KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:42 PM

X having a field day on how switching with our bigs leads to wide open dunks and layups. Not sure how at this point Bill and staff can’t see it at this point. Just switch guards, not that hard.

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:39 PM

I think Hunt played decent just missed some shots he has to make. Hard to complain with 8 and 6 in a half. I thought Juan arguably played his best half of the season. Really just need to stay away for Diggy and Passmore if they are just gonna chuck up 3s every time they touch it. Storr wasn’t great but was aggressive at least

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:33 PM

I feel like we are letting a bad team hang around with some really interesting line ups.

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:27 PM

Diggy and Passmore very bad on both ends

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:21 PM

Man it’s amazing how we can rebound if we go after the ball. I could get used to this

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:14 PM

Hunt has to make some of those shots here. Still don’t like switching with bigs wide open layups galore just like ISU game

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 06:03 PM

Good effort by AJ

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 05:56 PM

Great energy to start, flory maybe better than KJ by the end of conference season if he isn’t already

KState game thread • Jan 18, 2025 05:52 PM

Let’s run these fools right out of the gym

Lance is COOKING • Jan 17, 2025 09:29 PM

I’d rather watch the football at this point and see what crazy play or rule kills in the last two minutes of a game. I’ll take that over the Lazies which my new nickname for the basketball team. They don’t seem to want play and put forth minimal effort. If we don’t spank KSU tomorrow I’m done with these over compensated losers.

KJ Adams • Jan 17, 2025 08:58 PM

I hate this for KJ would never wish him any harm. He drives me nuts a lot of the time but I have a ton of respect for him as a young man. I think if we had a coach with clear thinking he would be an absolute fan favorite like Lightfoot was hitting a few shots and getting a few blocks off the bench. Get better KJ!

My crisis of faith in Bill • Jan 17, 2025 08:55 PM

Ya I have zero faith in Bill Self at this point in time.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 17, 2025 08:54 PM

Hearing KJ is for sure gonna be out tomorrow

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 17, 2025 02:49 PM

@drgnslayr it tough to score points when 3 starters don’t look to score and the defense doesn’t have to respect them in the slightest. You only have to guard Zeke and Hunt. Long story short it’s just too easy for opposing teams to hold us below 70 most nights.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 11:53 PM

@approxinfinity Hunter doesn’t seem to have a spec of athletic ability at this point.

Kind of harsh but true • Jan 16, 2025 11:24 PM

As I said on the game thread, over 32% of Selfs blow out loses have happened the last 3 years. I’ve always said Self is the best regular season coach in history but he isn’t anymore. We are tired of not winning the B12 and going home the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. It’s 2025 and we have one year since 2019 that we have played past the second round. Winning the conference was at least a silver lining in some of those years. I guarantee you right this second we don’t win this conference. Most legendary ball coaches hit the point where they can’t get thru to players and the philosophy they use don’t work anymore. It happened to Bob Knight and Dean Smith two greats in the sport. In short thanks Bill Self but please retire at years end. We don’t need Ted Owens 2.0

I think people are overcomplicating what's going on here. An offense with Harris and Adams each playing 30 minutes a game is never going to be better than mediocre because of how limited they are offensively. It's exacerbated by Shak Moore (and I like him) not being a good shooter and David Coit being on a legendary cold streak shooting the ball.

Griffen needs to be playing 30+ minutes (currently only averaging 18), and Storr needs more minutes too (also averaging 18). I realize Storr has sucked this year, but he's a career 35% 3pt shooter and is probably our best hope of getting to the FT line more often if he can manage to get his act together.

Defense has been pretty good for the most part, but Hunter has the mobility of a 40-year-old man and good teams like Iowa St that force Hunter to defend PnRs, rotate, and recover are going to get a lot of open looks/layups.

Basically I think Zeke and Rylan need to be leading the team in minutes, KJ's minutes need to go down significantly, and Juan's minutes need to go down slightly. And if Coit continues to play like this I'd rather see Passmore get minutes.

Been saying this for over 2 years now on Juan and KJs minutes

Wow! How low can you go? Ask some of the players what KU means to Juan, CB, Och, Wilson, Big Dave, Kevin, KJ, ask last yrs team or Gurley and Hanni. These players and guys know a hell of a lot more than you do!

You are missing the point young lady. No one is saying these guys don’t care about KU. Maybe Storr doesn’t care about anything or Hunt didn’t last night. A bit of advise that I got from a successful college coach “My job is to find someone better than my current players. The players job is to push themselves to the level that I can’t do my job”. Coaches have to put their team in the best position win games regardless of whom you like better or have had on your roster longer.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 06:45 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk yes to the point where people on X are asking what pictures they have of Self he doesn’t want to come out. The same radio show was saying Juan maybe the worst 4 year starter 5th year senior in NCAA history and it’s hard to argue at this point.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 06:08 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I meant to say 2015 in terms of the high low garbage not working. Slice it up any way you want to its pretty damn evident it isn’t working and hasn’t since 2011-12. Bill Self this point has lost his damn mind IMO.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 06:06 PM

ESPN radio just said Self has lost by 12 or more points 40 times in his KU career, 13 of those have came in the last 3 years to date. Thats over 32% of blowouts in a very short time frame for Kansas basketball. We all ain’t used to that for sure

@Zabudda said in Looking back at Hilton:

Hunter made two decisions to take it easy and not over exert himself and ISU hustled and got possession. One was followed by an ISU three dagger. They played us tougher than we could handle but in spite of our bad passing we still got good looks but couldn't convert. It looks like Juan, Zeke and a top five recruiting first year class of three and four stars who we thought and they thought were likely one and done guys. Our basic offense just looks like a road to nowhere. I go into games thinking it will finally click and the pent up talent will explode. I haven't given up but hurry up before I give out. Of course it is hard to win when Cyclone Jones who shoots with one butt cheek facing the basket is making 30 footers.

