Putting things in perspective my friends • Oct 09, 2018 07:13 PM

@jayballer73

I'm sure the entire KU Buckets group will keep you and your family in our prayers. This group may bicker back and forth over some things, but we all care about each other and will stick together and support each other in times of tragedy, or in this case, thankfully, near tragedy. Wishing your DIL and granddaughter speedy recoveries!

Why Kavanaugh? That's the real question for Republicans here. It's not like Kavanaugh is the only conservative judge that could be nominated to the Supreme Court. There are at least two dozen justices out there with the type of background, as well as being very conservative in their rulings, that they could easily take Brett Kavanaugh's place.

The GOP could have asked the President to pull the Kavanaugh nomination the instant the allegations surfaced and confirmed another conservative judge, even without any Democratic votes because the GOP has the majority. Instead, they insist that it has to be Kavanaugh despite the issues that have arisen, and despite the backlash it is causing, and despite his own handling of this.

When Clarence Thomas faced harassment allegations, you did not see him fly off the handle and go on an explosive, angry rant during his confirmation hearings.

Again, I ask simply - Why Kavanaugh? The GOP wants a conservative court. There are other judges that would be just as conservative, and some that would likely be even more conservative than Kavanaugh. If the goal is simply a conservative majority on the court, there are probably 20 other judges out there that could accomplish that goal.

So why Brett Kavanaugh?

@justanotherfan

Trump believes Kavanaugh would provide cover since Kavanaugh has indicated he doesn't believe a sitting president can be held accountable should he be charged with certain acts that may be criminal.

Apparently other potential SCOTUS judicial candidates do not agree with Kavanaugh's position, making Kavanaugh Trump's "golden boy."

The original indictment listed KU as one of the victims although I seriously doubt KU sees itself this way. Recruiting is like the proverbial “making sausages,” you might like the final product but you really don’t want to see how it is done. All programs are aware that top recruits might not be without baggage but I am sure they see it as the cost of doing business and there is always the chance something negative might come out. KU did not play Preston at all and the NCAA cleared Silvio so KU has a pretty strong and defensible case. I will guess that testimony by KU personnel would not help the prosecution case so I seriously doubt anyone from KU will testify and KU will be mentioned only as a potential victim.

Life hits hard sometimes • Oct 01, 2018 09:20 PM

@wissox

I have a close friend who just retired from teaching high school in New Iberia, LA. She worked so hard and got so little recognition, but I know she made a difference in at least some of her students lives. I considered a teaching career years ago, but went a different direction. I think I would have enjoyed it "back in the day" but in today's crazy world I don't think I would be very good at it.

Life hits hard sometimes • Sep 28, 2018 07:34 PM

@wissox

I am so sorry to read about all of these incidents which obviously hit very close to home for you. I will keep you and your wife, as well as the families of the victims, in my prayers. All of this senseless violence is beyond heartbreaking. And,BTW, thank you for your service as a teacher. I was fortunate to have fabulous teachers growing up in the boonies of Western Kansas, and I'm sure your current and former students feel the same way about you.

Thank you to those who have kindly shared their knowledge and tips. I, like perhaps others, am somewhat computer-challenged and being able to learn for others on this board that I so respect and admire, is greatly appreciated. @jayballer73, come back soon, please! We don't want to have to miss ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG!!

Thanks for the smile as I end my grueling day at the office. I rarely shut down the desktop without checking in on Buckets. I look at Buckets on the iPad also, but I'm old and set in my ways and like the desktop best!

TV: Jayhawk Network (ESPN+ streaming, KMCI [Channel 38] in KC area, or Cox Cable elsewhere in Kansas)

Doors open: 4:30 p.m. for students, 5 p.m. for general public

Looks like the Wichita/Hutchinson area should be able to get it on Cox 2022. Fingers crossed:basketball_player_tone3:

I don't know if any of you have the Jayhawk network, but I've been reassured the fb game will be on sat, plus the pre and post show. I know most folks on here could care less. I don't miss the games, still a fan. I listened to that Colorado game where we came back and won while riding a bike at genesis, great workout. Great comeback! So the hawk talk and Beatty shows will be on too. My cox friend said the guide should be updated tmrw. Don't know if that means all the Jayhawk networks. Most of the Vb games are on ESPN plus, so I'm guessing, they will not be on Jayhawk network. Cox friend says ESPN gets first choice. Hope that is helpful. Rock Chalk!

@Crimsonorblue22 Be careful watching games at Genesis. I was watching a KU BB game while on the treadmill some years ago. I got so engrossed in the game and something happened that really excited me. I forgot where I was and what I was doing and I jumped into the air. When I came down on the moving treadmill, I nearly got thrown off! I escaped without injury, but I stay away from Genesis when KU is playing BB.

