i worry about all matchups, but to not have wichita state, duke, ucla, I'm good w that
@Jayrawks1 dwight coleby and anyone else I missed
@benshawks08 you are right, so many distractions, so many off the court problems. I have 6 kids, the bad behaving kids get all the attention bc they need to be guided. My wife and I constantly have to redirect our attention and we choose to give positive attention instead of bad. At this time, I choose to give praise to all our players who continue to be good on and off the court, men who are great ambassadors of our program. I appreciate the like of Mason, LL, Svi, ML, Tyler Self and our walk ons. Thank you men for being good on and off the court. Heres to hoping these young men get their off the court troubles shored up.
i read this wrong, sorry, it says a feb traffic accident?
My 100 bucks to buy the nba ticket just to watch Embiid was not worth the money! I hope they are just being cautious, shutting down Simmons and most likely Embiid, hope for the future, trust the process
I just watched the game again for about the 5th time, someone on youtube has it cut down to 40 min so it is an easy watch. I believe JJ ended up w 1 rebound, seriously? 1? So I went back to watch to see how this happened, and when I did I see it is because JJ worked his tail off defending men much larger than himself.
When you are playing out of position and having to guard a 7 footer when you are only 6'8" your best friend in the post is to front side them and try to make them throw over you so help side defense can come over and maybe pick a pass or deflect the ball. I watched JJ on every single play, never took my eyes off of him and the man worked so hard. If you ever want to see what a one and done looks like who has "unpacked his bags" JJ is it. He never stopped fighting for position, he never let his man get him pinned down low, he was great at fronting his man.
The other thing he did so well on defense is his 4 blocks. First off he should have had 5 but one was called a foul and the replay showed a clean block. The thing that can go unnoticed if you just look at the box score is that those 4 blocks lets call it 5 were not against smaller guards, 3 of them were against their 7 footer Lual-aciul, it would have been 4 against him if not for the foul. I mean cmon! that is impressive.
Jackson made his impact on offense w 16 however it took him 14 shots, most on the team, but his biggest contribution in this game was his effort on the defensive end!
Oh and I almost forgot, Jackson pulling off his man to double the shooter in the last few seconds was great defense as well.
@mayjay thanks, yeah I read it wrong
@Crimsonorblue22 sorry I read it wrong
@Crimsonorblue22 i don't think he is selfish, did I say he was?
Wiggins is only the 4th player under 22 to score consecutive 40 point games, he joins...
Lebron
Durant
Iverson
not bad
stealing this from someone else who mentioned it but Rubio dominates the assists and KAT the boards. Doesn't leave a ton to be had. I do think he could have more of an impact but he is doing exactly whats asked of him and under Thibbs he is and will become an even better defender.
@Crimsonorblue22 I saw that, just nasty. It isn't easy to score 40 in back to back games, I am sure he joined some good company
Granted my opinion is based off of the idea that it looks like Young will go to OU, however I saw some highlights of his game two nights ago. They were great, Steph Curry range, I mean he shoots from distance and is good at it. Yes he is 17 or 18 or whatever but in one highlight he shot a long three and then stared at his feet to show everyone how far away he shot it from, this isn't the first time I have seen him do that either. At that time i thought, man Self is going to have to reel him in on that stuff because that doesn't fly at KU. I sensed he will have to do a lot of maturing in one year to play for Self and I wondered if he would fit well with KU. Now I am still hoping he picks KU and I will be super excited to have him but I did have some reservations after seeing some of his highlights recently. I do know that probably everyone of our players did dumb things like that in HS, but I guess I just didn't see them. Either way, I hope the best for KU and that Young is happy wherever he goes, he is a great talent.
I saw Jerry Meyer picked OU and Matt Scott as well, looking like OU. Never know but my guess is...KU will be ok...as always.
I know he announces tomorrow, is there a time? Will it be televised?
one was a loss to the cavs last night and tonight is about to wrap up as a win against the nuggets
that was awesome!! reminds me of the guy n the 90s w the big gold nose
@Eric-san it makes me feel more normal when he does
and to think I was feeling good because Baylor lost, thought oh I won't lose my cool, that lasted 2 min into the game and three loose ball calls that went against us
it used to be the throw the head back when someone touched him on defense, wonder what his next quirk will be
I think DG has the head fake, ball fake, pump fake down...
