@Bosthawk Interesting. Good god man, could you imagine if we were able to have Silvio for 4 years?

That would be cool, but we’ll see if he sticks around after getting exposure next season. There may be too much pressure to go pro. Damn nba ruining the college game poaching players on potential.

2018-2019 team autographed basketballs are still available.

Personally I’ve run out of room and am prioritizing final four years and teams with special players like ā€˜14. Love me some Embiid.

A school sanctioned autograph ball they do every year since the late 90s. I suppose they profit around $75-100 per ball x1-2k. The balls likely pay for a scholarship or two.

@jayballer73 I’ve seen enough damage from big rains recently. An area I check fields in received 12ā€ in 45 minutes. There is now a 2 mile x (1/4 to 1/2) mile wide lake in what used to be a pasture/ trees and a couple fields. It’s truly incredible.

@HighEliteMajor You can enter and withdraw from the draft twice, but you can still get drafted after withdrawing the second time and lose your college eligibility. It’s weird.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 22, 2019 12:49 PM

@BShark or had an option... start whom last year over Grimes? Garrett? Moore? KJ? Just the least bad option and better for future recruiting. How many times did we here about Kelly O. sitting on the bench early and just needing playing time to develop? Some prospects just don’t pan out the way you’d hoped. Grimes as a Jr would be nice, as a OAD not so nice.

@Kcmatt7 yeah, George needed to get some. Well worth the read though. Also no way I can understand a chick wanting the Kingslayer after reading the first book. Unredeemable.

Game of Thrones • May 21, 2019 01:54 PM

Spoiler alert - in the books Caitlyn Stark gets brought back to life. The mountain dies in the fight with the viper. Jon Snow is left gurgling in his own blood (but he’ll likely be brought back). Cersi is taken down a bit harder, but the end of the sparrows was correct (and welcomed). I’m not sure why they picked such a homely girl to be Daenerys, she’s supposed to be drop dead gorgeous with violet eyes.

It’s just different. Both are good, but imagination is better than what you can put on screen.

Game of Thrones • May 21, 2019 01:19 PM

@BeddieKU23 They didn’t have the books to follow and it showed. The HBO writers pale in comparison to George R R Martin. Too bad, but they started changing things early on.

Game of Thrones • May 20, 2019 04:13 PM

@BeddieKU23 I haven’t watched the final season yet, but you could really tell when they got ahead of the books. The good guys started winning and the plot became predictable. I still enjoy the heck out of the series, but the later seasons become more ā€œHollywood happyā€ than the books are. Hopefully Martin finished up the series before he runs out of time. He started the series in the 90s for goodness sake!

One of my favorite tv shows also.

@approxinfinity Since Shaq, not Shaq’s equal though. I mean physically imposing like Shaq. No one can body him up. He’s not nearly as skilled as Shaq. He’s not a game changer like AD. He’s not fundamentally sound like Kaminski. He’s just freakin huge and you can’t do a damn thing about it other than foul him.

Ok, we can agree on that. He's huge and can dunk with the authority of Shaq. His FG% is amazing.

All I was really getting at. You don’t get a Sr that isn’t flawed.

More importantly is how bad KU sucked hind tit without him last year. It’s like watching a team without LeBron or Aaron Rodgers. That’s when you see how good they are.

That part I disagree with. The team was flawed. He was absolutely critical to the team. But the team was Swiss cheese. It's not like we were blowing people out at the beginning of the season. They were all very close games. Like LeBron or Rodgers, the team was constructed with a healthy Doke in mind. You can't tell me that the Cavs or the Packers wouldn't win games without LeBron or Rodgers if they were never on the team in the first place.

I’d re-think that hill - The Cavs have been horrid for decades. McCarthy and the GM are responsible for the best QB in football only getting one championship in his career. They are both terrible teams without the best player in their respective sport. (The Packers were just bad in the McCarthy era) I’m recalling the Cavs having 3 #1 picks in a row -Kyrie, Bennett, Wiggins and they would’ve had more before that, but they selected LeBron #1.

Add Dok in place of Landen Lucas and KU cuts down the nets in March on a couple of those teams. He’d have been a real nice compliment to Perry. Or on the 4 out crew.

Dok is amazing I hope we all get to see 40 games of him next year to let it soak in.

I do think Doke is unique, enjoyable to watch, a dedicated Jayhawk, and easy to root for. But I don't want the team constructed around him. He'll go down and it will be curtains.

If it’s constructed around him it’s due to recruiting missed and the season was/is doomed from the start. He has to be the focal point on the block and he must get his touches. They’re worth 1.6pts per shot. But Dotson or Grimes or RJ or Ochai needs to open things up from the perimeter. You can’t win it all being one dimensional.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 06:13 PM

Embiid is a generational talent. I hope he can stay healthy. Too bad he didn’t come along 20 years earlier(for selfish reasons). Bigs dominated then and stayed in college more than 1 year... what could’ve been.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 03:10 PM

@approxinfinity I’d be mildly surprised if Dok plays in the NBA. I’d be shocked if he plays major minutes in the NBA. He can’t shoot or move laterally well enough. That won’t stop him from dominating college Tebow style though.

