Duke looked like they should been ranked about 15 when KU played ‘em. It was just a sorry showing by the good guys in the first game of the season. It’ll be ok, things will get cleaned up soon. No worries.
@jayballer73 “Words are wind.” Game of Thrones quote of the day. We shall see what actually happens soon.

I'd press KU too after that Duke performance.
Imagine if KU has been playing against a good defense, it would’ve been ugly. With that many unforced turnovers...Kansas completely beat themselves. It’ll be ok, Self teams usually look rough until after the Christmas break.

@dylans Ahem, I'm a little experienced with this. It started with Tony's Dad at UW. Bo came in after the 1 year failure of Brad Soderburg and made sure that low scoring, and winning basketball stayed in Madison. While I understand the sentiment of watching a 90-88 game, I really began to appreciate the virtues of an elite defense frustrating opposing offenses, and grinding it out to another 52-47 affair. It might not work in Lawrence, but I think I have to go with others and say I'd welcome Tony to Madison, er, I mean Lawrence!
I’d welcome him to Madison as well...
I’m with jayballer on this one. Only one team cuts down the nets, but there are potentially 40 games to watch. 40 games of that offense would make me switch to something more exciting to watch like golf or fishing.
Winning is fun, but I hate Bill’s bad ball too. I’d much rather watch him perfect then 4 out or run the high low like the late 2000s. Those teams had defensive chops, but still scored plenty of points. This year may be ugly without a 4 available. 3 good centers on the same team. 🤦♂️
Bennet likely isn’t coming if Bill leaves, so there’s little to no threat of that style of ball ruining my fun, but the fbi sure as hell is trying to foul us up.

Tony is a helluva defensive coach.
How’d that game finish? Looks like a great first half ass Whoopin
KU should’ve won by 20. They gave it away. I’m not scared of Duke in the tourney.
Oh yeah more importantly.... IT’S GAMEDAY!!!!

@wrwlumpy I forgot what a big game Newman had in that regional final. Well, I forgot we had a guy named Newman, TBH.
Wonder what happened to him? Should’ve stayed in school another year imho, but maybe he’s balling out overseas? 🤷♂️

@KirkIsMyHinrich Not something to get your nose out of joint. Vegas is trying to stimulate equal betting on both teams. ESPN is trying to stimulate interest in the telecast, so making Duke the favorite likely gives Duke fans reason to watch. And with the 5 stars vs 4 stars battle, it is not unreasonable.
So you’re saying Duke fans are fair weather fans...unwilling to watch unless they are the favorite. Meanwhile KU fans carry a chip - flyover state, no respect, damn right we’re watching. 😝
@Texas-Hawk-10 I realize you are a contrarian, so I don’t expect you to ever agree. While I sure as hell wouldn’t put a penny on KU, Baylor may very well start looking ahead to OU. Not a single team on the schedule cares to play KU as much in football as KSU period
Garrett at point 🤔 Tyshawn with a poor shot and less athleticism, but much better decision making abilities. You’d need shooters around him. Does Brannen still have a year of eligibility left? Lol
Cats in the cradle and all. I’m willing to bet those that are overly critical will regret not enjoying Self’s tenure more in hindsight.
On the bright side KSU is likely the only team to take the Kansas game seriously. Hopefully this is the last beat down of the year.
Darren Hancock was a nice Juco player as well. Hopefully this kid is in that Little, Hancock vein and not the Appleton, every other direct from juco player. Looks like Foster has a nice frame if nothing else.
If I lived in an area where it’s normally hard to see KU play I could see the value in ESPN+ as a supplement to the regularly aired game. As a stand alone service it’s not so great, but it is nationally available. I just live in-state and until recently it was real easy to see every single KU game, so this having to purchase ESPN+ in addition to searching out the other games over the air is an additional hassle. The way I’d position it is as a simultaneous broadcast with different announcers and more pre and post game stuff to differentiate the product drawing people in. No by holding 1/4 of the schedule hostage and forcing people over. Hell I’d probably like ESPN+ if I had a choice in the matter.

@approxinfinity happy for you. This Nats team reminds me a little of the 2014 and 15 Royals. Just make the simple plays against a team that has spent 2 times as much on players. Definitely one of the oddest WS in memory. Has the road team won every game before?
No

Congrats @approxinfinity! Magical time of year. You win a WS and now after a few days, the Jayhawks play! And when the Jayhawks win it all in April, baseball will be starting again!
@bskeet I think you're right. Hintz blew that game. I even think he hurt Greinke's fragile psyche by having Cole up throwing even though Zach had only given up 1 hit.
Umm the Jayhawks play tonight. Don’t wait any longer than necessary!
Ugg. The main issue as I see it is politics and sports don’t mix. You should be looking for a compromise that helps both sides in politics. In sports you make the other side bend to your will. In politics you should reach across the isle and find a middle ground that is mutually beneficial. In sports you should step on their throat when they’re down. Unfortunately The current political climate is more like a sporting event - gotta make a big spectacle, won’t compromise, no tolerance, no progress. And we all suffer because we want our team to win instead of putting what’s best for the country first.
“So far off to a bad start.” He says in his best Jack Black voice.
We shall see. So far it’s the way they’re trying to replace the 13 million lost viewers over the last 6 years. Hope they can replace the revenue without bending us Hawk fans over. How many Duke games are held hostage on ESPN+? Is it 1/4 of their season as well? Is it a good thing for National exposure or is it just drain on the fans (our) wallets?

