IARP update β€’ Oct 11, 2023 02:43 AM

@kjayhawks said in IARP update:

Utah players all get brand new trucks but Jim at Michigan gets suspended for buying someone dinner.

Well, IIRC, it was due to him denying buying a few guys dinner (during a non-recruiting period, I think) and then justifying his denial by offering the preposterous claim he just hadn't remembered doing it.

Ok so now here we go. Don't shoot the messenger. β€’ Oct 10, 2023 05:38 PM

I wonder if adding Spokane gives a hint about designs on WSU and OSU?

One of the biggest coaching blunders so far this season.

But the best part of the story is that the Miami coach did a similar thing as the Oregon coach in 2018, letting Stanford come back to tie the game and then win in OT.

Myron Medcalf Disrespecting Kansas Basketball β€’ Oct 06, 2023 01:05 PM

I must admit, at last count I spend over 53.7 hours a week worrying about what self-appointed experts think about comparisons among teams and players throughout history of every sport down to the national Vietnam ping pong championships. Huge controversies there over which lefty had the best overhand slam in 1934 during the French colonial occupation. And which Pee Wee football team in Idaho is the GOAT? Man, don't get me started.

2024 Recruiting β€’ Sep 26, 2023 01:16 PM

@dylans That comparison is absurd considering Udeh's career only had 3 years left, and potentially he would have had only one to get lots of playing time. I am pretty sure yours has lasted longer, and I doubt you ever had to outwork the very best candidate in the country. (But definitely congrats for making it to the top!)

This is where our D does something really stupid like a late hit on a QB.

Just read the thread. Right prediction, just the wrong game and team. I watched the never-ending nightmare of Colorado State doing about 5 stupid penalties to lose their game. 17 penalties, 182 yards. To quote our friend here, Jumpin' Jehosophat!

To bed at 2:30 a.m. EDT. Lovely wife took pity and did the early morning walk of our dog ("the Beast").

Ironic discussion after the marina incident in Miami this summer where Hill slapped a worker trying to remove him from a boat he illegally boarded. Paid the guy off, so no charges.

The child abuse investigation led to no charges because they could not determine who broke the kid's arm, not because they decided he didn't. And his language telling the mom she "should be terrified" of him is a bit disturbing.

I am going with time-bomb, myself.

@dylans @AsadZ Ok, details have been released. Same base salary for this year of $19.5 million, plus @ $6 mil in possible perf bonuses so he can make up his fines.

Free agent next year, but KC still has franchise tag available.

No word on any guarantees.

Chiefs signings β€’ Sep 12, 2023 02:31 AM

@dylans I should have acknowledged that since the contract isn't long-term with a huge percentage of it being a signing bonus amortized over the full-term, you are right: the Chiefs do not gain extra cap room in the future to sign FAs.

No word yet on if Jones can get tagged next year? Kicking the can down the road, I guess. I also wonder about guaranteed amounts...is Jones betting on free agency and accepting an injury risk for 1 year?

Lots we don't know!

@dylans I think performance bonuses do not count against the cap.

@Crimsonorblue22 I like how you think.
Remember, this is the same board that has come to firm conclusions about the Jayhawks' lack of success in the upcoming season, and absolutist opinions about the limited ceilings of some players, based on the PR trip.

Chiefs signings β€’ Sep 08, 2023 07:16 PM

@dylans I remember how the Chiefs' season ended that same season...with a boneheaded play on defense giving Tom Brady a chance to win in OT.

So, maybe since we started this season with a bunch of boneheaded plays perhaps we have gotten those out of the way.

NFL Season - 2023 β€’ Sep 06, 2023 10:00 PM

Who are the teams you root for besides the Chiefs? This question is not about who you want to win for playoff spot jockeying...just who has players, history, fans, city, coach, or something that makes you get a kick out of seeing them do well.

Mine is Jacksonville. Have enjoyed watching Lawrence come along so well (despised his first ass-hat coach). Despite the fact that he looks like Central Casting's candidate for a role as an Elf in a Lord of the Rings movie.

I didn't realize ISM had a total of 6 catches since being drafted in '21. Lots of talent showed this preseason, but against 2nd/3rd string guys. Seems awfully fast, but Ross is likely faster. Will track him. Not sure Panthers are great for anyone.....

Chiefs signings β€’ Aug 29, 2023 01:06 PM

From ESPN:

The Carolina Panthers acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-rounders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Smith-Marsette was originally drafted in the fifth-round in 2021 by the Minnesota Vikings. He has six career regular-season catches.

2023-24 Non-confernce Schedule β€’ Aug 11, 2023 09:59 AM

2023-24 Non-confernce Schedule β€’ Aug 11, 2023 02:45 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Quite possible.

@bskeet Not sure you have been reading what I have. The tourist area up north is dependent on Lahaina, which is, literally, almost 100% gone. How ya gonna get there? Govt has already been discussing how they expect to need the resorts for housing the displaced. If rebuilding even begins, they will need housing for workers and the roads will need to be free for supplies and resources. Who would want to suggest, "Hey, let's disrupt everything to play 3-4 days of basketball!" I hope to God the schools have better sense than that.

2023-24 Non-confernce Schedule β€’ Aug 11, 2023 12:11 AM

Pretty sure Maui will have to be cancelled. Lahaina looks like Dresden in WW2.

@AsadZ One thing to be aware of is that T-M counts all your home wifi use toward any usage of your cell data plan. They give unlimited usage, but they reserve the right once you gave reached some level of combined usage (say, 100 GB when we looked) to slow down your speeds to give priority to other users. Their plan seems pretty popular so maybe those provisions have changed.

You should also consider the infrastructure used in your area. Years ago we were in a hurricane in Virginia. All cell towers went down but we had cable internet (underground connected to our neighborhood) and were able to stay connected.

Streaming Services β€’ Aug 09, 2023 08:29 PM

@AsadZ Make sure you test the speeds you actually get in your home before signing up. Maps lie!

Interesting article by an ex-agent who repped a couple of hold-out players previously. Analyzes several current players holding out, including Jones. Gets deep into the weeds on penalties that vary based on where players are in their careers, and discusses factors affecting how public comments can help or sabotage negotiations. (Note: The author refers to both our player and the Cowboys' owner as "Jones". Any references to "Jones" in the context of their OL Martin holding out are to Jerry.)

Ditto for everything rckchljhwk said about Youtube TV. We watch a lot of stuff on Amazon Prime (where we added PBS/Masterpiece to wallow in Britsh police shows), and Netflix. Also have MAX (HBO) but they have reduced their selection so much we will probably cancel that one.

Used to have Fubo, but they don't carry any Turner related stations, so we had to add Sling for March Madness. Then discovered it didn't have TCM. Youtube TV has all those (plus Hallmark & HGTV channels for the distaff half of our household).

Might be a lot but we don't go out a lot (no movies since 2019!), and the evenings here on what has been called Hell's Front Porch are too hot for about 5 months a year (buggy for 12) to sit out much. We enjoy relaxing and just being old people!