Screen grab of the little ā€˜nader from down the road. It was about 25 miles from home in that pic. I prefer daytime tornados, it’s flat and you can see them coming for miles.

A few years back a large tornado sat in a 500 yard spot for about 30 minutes 4 miles NW of town. It was nerve wracking to watch as I worked south of town. It never moved, but if it had it could’ve wiped town clean in a moment. The problem was it sat there for so long on the ground that everyone went back outside to see what was going on, if it had moved they all would’ve been in trouble.

Hypothetical For Next Season • May 19, 2019 02:43 PM

Grimes complaints ring hollow. He had plenty of opportunity. He wasn’t the pony guard, because Dotson was the better option. If that’s the case, why would he be a better nba point guard than college? Delusional kiddo. Hope he gets his head on straight, he has a ton of work ahead of him.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 02:33 PM

@approxinfinity Dok didn’t play much against Wofford. It was just interesting to hear their coach say how much time they spent game planning for the big guy. (And then complaining KU played a different game when he went down)

Dok is the single most important player on this roster regardless of whomever Bill signs. If he’d play better D and rebound with authority he would be the most dominate post player since Shaq. No one in college is strong enough to man him up.

Dok is a game changer, but he is but one piece of an extremely flawed roster at this point.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 01:02 PM

@approxinfinity Do you remember all the coaches the first 9 games saying you have to game plan for the big guy? And what a load he was? (I think it was the Wafford coach who was most honest) Dok is a game changer. Unfortunately his free throws will keep him from being a cheat code. Seriously if he could make free throws there would be no reason for anyone else to shoot next year. -you have to shoot 53% from three to match his 80% 2 point dunking.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 12:45 PM

@approxinfinity IDK KU was really good with Dok and really average without him last season. Dedrick is the kind of big I don’t want. Hollow stat stuffer you can’t rely on to get his own. Good luck stopping a Dok dunk.

@Hawk8086 Yeah, by the time he’s a junior he should be half way decent.

FUNDAMENTALS VS ATHLETICISM • May 18, 2019 12:33 PM

@drgnslayr The three ball is ruining basketball. It’s becoming boring af like baseball - strikeout, strikeout, homerun, strikeout. I miss watching a dominant pick and roll team. I miss 7ftrs dominating the paint and daring guards to attacking the rim with footers patrolling down low. Now they just step back, and again then shoot a three. Boring. It’s removed too much strategy and made it mostly about who can shoot better from three on a given night. Yes ball movement helps, but it usually just results in a corner three not the lob dunk I want to see!!!

@wissox fwiw all the media pundits thought and reported as if Grimes was gone. All of them. This is a complete change of heart (speculation alert) likely based upon poor feedback at the combine. ie he’s , not that great of a shot, and fat.

DeSousa Tracker • May 17, 2019 12:47 PM

When Silvio made his ultimatum it let the NCAA off the hook. Do nothing and he goes away. There likely needs to be a lawsuit to make them pay attention. The flip side is maybe they have ruled against Silvio, but are granting KU/Silvio more time to plead their case. It doesn’t look good for Silvio at this time imho.

FUNDAMENTALS VS ATHLETICISM • May 17, 2019 02:44 AM

@drgnslayr KD likes to be called 6’9ā€ to avoid the stigmas associated with being 7ft. ie he should play in the post or be a banger.

NCAA explores compensation for names, likeness • May 16, 2019 07:13 PM

@Kcmatt7 I didn’t get one last year, but there are official KU sanctioned autograph men’s (and women’s) basketballs you can buy. I’m not sure where you get them online (used to be kustore.com; it’s changed), but you could pick them up at the allen field house gift shop.

Dam Josh , what are you doing man • May 16, 2019 12:59 PM

@approxinfinity third behind McLemore for me. Ben and Embiid didn’t want to leave either, so that’s another feather in their cap.

The thing that probably rubbed me the worst was Josh saying he could’ve been better but Bill played him out of position all year. Really putting Jackson at the 4 hid his flaws as it turns out.

NCAA explores compensation for names, likeness • May 16, 2019 12:53 PM

@HighEliteMajor I’m pretty sure it’s not selling your likeness if you’re not compensated. The students didn’t feel compensated enough with the scholarship and wanted cash. Now they don’t get the cool bonus of being in a video game. Too bad, we all lost there.

OAD junk • May 16, 2019 12:25 PM

@Woodrow Yeah, but if the NBA did away with the rule requiring they go to college why would there be kids hellbent on being OAD? The rule will be abolished soon. RJ Barrett (#1 ranked HS kid) and Grimes (#1 in his own mind) go pro straight out of HS.
