Is it just me, or does anyone else think that when Enaruna gets real PT that he not only can but does contribute?
Is it just me, or does it seem to everyone that when Enaruna gets true PT that he contributes on both ends? I wish Bryce a speedy recovery.
Time for this nation to start living again, and stop worrying so much about dying. I mean, for real, is it a real deal? Yeah. But so is being so paranoid about doing anything that we forget what life really is even as we concentrate on staying alive.
Call me naive, but after reading the article I still think that it bodes quite well for Kansas. But as I have said before, I do not believe that it was a good defense for KU to, basically, say that everyone is doing it, so.... Their added defense now has to be, what else were we supposed to say. For real, that is what it now has to be. Will we receive penalties? No doubt we will. But it will not and cannot due to the NCAA and committee not wanting to let out all of the worms nationwide be too severe.
If we get to the 2nd weekend of the dance this year, I would be ecstatic. That we are not going to win the conference I think is pretty obvious, with three or four losses we will come in second. Agree with @BShark, definitely need another scoring ballhandling guard next year. Agree with @jayballer67 too, hard to really get into any sports right now, just difficult to watch.
@jayballer67 pretty accurate analysis. Like I said (and I like our team) before the season got going, this team is going to have troubles scoring and will even struggle defensively at times.

I love Braun, maybe my favorite player on the team but he is still a young player. I guess we forget he is a new starter sometimes as well. The way this team is set up Braun has to play well or things sputter.
And that is high praise (and I upvote your post) for Braun. The team flows when he is on his game. When not, well...

Epic comeback from West Virginia. Down 19 early 2nd half. Up 4 with just over 2 to play..
Huge win for Huggy
@jayballer67. It was a huge win for Huggy, and I caught your earlier post - days ago, after we beat them up - about how they'll body up on us the next meeting. Then I thought you were right, but not now - WVU is (this win aside) in trouble. And (does anyone know?) how many tranfers/players quitting has Huggins had the past three years? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to be quite a few.
@drgnslayr said in Tshiebwe:
I agree with you. I just don't know that the answer is with Universities handling these players different. I think there needs to be an earlier intervention.
The dynamics are different; cultural differences, communication/language issues, distance from family, handlers, level of desperation.
We are focusing on African athletes, but I bet some of these problems go broader to other places, too.
It seems like the NCAA... instead of spending a fortune on busting schools like Kansas... they should focus attention, money and resources on a quality program that will address the issues unique to foreign players.
How many of these players have handlers? Answer.... 100%.... because they are not brought to America by their parents or are in America living with their parents. Their entire well-being starts (and usually ends) with handlers. Guess what handlers want?
That is what everybody (including all of us) wants, money. But, maybe the NCAA and universities should not focus on African athletes at all, but instead on American and or qualified others? I mean, let's be real, some of these guys - and I'm a huge Doke fan, but that aside - can't even speak English, let alone be legit school wise.

@BShark what Nike school was Udoka bound for before we intercepted?
FSU. They helped bring him over and let's just say Hamilton is a strong ass recruiter.
Hamilton is also one of Self's biggest mentors as Self was hired at OSU by Hamilton when Hamilton got the OSU job.
I'm sure Hamilton took that real real well, huh? To @Texas-Hawk-10 's point though, I agree. You better be ready to get downight and almost even right out in the open sleazy if you want an African player. Makes you wonder how much Fitch paid for Olajuwan back in the day?
Yeah, I was just thinking the other day about how lucky we were and how we could have done a hell of alot worse than Coach Self when we were replacing Roy - like every other candidate kind of worse.
I have never liked Cal, nor his infatuation of loading his roster with mostly OADs - fielding an entirely new team every year. It is finally biting him in the ass.
I don't think with six losses already (and I realize they were non-conference) that they will win their conference, let alone make the tournament.

Saw that Calipari was crying today, basically whining about how he had made a mistake by scheduling so many tough games. What do they have, 7 or 8 or 9 McDonald's All-Americans and yet are 1-6?
@Texas-Hawk-10 I hear you. I wasn't really talking about Garrett and Lightfoot, just about the declaration in general.

@Bosthawk In theory yes, but it's doubtful Garrett will choose that option.
I don't see how either of them could. If Cuffe reclassifies we're already one over the scholarship limit. They would still count as scholarships, right?
Read my initial response. A situation with either Garrett or Lightfoot returning next year would more than likely involve them paying their own way. That's not an option that makes sense for Garrett because he'll have his degree and be playing pro ball somewhere next season.
Mitch Lightfoot on the other hand while still not very likely to return has a higher % than Garrett. Lightfoot doesn't have a pro future in basketball, already in grad school and should finish up his master's degree in 2022. There's a plausible scenario where Mitch gets enough academic scholarships to cover his costs for next season and comes back in something like a hybrid GA/player-coach role to go mentor the incoming big men because Lightfoot screams future coach with his love and passion for the game.
Mitch coming back on academic scholarships means he'd be a walk on officially and not count against the 13 player limit.
I understand, but there's the rub, grant them an extra year of eligibility as long as they pay their own way... That is (loophole) unless they decide to tansfer elsewhere.
By the way, has anyone noticed not just his outside shot, but Braun's D?
Look at UK now and they've got going on.
And we can win with those kinds of guys too. I'll take a Braun or Wilson over a Vick or Silvio any day of the week.
@wissox nicely done.
@COHawk I don't think he played.

How good was Dave tonight? Well Mitch played 8 minutes and KU was -9 while Mitch was out there. Best game I've seen Dave play just in the sense of how under control he looked. Made a lot of good passes. Hopefully this continues..
I totally agree, Dave showed up. He looked poised, and played within the flow of the game.
Merry Christmas everyone! Be safe.
Impressive game by the Jayhawks tonight.
I take that Dave comment back, he has 10 point. But I love how active he is tobight.
Dave showed up tonight, playing pretty well. Not scoring, but doing other things.
Agbaji's game has come a long way this year.
Braun is on tonight.