@Eric-san because svi only understands shoot shoot shoot, defense and clock management don't exist to him
@Eric-san you were very close on this
Just a for fun thread...but what if Wiggins and JJ were to switch teams. Jackson would play on the 2014 KU team with T.Black, Selden, Tharpe and Ellis with subs Mason, Frankcamp and Traylor (speaking mainly late season lineup when Embiid was hurt) and Wiggins would get to play with this team.
Wiggins is a brilliant player and a freak athlete and his talent has translated to the NBA, however at KU he showed flashes and as most believe he was at KU as a stepping stone to the NBA. Wiggins as a freshman would be great on this team with a senior Mason who is our go to and willing to lead a team in all areas. Wiggins would play the perfect compliment role and would have become even more of a shut down defender. Wiggins would not have to be Alpha. When we needed Wiggins the most in the tourney he had 4 points, seriously 4! He shot the ball only 6 times. He had no impact on that game whatsoever.
Now imagine JJ on that 2014 team. JJ plays a good 2nd fiddle to Mason and he is able to contribute even if he isn't the main scoring option. You can even see in the last 6 games that JJ is even finding himself challenging Mason for go to scorer (this is a good thing, not a controversial thing). But does anyone in their right mind believe JJ would have had 4 points in a tournament game? 1-6 shooting, 4 rbs, 1 assist and 1 steal? NO WAY!
We have been blessed to have two talents such as Wiggs and JJ, and I love them both as a Jayhawk fan, however we just got them in the wrong order. What could have been.
I will say I am very happy to have JJ on this team and I wouldn't trade this year, we have 2 players that legitimately can be talked about as players of the year. JJ is picking up pace in this department.
Anyone else ever thought about this? Or am I just that bored working overnights and lonely haha
Im not trying to start a rumor or feed into one, but did anyone else hear that the 92 point game was staged? Read some tweets that mentioned something ab it
It seems a little obvious to me what Frans issue with KU is, his son walked on at OU, walk on or scholarship it doesn't matter, he was vested and into OU, it was his sons team for crying out loud. He loved OU because his son played there and he will always favor them. He will always hate KU deep down because he is an OU fan at heart. The same reason all other Big 12 teams hate us, we always win. Even when OU had some of their best chances with future pros with Griffin and recently Buddy, they could not beat us. He is paid to be partial however he just can't help himself. I am for one getting tired of his face and his comments, I tweet him daily letting him know that he is obvious in his hate for KU.
Jeff Rosen said it is the same girl who accused Vick of hitting anf kicking her but not the same girl that accused Bragg recently
The vandalism was to the car of that same girl
That someone is the same girl who is accusing Vick of hitting her and kicking her, which I believe is the same girl who accused Bragg of also hitting her
Greene went through similar struggles last year and we see what happened there, from the rumor mill he was told try the NBA or leave. Greene had a few more prior issues than Bragg considering Bragg was found not guilty in the case earlier this year
I heard Colin Cowherd say once, "Don't do anything to put yourself under a microscope, because we all look bad when looked into a little deeper".
I am unsure if this is his original thought but it always resonated with me. Bragg seems to be under the microscope and the incident with the girl earlier this year put him there. He seems to be, from a distance, a good kid who made a mistake and is now under the microscope, where of course he looks awful. He will need to walk the line for some time to come now if he wants to get out from under it. This will be a point in his life that can set him up for future success, or be the beginning of his downfall.
"Make GOOD present choices for a GREAT future" Mr Bragg, we are all hoping the best for you!
@BShark I am with you, makes sense and also like you said, still dumb but I am very relieved that it was not for involvement for the rape charges.
I imagine when police investigated the rape case that they went through most of the dormitory and that is when it was found, just a guess
it was confirmed by KCTV5
Just read a tweet that said Bragg was charged with drug paraphernalia, not sure if it is true
Wiggins finishes w 31 pts and the game winner
@Crimsonorblue22 I agree that JJ D left some to be desired. I wonder how much had to do with him being scared to foul
not looking good for Kentucky, I personally would rather face them after a win as opposed to after a loss
awful news for this girl, selfishly for our basketball team. I hope justice is served and all our young men were not involved
If bragg wasn't fouled on his last post move I'm not sure how that was a foul on bragg
@mayjay I guess you are correct I was trying to say I am not an NBA guy who cares about a particular team nor do I watch random games unless its the playoffs. I usually tune in to Ku players games. Since Joel Embiid I now root for a particular team, maybe my definition of an NBA guy is wrong, which it probably is, lol
I love them both, to even have this conversation is great for Jayhawk fans and even better for my autographed team ball with both of them on it!
