@RedRooster I've had problems with that box not taking me to latest when on mobile. Do you have the problems on desktop?
Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. It's really nice. Glad this place is holding up, and happy to be part of this community.
@JRyman Really glad you're feeling better. There's no app, but the site seems to work pretty well on mobile web. Posting is still a little tedious, but probably would be in an app too I guess.
@Clydecito Don't be a stranger during bball season. If you have a different take on something, please jump in and give it to us!
@DoubleDD I've always enjoyed your heart-string-tugging diatribes.
They better avoid Point plankn.

I've upgraded the board to latest this evening.
To all those who have been frustrated the last 30 minutes or so while I worked on the board, sorry. I think the login issue is now fixed as well as the password email.
@ralster @HighEliteMajor @Crimsonorblue22 @jaybate-1.0
Thanks as always for those reporting issues. It really helps everyone.
For old times sake...

@ralster ugh! I read you loud and clear. Heading home from vacation as we speak. Will be upgrading the board this week. In the meantime if you get this can you try clearing cookies on your browser or trying a different browser and see if that works? Sorry this is happening to you. We will get you squared away and thanks for letting me know.
@jaybate-1.0 They look fishy. I don't know why they were created, but I think anyone can see them if you look at the users list. I've banned a few IPs; the more permanent solution would be requiring email validation, which I tried, but that's when we ran into the problem with the emails (which I am hoping might be included in the fixes when i upgrade to latest this coming week). We'll see.
@jaybate-1.0 Sure, makes sense to me. I'd love to see more of your art. If we did want to go the album route we might be able to figure something good out. There are a few extensions for nodebb that I never got working re: lightbox and another third party gallery site; wasn't sure if they were still maintained, but didn't dig too deeply. I'll look back into them soon.
@jaybate-1.0 Unfortunately the majority of the new accounts since upgrade this offseason are bogus accounts. I've deleted a bunch but more have been created I have yet to clear out. I think we're positioned well to get new traffic and I'm thinking about spreading the word if anyone wants to lend a hand with it.
@jaybate-1.0 i think the idea with nodebb boards is that you add your pics in threads and all searching would be done through threads so that's how the pics would get tracked down. Do you think it would be hard to find the pics that way?
@jaybate-1.0 lets hope you're right. I enjoyed the reasoned optimism. Fun read.
@Statmachine you know I've been watching the search terms that we show up on closely, and searches for Svi have dwarfed searches for anything else by a huge margin in terms of impressions (times our site showed up in a page the Google user scrolled to) . I've been thinking that this may be a coordinated effort by people who have interest in promoting Svi, his camp or possibly the Ukrainian government. That and/ or we may be one of the few places really tracking him and the KU faithful out there have a massive interest (compare 1000+ impressions for Svi to about 30 for Oubre for example).
If the Ukrainians are artificially boosting Svi I hope it's because they know he's going to be a star! For those not into conspiracy theories I deeply apologize.
@KUinLA ... I'd trade 10 Conference titles for a tip-off tonight! :)
Well said!
@Crimsonorblue22 Alright alright, time to shut this puppy down! Man, we're getting stir crazy and we've got two months to go... Show's OVAH!! :lock: Next!
@drgnslayr btw, this post got a bunch of impressions for our site and several organic visitors to our site from people querying about ice bucket challenge rules and safety. It's always interesting to me what gets the traffic. Choosing the right title (that matches what people will query for) is huge. Winner!
@JayHawkFanToo I would take the more prestigious job title. As you said, earlier in a career, the title is more important, and in my experience the money will follow the job title.
I would argue that unlike an individual's career, KU basketball never retires, it is effectively always the young and hungry professional, so in the analogy, the annual pay increase will always be a consolation prize to a title promotion, which everyone recognizes. This is maybe less universal and more specific to my work than I originally thought (@nuleafjhawk).
- Conference titles are to college basketball as save points are to video game levels.
- Conference titles are to college basketball as midterm tests are to a report card.
- Conference titles are to college basketball as nationals in track and field are to the Olympics.
- Conference titles are to college basketball as annual raises are to a promotion.
