@kuballin10 Here we go again...
@rockchalkjayhawk Maybe she saved you some agony in the long run. Drawn out tension ending with a win always feels worth it. Losing not so much!
Score, please?
Sweet 16!
I find myself more interested in Big 12 football now. Maybe it is because I haven't been in the midwest for 45 years, and expanding the conf to nearly span the country gives me more teams to follow without having to try to follow the old region's rivalries.
Article with box score. You'd figure the athletics department could get Parker's name right but...no.

So weird that Marcus acts like their players are so warm and welcoming and our guys weren't. Totally out of character for a KU team!💙🌾❤️ and our staff.
@dylans said in 2024 Recruiting:
@Crimsonorblue22 I would not put much stock into anything Marcus Adams says.
I suspect in the first few days our players were just as welcoming until they apparently ran into some major attitude issue with him. His experience here also might have, with some strong cautions from Few, humbled him a bit. Not like Few to be careless about warning signs.
@dylans One thing I love is that someone has an old refrigerator in the basement, or a truck from 1962, and immediately says, "They don't build 'em like that anymore!"
As if all the ones that they did build are still around. "Hey! Do you know what an exception is?"
@wissox I hope the names aren't grouped by theme. I have always suspected you are a celeb, though.
@DanR Odds are you are 88.39% exactly precisely approximately correctly right on!
@wissox I know their rep. How could they know this, though?
Gotta love an author who writes "Approximately 26.5% of adults drink to excess."
Perhaps "Approximately a quarter of adults drink to excess" might be better.
Research strategizing session: "Let's make up numbers about a topic no one could possibly know with anything other than a WAG, then make sure they are presented down to a 10th of a percent to make it look like we have carefully measured stuff!"
"Ooh, that"s fun!"
"Thank you, class, for your suggestions. Now, back to Intro to Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics...."
Back in the mid-70's, there was a calculation released by someone that was based on actual numbers. Total amount of beer sold in a city, divided by the number of adults in the city as reported in the census. Hays, Kansas, as I recall, had one of the highest per capita consumption rates of beer in the US. Or so my friends from what we thereafter called "Haze" told us...rather proudly.
@approxinfinity Very interesting. I'd love to see a breakdown of the drinking rates by type of car driven, whether they actually attended WVU, red/blue, and age. So, get on that, please.
Stats like this, of course, depend on self-reporting by respondents to some type of survey. I am sure the same technique is used to generate remarkably low rates of domestic abuse and tax fraud.
@jayballer67 Well, you have been full of surprises over the years, and you have been around forever, so I just figured I missed Mangino being a brother in law, or step-uncle or something!
@rockchalkjayhawk How do your 1st 2 sentences not lead directtly to the description of his exit in sentence #3😉
@jayballer67 If kids have to learn how to accept being manhandled by coaches, perhaps it is reasonable to expect the older and more experienced coaches to learn how to accept mistakes and dumb plays without taking their anger out by manhandling players.
@wissox PHOF!
Brown leaves Nuggets, Braun will be counted on to step up.

@Crimsonorblue22 Journalistic unforgivable error...says the father was a 'co-defendant". Uh, no.
@bskeet I wonder if Charles Dickens, were he alive, would wish he could have used the NCAA as his model for his novel Bleak House. The case that was based on only took from 1797 to the 1850's to resolve.
@bskeet The Archie Marshall injuries were so heartbreaking! Motivated the '88 team, for sure.
@dylans I believe California rescinded those restrictions on state-funded travel to states with, shall we say, less progressive legislation. Wouldn't be possible for UCLA to move to the Big 10 otherwise.
@wissox No, I charge. Just sign over however much K pays to live in yours! 🤑
@wissox 37 years and still obsessed! You post about K in that game, and the Wisc game, so often that I wonder if you remember Brown, Williams, and Self ever talking to the refs. Or do they just never try to influence them and smile graciously?
Pretty good company!
CB is NCAA/NBA champ in consecutive years! Any others ever from KU?
@jayballer67 Tomorrow
Notable fact: Attended every Super Bowl.
Classy lady, will be sad not to see her in the next 5 or 6 celebrations
@approxinfinity said in Has Bill Self seen aliens?:
I wonder if anyone has plotted what the stars would look like from a foreign world and made up that worlds constellations, including our sun.
All you need is a 3D star map that can be manipulated to put youurself anywhere in the map. Once the star location data is created, shifing perpective and reducing it to 2D should ne easy. I don't know if anyone has invented constellations from those views, though! Cool idea...create a different world's mythology!
This generator (for creating game backgrounds, I guess) looks like it might be able to do it:

