Hope this offseason all positions are recruited and no position is safe.
It might actually be preferred to be a #2 in the ~~Midwest (Detroit)~~ South (Dallas) vs a #1 farther from home though.
I disagree that they have zero chance at a one seed. The chances are very small and very unlikely but there is a scenario where it could happen. If they play like they did last night the rest of the way and win convincingly over Houston then stack a few more great wins in the Big 12 tourney, Iowa St and Houston again. They would be 3-0 against Houston, Beat Tennessee, Beat UConn, Beat Kentucky, and probably have the most Q1 wins in the country. Committee could definitely consider the KM injury to minimize some of the losses. Couple all this with bad showings from others looking to get the #1s by early losses in their tournaments, I definitely think it is not a zero chance. Though, its not much higher than zero, lol.
Any researchers out there want to look up the most losses a #1 seed has ever had? Curious to know that answer.

@kuballin10 it's time to recruit over KJ.
He won't recruit over Dajuan at all obviously. I think you can build a great team around one of them, not both. And realistically KJ IS a center.
Personally, I wish he would recruit over DH if he had to pick one of the two.
I don't buy the tired legs theories out there. These are young men in their primes. They only play two games per week! Come on. If this is really an issue with this team then they need a better strength and conditioning program.

It is what it is.
This team isn't going anywhere without Kev and the effort game to game this late in the season is so disappointing. Guys looked gassed after 3 days off and a week prior.. BYU shoots the 3 and certainly didn't guard them well. We continue to miss shots that should go down.
This was a team loss but Hunter let his team down last night. You can't miss 9 free throws
A lot of this stems from poor play and leadership from the PG position. Its obvious to me and I know its not a popular opinion here, if people step back and take off their Jayhawk tinted glasses its not hard to see. There are intangibles that aren't measured in stats but show up on how well an offense runs or how energy/effort is contagious to the rest of the team. He is a senior! Come on, have we all lowered our expectations this far to think this is acceptable play from a multiple year starter, Senior PG at Kansas??
@DanR said in Other bball games:
I hope they ban it while the visiting team is still on the court/field. The players and coaches deserve a chance to shake hands and exit. That's a good tradition too. If the home team wants to run out to midcourt and jump around with students after that, go for it.
And enforce the ban by forfeiting the game. Not going to hurt KU at all, LOL.
This doesn't work. All KU has to do is send a handful of fans to every away game dressed in the other team's clothes and if they lose those fans storm the court too fast and would just give them the win. They would never lose a game! Ha. Not saying they would do it but its not a solution that would work.
Banning is rarely the answer. People get hurt all the time in life and they can all be labeled as 'preventable' if you ban whatever caused the injury. Its a lame and brainless approach to solving what is usually a non-problem. Nobody can prevent all injuries. I do think it is reasonable to expect the colleges to implement a better system for escorting players off of the court before allowing fans on the court.
There was a quote last night from one of the announcers that said they talked to coach about the roster and in particular how thin it was or its makeup and coach's response was "Never Again" will he go into a season with a roster like this. It stuck out to me and made me think he is going to be extra motivated, even more than normal, to put together a dynamite roster each year going forward. Did anyone else catch this comment? Wanted to make sure I heard that right.
No doubt Juan has the better hardware compared to the others. But nobody is really saying they'd rather have him than a first team all american (or second team for Dotson). Right? I love this team and support them like crazy but i'm not just a blind homer. Juan has some big games here and there but reality is that there are also many limitations he has that the team has to overcome to win. He's the best we have though so we have to support him as our guy.
In addition to the stepping out of bounds in the NC, didn't he also get a 10 second call on him as he slowly walked the ball up with no pressure on him?
Hate complaining about the refs but we had a lot of bad calls go against us in the late part of the game. It definitely makes a difference, even just on momentum which is a huge thing. The foul on Hunter during the trap that the announcers were saying was a bit of a stretch followed very closely to the out of bounds call where they said Juan touched it but clearly didn't. The lane violation was another. It adds up.
Regarding Juan - if he was more of a scoring threat it would open up the rest of the team. Whether it be on drives or pulling defender out farther on the three point line. Stats are one thing but using the eye test there are many times i'm critical of him. Some bad turnovers. Drives where the shots are nowhere near close to going in off the backboard. Even Mason had his rough years with wild drives and suspect turnovers but he grew tremendously over the years and eliminated much of that. With how many years Juan has been in this role I would have expected a lot of this would be better than it is.
I can't wait for the day we have a scoring PG again. I know everyone loves Juan but the truth is he limits us so much. I just don't see whats so great. He did take a nice charge though. That was one thing I had thought was lacking this year, didn't see many people taking charges like in prior years. KM was good for taking 3-4 per game last year it felt like, maybe he is too big time now?
Praying our next PG is in the mold of a Mason, Graham, Dotson type.
He is allergic to nerds.
Nah. Nick is definitely capable of better than how he has played thus far. Whatever the reason, P5 adjustments, good ol' fashioned slump, etc, I think the best way to break out of it is to keep playing him and try and boost some confidence. Giving his minutes to Jank would be an even bigger hit to the confidence. We will need him this year, hopefully he can get right soon.
@Texas-Hawk-10 you can see the future now? How do you know that would happen? You don't and neither does the dumb committee. The Michigan/Iowa game was eerily similar to the FSU/Louisville game watching both. FSU's defense is better than any of the teams in the playoff.
I actually think FSU would beat Michigan, I'm a huge FSU fan and my dad is a huge Michigan fan, watched them both very closely through the year.