@JayHawkFanToo I love this question. It'll say Wiggins is a bad ass. I don't think it's possible this year given how loaded the West is but it could happen in a OKC type of time frame... Durant Westbrook and Harden... A few years to get a few more assets. But if it happens in the next three years it would make people ask tough questions about the Love trade.
And not that knuckle headed young guard everyone was wet dreaming on last season.
I hope you're right as I think Mario is better than Napier and without LeBron we see a recognition of Mario as a man in his prime. Think Mario leads the league in steals next year? I'm buying.
In other news, Bradford out for the season with a torn ACL is really a bummer. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11402476/sam-bradford-st-louis-rams-season-torn-acl β β. I remember thinking we were going to see Bradford and Colt McCoy for years to come when they came out in 2010.
@JayhawkRock78 Dan Carlin's hardcore history podcast is one of my favorites, and Blueprint for an Armageddon series about WWI really touched me. You can check it out here http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/hharchive β β
@JayHawkFanToo Definitely if the Heat beat Cleveland it will be shocking and won't happen unless LeBron implodes. If the Bulls beat them this year they will explain it away with the team not gelling or something else other than LeBron. But next year if Cleveland doesn't get out of the East it will certainly be a massive disappointment.
@JayHawkFanToo said:> How embarrassing will it be when San Antonio sweeps Cleveland in next season's finals? or will Cleveland even make it to the finals with a POd Miami Heat and a solid Chicago Bulls in the way?
I said it before but I'll say it again, if Pau and Rose are healthy for the playoffs the Bulls are going to stomp out Cleveland and it's going to be awesome.
On an issue like the off-season aftermath of Hurricane LeBron, reading comment after comment that I can get behind here really gives me the warm fuzzies.
@ParisHawk said:> I'm rooting for Joel even though he can't play. He was the most exciting player in years.
Totally agree. With both he and Wiggins, I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful fanship. While I certainly root for Xavier, JuJu, Arthur and other short timers, these two are something special and I really hope we can watch them in the league making noise for years to come.
@globaljaybird said:> Oldest enlisted man EVER to be admitted to SEALS at 32 years old in 1993.
That's ridiculous! Glad he made it back OK.
@jaybate-1.0 Ha, it is now! @nuleafjhawk The whole thing is funny. There's always someone who doesn't get it, maybe the sartalics idea makes sense.
@JayhawkfanToo Funny seeing how UNC is mentioned in the last line of that article - "I admire how KU and UNC will reach the 2,000 level a whole lot more."
@globaljaybird :) I too couldn't even imagine the amount of money they're talking about, I had to do a double take.
@globaljaybird :) :+1:
@justanotherfan I can see it, take away the domination against inferior athletes from Zimmerman's mix tapes, and you're left with a skinny big who makes good decisions, who isn't afraid to put it on the floor and attack the basket, and has a nice balanced shooting stroke.
[
(I have no speakers at present. apologies if the music sucks)
@nuleafjhawk You can download sartalics here β . It's not available on this board, however. I'll get right on that
That's $265M over 10 years, for those who read this and initially thought that KD was being offered the paltry sum of $28 million.
@globaljaybird I see it now! I didn't see the problem earlier (the link was there when I looked) but when I went to the site on my Chromebook, now I see that the link that @nuleafjhawk and I have been talking about is missing. Not sure what is up with that (I'll see if I can find out more) but here's a work around. When you're logged in you can go directly to this link, which is the page the missing link goes to: /user/globaljaybird
@nuleafjhawk :santa: :+1:
you beat me to it :) thanks man.
It's nice to know other people are at a loss comprehending Robin Williams' passing. He's just not the kind of person who dies.
@nuleafjhawk :) no worries.
@nuleafjhawk :santa: :eyes:
@jaybate-1.0 It's from a great book I read with my kids called Frederick by Leo Lionni. All of his books (from the ones we've read) are about celebrating the things we're good at and not shying away from them because they make us different. Frederick is a mouse who doesn't collect food for the winter because he says he's collecting words, since the mice will need them when it's cold and they've run out of things to say.
@jaybate-1.0 This was quite possibly the most beautiful post I have ever read, here or the other place, edit... Actually any place. Thank you.
