Was just about to post this as well. Matt Norlander of CBS is reporting such. Ugh

I think in the end, Self looks pretty good even if Grimes leaves undrafted. Kid got plenty of opportunities. Any recruit that gets dissuaded coming to KU because of Grimes getting misused would probably be a bad fit anyway. Is there someone Grimes is associated with that Self is targeting?
I don't believe Grimes has any direct connection to a player Self is targeting currently but I bet you Texas recruits have noticed.
Good points. My expectation after that episode was that Arya would finish killing people on her list (Cersei mainly). That had been one of her continuing arc's in the show and it just ended basically after that major plot arc in E3. The whole sequence in E5 of her surviving and getting on the horse made it seem like her list might have gained a new target (Dany) but that never happened either.. It was an odd ending to her story.

@BShark @BeddieKU23 And I favor playing the more talented player from the start. That's always been my belief. I just felt when we got to a certain point in the season, a different look for Grimes would have been worth trying, all with the goal of moving him back to the starting lineup. @BeddieKU23 See my comment a few posts on the "if not Grimes then who" thing .. my thought was more a disruption in the routine. Bench him for a bit, reduce minutes, 6th man, whatever .. see if that could jump start him.
I wonder if it was considered. It's worked in the past Self sending a message and trying to get motivation through PT or reduced role. Newman was a recent example. So that's a good point why it wasn't really explored. Maybe he thought it would potentially do more harm then good? Not having a fully checked in Vick probably made it difficult to justify as well. The last straw for Vick as I remember was being benched in the first half of a game. I wonder if Self thought that type of behavior would have spilled over to Grimes and he wanted to keep giving Grimes the perception of confidence by not benching him at points in the season where he wasn't performing.

@kjayhawks agree. Last few seasons were a lot of eyecandy and not much substance. Weird parallels to the OAD era?
I will say that the battle with the White Walkers was absolutely gorgeous.
My heart was on edge the entire episode.
The episode though was highly cinematic and goes along with the "eyecandy" comment.
I agree with that. He likely wouldn't have played that much.
Grimes could have been one of Self's favorites. We all know what happens when Self favors someone.
Was Self sending a message to recruits that he'll play highly ranked freshman from the get-go?
One thing I'll add that wasn't mentioned is if it wasn't Grimes then who? I think the staff identified that playing Dotson with Grimes gave them the best offense potentially. Playing him with Garrett was redundant because neither is a feared shooter.

I think one of the problems is the high school ranking system. There’s probably 75 kids that can make it to the top 50, or at least have a solid argument on why they should. The ranking system is somewhat flawed and builds too much ego in these players, along side their parents, and get unrealistic expectations for how long they should stay in college by their ranking coming out of high school.
Definitely plays a part. If Grimes was the #100 ranked player coming to KU, starts all season with that stat line he's probably judged differently. When your a Top 10 player and come here and have that kind of season your going to take criticism.

Jaden McDaniels to Washington was a nice kick in the crotch to UK. Hope EJ leaves too. That'd be real nice.
Odd recruitment. Washington has two potential lottery picks in the front court. Stewart could be the best freshman next year

Okay guys, thoughts on this year's recruiting class? We already have Enaruna, Braun and McBride, who else do you think we will add?
Since recruiting is now more then just HS kids. We get Dotson back, Silvio is eligible, Hampton commits and he assists in getting Wilson to join as well. That's the dream boat scenario. I give that one a 10% chance.
Dotson could stay in the draft, the appeals committee could continue to stone wall De Sousa, Hampton could go play in Antarctica for all I care and Wilson will go to UNC or back to Michigan for all we know. I give this one a 20% chance.
Dotson returns, Silvio is ineligible, Hampton & Wilson join the team in June. I give this one a 50% chance.
Dotson returns, Silvio is ineligible, Hampton joins but Wilson goes elsewhere. I give this one a 20% chance.
I'll go with option #3. Dotson, Hampton & Wilson join/return.

@KUSTEVE speaking of, Shak Juiston officially graduated this weekend.
Has KU kicked the tires on him or his handler yet?
Hopefully that doesn't impact Wilson.. but have a feeling it will. If he hires the Assistant definitely worried

