You guys see what you are doing there, right? Talking about how tech is going to only have two grad transfers and a developmental four* and juco yet should still be a top 15, top 10 program next season. Maybe, I don't know.... I sense a lovefest for Coach Beard.
The proof is in the pudding isn't it? He took Tech to the Elite 8 and Finals in the last two years. It's not a lovefest as much as giving the coach respect for what he's done recently. I expect he takes those transfers and new players and molds his team into a Top 25 program and thorn in KU's side in the Big-12. We shouldn't expect anything less after the last two years
Exactly. I think the last two years Beard has proven he knows how to take a couple grad transfers and plug them into his current roster and make it work. Not a love fest at all just showing and giving respect to a great coach who is only going to get better.
Part of my point was if you had looked at the very early preseason Top 25's ( I agree they are silly, but fun) Tech was ranked around 20-25 or not even ranked. Now with these two pickups they will be a top 15 team.
I haven't seen anything regarding Walker's recruitment other than KU and Arkansas were the perceived leaders a few weeks ago.
@jayballer73 He has not reclassified.
I think Tech will again be a top 15 team. I saw someone said they would be a top 10 team with the additions of Holyfield and Clark. Beard is a transfer magician!
- I am not trying to bash Grimes. Sure I would like all players that are not first round picks to come back but it’s their choice and that’s fine.
I mean isn’t part of life about making decisions and living with the consequences? I want to see all people in life succeed as it would make the world a better place. Unfortunately that’s not a reality. Some of these kids are just hell bent on being OAD and don’t care what anyone says. We literally have the perfect example of that in Grimes. I’d bet Self even told him that he needs to come back and work on his game, but he and his parents don’t care what a HOF coach has to say. So let him live with his decision of being a late second round pick / not drafted at all on a 2 way contract at best.
These kids have NBA scouts and personnel along with college coaches giving them honest feedback. It’s on them if they don’t listen to it and instead listen to their handlers , parents, etc...
Sorry, but I don’t think feel sorry for any of these kids that make bonehead decisions to turn pro when not ready.
However, just saw Evan Daniels put in his CB pick for Memphis for Precious this morning.
So Adam Zagoria just tweeted that his prediction for Precious was KU. He only tweets out predictions days before the announcements and is hardly ever wrong. I am still not sold we get him, but I was surprised by this.

Once the NBAs OAD rule is gone I hope that the NCAA requires “student” athletes to stay in school 2 years. But I’d like to see the scholarships guaranteed for 4 years (barring something egregious ie prison). I know you really can’t make this happen, but maybe have the kid sign a contract with the U that has a buyout of whatever a year of that scholarship and housing is really worth. I’d like them to think about it at least. I’m looking at you Grimes...$40k isn’t anything to sneeze at in the G-league.
I don't understand why people keep saying the OAD is going to go away. Players are still going to only go to college for one year and enter the draft. ( Not trying to call you out @dylans ) I just keep hearing people say this it isn't true. I understand that the "elite" players will soon ( hopefully) have the option to go straight to the NBA however, when that rule is put in place there are still going to be OAD players.
Hopefully it will all be over this weekend with RJ. He is literally make or break for next years team. Precious and Watford are for sure announcing this weekend so that will be all of the top 50 recruits except for Jaden McDaniels.
Although, you have to think Michigan is going to get a high major coach so there still could be more de commits pending who they hire.
You can teach fundamentals you can not teach athleticism. So I will take someone with God given athleticism everyday and would hope the coaches can teach him the right way to play the game.

Has it been mentioned here that RJ and Jalen are best friends?
KU was one of his 6 schools he was considering before he committed to Michigan.
I always felt Wilson was one that got away. Had a sort of Tyler Davis feel to it in a way.
It sounds like whoever they hire will be the only thing that matters. If they wait out the hire we're probably getting excited about nothin burgers.
If they are smart Yaklich will be retained on the staff.
Bielein should take him to Cleveland
I read this was a very real possibility.
@FarmerJayhawk getting Jalen would be huge
Boogie Ellis committed to Memphis tonight

Yea this kid is going to be in some Olympics.
@FarmerJayhawk for who??
I don’t see how they fill the 13 allotted scholarships now after missing on both Tucker and Holyfield. Might have a hard time getting to even 12.
Well after today I’d say no.
If he is turning down private workouts for NBA teams he either feels very very good about his appeal or is not very smart. He seems like a pretty bright kid so...