I posted earlier this season, every year we have ran 4 guards since 2010 we have made it to atleast the elite 8. The years we ran the 1980s high low we were setting at home after the first weekend.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 01:00 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk that shows how aggressive we ain’t. Not sure I remember a team of KUs hovering around single digits for FT attempts.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 02:56 AM

I really don’t think this loss changes a lot with it being to a top 5 team on the road. I wouldn’t even be remotely worried if we had taken care of business against Fizzou and WV. We can still win this conference but it just got a lot tougher IMO. I think 3 losses wins it but the way we play on the road I’m not banking on us winning another away from Allen.

It’s concerning that guys like KJ, Hunt, Storr and Coit seem to have zero bounce to start games. Our starters are all experienced seniors but they don’t play with any poise. I don’t think Juan was terrible in the game tonight but a few freshmen level turnovers and 1/6 from the line for a 5th year senior guard is flat out unacceptable. Which in turn made it a terrible night. Hunt was super soft tonight which we all knew was a terrible match up with how ISU plays. Hopefully we take our frustration on the Mildcats Saturday like we did UCF.

Edit: I’ll continue to blow my horn at KJ playing too much. Both of our big runs had him on the bench.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 02:06 AM

@BShark time to trim up the rotation at this point Coit and AJ should only play a few minutes when need for foul trouble.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 02:03 AM

The defense wasn’t terrible, you won’t beat them while they are shooting 62% from 3 in Hilton. We just had zero answers on offense a combined 10 points for Hunt and KJ won’t win us many games. Silly turnovers and missed FTs at key moments by our 5th year senior PG was definitely disappointing.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:45 AM

KJ and Hunt have to stop over helping, 3 wide open dunks because if it

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:42 AM

@StLJhawk already 2 losses tho

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:36 AM

I feel like a loss here and we are all but done in the conference

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:35 AM

We once again have little energy and are getting out hustled

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:28 AM

wtf are you doing Juan? Jesus looking like a freshman

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 16, 2025 12:11 AM

A 5th senior clanking FTs smh

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 15, 2025 01:02 PM

@wissox we need Zeke to Channel his inner Elijah Johnson 2013 up there lol

Other games 2025-2026 • Jan 15, 2025 03:28 AM

It looks like there is about 300 people at the Octagon of Dumb tonight for KSU and Tech.

Looking back at Hilton • Jan 15, 2025 01:02 AM

I’m honestly less worried about these type of games. We seem to bring our A game when the situation calls for it. It the games when we are playing less competition like WV or Fizzou we have zero energy.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 12, 2025 04:05 AM

You can argue back and forth about which one is more important but great teams are good at both when they need to be. I believe no team has won a NC without being top 20 in both Defensive and Offensive efficiency since KenPom started tracking them. Defense is better to me because it travels and doesn’t have an off night.

2024 NFL Season • Jan 12, 2025 03:33 AM

I think the Steelers are silly for benching Fields I’m sorry but Wilson is way past his prime and made some very silly decisions tonight. A guy has to wonder if he has played his final game as a starter in the NFL

Other Football Games of Interest • Jan 12, 2025 03:31 AM

I think OSU spanks the hell outta ND personally. I hope not but OSU is just at another level this season.

Other Football Games of Interest • Jan 12, 2025 03:30 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 you know they will claim it in some way

Other games 2025-2026 • Jan 12, 2025 12:27 AM

@FarmerJayhawk @BShark was hoping the Mildcats could at least give them a game. That is one of the worst teams in Manhattan since the early 00s and Woolridge was there.

Favorite All Time Players • Jan 12, 2025 12:09 AM

Phog Allen was famous for saying you could win a title with Wilt and 4 sorority girls

David Lawrence on the radio said it was the lowest point total for an opponent on the road since 1960 when we held Nebraska to 39 in Lincoln

The 9 Man Rotation • Jan 11, 2025 10:13 PM

Nice to the guys put some pride in on that side the floor. Watching KJ go hard after offensive rebounds is exactly what people mean when they say it’s 90% want to and 10% skill. I’ve never seen KJ hustle like that on the glass in the last 4 years. Shak has really been a difference maker for this team so far especially after the WV loss which is one of the worst in the Bill Self era IMO. 9 man rotation works fine just need AJ and Rylan to continue to improve for this team to be a great one.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 08:39 PM

I’ve been pretty easy on Juan this year, he’s been pretty solid for the most part but Shak out played him hardcore today. Idk how many deflections he got today. I hate how if you get one the steal goes to whomever catches it but I counted 8. Juando had 5 points and 1 assist today with zero fouls telling me he wasn’t aggressive in the slightest

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 08:34 PM

@wissox I think that the rims weren’t regulation size in this one haha

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 08:22 PM

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 08:12 PM

This maybe one of the ugliest games in memory but a win is a win lol

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 07:59 PM

This is an ole big east game here, wish we could get a few foul calls on them

@approxinfinity said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:

@kjayhawks maybe in output thus far but seem like different mindsets and phenotypes to me. AJ is more capable of driving. Wingspan is longer. Rylen less streaky more compact shooter as catch and shoot guy, AJ can more create his own shot. Rylen seems more consistent and postive mentally.

Yes I agree they are definitely different but I think you don’t want both on the floor at once. You just go with the hot hand
