Maryland president: Would expect shutdown of UNC over academic allegations ↗

Two differnt viewpoints.

Maryland president Wallace Loh says he would expect North Carolina to get the "death penalty" over the academic allegations that have hung over the athletic program since 2010.

"As president, I sit over a number of dormant volcanoes," Loh said during a University of Maryland senate meeting Thursday, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. "One of them is an athletic scandal. It blows up, it blows up the university, its reputation, it blows up the president.

Williams said the length of the investigation in some ways has been a punishment for his program.

Lawson Brothers Coming to KU • Apr 11, 2017 02:39 PM

@Kcmatt7 I don't recall any red shirts playing in the exhibition games before. (I'm not saying it can't be done.) I doubt we get to see them in Kansas until '18, but the Italy trip should be a nice opportunity to see them play in crimson and blue.

@jaybate-1.0 Sorry I can't comment. I don't generally watch basketball games that don't directly involve KU. Life is too busy for me to watch UNC play basketball. Now if KU is playing a meaningless game in Italy I'll have to find a way to watch...

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 01:51 PM

@BShark Dedric is a Sophomore already and KJ is a redshirt freshman currently. I don't know if they will be in Lawrence long enough to matter, but what @mayjay referenced in regards to eligibility is what I was talking about. Potientally 3 years for KJ if he were to be granted a 6th year of eligibility due to the two red shirts; one medical (Fr. year) and one from the transfer. And 2 years for Dedric since he's used two years of eligibility at Memphis.

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 05:22 AM

I believe KJ is a redshirt Fr. with up to 3 years of eligibility remaining if he were to petition the NCAA for a 6th year. I doubt it's an issue, but who knows?

@Lulufulu I meant like an Oregon Duck. Bad joke.

Thoughts on Graham/Svi decision • Apr 10, 2017 02:51 PM

I wish Devonte' could be as consistently as great as Frank was last year. That's the dream. But Frank was amazingly consistent his Jr. year also. I just didn't foresee Frank stepping up his production as much as he did.

Devonte' disappears for games. Devonte's pretty good defense (could be more intense) is almost always on display, but his O goes completely away from time to time. I hope Devonte' is able to tap into whatever it takes to take him to the next level.

Maybe someday KU will have several players buy in hard like Mason did last summer and show out in the same season. It seems like it's always just the one player his sr. year that consistently performs. Jackson and Devonte' were nice last year, but there is another level as Frank proved. And as I believe Devonte' will prove this upcoming season. Who will join him to push Kansas to the title game?

@Crimsonorblue22 I still miss Mario.

Bragg is leaving • Apr 10, 2017 01:56 PM

I wonder if a red-shirt year is what Bragg needs? (It might have worked at KU if he'd been given the option.) It will give him one whole year to get his life straight. It will give him one whole year to focus on school and how to be a self sufficient adult without gameday pressure. Yes he will still practice, but without the pressure of gameday.

Culture change.

On This Day. • Apr 08, 2017 02:44 PM

@ralster Best ball movement I've ever seen under Self. Definitely Bill's most complete team.

If Bill's first team of Roy's players had bought in earlier he could have another ring. That's his second most complete team he's had in my opinion.

The Morri were his best high-low tandem, but that team was flawed in the guard department.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. - Marcellus to Horatio in Shakespeare's Hamlet

At what time does the NCAA become involved and starts looking at the "hire dad and the kid comes along" and "hire failed coach and his recruits come along" issues?

They kind of did. It's now a requirement that if a recruits parent is hired on to the staff it has to be a full assistant job. -no video coordinator, player development nonsense. They take an active recruiters roll and the spot someone who has to coach.

Shady as it may be I don't think you should ban kids parent from working because they raised a recruit.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 07, 2017 02:18 PM

Juiston sounds like a high character kid who has/is overcome a great loss. This is the type of person I find easy to root for regardless of where they go to school. I hope to see him in Crimson and Blue!

I wish more of these HS kids would give KU a chance out of the gate. (Not aimed at Juiston) The amount of transfers and the fact that KU is having to look to the Juco ranks is mildly disturbing. I realize it's the new norm, but I wasn't overly happy when Pierce left after his Jr. year. I miss teams comprised of very talented 4 year players. Bill's system allows for more depth each year they run it.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 07, 2017 02:07 PM

@JayHawkFanToo The degree is nice. The man is better because of his Kansas experience and that is even more important. Jamari was given an opportunity and made the most of it. I'm very proud of him and his accomplishments.

Cole Aldrich: Smartest Guy in the Arena • Apr 07, 2017 02:57 AM

Double dribble?