I think Dixon's building something great in Fort Worth. Also thought Boynton had Ok St playing at a high level for what he had last year. I get the feeling that Lon is over the hill. Prohm seems like he is going in the wrong direction with his own recruits. Weber is fine with X's and O's but a train wreck managing personalities. Drew is a helluva recruiter, whicn makes up for being a X's and O's featherweight.

I think Drew gets good recruits without having to be very good at it. A lot of his players Mamas want their boys at a Christian college. I suspect he has more good high school players who want to come to Baylor than he has room for, so he can take the cream of the crop talent-wise.

@bcjayhawk 2122 or 2022, or 22. Not on 2122 often, unless something else scheduled for 2022. I’m trying to find info!👀

Yes, KU usually was on 2022 even if there was a conflict with a WSU game. WSU usually got bumped to 2122. I switched to Cox a few years ago and have stayed with it notwithstanding how overpriced it is and how often they raise rates, but I've always thought it was worth it to be able to see the blacked-out games. If Cox isn't going to show these games, I may start paying more attention to barrage of Direct TV offers I get from AT&T:smirk:! Cox may be a looser here.

Spectrum Going Under • Jul 02, 2018 05:29 PM

In the Wichita area, we get those 7 games on what used to be referred to as "Cox 22." They are now on either Cox 2021 or 2022 (I think those channel #s are correct). Will Cox not have these games any longer? The article may have addressed this, but I can't access it as I'm not a KC Star subscriber.

Ftr they weren't listed because they already have a number/didn't switch. Note that Charlie Moore switched to Vick's #2.

We haven't heard anything about Vick and his possible return, but if Moore has taken his jersey #, doesn't that tell us something?

@FarmerJayhawk I hope you're right. As someone mentioned earlier, his basketball IQ is near Embiid's and I want to see SDS in a KU uniform for a long as we can keep him. It was unbelievable how quickly he progressed in such a short time.

I seem to recall reading that Brad Underwood, K-State alum, made it well known that he would not even consider coaching at K-State as long as Currie was the AD there. Currie was still there when Underwood left Stephen F. Austin to take the Okie State position. KU fans worry that our travails may have cost us the one-year services of recruit Romeo Langford, but K-State fans not getting a great coach like Underwood and having to live with Liberace thanks to Currie being there came at a much bigger cost. And, speaking of Liberace, Google an episode of the fifty's sit com, "The Real McCoys" and see how much Bruce sounds like Walter Brennen's character, Grampa Amos McCoy.

He is high on my lengthy all-time favorites list. The article says he's looking forward to more family time. I hope he and his family move to Lawrence, he gets hired as an assistant coach, and Bill Self can spend the next 15 years grooming him to take over as KU's head coach when Self retires. It is my understanding he's basically been part of the Thunder's coaching staff for the past year or two. Am I remembering correctly that Nick's dad was a coach?

I'm not as connected to the program as many of you, and I come on this board for the great conversations and insight but this threat seemed a bit harsh in regard to Moore, so I Googled and found this article which presents him in a pretty good light:

@mayjay Sorry about that. You're right - it isn't intuitive unless you live in ICT!!!

Thursday 1PM CST • Mar 12, 2018 07:56 PM

@wissox According to an article in today's Wichita Eagle, there are some 11,000 KU alums in ICT with many more within reasonable driving distance (KC, OKC, etc.).
http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/mens-basketball/article204626464.html ↗

The KU alumni association is doing some cool things outside of the arena - more information on that in the article linked above.

The Shocker fans' level of hatred toward KU is off the charts and, while I'm sure they'll be praying for an early KU out, or casting spells to the same end, I doubt many of them will spring for $200+ tickets. If any of them do, you can count on them routing for the KU opponent and cheering every KU missed shot, turnover, etc.

@Bosthawk Nice read. Good play by Vick and good for Self for giving him props for it. Also nice to see Landon getting some love which he didn't always get during his KU days.

VOTE FOR DEVONTE FOR THE WOODEN AWARD • Mar 02, 2018 06:37 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 read and VOTE!!!

@Barney You might feel differently if you lived in Wichita. A couple of Saturday's ago I watched KU vs OSU in a public venue. It was easy to spot the WSU fans who were there as they were cheering each missed bucket, errant pass, turnover or foul by KU. I believe that if the WSU fans were to have their DNA tested by 23 and me, the majority of them would learn they are related to Iowa State's Mr. Weatherwax or the KSU bunch with their F*** KU signs. But how classy can we expect fans to be if their head coach, reverting to age 4, calls another D1 team names? (No disrespect intended toward those who are age 4!)

@nuleafjhawk, @jayballer73 Two or three weeks ago a local Wichita TV sportscaster was talking about the WSU @ Cincinnati game. He called it "the game of the century." At that time, I think Cincinnati was ranked in the 7 - 9 area with WSU in the 13 - 15 area.
