Having a true center is still very important to both college and NBA teams. I'd say that big men will always be part of the game but the PF position is dyeing especially in the NBA. They want the Draymond Green type that stretches the defense out to the 3 point line.
The scrubs beat their ass without Billy. The trouble with paying for 5 or 6 elite freshman is they don't care most the time.
@Kubie he played well last night. It must be tough for him and Fox coming from colleges that win left and right to the black hole know as the kings.
Bill Self confirmed that 6’7 football player Sosinski did practice with the team one day this week and will explore walking on if things go well. I’m sure with De Sousa looking like he has a good chance of playing that this puts the final nail in Preston’s coffin. You would need both guys if Self thought he was gonna play.
After we have pretty much destroyed anyone in from us for most of this year, even counting the games in Italy, I’m a little cautious as we proceed. We had a bad half vs FHSU and didn’t put UK away when we should’ve but they never lead bye more than a bucket and we were icey cold shooting. Saturday’s game could mirror that one with Syracuse playing their text book zone and having size that we lack. They currently sit 6-0 just like us and have not played as well against mostly the same teams from the HoopHall Classic. Then we face a young but decently talented Washington team that is 4-2. After that is the Arizona State game which will be a battle. They have quietly moved up to #20 in the land with wins over KSU and they hammered a top 20 Xavier team that whipped up on Baylor tonight. Nebraska doesn’t look good and fits in with the rest of the B10 now but you know that place will be rocking at the chance to upset us. I think we can win all of these games. I just hope after these beat downs that our heads are where they need to be this. Obviously it’s tough not to be excited with all of our players not available yet. Let’s just go one at time gentlemen, let’s go!
I told everyone he would go nuts for 30 lol was just a matter of time. How about his line tonight 35 points (14-19; 5-8) 5 rebounds and 5 assists with 0 turnovers. Dude had to be like +50 while on the floor.
@wissox we have to get you home friend.
@JayHawkFanToo @justanotherfan I would be shocked to see Trob or Cliff on a NBA from here on out, as stated everyone wants a stretch 4 or a true 7 footer center down low. No room for guys that can’t handle the ball and hit outside shots the power forward is pretty much dead in the NBA and our 4 guard line up from a high low guru in Self is proof it’s dyeing in college.
If Billy isn’t able to go, which at this point seems to be the case we will without question need another big. We have already seen a 6’5 walk on forced to play at the 5, but that doesn’t work against a decent team. Mitch has looked good the last few games but asking him to stay outta foul trouble against good bigs will be a very tall order.
It's a good series as Wright has made Nova a consistent top 20 team. We played there with the 04-05 head scratching team that started out ranked #1, 14-0 and 20-1 before the wheels fell off (sorry, still one of the worst feelings after that year). But i don't remember them making a return trip.

Saw this today and thought it was pretty neat. I'd like to give a shout out to women's coach Brandon Schneider who in his 3rd season has lead the lady hawks to a 6-0 start. Kansas is one of seven schools to have both men and women teams unbeaten to date. They haven't played the toughest of schedules but the progress is easily seen and they have a strong recruiting class for next year. Schneider went 6-25 (0-18) and 8-22 (2-16) in his first to years and a good chunk of folks questioned another hire made by Zenger but I like him and think things are headed in the right direction.
@approxinfinity I agree, I think it's kinda funny and sad at the same. IMO the rule book needs changed all the way down the line to the way AAU teams operate.

Kansas will play Fizzou to start the NCAAs.
@Texas-Hawk-10 We should be set up very well for next year, returning a high number of guys on the two deep. It won't matter and I could see Beaty out after a week 1 loss to Nicholls State.
@DoubleDD LLs minutes with a healthy Doke go from 25 mpg to about 10 a year ago. The same is said for Mitch with a eligible Billy, prob only gets 8 or 10 a night.
@HighEliteMajor Couldn't agree more, winning is all that matters unfortunately. Mangino was a perfectionist and a an asshole from my sources that played for him but they all said their HS coach was tougher to deal with. He too was highly successful. At least we ain't Baylor and Penn State with sickening issues they've had. I think we saw the the same coach is mean crap with Frank Martin at KSU. It was fine when they made an elite 8 but terrible when they were preseason top 5 only to squeak into the NCAAs. They basically forced out the best they've had in the last 30 years because according to my KSU guys he was too hard on Will Spradling.
I missed it too 😣😣😣
Seen OU went down to Arkansas 92-83 Young had 28. He almost has been a one man band early for them.
@HawkChamp It looks that way but often times even the early polls reflect what the most think the team will be later it the year. Kinda like UK, they ain't playing like a top 10 team early but easily could be in march.
WKU up on #18 Purdue bye 11 at the half with Coleby getting 2 quick fouls and a non factor. Purdue was upset by Tennessee yesterday.
I also wonder what would've happen if Bill Young would've stay. He's honestly not done too well since leaving after the orange bowl but man the last 3 or 4 defenses he had here were solid and a couple of those years flat out great.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I'll agree to disagree with you buddy. One of the recruits that backed out was a 4 star QB from Tennessee, Kale Pick was never given a fair shot at QB. He was a duel threat QB that ran the ball well in 2009 as a back up that Gill for some odd reason never let run. Gill and Chuck Long's offensive plan vs NDSU cost us the game with run up the middle twice and then pass. Pick, was benched at the half of that game after mustering 3 points but we had a missed FG and a tipped ball that lead to a pick in the end zone. Pick actually moved the ball better than Webb, who in the second half got 0 points. Webb speaking statically is arguably the best QB since Ressing but who knows how Pick could've faired if given more time after all benching a first year starter at the half baring 3 or 4 turnovers just seems stupid to most folks.
Ya it really sucks I tell ya, me and a buddy had this conversation the other day. Growing up in the 90s here in central kansas on a map dot we used to get most the games with bunny ears. Jayhawk TV network used to on WB 33 which is now the CW, they covered a hand full of these early season games most years (later in the early 00s it switched to NBC/KSN). CBS local used to always cover the Mizzou and Texas games before the tournament it seemed like. Then the Big 12 network from ESPN plus was on FOX here local and good for several games. Seemed like I could watch 15 or games without even having cable. Now for some stupid reason the local teams seldom even play on CBS in tournament like they always used to.
@Texas-Hawk-10 he's not gonna come back of course but I'm bet he would've averaged 5 or 6 wins in the time span he was gone. I bet he wins 5 games in Gills first year, one other thing to consider is we had a solid recruiting class that fell apart when he resigned.
We are now #1 in BPI
Funny I was just talking about how odd it was we haven't been in the NIT since Roy was here
Atleast he kept his shirt on! lol I think he did some mind expanding drugs at UCLA in the 70s.
@Texas-Hawk-10 @wissox I'd take Mangino over any of fools we've hired since him, hell Terry Allen was better . Mangino was mediocre for sure but he still one of the best coaches we've ever had.
WSU just out hustles big name schools, they get 90% of the loose balls, they rebound well. That's why there a match up nightmare. Nothing to do with talent, they just work every second, I think the Cal first half was the only WSU game I've watched in recent years where they didn't out scrap the other team.
Coleby ended up finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 8 point loss to Nova. Yes I wish he'd had stayed but I don't blame him for wanting to be a starter/big dog somewhere. Obviously now with Billy's status looking murky at best and the grad transfer that jumped ship he probably would be getting decent minutes here. Mitch is averaging just over 13 minutes a game bet Coleby would be averaging more.
Here's a link to the early season tournaments for everyone, some have already been completed.

