For those wondering if Cliff would declare after this season, ready or not. This is your answer.

Right before the Texa$ game. The same Texa$ that is big $$$$ for the N¢AA. Con$pira¢¥? Ya think???

@jaybate-1.0 : What you're saying is for Self to play the same height that Hoiberg and ISU ran last year with the 6'6" Ejim as their 5. Only difference I guess is that Ejim and Hogue, when they go with him at the 4,5, weren't/aren't scared to play tough and muscle with guys bigger/taller than they are. But I too think that would have been a good tactic against KsU.

Let's Talk Texas... • Feb 27, 2015 01:57 PM

@RockChalkinTexas : I don't think that's UT's lineup. Holmes is their 3 man. They have Lammert, Ibeh, Turner, and Ridley to lock down the 4-5.

Let's Talk Texas... • Feb 27, 2015 01:53 PM

I'd like to add that I'm glad Barnes is holding his player responsible for his actions, wait, Holmes is still projected to start?? And here I thought Barnes had more class.

Let's Talk Texas... • Feb 27, 2015 01:44 PM

@RockChalkinTexas If Kelly guards Yancey that puts Wayne on the larger Jonathan "Elbow" Holmes. Can Wayne stop the longer Holmes?

@wrwlumpy His parents must be proud!!!

@nuleafjhawk That's definitely the quickest and easiest way to solve this problem!

I put this over on Caption This but it's about Texas and this belongs in a kstate one thread. It's awesome that kstate fans act like this is their superbowl, just goes to show how envious they are. :)

Sorry my photoshop skills are bad on the laptop. It's too hard to trace using the mouse pad.

My question is this: does Barnes sit Holmes for his blatant elbowing Tuesday of William's face? Or was being disqualified from Tuesday's game punishment enough?

Do we root for Baylor tonight? • Feb 26, 2015 04:05 AM

Log jam right behind us. And we got two of those 10-5 teams still on our schedule. Ain't gonna be easy, boys better pack an extra lunch for these next three games.

@Shanghai_RCJH oh I don't know if I'm correct on that though. I know it happened during a game Imthis season. Figure it was isu though.

Nathan Power is the moron that physically assaulted Jamari. This is his pathetic letter to the Kansas St Paper:* “I want to take this moment to share a sincere apology in breaking from the Wildcat way and stepping outside what is acceptable in the spirit of the game. Following the basketball game I simply let my emotions get the best of me in all of the chaos. In my excitement I was not careful of the people I was around. I am sorry that I made the KU basketball team — Jamari Traylor in particular—feel disrespected. By no means can I change what took place but in the future I will be aware of how emotions can impact good judgment.” *

You're sorry for disrespecting Jamari and KUMBB team?? Come on, do better than that!! You purposefully struck with malicious intent an opposing teams player after the game in which you took absolutely no part in. Meaning you didn't need to be anywhere near that player. You obviously were looking to draw contact with somebody from the KU team, why else run toward their bench. Why else jump directly into Jamari's back? Nathan, your apologize sucks, just like you.

As for my take on our ADs take on this. It sucks as well. Actually SZ's take sucks more and harder. SZ, you need to take a stand for the KU players. If it's not for those KU players your ass would still be at whatever piss ant low major we got you from. You don't want to "pile on kstate right now"?? Yes, poor kstate. They inadequately protected those players YOU are responsible for protecting but don't pile on your former school, thier feelings might get hurt :(. Has BGL offered up anything. Maybe she has a bigger set than Sheahon and will stand up for her students.

Don't want to pile on....smh

Courtstorming • Feb 25, 2015 07:00 AM

@Shanghai_RCJH I thought ISU players motioned for their fans to not rush the court. In other words saying that they expected to win. Or was this another game, team or did I dream that?

Kubler-Ross model, stages of grief • Feb 25, 2015 01:28 AM

Losing record on the road in conference and an early con tourn exit will get us a low three or high four seed. Which is good because that puts us out of the uk bracket. It's bad because we are highly susceptible to upset with the wrong matchup. And don't think for one second that the selection jerks aren't drooling over the chance of canning a blue blood like us to make March madness a must watch. Happens every year.....

Courtstorming • Feb 24, 2015 10:14 PM

If I'm Jamari and KU Athletics I would file battery or Kansas Statute 21-3412. Seems like an open and shut case. KsU admin should ban the fan for life from all events as well. If that were a KU fan I'd be pissed off at that behavior. If that were my kid I'd kick his ass. There is obvious intent on making contact with Jamari.

Big12, all other conference (excluding SEC since they have their crap together), every sports association, ect should take this seriously. The SEC has a handle on it and we as the big12 are behind. Big shock!

@drgnslayr said:

This should be a game where we see Alexander and Gipson mix it up hard in the paint. My fear is that Gipson will quickly get Alexander in foul trouble because all teams that scout us know we don't practice fakes, and for that reason, we are the easiest team to draw fouls on using any kind of fake.