I'm not worried about Lance going anywhere , like was said --he stated that Girod & Geoff had treated him & his family extremely well and they loved Lawrence, and on top of that a big factor you have to consider is AGE. Lance is in his 60's and pretty sure sounds like he is ready to settle and not just keep jumping around. He likes it here and wants to stay here
He was on another podcast and said unfortunately this time of year your going to hear a lot of rumors and they are just not true
Damn - if jayballer thinks he is staying then that's just more evidence that he will likely leave! :grinning_squinting_face: . :man_facepalming:
Also, another correction: Lance is 59 years old.

I would love it and hope its true. However the reality is there is this green paper stuff that in large quantities makes minds change in a hurry.

@mayjay I like the thought of KU in the Rose Bowl. No insult, but I do find some of those projections right now to be a lack of respect for KU football . I kind of understand that of course in some respects but this team has earned some respect this season, don't you think? And no self respecting football team should ever feel good about being invited to the Pop Tart Bowl.
I read this while eating a Pop Tart. lol! I hope us KU fans don't start putting our noses up like we're too good for certain bowls. Lets go play the game we get selected for, which will be a good one, and win it! I fear we could sink back into the doldrums once we lose a few key players and possibly our coach. Coach is being talked about for other job openings out there, would really suck to lose him after the progress that has been made.
May be a bit of a longshot but how interesting it would be to face Mizzou in a bowl game this year!
Heard this morning on the radio from a reporter that Bill Self is looking slim and trim. Also that he had broken a few ribs a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it happened playing around with grandkids? After last year, I'm really hoping we have a full health team AND a full health coach to give us the best chances to put another national championship trophy in our case.

@BeddieKU23 What’s your definition of chode? Around these parts it’s synonymous with taint or abc if you prefer. Nebraskans call it chode when a certain appendage is bigger around than long. And I’m sure there are others, thus my curiosity.
Girth >/= Length
Hoping they catch Texas looking ahead to the OU game and somehow find a way to escape with a huge win this week. Would be massive.
@jayballer67 Here we go again. No, us fans don't know anything for certain what these kids are thinking. Visiting to see what KU is all about certainly can't hurt if he is someone that coach believes would make our team better.
A lot of chatter for Arizona being the next team to pop for the Big12. Would be a great addition. Assuming that they are the next domino to fall, it will be super interesting to see what happens with OR, WA, UU, & ASU. If two more go to the Big12 then I think the PAC is dead. If they stay they can hold on a bit longer until OR & WA leave which they have made pretty clear they are trying to do - i.e. get into the BIG. They think they are in strong consideration for the next group to get in but that may not be accurate. So who really knows what will happen. Going to be exiting to follow. And I admit, I'm cheering for the collapse of the PAC.
Can we rename this thread please? lol
I haven't been to many games but by far the best was 2016 OT Win against Kentucky. The 3 pointer that Selden made in the corner with less than a minute left to take the lead was nuts. The place was so loud and I'm so glad I was there to see it.
Why don't people with huge salaries just hire a personal driver? Especially if they think they might be out partying. I get not wanting to hop into an Uber but geez, seems so obvious to me.
I follow this stuff super closely. In general, here's where I think things stand:
1) SDSU does not have a P5 invite yet. This game of musical chairs is all hinging on the PAC12 media deal negotiations and where that lands. Unfortunately for SDSU they can't wait much longer. They are coming up on a deadline at the end of June where their conference exit fee basically doubles. They tried to buy more time with their letter but failed. They may just exit and become independent, its a gamble that they eventually get a PAC invite. It seems likely to me that they join the PAC.
2) Yormark has said he wants the conference to span all four time zones. I think he has a list of schools and plans for possible additions. He has stated multiple times that additions need to be additive to the conference and be a fit culturally. I tend to agree that Big 12 should avoid california schools too as @dylans states above but if there was one that might be ok its SDSU, they are the closest aligned culturally i think. Its a risk though considering the state could decide to ban travel to other states they disagree with again.
3) Its a waiting game for the PAC schools to see what the deal is that they get before much happens. I think eventually Colorado joins the BIG12 and Yormark wants a second school to pair. Thats why we see talk of UCONN, Memphis, SDSU, etc. where they are searching for who would be that best second school if say Arizona doesn't come along with Colorado. The problem is, someone like UCONN is likely not 'additive' and someone that increases the conference's per school value.
4) Down the line when the ACC crumbles there will be some teams to scoop up there as well. All the talk about PAC dying may end up with no movement at all, its definitely a possibility.
Always believed there was a legit chance of this happening, made too much sense. Glad the door was able to remain open long enough for this to happen! Rock Chalk!!