I don't know how Schneider still has his job. They just lost to div 2 somebody.
Yikes
Looks like you get one more game @approxinfinity
Lol. They could all be paid the same - next to nothing if the basketball and football programs didn’t generate revenue to carry the dead weight of what amounts to really expensive gym class for only a handful of students.
@approxinfinity I enjoy the heck out of Halloween and it’s rubbed off on my kids. They love all the spooky stuff. Last year my then 3 year old boy was at Walmart with his mother looking at Halloween costumes - she was trying to get him to agree to a Woody from toy story outfit, but he wouldn’t have it and kept picking up a bloody pumpkin head specter costume. Some older lady walked down the isle and started giving my wife a lecture on parenting - you’re going to give him nightmares letting him play with that scary stuff - When my 3 year old turns to her waves his fingers in at her and says “oooooh spoooooky!” Sarcastic sucker. I’ve got my hands full, but he sure makes me chuckle.
Worst Halloween of my childhood it snowed 12” on the 31st. Cancelled trick or treating until the following weekend. Boo
Blue counties, yeah that’s how I determine where the educated upstanding people live. No decent people in the red counties, just a bunch of backwards hicks that cling to their guns and Jesus...
I’m one of the millions of people to get rid of the exorbitantly priced cable in favor of over the air broadcasts and internet tv. I’m interested to see what happens as the hundreds of millions of dollars that were being spent on cable disappears. Will sports contracts start to go backwards? Will the money be there to sustain these leagues without new revenue sources like gambling? ESPN has laid off numerous employees the last couple years and is ending its magazine this year as well (gonna miss the body issue). Change is coming and it appears to have less money for sports under the current construct.
It helps Missouri more than KU, but it does help KU. I hate MU, but the only reason not to play them is spite...I’m ok with that too though. The games are scheduled I’m just going to enjoy them for what they are.
I’m disappointed. My distant relations in NE KS that were MU fans were beginning to watch KU for lack of options and the MU garb was disappearing. Damn, it’s back. Might as well schedule WSU as long as the money grab is in.

@crimsonorblue22 Memphis grizzlies.
First decade in 100 years the Yankees won’t win a series title.
Edit - first decade in 100 years the Yankees didn’t appear in a World Series either.
So why did Withey, Charlie Moore, Dedrick Lawson, KJ Lawson, every KU transfer in ever have to sit? The NCAA is a big freaking joke. No consistency, I don’t care what the rule is just enforce it evenly.
Communistic thoughts abound. Redistribution of wealth and power to those who make the most noise, but haven’t earned it is becoming the norm. I hate the current sports and political climate. I’m out guys see you when the games start, maybe.
Maybe you should talk to the coach first if this is your plan. Something smells in Denmark.
It’s an interesting idea, but if my team splits dates and is “home” less than 80% of the normal home games I’d loss allegiance. However, if it meant as team I formerly didn’t care about was suddenly playing close by, I’d become a part time fan.
No way a guy named Thor is afraid of a Gethro!
Over ranked? He was #109 I believe with a little over 300 starting spots in Power 5 schools.
Boo. Good to know where you stand early on though.
McBride sounds like a shorter, less athletic version of Vick (I don’t know about between the ears, but both left KU pointing to a major neurological defect).

@JAYHAWKFAN214 I work at a school with his AAU coach. He told me about the offer today. I'll have to get to work on this one!
Don’t get caught, booster. 😝
There is a federal bill being proposed along the same lines. It is what it is.
@approxinfinity likely just because the new rule allows it and KU is still bad. I’m curious if Houston’s QB will be the next transfer Heisman hopeful at Oklahoma.

You know what's the great thing about this NCAA investigation crap? It keeps us occupied to the point that we aren't talking about the 82-3 pasting that's coming this weekend.
I miss sports as a distraction from things that actually matter. This involving politics into sports is ruining it for me. I wouldn’t even watch football if it weren’t for Mahomes. I really hope LeBron and his ilk don’t ruin college basketball for me as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if I worked as a college intern on a project that made a company billions I’d still be paid under our internship arrangement even if I made the key breakthrough. I’d just be compensated down the road with sweet job offers! 🤔
Say you were an intern for NASA and got them to the moon. Say that information was leaked publicly, and you became famous in your hometown. Just a Kansas boy that got us to the moon. The local diner offers you $1,000 to come shake hands and launch the new "Dylans Moon Pie" recently added to the menu.
NASA wouldn't be preventing you from doing this.
They could depending upon the deal you agreed too. And I would be more scared of NASA (likely a defense contract somewhere along the line) than the NCAA.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but if I worked as a college intern on a project that made a company billions I’d still be paid under our internship arrangement even if I made the key breakthrough. I’d just be compensated down the road with sweet job offers! 🤔
ESPN must be paying a bunch to get 10 of the KU b-ball games as an exclusive broadcast on ESPN+. They really want ESPN+ to work so they can skip the big cable/satellite companies and just get straight into our wallets. I wish it was just another platform instead of the forced platform.
By that definition we are all special and unique like a snowflake. It also makes us all the same and completely interchangeable.
If none of the former KU players came to Kansas, I’d remember those who did in their place. The coaches make the programs not the players.

@dylans I'm recruiting Bucketeers to attain to duel fanship!
I believe Stugotz said,”Wisconsin exists to be 4th in the poll and win nothing!”
I’ve got enough heartache. KU wins one every 20 years, the Royals every 40, the Chiefs every 50. That’s a lot of waiting already.