@HawkChamp I enjoy when we play in these early season tournaments. This years hoop hall invitational is kinda a joke with 3 campus games vs nobody's and playing Syracuse in Florida. I've told my wife when we retire we are gonna go to the Maui tournament one year when KU is in it, if it's still around. Kinda odd that we haven't played in the NIT since Roy was here. Idk if that's Selfs deal or the NIT favoring Nike schools.
What does everyone think of the PK80 Nike tournament? I think it's a little much this early in the season.
Goodness, how was WSU down by 18 to Cal? They are really bad.
You know I used to think Lavar was an idiot. But now I think he's just playing his game trying to gain as much fame for as long as he can trying to get his brand going. I saw a guy in Wichita wearing one of those shirts the other day. Definitely not my style with his loud mouth but the younger generation seems to like it. It's kinda like Miley Cyrus doing all the tweaking and short hair crazy stuff, she blew up after that.
@KUSTEVE Rap battle winner lol, that's the sad thing the way I understand it is that he isn't poor and his mom is fairly well off. If anyone needed a car it probably wasn't him.
Baylor comes out and battles back for the W. I'm fairly impressed with bears, they got down 11 early in the second half and put the clamps on Creighton defensively, was a fun game watch.
@HawkChamp Forsure, this team is averaging 13 made 3s a game so far this year. I would bet they finish the year in the 12-14 range with how many we shoot and playing 4 shooters most of the time.
@Crimsonorblue22 That's what I read on the Facebook earlier, which doesn't mean it's even remotely true. You'd think if Adidas really did get it for him niether party could possibly be that stupid but you never know.
How about DTGs line tonight 17 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals to go with a single turnover. Still not shooting the ball as well as he is capable, went 6/16 but I have a feeling he drops 30 here soon once he gets the ball to go in. Averaging 11.5 points, 9.7 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals so far this year. Graham won't average Franks points but I bet he get more in the other categories which can be just as big.
I heard that the car had Adidas stickers all over it, if that's true I bet he is done.
Hitting 19 threes had a lot to with why we looked so good, I highly doubt we'll do that again this season and I bet just about every team that hits that many 3s wins.
@Crimsonorblue22 Manzel did worse and Winston had a whole list of issues.
In all honesty I'd be shocked if De Sousa isn't cleared at this point because I bet Self would've done something else by now like add Sosinski. I think De Sousa is already bigger, stronger and faster than Lightfoot but has a ton to learn about the game.
@jaybate-1-0 Could you imagine being Sosinski if Self asked? That would be like being traded from the Browns to the Patriots. Dude probably be in the gym in a heart beat.
Baylor looks rattled against Creighton as they trail by 9 at the half. That Hall of Fame Classic is loaded this year with UCLA, Baylor, Wisconsin and Creighton. I tell ya Creighton looks scary good, their defense is the best I've seen so far this year.
Tough break for the kid and I feel bad for him. Those slavers probably did something wrong lol @elpoyo may never post again.
Grimes looks a lot like Trae Young did to me. Who is averaging 18 and 11 (assists) for OU in this early season. Think of all the ball handlers next year we will have. Garrett isn't as much as a scorer as the other 2 but fills the stat sheet. Dotson and Grimes are probably end up being more of a SG rather than a PG but having 2 or 3 that can bring the ball up the floor will be good. I personally think Garrett starts PG next year.
He has been mentioned by the few folks that can stomach football like @Texas-Hawk-10. Also Keegan did write about him earlier this year, I personally think that is our only option if De Sousa isn't cleared and even then what would it hurt to have another big body?? I'm shocked Self hasn't made a move on this yet but he could be waiting outta respect for Beaty even tho the kid never plays and the season had no chance of being anything after week 2.
Honestly I think the whole Mayfield deal has gotten its five minutes of fame and everyone should let it go. Players talk trash all game every game. That being said it was stupid and Beaty looks like a fool for supporting it after it happened, then 3 days later coming down on them. I'm just over it and happy we only got one more beat down to go.