That's kinda what I was alluding to with my general discussion post. Calipari totally slammed the guy publicly.

@jayballer67 I appreciate the positives you're spelling out with Marcus. My question is this: is it possible to have Marcus and Dave on the floor while telling the team that Jalen, Ochai and Braun are the primary options? I think def in Marcus case I want him on the floor if he is off ball and more a facilitator on offense. In Dave's case, he's not a good defender but he's still better on that side than O. Does anyone have an insider perspective on this other than what we seem to be observing with the offensive shot selection? And regarding how Marcus is bringing up ball when on the floor with Harris. It seems Self is letting the team decide who brings up ball and who shoots, a lot.
very true I would love to have Marcus play - -OFF the ball, but I just don't think this year that can/will happen very often, not sure why. - Let Harris take the point - let Marcus be HIS back up on the point. - nothing wrong with have t2 ball handlers on the floor but I just think Marcus is pressing playing point. - -Just does to many other things to reduce his minutes though - -just not sure what the answer is
That what I was saying, he is pressing.
@jayballer67 I was joking you.
Kentucky is in trouble, and Gonzaga is here to stay no doubt, loading up on recruits now.
I've never heard a coach say such a thing, not so in your face and public anyway. Am I wrong? Fletcher must be a piece of work. What did he do?
... Basically, publicly telling him to get the hell out of the Kentucky program. Damn, he must be a hell of a nice guy if even Calipari is drawing the line and refusing to kiss his ass.
God, I hope he reclassifies, we need him next year. If we had him next season along with the others coming in and who we have coming back, even if Agbaji goes pro, I'm stoked.
@jayballer67 so, you put your money on WV huh?
@tis4tim Garrett is a solid player, but not a fulltime PG - the offense stalls. He was great last year, but Dotson was the point. Garrett is forcing things this year, and it isn't working.
@BShark said in Emperor Of Basketball Game Thread:
Garrett unfortunately will never lose minutes. I like Garrett but him getting closer to 28 minutes a game would be better for him and the team.
More like about 23 a game, if not 20. He doesn't score, and this team needs points. Harris doesn't score either, but he atleast helps others do so. It seems that this season Garrett is too worried about getting off his own shots, and it is hurting his game and the team.
@approxinfinity said in Emperor Of Basketball Game Thread:
I want Dave to be better at basketball. I won't pretend to know much about Dave off the court. What I know is what I see on the court. He could have a big heart in real life. I don't know. But his style of play, which is surely both the product of his own capacities as well as what coaches dictate, is sticky and unenjoyable to watch. I'm sure my opinion would change if it was much more effective. I would have felt the same way about Doke's play if he couldn't make shots, back when he didn't rebound or defend well.
So, I'd like to say that I don't want Dave to transfer, I certainly don't want him to out of spite. But I want him to be happy with his role and I don't want his game as it currently stands to have a prominent role on this team.
Okay, but if he did transfer you wouldn't be sad, right?

Sounds like he plans to be here for awhile. "That's the next four years of my life".
OH BShark buddy/Dude - what an awesome post thread from ya buddy. I REALLY appreciate that. makes me appreciate you and the things you share that much more.
Here is my take from that. 1st I usually form an opinion pretty quick and once it's formed hard to change. The 1st thing I take from this is - -loves his family , seems like very level headed kid Seems like the whole family is just a very caring loving family
Hard work ethic , works hard loved the section of his work outs dedicated to getting better - di ya all catch the part about running steps up and down the 25 stories ? - holy jumpin -- gee - - hossie - - fats . a kid like that always wanting to work hard make something for his future - -coming out or from surrounding Harlem -just loved the whole video he put together - -very well done
Ol Coach saying he was on pins & Needles lol - -dam loved this video , might watch again lol again love his work ethic from what I saw - -not a lot of this flashy hi-lite reel where it's just a dunk fest - more down to earth family/working out/ his culture/growing up things like that - - - AND he is now a Jayhawk - - best part.
Now here is the thing call me stupid whatever but another of my 1st takes on this - you know who Kyle kind of reminds me of personality wise lighting up the room Smiling and such ? - - just my take - -kind of reminds me a little of Devonte Graham sure do , - -oh ya I think I'm gonna love this guy- - Gonna love him a lot gonna be a baller - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY - -Thanks again BShark
Agree about @BShark. @wissox and @FarmerJayhawk and @BeddieKU23 @approxinfinity and everyone else. You too @jayballer67
@BShark gotcha. What I like about the three of them though is that all three are inside players with handles. It is going to be nice to have some muscle inside too. Hopefully Gethro develops and can fill in at the 5 and 4. I was trying to imagine Curry with an outside shot playing occasionally as a mismatch 3 😂!
@BShark said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:
@Marco Hard to say. Curry is still unranked but was a great coup by the staff. He will probably end up a 3*. If Cuffe ends up in 21 more than the ranking I'm thrilled they added 4 really good players. A lot of athleticism there, and multi-year guys.
That video is a good watch for insight into Cuffe. Great kid.
Clemence as a stretch 5/4? Adams as an inside/out hybrid, and Curry as a total nightmare and huge load at the 3? Not a bad combo. If Cuffe reclasses, wow. So you see Curry as a 3?
Curious where this class is going to be ranked. I think it's possibly Coach and staff's most impressive and important recruiting effort. Hoping that he reclassifies.
Wow, huge get.

Well, call most everyone on this site myopic then.
@BShark I would be all for that too, him coming off the bench. But something tells me he won't be comfortable doing that after starting this year.
