Jesse Newell has become overly critical of our football program since he started writing for the KC Star. Yes, Jesse it's really easy to write about flaws and mistakes in a struggling program. That's about the same level of journalism as standing on a Florida beach and reporting about the wind and waves. In a recent article Newell dissected and analyzed the two flawed offensive plays in the fourth quarter, all of which were obvious to everyone. Thanks for adding nothing to the discussion, Jesse. Oh yeah, Newell has KU losing to CC. We'll see, hack.

I’m honestly surprised he ever comes to games since it’s probably really hard to fit his ego in the press box. Jesse is one of this new breed of jouros who firmly believes you can cover a subject very effectively and never really talk to said subject. Contrast with Gary Bedore who I’m 80% sure has a cot outside Self’s office. One guy gets scoops, the other plays with Excel and tells two Hall of Famers how to do their jobs.

@Texas-Hawk-10 yep. Chadwell is still their play caller, and notoriously inflexible.

Coastal also has a different head coach this year than last year. We don't know yet if the new coach wants to keep that ratio or if he wants to pass more than they did last year.

He was their offensive coordinator last year so it would be very odd if he changed philosophy.

Dorian will be in this neck of the woods Wednesday and Thursday but hopefully it turns out to the ocean. Might delay their travel if it hangs around too long.

Solid win. The line play wasn’t great on either side, but did just enough. Stanley was passable. Kid has stones. Rumor is MacVittie is nicked up. I didn’t love the playcalling, especially in the first half. I think the offense will be a work in progress as the staff gets a better idea of what they have. Pooka will make a huge difference next week. Pooka + a week of film to digest makes me think we’ll be better next week. It is abundantly clear this staff can coach. Les was a steady force out there and even had his great Mad Hatter moment. We’re in a good spot.

And your Score prediction my friend?

Ah! The most important part. 31-17 good guys. It'll be a struggle to score at times without Pooka or a settled QB situation. Guessing it's not super comfortable at half but we pull away late.

Just watched them all. Miles’s face when the RC was like “nope, just me and a student” was amazing. Explains so much about how garbage the last admin was. Also Miles’s reaction to the RC just having highlights. No wonder we’ve sucked.

The culture change with Long as Miles vs. Zenger and Beaty is already evident. It didn’t do anything for my expectations for win-loss record, but it’s clear the Jayhawks are coming.

You don't think KU has a shot with Thompson?

Oh, I definitely do! Like @jayballer73 said, it's just my guess for his list. I know those 5 will be on it, not sure on the other 2. I think KU, UNC, and Okie Lite are the top 3, not sure on the order. Earlier this summer it looked like it would be KU or UNC and he'd commit before school started, but now it looks like he'll take 5 officials and decide around the early signing period.

A bowl game seems a bridge way too far this year. 3-4 league wins is a big reach. I'm still thinking 4 wins: ISU, Coastal, KSU, WVU. We still don't really have a QB, depth on defense is about non-existent, and there's still questions at RG and RT. Beaty went JuCo and blueshirt heavy because HS coaches basically quit taking his calls. Blushirting 10 guys in 2018 (some of whom exhausted eligibility before their IC even counted) was really, really, really shortsighted. Hence the classes are still wildly out of whack compared to others, and we won't add numbers on net until 2021.

My big beef with Beaty is he said he was going to build with HS kids and then just... didn't. Including signing exactly zero HS DT's.

@jayballer73 greyshirts can be on campus the spring semester, just not fall. I suppose he could take classes in the fall and pay out of his own pocket, but I doubt many want to go down that road.

The media person was almost certainly Matt Scott. He had the NBL from about the jump.

I was at the Va Tech vs. UNC game last year and watched Willis. UNC's defense wasn't great, but he carved it up both through the air and on the ground. UNC gave that game away by fumbling away the TD that would've iced the game on the goal line, but Willis still had to drive Va Tech 80 yards down the field. Looked much better than at KU. I think he was pretty immature here. Probably good for him to get away from his folks.

@KUSTEVE likewise! This is the best KU board I’ve been a part of. The quality of discourse is terrific.

I like him a lot as well. He’s got a bit of Aaron Miles to his game. He and Mackey are good complements. I very much hope he can get here in December. Sounds like August isn’t happening, but obviously I don’t know his schedule for sure.

@nuleafjhawk Totally agree on the YTTV thing. I dropped Spectrum for it when my intro rate was going up and haven't looked back. I did buy an antenna for locals in case there's a big internet outage.

To watch this you'll have to download the ESPN app in Roku and subscribe to ESPN+. I think there's a free trial, but it's only $5 a month anyway.

@BeddieKU23 Oh I agree 100%. Just don't see the need to come out with a list. Just go take your visit and commit.

I hope the staff is prioritizing Love and Thompson.

I think farmer reported recently he thought KU cooled on Nix and that could have been to finding out UCLA was a heavy choice. Regardless its kids being kids, annoying but it's what we sign up for today following how things go down

I just hadn’t heard much lately linking KU and Nix. It’s full speed ahead on Thompson and Love. RJ Davis looks like Pitt or UNC. KK Robinson could get a longer look now.

@jayballer73 100% agree. If it’s a fall decision, it won’t be UK. Nix was at LA today for an official, but still working on scheduling one to KU. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Nix and Thompson visit the same weekend to develop some chemistry, and KU is the only school they have in common.

@Marco Have you noticed the NCAA hasn't said a peep about us??? I am starting to think Bshark is right- a big nothing burger.

To be fair, NOA's aren't public. KU and the NCAA don't have to acknowledge one, even if one exists. That being said, I haven't heard a peep from the AD that they've received one or anticipate receiving one.

Hudy going to Texas • Aug 19, 2019 04:33 PM

The whole reorganization of the S&C staff was to limit the AD's liability in this age of concussions and all that. We're the first, but everyone will eventually move to this model.