I am not an NBA guy, haven't been since the Jordan days and a few years after. I however watch a lot of NBA and the playoffs every year. For the last couple years I have watched Id say around 50 games of Wiggins, this year I actually purchased the NBA ticket where you can follow one team at a cheaper rate than buying it for all teams, I picked the 76ers.
Wiggins is a great player and a great scorer, we have seen Wiggins before, we have truly never seen someone like Embiid. I mean I literally spent 100 bucks to watch the dang 76ers play ball. Embiid is so much more than a great ball player with all of the skills you could dream up in a big man, however he is so much more when you think of his personality, his twitter account, diving into the stands every single night, choking out his own player after he made a game winner, dancing with cheerleaders. He has infected a whole city in a handful of games. He is talking about the playoffs and for some reason people are thinking, "you know what, maybe". Embiid is the most fun I have had watching the NBA since Jordan.
If you have not tuned into his games this year, you should. I will give you my sign in and password, he is fun to watch. He is a dominate scorer, defender and super competitive. He loves playing the game and is the best player on the court essentially every night, at 24 min a game, which recently was increased to 28. He shoots threes every game, crosses guys up when they close out and euro steps a floater like a point guard, He has great touch and has a swim move where he gets his man to foul him almost every time, The next play he drives to the bucket and dunks it like he is mad at someone. I love his game, and I love me some Embiid. In my honest opinion Embiid in 20 plus games already has had a better career than Embiid and more of an impact on his team and the NBA than Wiggins has had in 2 plus years.
Here is to hoping they both continue to dominate and hit free agency and play together!
@BeddieKU23 I said this to my wife, why is he not more mad?
12 years of success in the Big 12, 12 years of perfect sweetness, we had a recipe for success, defense and win ugly. The recipe has changed in Self's words, his worst defensive team and best offensive team. The recipe has changed, lets hope the dish doesn't taste too salty.
I think we win, but don't cover the spread. 8 point win, 78-70. I think we will see more effort on defense but will still struggle as its a process, but it is the beginning of our defense improving. Jackson won't get a technical, DG will shine on offense because he is bringing the heat on defense. Svi won't travel and will get called for it just to make up for the missed call. LL a double double and Bragg will show us his game from long range. Vick will lead us in steals and Mason will carry us again on offense.
I said this the other day, but I am very happy that Udoka is getting experience early. For the last 2 years with Diallo and Cliff we cried for them to get early season minutes that would pay off come conference time and March. We are getting our wish finally! I think this may have something to do with LL playing poorly/injured ankle but I will take it either way. Before the game the announcer said he isn't starting because of his numbers but his potential. In one game, granted against an inferior opponent Udoka had a better game than LL has put together in 3 plus years. We need LL to return to form, but I am very happy about these early season minutes for Udoka!!
JJ is our best back to the basket post player, at 6'8" he is the size of a lot of college big men, with his speed a big man won't be guarding him, I think we will see more and more of JJ getting the ball in the post, if I remember he had 3 or 4 shots from his post up position and was fouled twice in the post. I think he could be a nice way to get some post points and I look for him to get it more and more down there.
So...I thought the rule was when there is any contact to the head it is reviewed and a technical could be assessed, did I miss something? Because from what i saw, JJ took a swift punch to the face
Udoka is getting exactly what we wanted Diallo and some other freshman bigs to get in the past, playing time. With the lack of big men we have he gets a rare opportunity in Self's system to play through some mistakes and we will be better for it later in the year when it matters. I remember discussions almost every game about how we would be better off letting Diallo get playing time early so he could be better later, looks like we are getting our wish, just with a different player; in my opinion, a higher ceiling player in Udoka.
For those who say we beat Duke minus 3 MCD's AA, did they not still have 5 of them? We have 4 right?