Bob Knight, is that you? Kidding aside. Why do we fall for the fake so often? And under utilize it?

TRob • Feb 23, 2015 11:04 PM

@Statmachine Well then that does make more sense. I thought Young was more of a PF but if they have him at the 3 that is a better deal for Thomas.

Upset Alert/Predictions • Feb 23, 2015 10:44 PM

@JayHawkFanToo more than likely that's the bird. Those birds eat all of the bird seed before any of the intended ones can get to our feeders.

@ralster : Maybe someone else can verify this: Self tweaked his knee during the summer between his Jr and Sr year during one of Larry Brown's KU Summer camp. Looks like his total pts were as follows: Sr year was 222, JR 212, SO 177, FR 76. Not sure how to find high school stats! (I could have messed up and misread a line or have a number wrong but those are close!)

Food for thought cyber friends: Self graduated in '85 and the 3 wasn't instituted until '87. Is this the reason why he has an aversion to the three ball? Just kidding. But seriously, is this the reason?

Upset Alert/Predictions • Feb 23, 2015 10:19 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Cow birds? I had a lot of them in my yard before all of this snow.

Upset Alert/Predictions • Feb 23, 2015 10:11 PM

@JayHawkFanToo @RockChalkinTexas What if someone gave me the bird on my way to work today? Is that a good or bad sign for our chances??

TRob • Feb 23, 2015 10:07 PM

@DCHawker Agreed. Seems odd to pick up a 10 day contract instead of staying on with Nuggets. I thought the asking for a buyout meant there were teams out there seriously wanting Thomas as a serviceable back up but I guess not? I mean, why else go for a buyout? I don't have the numbers but I'd venture a guess the remaining money on his contract (@REHawk stated 1.2million) is/was more than buyout + 10day contract dollars. Because wouldn't his 10 day contract or really any contract he signs at this point be for the league minimum and it would be pro-rated??

Caught this in Twitterland: 5 reported teams interested per some guys Twitter.... Thomas Robinson has had discussions with the Spurs, Nets, Suns, Heat and Hornets, completing DEN buyout Sunday, league sources tell RealGM.

All 5 are fighting for the last few playoff spots in their respective conferences so he's not going to the power houses but isn't at a cellar team either. Looking at the depth charts for all 5 I'm with you guys in that the Suns and Spurs are in more need of a PF than the Nets.

Do we know if the buyout not Thomas and Co. idea or was it the Nuggets that wanted to shed him instead??

This whole time I was trying to figure out who Josh Gibson was!! Ahh, Thomas Gipson. And yea I feel sorry for him, he's improved a lot over the past 4 years.

@KUSTEVE I don't expect us to win by 30. But what I don't want to see is our Jekyll/Hyde game. I know we're better than some of the showings, halves we've had when we lay eggs (18 point first half vs Baylor, 21 pt second half OSU in the L). Or at least I think we are better than those examples!

BTW: Vegas has us around 5 or 5.5 pt favorite now. I'd take a 5 pt win in the Hawk'tagon.

@ralster said:

Just a minor point about "throwing out the youth factor" is that KY returned at least 4 guys that played in the NC game and Final 4. Experience is a great teacher.

Are you agreeing with me on this?? Because I look at the youth factor and wonder..... how's UK overcome the lack of prior FF/NC/youth experience last season when they made their run with 4 freshmen leading in minutes played??? Keep in mind the only tourney experience that Stein & Poythress had prior to that was a NIT loss.

@betterfireE : Never realized TCU was good at d'ing the 3 but their stats do show that, touche. You KenPom? Which Big12 opponent held us to below 40%FG this season?? :Hint: We've played them twice and they held us under both games.

@wrwlumpy I hope my comments don't lead you to believe that I don't think Self is a good coach. Honestly I think we as Kansas fans are very fortunate to have him as our coach. He's a HoF'er, first balloter. But I'm not married to him so I just don't always have to agree with what he does. :grinning: And isn't this back and forth another fun part of being an arm chair point guard?

Fool's Gold • Feb 23, 2015 03:51 AM

@JayHawkFanToo An alternative to an ugly win could also be a decisive win. But that's not the exact opposite of an ugly win so its not catchy. Want to know who expected a decisive win? Vegas. And Bill. You didn't expect Tyler to play yesterday? BTW, thanks for the hx on the manager. I watched the game too. Read the KUSports piece as well. L

Do I think he had a better chance against UT or WVU?

Not sure why you ask this. Thought I made it clear that i figured BS felt TCU was Huey's best chance to log minutes so that's why he picked yesterday and not a later game.