Why is the contract one sided? Coaches get fired and collect their money. If the coach quits they should have to reimburse what they've received for breach of contract.

Some more Chuckle/Giggles • Apr 05, 2017 12:59 PM

If they're in Wichita I may have to go. I've never made it to a tournament game. I almost drove to San Antonio in '08 on a whim, but sobered up.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 04, 2017 02:22 PM

@BShark He doesn't look anywhere near as long as Devonte' or as tall. So I'm glad to hear that.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 04, 2017 01:50 PM

@BShark He looks about 4'9" and 90# in the video. 6'2" 180?!? No way he's near that size in his highlight clips. If he's 6'2" with a decent wingspan that'd really help on D. Short arms hurt on D.

I'm ready for a more disruptive defense.

Ok question time • Apr 03, 2017 02:37 PM

@jayballer54 I consider myself rich, but I don't have much money. My kids are pure gold (to me).

I always found it amazing when I've gone to Jamaica how happpy most of the people are inspite of making on average $2500 per year. Then again they live in paradise..., but instead of focusing on the negative they completely enjoy what they have.

I try to take that approach to KU basketball, but losses still suck!

Frank Mason III is the Gold Standard • Apr 03, 2017 02:31 PM

@drgnslayr I know the feeling, it's how I felt last season. I had been waiting for several years for that culmination and poof its over. I feel for Frank, but this season was doomed when Dok went down. Masterful job by Self and his players to mask deficiencies all year to the point I still think they should've won it all.

Putting tags on postings • Apr 03, 2017 02:29 AM

@REHawk The tags are not part of every post. It's only when starting a new thread. When you do it gives you the option at the bottom to add tags. Tags are a brief description of the topic. It seems that internet searches key on them, so adding tags gets buckets more hits. Hopefully more hits means more KU friends not more spam bots.

@Big-Clyde52 I absolutely love Roy. Hated his exit. He always made a good impression in person. Bill is a better coach for KU, but I still love Roy.

If it makes you feel any better; KU has bounced UNC from the tournament as often as they have won it. Matchups are key.

I'd feel for Roy if he lost back to back championship games. Ouch!

North Carolina (46) just passed Kansas (45) as the team with the most tournament wins since 2000.

Averaging a Sweet 16 - not too shabby.

Never bad to be a Jayhawk. Hope springs eternal.

Final Four Game Thread • Apr 02, 2017 03:22 PM

UNC vs Gonzaga the game everyone wanted to see or so I'm being told by ESPN. Can't say it makes me want to go to the trouble of searching out the game. KU vs. any team and I'm there; no KU, no interest from me. but I'm not a fan of the NCAA or any team not named Kansas. It's just KU for me. Don't care for the NBA either, so once KU losses it's on to recruiting news.

After Ellis didn't get to go out with a w. I'm not expecting another title ever. I'm not saying they won't win it all. I just don't expect KU to win the annual NCAA crapshoot. One of the top teams will win, but the best team doesn't always win. Kentucky was the best team, but got bounced by Wisconsin a few years ago-it happens to all the top programs at some point. KU vs Arizona in '97 is still the worst loss that KU had in my lifetime. I missed the Texas Southern game by a couple of decades.

The Oregon game is a fading memory.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 02, 2017 02:28 PM

Bagley III has added KU to his list of 6 (cut Oregon). Any chance he ends up in Larryville?

So IF you had to • Apr 02, 2017 02:14 PM

Men (or women) so driven to succeed rarely are willing to retire until forced out by health or other outside factors. Neither Roy nor Bill would be content fishing for more than a couple of days. Their competitive fire burns too intensely to shut down on a dime.

I love coach Williams and always will but it stinks that he probably gets his third NC not with us.

Goes to show how much more difficult it is to win at Kansas than North Carolina. Roy's not become a better coach, but everything else is easier (including classes).

Wow. UNC didn't want to win at the stripe.

Oregon shot horribly, where was that a week ago?

Frank Mason III is the Gold Standard • Apr 02, 2017 03:17 AM

Devonte needs to pick up his game. I had soo much hope for him this year. He was ok, but not what I had hoped for. Josh's production was part of the reason Graham didn't have big numbers, but Graham disappeared way too often.

Lots of room for improvement. Should be exciting.

And now, at best, the second best womens team will win the tournament. No way any team is better than Uconn over the season, just in this one crapshoot of a tournament. I believe that's their seniors second loss in four years. Pretty studly.

Liberal arts degree requirements. It's more difficult than you might think to get one course from 15 different departments. That means you will definitely have to take a few courses you wouldn't have chosen for yourself. It's a pretty broad degree.