Ok let's say this ALL together lol - -KEVIN IS NOT I repeat- - NOT COMING BACK - -there now don't you feel better lol
This didn't age well.
Imagine there is great value in those all-american level college players that are not NBA prospects might be the most sought after guys. You can get multiple years on elite level players.
A 'down year' for Kansas is what, a 4 seed? lol We sure are spoiled.
Yuck - bad news. Is there a chance this was just a hedge in case that last spot was going to get filled by another big? Wasn't time running out to get your name into the portal? Zuby specifically said he wouldn't rule out returning to KU. Udeh was the perfect fit, would have gotten plenty of minutes for a typical sophmore big at KU and could develop under a HOF coach, Elite program, be the likely favorite for a championship, collect a premium NIL compared to most places, etc. I'm very surprised by this one.
One of my all-time favorite Jayhawks was Kevin Young. I see a lot of similarities between the role that KY had and what KJ could be. Young managed just fine playing alongside Withey.

Wait... are you seriously suggesting that what he did was appropriate? How would you feel if Bill said that? It's not just a bad word my man, it's a slur being used to attack a group of people. His statement was ignorance at best and malice at worst...
Thank you for proving my point, that was way easier than I thought. You suggesting I said what he did was appropriate is an extreme twisting of words against me. Just like society is going to do to Huggins. 80% of the headlines I read this morning say he said a "homophobic slur." Luckily they haven't changed the definition of 'phobia' yet, it still means "an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear of a certain object, situation, or activity." Sounds to me like Huggins was trying to do some ribbing towards a rival school and had a bad word choice. He has always seemed like a bit of a jerk and this incident supports that even more. However, if could have just added some music to the background when he said it and called himself a music artist and then he could have literally said anything and it would be considered acceptable by society. There is nothing off limits for the music industry, in fact its considered "art."
Here we go.. someone said a bad word, thank god we have so many social justice warriors able to come to the rescue of all us fragile people that cant handle it and make sure this bad person is punished as if he is the flesh and blood of satan himself.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I dunno, the eye test sure tells me Udeh is better than Zuby. Stats can be misleading sometimes and this might be one of those times. Consider this, a lot of Zuby's minutes were early season against non-con schedule, some much easier opponents there that skew the numbers. 7 Rebs against ND St, 5 against Texas So. He did have 5 rebs against Duke which is great but also two TOs. Udeh logged 4 Blocks that Duke game! Many of Udeh's minutes were in the heart of conference schedule and much tougher competition.
I'm not great at posting links but there is a great video on his twitter. Shows when he told Self the news.
Boom!
Hunter could be for two years, right?
I dont think anybody likes the stuff that is out there about him off the court. However i find it odd how some people will despise him even if he becomes the charitable man of the year every year he is here. Meanwhile, same people can look past Jalen’s DUI, Marcus Morris’ bar fight (could have also had a misdemeanor assault charge as a result), and celebrate when Braun stares down an opponent and yells “fcking btch” on live tv.
I like this move a lot. Just the action of picking KU/Self shows some maturity because everyone knows Bill wont mess around if he messes up again. Plus we only really know the story in the media which certainly isnt his version. Somewhat low risk, super high reward. Go hawks.
Not trying to put words in his mouth but what I think he is trying to say is that he isn't KU level good. Player rankings are always changing and usually KU is linked to players that end up climbing way up the rankings as they get closer to college. It sounds like CJ is expected to go the opposite way pretty drastically. There can be a lot of reasons for it happening but it just is what it is.
Its not all that different from say an elite college accepting an early applicant and then the student stops trying, skips out on school frequently for the beach, etc. and grades drop bad the last semester. I have heard stories of colleges pulling their acceptance in examples like this.
All I'm trying to say is better athlete doesn't equate to better basketball player. Wasn't directing anything at you.
I sometimes think the 'athleticism' component is being a bit overrated. Wasn't MJ Rice some elite athlete?
He looked pretty athletic to me based off of his highlights.
Yeah i just saw a tweet saying Cryer to Houston. Could really use some good news soon.
Sounds like Kansas will host UCONN next year in the Big East/Big 12 challenge
See we are in the final 5 for Jamille Reynolds. Havent heard much about this guy.
I missed the first bit, did he say officially what the medical issue was?
