Louisville team.

@FarmerJayhawk yes it does, obviously Washington is locked in being #3 and winning the conference. But yes if FSU, Georgia and/or Michigan lose. It becomes a total guess

In that scenario, Washington, Texas, and Alabama would be in and it would likely ve Georgia that gets that 4th spot.

At this point, without Jordan Travis, I'm think FSU may have to blow out Louisville to keep the 4th seed and a close win may drop them below Texas at this point with how dominant Texas was today.

@stoptheflop said in Bowl game tracker:

So which record carries the most weight, overall wins/losses or conference record? Using overall KU's 8-4 record puts us in a tie for 3rd with KST and WV. But, conference record of 5-4 puts us in a tie for 7th with Tx Tech. We'll know Sunday for sure. Why doesn't the NCAA make a big deal out of the announcements like the NCAA tournament? I guess the individual bowls want to make the announcements to their schools as soon as possible so there's no control over the information getting out.

NCAA doesn't hype it because they don't make money from it. A majority of the bowls are actually operated by ESPN so they have original content to air this time of year.

Conference record is typically what carries more weight, but that's not the only factor determining who plays in which bowl game. Each bowl game is given a spot in the priority order and when it's that bowl game's time to choose, they can choose any eligible team from that conference, but the bowls mostly do follow the order of finish in the conference when selecting.

For example, Kentucky's record has them slotted into the Music City Bowl this year, but they've played there a bunch in recent years and basically told the SEC that they want to play in a different bowl game this year. KU's record would have them slotted into the Liberty Bowl again this year, but some bowls try to avoid bringing teams back in consecutive years.

Is KU a more attractive team than WVU this year? Maybe, but the team that's consistently been projected to the Texas Bowl in recent weeks is Texas A&M which is the team that bowl cares more about landing because College Station is about a 90 minute drive from Houston and will be the ticket seller for the game since Houston is the largest A&M alumni base. Because of that, they won't really care who the Big 12 is and will likely take whoever the highest finishing B12 team left is when it's their turn to choose if they land A&M.

This is what frustrates me about the fanbase sometimes. People complain about not letting high ceiling freshmen play through mistakes and develop so they can help KU in March/April at the expense of a couple of wons in November/December. Elmarko Jackson was a projected late lottery pick entering the season. Johnny Furphy has an NBA future, yet those same people are complaining about how many minutes they got compared to McDowell last night. Those fans can't have it both ways. Elmarko Jackson needs to be given time to develop as a PG and I hope Self let's Jackosn run a bit of PG this month since KU has a manageable schedule before conference play starts.

@coolfool13 said in Is McDowell injured? Dnp against UConn. Furphy showed some improvement. I hope for steady improvement!:

I thought he showed a little moxie in last few games. No show tonight- is he injured??

This was a short bench game for Self.

Furphy has been the only bench player this half for KU. But good grief this team sucks at FT's amd somehow UConn was actually worse tonight.

Good start so far for KU.

KU needs to bring it tonight since they were looking ahead on Tuesday night.

@stoptheflop said in Andy Kotelnicki:

My comment isn't necessarily about Coach Andy, but maybe. After seeing Jason's nearly perfect performance against Cincy, I'm really pissed our coaches didn't start him against KState. Unless available means he can't play, why the hell didn't our best QB play in the game that means the most to KU fans in Kansas? Ballard played his best, but he's nowhere near the QB who was declared available before the game. For me, the KState game was the most important game on the schedule. Maybe Coach Lance doesn't understand how much a W against KState means to us. Even if we win the bowl game, I'll still remember the W that KU should have gotten against KState.

Remember the Texas game and how bad Bean played in that game because he didn't get practice reps. If Bean didn't get many practice reps during KSU week, then he likely wouldn't have played well in that game.

Eastern Illinois. 344 Ken Pom KU #5 • Nov 29, 2023 06:00 PM

@approxinfinity said in Eastern Illinois. 344 Ken Pom KU #5:

The funny thing about Wayne saying the ball needs to go to Hunter every play to score is exactly why that team got beat by Bucknell. The team was broken because it tried to feed it to Wayne every play.

When Simien was saying the ball needed to go to Hunter on every possession, he's not saying that Hunter needs to shoot every time. He's saying that Hunter is KU's best offensive player and him touching the ball opens things up for others because Hunter is getting double and triple teamed on a regular basis. That's what Wayne meant by playing through Hunter.

I meant will they think twice about giving ksu a better bowl than us considering they are losing quality players and maybe lack a great fan crowd.

Pop Tarts Bowl officials have been at a lot of recent KSU games so that seems like the most likely scenario for them. The conference title games could also impact the Big 12 as Texas still has a shot at the CFP and OU is still in play for a NY6 Bowl which could impact KU and bump us up to the Texas Bowl.

Welp Will Howard is done at K/State • Nov 28, 2023 01:28 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 said in Welp Will Howard is done at K/State:

Is their coach leaving? Weird!

Not unless some other job comes open. Texas A&M and Michigan St. were two most likely spots for Klieman and both have been filled. Anything else would be a lateral move at best so I don't see Klieman leaving at this point. Now if Ohio St. gets restless with Ryan Day's inability to beat Michigan, then that's a game changer.

@FarmerJayhawk said in Now that regular Season is over / time to for some reflections.:

Our 2024 schedule is also Charmin soft. 10 wins should be the expectation

I would agree. In conference play, @KSU and @WVU dhould be the two most challenging games. ISU could be a challenge. UNLV could actually be the most challenging non-confernce game for KU as they were 9-3 this season and will play in the Mountain West title game.

I definitely think playing in the B12 title game and reaching a NY6 Bowl next season are realistic possibilities at this point for KU.

Here's how much better our season could have been: There's 7 teams with better or equal records than us in the league and we played 6 of them. There's 6 teams with worse records and we played 3 of them. There's so much to like about what this team did this year and the future is shining bright.

And with a good special teams unit, we're sitting at 11-1, playing Texas in Dallas with a good shot at a NY6 bowl.

Bowl game tracker • Nov 26, 2023 08:16 PM

And that's the likely destination for KU if Oklahoma doesn't get into a NY6 Bowl. If OU does get into a NY6 Bowl, then KU would likely end up in the Texas Bowl since they'd be unlikely to go back to the Liberty Bowl this year.