Several people reported confirmation email issues (thank you guys). I turned the feature off now .I had turned it on to block spammers that were registering on our site (I did a few other things as well that should still help with the problem) but didn't realize that the email was not working correctly. You should be okay now. Please email me at approxinfinity@gmail.com if you have further issues. Thanks.
I posted the story on Stewart here this morning because I feel that it is a groundbreaking story. As the day wore on I thought about why. Why is this important? This is beyond NASCAR, and maybe beyond the grief and questions about intent predicating guilt or innocence. I believe it reaffirms something about the nature of sport, and something that we've always known.
We love sports because they are their own separate contexts. And for that reason, actions that would clearly be punishable in a court of law may be permissable in the court of professional car racing. In a way, this in an affirmation that our sports are liberated from the world that we escape when we sit down to watch them on TV.
In contrast, the ruling of the Ed O'Bannon case can be seen as an acknowledgement of the erosion of the separate context that is the sport of college basketball.
Here is the quote from O'Bannon that strikes home the central point:
"These rules have been in place for a hundred years and there has been no change. Times have changed, the economy has changed, the players themselves have changed, the salaries of the coaches have changed. Everything has changed except for how a player is compensated. And whether [they're paid] while they're in school, or whether it's once their eligibility is up, that part of the game has to change."
The money has made college basketball a professional business for quite some time, but the NCAA, while appearing to be a champion for the purity of the game, was providing its collegiate athletes sanctuary from the almighty dollar by taking all the profits for themselves.
In the real world where basketball is entertainment that drives big profits, this would clearly be an inequity and O'Bannon and collegiate athletes should be compensated for the use of their likeness. But in the separate context that is the sport of college basketball, deferring compensation for their performance on the court may have in some way let the athletes continue to love the game for the sake of a game. That changes in the post-O'Bannon era. We are left to debate as to what extent.

Self speaks about Wiggins expressing his desire to be traded earlier in the summer and how Minnesota should be a good fit.
One interesting note, the ESPN link's title of the article is "tony-stewart-hits-foot-competitor-sprint-car-race-new-york-state", yet the title of the article itself is "On-foot driver hit by Stewart dies". This would indicate that the title of the article was changed to be a passive sentence β to avoid incriminiating Stewart. In addition, the video clip in the article focuses entirely on a NASCAR spokesman saying that Tony Stewart will be available for the Watkin's Glen race today.
I don't know much about car racing, but these are my immediate thoughts:
- These guys should not be walking onto the course, and won't again any time soon.
- If these guys walk out on the course they must believe that they are safe based upon the standard abilities of all of the drivers in the race.
Last night, Tony Stewart hit and killed Kevin Ward Jr as Ward approached Stewart's car on foot. Some witnesses report that the action was deliberate (quotes below). ESPN has been more forgiving, completing omitting any questions of wrong doing.
Here is the SportingNews.com story β
Here are the accounts from the article:
"Tony pinched him into the frontstretch wall, a racing thing," Graves said. "The right rear tire went down, he spun on the exit of (Turn) 2. They threw the caution and everything was toned down. Kevin got out of his car. β¦ He was throwing his arms up all over the place at Tony for most of the corner.
"I know Tony could see him. I know how you can see out of these cars. When Tony got close to him, he hit the throttle. When you hit a throttle on a sprint car, the car sets sideways. It set sideways, the right rear tire hit Kevin, Kevin was sucked underneath and was stuck under it for a second or two and then it threw him about 50 yards."
"Tony Stewart needs to be put in prison for life," Graves said.
βPeople (who could see it better) said the guy got out of his car and was gesturing angrily at Tony Stewart when Tony Stewart came by during the next lap under yellow,β Willis said in a phone interview. βHe approached him and evidently when he was driving by the guy standing on the track gesturing at him, he gunned his engine.
Here is the ESPN article about the incident. β
At 10:30 EST this morning, Greg Zipadelli, SHR vice president of Stewart-Haas racing announced a change of plans hours after saying Sunday is 'business as usual', and says that Stewart will no longer be racing today. β
@JayHawkFanToo takeaway: bet against KU in the Big 12 tournament this year.
@brooksmd glad you're digging it. Good to see you!
@wissoxfan83 Well your city was named after a red stick... I tried to google a picture of it, maybe it was a pretty red stick, but nothing came up...
luuuuuuuuu welcome back!