I'm sure cosmologists have numerous tools to do it. It would be vital for interstellar navigation. I remember Star Trek (Voyager?) episodes where they had to figure out where they were after going through wormholes, and they used a (CGI) hologram to simulate the galaxy.
I have it on good authority that he was seen drinking with aliens at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Trying to recruit the ones with 4 arms. Don't know how much HCBS imbibed, but rumor has it he left there looking for Yoda to be a backup 5.
@Kcmatt7 I think he is an alien plant. Can anyone prove he isn't?
How'm I going to study medicine if you lock posts with learned info such as rampant speculation???
@AsadZ You missed the headline, apparently, so it looked like statement rather than the author's idea of what NO should do. Happens a lot, partly because layout editing is soooo poor nowadays!
"7 Post-June 1 Moves That NFL Teams Should Make Before Training Camp"
@AsadZ Do you know something no one else knows?
@wissox said in Other fantastic news:
What, is Higgins your son or something?
Geez, I hope not. But there was this one girl who wore stripes a lot....
OMG, is he retiring in order to focus on getting past child support???
@wissox said in Other fantastic news:
How does this universally disliked ref have numerous final fours on his resume?
Not universally, but on refereeing I am always the lone voice in the wilderness. Of course, I learned as a judge that if trying to be fair results in pissing everybody off equally you may be doing something right.
@DanR Yeah, but I knew a guy who talked to someone who saw someone who looked like that and someone nearby commented that they read something on an internet forum about some medical condition!
As the title says, an ugly topic.
@dylans @FarmerJayhawk Thanks!
@FarmerJayhawk Paywall. 😒
Stats about life expectancy after medical procedures are distorted by their very nature because there is no final age data for people still living in the sample. Furthermore, it is hard to accurately control for deaths caused by unrelated or even related conditions. And the stats don't account for the difference in good and not-so-good surgeons.
In that vein, I would suspect that the early aorta valve surgeries weigh down the overall expectancies. Almost every cardiac procedure has become vastly more successful as new techniques and materials have been developed.
Most likely, HCBS had the best of the bunch.
@BShark I hope he goes somewhere where he can play really well and get the plaudits he can cash in on later. But somewhere other than a team we play, so I can just enjoy following his career.
@RockkChalkk said in Off-season starting lineup ever changing thread:
This didn’t age well.
Only one of many comments made with certainty. Not very fair to pick just this one! Remembering one from early March last year, for example....
It's almost as if players' free will adds some unpredictability to these things.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in LoCain retirement:
If they have a time limit for the batters, LoCain would never make it.
The new rules do apply to batters. They get one timeout per at-bat, but have to call "time" while in the box before stepping out. They are required to be in the box and ready for a pitch before the pitcher's 20 second clock gets down to 8 seconds. Not being ready, or not calling "time" properly or calling it another time, is an automatic "strike" on the batter.
You are right, though...maybe that is really why LoCain retired. He'd strike out without a pitch being thrown!
Funny how such a fast guy could be so slow.
Hosmer has been DFA'd by the Red Sox. 2 HRs and batting .236 in 100 ABs. Might be over for him soon.
But fret not--he'll get by. Still being paid by San Diego through next year to the tune of over $25 million, I believe.
@jayballer67 Well, to be fair everybody who has been healthy enough to suit up for KU has had a chance to prove himself in practice. Just a little window of opportunity, but hustle and enthusiasm has helped even walkons and other bench players advance to significant PT. Call it the Releford/Moody/Teahan/Lightfoot path to a Jayhawk legacy.
@wissox said in Bye Bye Ernest:
The guys I don’t understand leaving are the guys like Udeh, and Zuby who played regularly as freshmen and had a bright future here.
But they no doubt want to play pro somewhere. Coming off the bench a second year would limit their chances pretty severely. I don't like them being gone, but they are preparing for a career and their developmental years would be half or 3/4 gone before they ever start if they stayed at KU while HD is here.
@AsadZ UNDEFEATED!
Well, sure, I know...but why the hell not? I mean, just think how much fun it would be to shut up both the 1972 and 2023 Dolphins in one fell swoop?