This doesn't please me. Don't let me down Jalen, a 2nd time

Just leave, already..... Time to get this crap behind us and move the hell on.
Even doing so only the player moves on. The NCAA investigation still looms over KU no matter if he's here or not
I read all the books but that was after the first five seasons of the tv show were completed. I have always separated my thoughts on the books from the show. I don't feel you can judge either together. Two completely different beasts.
The Walking Dead received similar criticism for its direction of the show, having source material to use but picking and choosing where to deviate.
dylans said:
@BeddieKU23 They didn’t have the books to follow and it showed. The HBO writers pale in comparison to George R R Martin. Too bad, but they started changing things early on.
Correct they didn't. I think its unfair to expect they would be able to. Most of us would probably agree that Martin has a brilliant mind that made all of this possible.
Martin did give them notes but at that point they owned how the story would end. If Martin had finished the books maybe we would have gotten a completely different last season.
The next two weeks are the most important 2 weeks of the entire spring. De Sousa, Dotson, Hampton, Wilson.
dylans said:
Is it really that bad? Or are people just grieving the loss of their fav show?
Avengers Infinity War/ Endgame killed off a lot of characters and ended their franchises, but I don’t here near the backlash.
I don't think its people grieving. I don't think its as bad as some are painting it to be. I do think it falls short of overwhelming expectations overall. They had nearly two years to get this right and I'm not sure they did. It's possible the success made it impossible to provide an ending that satisfied mostly everyone
Will Wade signs a 5 star forward yesterday.
Just more proof about how damaging the first trial was compared to the 2nd. Nobody cared about the 2nd.
This last season was definitely rushed. 6 episodes wasn't enough after seeing how they wrapped up storylines. Not even extending the run times of the shows by some 20 minutes per did it make up for lost time. This season needed 10 episodes. That's my only criticism about this whole thing. The ending wasn't what I expected. I expected it to end chaotically or with some other open ended major cliffhanger that we'd ponder over.
I agree about Bran. I'm disappointed how they wrapped up his story. I'm disappointed how Cersei's story ended as well. They set it up for her to have a glorious death and the execution felt empty.
Seasons 1-7 were epic. This last season was up and down. I won't let the last season diminish how amazing this show was overall. It captivated my attention from the very beginning.
RJ just said he could join Jalen on his visit. What point would he have going there if it wasn't to help recruit him
I think the issue is he didn't qualify to transfer and use the grad-transfer route which would have allowed him to go to Memphis. If that's the case I think KU's out as well.
Woodrow said:
According to Evan Daniels per RJ's father he may visit with Jalen when he visits. Also targeting first week of June for announcement.
Good news
I'll be interested in your thoughts on the season once you watch it. It's received a mix bag of reviews from a lot of people. My only issue was they shortened the seasons in 7 & 8 and it felt like they really could have gone 10 with each and wrapped it up better. I'm not complaining though, I had no issues with how things went and how they ended it. It seems like I might be in the minority there though
Anyone a fan of GOT on this board?
Since the Series Finale aired last night I figured I'd ask around if anyone watched it and had been keeping up with the last season.
I have a hard time thinking anything will ever top this show for me.
Maybe they pursue Maddy Sissoko as that bigger athletic type big. I mean he can rim run and defend the basket but can't do much else.. Could do worse.

@BeddieKU23 I just think we have a weird roster at the moment. We have those tweener guys that scare players away. You're not telling anyone they're starting over Ochai in 2020. McBride should scare some PGs. Braun is a 6'8 Wing player with a stroke. Garrett will be a Senior Wing player. Enaruna a guy plenty athletic to have a good Sophomore season at PF. Big Dave at C.
I guess I personally just don't see 5 starting spots to sell at the moment. I see a lot of competition.
Recruiting just seems to be changing quicker then KU can keep up.
Positions KU will have to focus on regardless is PG & PF/C. KU will need at least two big bodies even if Jaylen signs with KU.

KU recently offered 5 star guard Cam Thomas of Oak Hill. Master Bucket getter is all you need to know here
That's a great description. He's not super quick, or super athletic, or really big, or anything else. He just puts the ball in the basket over and over and over.
Now, he's not overly small, or unathletic, or slow by any means. But the thing that stands out about him when you watch is that he puts the ball in the basket all the time.
There's a lot of Malik Newman in him. Not saying they are the same type of prospect but the ability to score is what they do best. I'm surprised we didn't offer earlier. He's one of the best scorers in the country regardless of class
Really wondering where KU's focus will be in 2020. I wouldn't consider anyone in the Top 15 to end up at KU right now.
Kyree Walker seems like the prospect we have the most traction with but he's been bouncing between 19 & 20. I don't think it will end well if he sticks in 20 when other teams look at him as a focus. The edge for KU in 19 was having scholarships available and PT.
Is it just me or does it feel like KU is behind the 8 ball with this class? Didn't get many underclassmen on campus for visits. KU has 5 starting spots to sell after this season. I'm surprised how little interest kids have with that

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2019/may/19/jeff-long-ncaa-needed-more-information-ku-after-in/ ↗
Jeff Long states the NCAA needed more info after the initial appeal. That seems to be the hold up. Either that or it was a NO and they are just appealing again? Who knows. We should know by 2026
Jalen Wilson schedules a KU visit, his potentially only visit. RJ says he's got a commitment date in mind. This pleases me
Agree with you here. Him being eligible would be positive news for the program and recruiting to build around him. Can't see how sitting on that helps anyone

I heard his Step-Dad say China was an option
Don't do this to me.
A 2 for 1 deal sounds awfully good. New toys, we don't know their weaknesses yet.
And yet I'd still take Dotson back over them. Having a PG with experience is just so vital to success. Dotson truly did a phenomenal job as a freshman. I want to see how he follows it up.
So as painful as it is I choose Dot

Finally dodged a nightmare for once
@BeddieKU23 If there is any statement that has been spot on, you seem to be the one that nailed it. Can't believe Self saw this guy as any sort of fit here. I have never understood it.
I happen to have some insight to Achiuwa through my friend that's on the staff at Brewster Academy. He's good friends with Achiuwa's former coach in New Jersey. Talent wise he's exactly what Self goes after. Off the court this is exactly the nightmare we needed to stay clear of for all reasons we all know.

@BeddieKU23 Whatever you do, don't watch the Youtube video of Ramsey taking on Jalen. Ugh...
I have seen it before. Rewatched. Ramsey is a stud. KU never really put any effort in him. He'll make us pay
Wilson can really shoot it which is what we need of him
Well, in this case there is a good chance he wasn't interested. The reason KU puts out so many offers in the first place is to try and determine who is really interested.
Yeah that's probably true. KU isn't a juggernaut on the crutin trail right now. Obviously that could change here pretty quick but we're taking our lumps this cycle
There was talk of making him a 5 star prospect this spring