Also you may want to check our original starting 5. (Traylor, Ellis, Greene, Selden, Mason). 2j 3so

@sfbahawk Not sure on @KUinLA hx of negativity here or in KUSports. I've seen some negative comments over in KUSports but I haven't a slightest clue who's who there. Maybe he's the Rodney guy. Or is he not negative? I don't follow their comments section. As for here I like that there are people that will question Self and his tactics. This is one of KUs best outside / worst inside shooting teams in the BS era.

Why not question why we don't run sets for our three ballers?

Anyone here think running a high low against UK or any L&A team is going to equal tourney success for us?

Fool's Gold • Feb 22, 2015 11:26 PM

@jaybate-1.0 sorry for my cyber bullying.

Fool's Gold • Feb 22, 2015 09:06 PM

Because a guy calls out Self we pile on him? Anyone here happy with that game yesterday? TCU at AFH is a game the walkons should be in playing with 3 minutes left. Hell, Bill himself thought that or he wouldn't have suited out a team manager! And if you think Bill didn't think that then why wouldnt Self suit out the manager for Senior night instead?!?

We, so nobody thinks I'm a troll, are actually 22-5. Jaybate, you a troll? Wouldn't a real fan know that? And we aren't the youngest team in America or a BCS school. USC, UK, Vandy, VaTech, and IU are all younger or just as young. UK is 26-0 so the young excuse can be dropped.

@wissoxfan83 : Here's the rule on Shot Clock Review: Officials can use video review to confirm a shot-clock violation or determine who caused the ball to go out of bounds on a deflection involving two or more players in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime.

Buyout from Denver to seek better opportunity with another club. I'm guessing his agent has an idea of what he's doing. Read the article about the buyout in the Portland paper. Thomas is loved up in Portland by the team and the fans. Lots of fans hoping he resigns with them. Here's to hoping he can get picked up by a team that uses him and doesn't just have him ride the pine.

Rewatched final few seconds. Obvious travel. Refs almost always swallow whistles at the end of the game. "Got to let them play" is what most puns"idiots" would say. I say call the first 39:50 like you call the last 10 seconds. (And they did just that! Bias wvU)

Agree with the part of wvU avg of fouls dropping off too. Seems odd that they cleaned up their play for one night. I commented on that during the live chat. Did officials go away from the emphasis on hand checks and grabs that killed us and others all of last year???

Ken is so great he has both iSu and oU losing their matchup! Man I wish that prediction were correct Mr Nostradamus

Kansas @ WVU Chat • Feb 17, 2015 03:35 AM

Interesting stat: the last five games WVU is avg 24 fouls per game and have out fouled all but one of the past 5 opp. Tonight they have 9 total. Guess who's leading in fouls though.

Kansas @ WVU Chat • Feb 17, 2015 03:23 AM

When do they start calling hand checks, holds, arm bars, and grabs both ways?

Anyone catch this brilliance from Keegs?

6 - Villanova: When Villanova defeated Kansas, 63-59, in the Bahamas, the outcome was painted as a stunner. But the reality is ‘Nova has been a better team than Kansas the past two seasons, posting a 52-7 record. Kansas has played a tougher schedule, but also has lost twice as many games.

Is Keegs aware that was last year? If you rank a team on what they did last year Michigan, Michigan St. and UConn all need to be moved up Keegs

My wife and I just turned down the volume after the stupidity irked us enough. Think it was right after the "worst flop ever". My response was "dougie, your precious Smart is the most prolific flopper of all time. Might end up in the Hall for it. Or get an Emmy."

From KUSPORTS article last June: kusports ↗

Roster limits

KU will be able to take a roster of 12 players on the trip. Because of the uncertainty of one-and-done players these days, that might leave a couple of holes.

However, because the World University Games are open to players 18-to-25, (born between Jan. 1, 1990 and Dec. 31, 1997), Self said he could fill his roster with former Jayhawks who fell in that age range.

“We could potentially take ex-players as long as they’re enrolled in a class,” Self said. “If our roster is 12 that would not be an option, but if our roster is 10, we could literally have tryouts of ex-KU players to see who best fits our team to give us a better chance to have success over there.”

No Mykhailiuk

Because the Jayhawks will be representing the United States, no foreign-born players will be allowed to join the Jayhawks in Korea.

That means no roster spot for KU newcomer Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, who hails from the Ukraine and is expected to report to campus later this summer.

“Sviatoslav will be playing with his Ukrainian team,” Self speculated. “If you’re not American-born you’re not eligible to play for the USA Team. If you were to look at one negative, that would be the one negative, that we could not have our entire group of guys together, potentially, but that’s a very minor thing.”

Funding

KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger said the cost of the trip would be split between KU Athletics and Basketball Travelers, Inc., which helped select the Jayhawks.

Regardless of the final bill, Zenger said the opportunity to have KU, both as a university and a basketball program, represent the country in something as special as an international event was well worth it.

“We’re all so proud of our history and tradition here, and this just allows us to put that out there on the world stage,” Zenger said.