Corey Evans flipped his pick on Precious from Memphis to Kansas this morning...
Do you have to be a subscriber to see these picks? Where is it??
@FarmerJayhawk so does Hyland really have a list of schools he’s considering or is his recruitment kind of just starting since he took off?? Has he taken any visits ?
@dylans where is that at on the Turnpike?
Duke already landing 5* players for 2020. Jeremy Roach a PG is the first of many I would assume .
@ajvan I think he will get some minutes. Hard to tell how many until the entire roster is filled out though.
@nuleafjhawk It is the lesser of two evils for me. I am a outdoors person so snow and rain makes it tough to run, play golf, mow, etc...
I am so sick and tired of rain. I think it is supposed to rain some more tonight in the KC metro area.
Yep. Nothing is going to change. The NCAA isn't going to take money out of their own pockets to compensate the players in some way so shoe companies are going to continue to do it. Until the NCAA makes a fundamental change then it is going to keep on keeping on.
As they say : it is what it is
@FarmerJayhawk I don't think so. We play Duke in the Champions Classic I believe.
Johnny Juzang will announce on Friday. He is going to Kentucky. It also appears now that Kentucky is going to land Jaden McDaniels a top 10 player in the 2019 class. Seemed like Washington was his leader forever, but Evan Daniels just put in his pick for UK. Pretty monster class for UK. 4 of the top 25 players.
Does his commitment affect Holyfield's at all?
Well he wouldn't be the "man" at Memphis either.
Who is Bill Hipple?

Let’s get the ball rolling!!

I have been reliably informed that Hampton and Boogie are mutually exclusive for Memphis.
I am confused now. You are saying that Memphis is only taking one of them and NOT both if possible. Correct?

I’m claiming myself down.
I’d really like to see Memphis land a few more guys just really steer Hampton here. Always that chance Daniels has bad info.
I think Memphis is going to get Lester on Friday the also Precious and Boogie. So that’s 3 more guys. Obviously if they needed too they would make room for RJ , but I think that puts them at 13.
Side note that’s a monster class for Penny. I would assume top 3 in the country.

In other news. Precious to Memphis is done.
looks like it - -but if we can land Holyfield and or both him and Enrauna - - -it be all right.
I'd bet money Enaruna ends up in Omaha.
I’ll be disappointed if that’s the case. He would be a great 3-4 year player that could develop under Self at KU. I hope they somehow still land him.

Just a guess. Silvio doesn’t need the G League combine because overseas is the plan. For all we know he got a good offer.
While this makes a little sense and still doesn’t hurt him to go to the combine. One would assume his end goal is the NBA and he needs all the reps he can get in front of NBA personnel since they haven’t really seen him play. Live reps would do him some good.
Other possibilities are he injured something or that they are expecting good news on the appeal.
All in all it seems like a odd decision and from the quote I saw yesterday Self acted like it was a surprise to him as well.
@Kcmatt7 I hear you! Usually when Evan makes a pick not only is it the right one, but it is usually pretty close to the announcement!
Would be real nice if he popped in the coming weeks so we don't have to sweat it out. I think we are due one from the recruiting gods.
@Kcmatt7 If you are talking about Ryan his pick was made 4/27/2018.
@KirkIsMyHinrich People most likely had Duke picked before he dropped them and are too lazy to go back and change the pick.
That is one of the huge problems with the CB. That happens quite often.

EVAN DANIELS WITH THE KU CRYSTAL BALL DROP TODAY.
Oh My!
@DCHawker Which winery out in Napa is it?
How many scholarships does Memphis still have open?
I think they played Cliff Alexander’s team in the semifinals.
Congrats to Mario.
Admon Gilder committed to Gonzaga. A&M grad transfer.
Sounds like Bryce Thompson has blown up this Spring. I’ve seen a lot of articles about how much he has improved. I really hope Self and the staff are prioritizing him. Looks like a lot of new schools are recruiting him now.
@dylans Yep. He and his lawyers have done a great job of keeping him on as coach. He is making a ton of money and just milking it. If he gets fired for this nobody will touch him for a while so he better be saving his money!
