@Marco Adams as in the new coach at TT
He’s giving waaay too much credit to TT. L
OMFG. 8 on 5
These officials…. Wtf
Am I the only one screaming at my tv
can I just say that I really loathe these games on ESPN+ .. I'm getting off my cable plan soon. It has sucked the last few years to pay for premium cable and not get games.

Happy New Year all!
Let's go today and start the year with a win!
As long as there's a significant population of unvaccinated petrie dishes out there within which the virus can mutate, we'll be in this pickle.
This country invented the vaccines and has unprecedented access to the vaccine. Yet, we are currently #19 in the world after steadily falling from #2 in the world on May 23. (source: https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=2021-12-16&facet=none&pickerSort=asc&pickerMetric=location&Metric=People+vaccinated+%28by+dose%29&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=ARE~PRT~CUB~CHL~ESP~SGP~KHM~URY~KOR~CAN~CHN~IND~USA~IDN~PAK~BRA~NGA~BGD~RUS~MEX~JPN~ETH~PHL~EGY~VNM~TUR~IRN~DEU~THA~GBR~FRA~TZA~ITA~ZAF~KEN~OWID_WRL) ↗
I realize even if the US was 100% vaccinated, if the rest of the world was not vaccinated, the mutations would continue... but still, we're not exactly leading by behavior.
Nice! How did I miss this?

Not sure if that game helped anything in the long run
Every win helps us edge closer to Kentucky's all time wins.
Wilson hasn't looked very good thus far. I'm pretty sure he'll come around and Dave looked better vs St Johns. Just a matter of time before all the cylinders are in sync. When that happens, we should be able to compete with any team on any night.
I'm so tired of the SEC taking 2 slots in the BCS. 50% chance of the championship every year it seems.
Maryland is an Under Armor school -- The Under Armor school (the founder is a Terrapin). Danny should be able to get some recruiting support.
Terrible officiating is back
Here’s the press @KirkIsMyHinrich
Agree Braun is great but still think Agbaji is best. Remy appears to have been most valuable addition.
Officiating is not as manipulative so far.
I know. I’m sour grapes about yesterday’s game. From the clock discrepancy to the no calls and crappy calls, I’m tired of the officials orchestrating games to be close.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yep.. I agree. National Championships are a measuring stick. I just wouldn't want to say it's the only measuring stick.
Some other considerations:
There are 350 NCAA division I basketball teams. And there are 30 NBA franchise teams. Teams in either one may start with the goal of winning a championship, but just by virtue of numbers, the likelihood of a team winning is 1:350 vs 1:30.
Professional teams have a singular goal and direct 100% of their resources toward that goal. Colleges have fewer resources and they are not 100% invested in their basketball program. Yet, there are 11 NBA teams (36%) that have never won a title despite the fact that every one of them is 100% dedicated to winning a title every year. By my count, there are 37 schools that have won at least one basketball title since 1939. 15 NCAA teams have won multiple national championships (which is the category we are in.)
I'm not saying we should not strive to win another and another. We should.
But we should appreciate what it takes (great talent, great coaching, etc. and at least a modicum of luck, among other things.) You can't win a NCAA championship if you aren't in the tournament and Kansas has the 3rd most NCAA tournament appearances all time. So we are putting ourselves in position to have a chance to win.
That said, I think this is really where the perception of underachieving germinates.
While our tournament performance is good, we don't have as many championships as the other schools at the top of NCAA appearances:

Who's 47
This is the best question for the best game of the last decade!
Every Jayhawk will know his name now!
The Villanova - UCLA game was a gem. High-level play. A long string of made shots by both teams in the second half. Fun. Outstanding for this time of the year.
Yeah, I think it's pretty easy to find evidence that would suggest that Coach Self is one of the top 5 active coaches.
No coach is perfect. That means there's always something that could be improved. And that means there is always something we can critique about Self's coaching.
Some years, it's recruiting. Some years it's his decisions on who's starting. Some years it's his stubbornness to go inside out, or whatever.
Jay Wright has more NCs than Bill in about the same amount of time. Mark Few has fewer NCs. All three are excellent, and they have their strengths and weaknesses.
Anyway, I think it's good to bring these observations to the community's consciousness but, like all things, keep it in perspective.
I realize that's still leaves plenty to be debated. For some, perspective is colored by counting National Championships (which I think we all agree is the ultimate goal). Others' perspective is colored by a variety of outcomes, including national titles, as indicators of success.
Personally, my perspective is colored by the latter. However, I'll admit that I am occasionally frustrated by the lack of NCs.
Then I just remind myself, enjoy the journey.
I respect OU. Even when it was Neb and OU dominating the big 8, we tended to play better against OU and they tended to show better sportsmanship than Neb.
One of these days, we will be competitive again. I will especially enjoy the next time we beat OSU at Stillwater after this game.
I didn't think it was possible, but the commentators actually made it worse.
I know OU was not playing their best by a long shot, but it sure was nice to see our team having some success against a conference opponent for a change. I hope this gives the program a boost that carries over into the next few years and the core talent sticks around to reap the rewards.
@wissox said in Huggins wants to, basically, destroy the NCAA basketball tournament:
I’m convinced we’d have won several more championships if his idea had been the norm but I agree it’s a bad idea.
Yes. The one that really comes to mind is Northern Iowa.. That KU team was a very, very good and just got blitzed by an insane shooting effort.
By the way, maybe we should remind Huggy that there's already the Champion's classic every year. Just add another game for the winners and we'll have solution. I wonder how he'd like the 25% chance of a title that would give KU every year.
What a mess of a league.
I wonder why he wants that? Seems pretty antithetical to the most intriguing principle -- that any team making the field of 68 could win the Natl Championship.
Of course, if conference realignment continues to its logical conclusion, we'll have 4 super conferences with 16 teams each.... and that will effectively lead to Huggins' grand vision.
I wonder if the staff created an NIL recruitment program that is sufficiently competitive with those considering to go pro/g league.
"You can now make money either way... Why not come to the cathedral for a year, kick off your sponsorship business here as well as your basketball career?"
Would Self ever implement the 'platoon' strategy? Two teams of 5, swapping out and exploiting different weaknesses and wearing teams down?
To clarify, I'm sure he would mix and match, but with 10 capable players perhaps he could develop some units and keep everyone playing at a peak.
Is anyone watching tonight and will to share observations?
But, are we going to be good this year (regional final good)?
So many new pieces to the puzzle... I just don't know whether to be excited or temper my expectations this year.
I don't think MU, CU, Neb or A&M would return to the B12. I think the move was a clear win for CU in almost every way. Nebraska won't leave. It would be unprecedented for the B10 to boot them, and that's the only way they would leave. MU and A&M might have some motivations to leave the SEC (like A&M to flip the bird to Texas one more time), but there is no better financial situation for them anywhere, so that idea is just a muse.
I don't see many of the current/new B12 schools as targets for a power4 conference with the exception of KU and WVU (and maybe ISU). A case could be made that these two (or three) fit naturally into a P4 conference geographically, culturally and/or academically. The ones that just moved up to the B12 are not going to get a whiff at the P4. The remainders (OSU, KSU, TT, TCU, Baylor) don't have a chair in the P4.
If I had to guess, here's what I think will happen (BTW, I haven't really been right about how any of this has actually gone down, so this probably won't be reality, but hey, it's fun to speculate!):
First, KU will sit tight and let the new B12 stabilize. For the next couple years, despite the weak football program, KU will have an opportunity to be the esteemed leader of the conference. A few years later, when the TV contracts come up for renewal, KU (and maybe one or two others) should have an opportunity explore a possible exit. Depending on how lucrative the contract is for the new B12, KU will have to decide whether to be a big fish in a little pond, or move to and become a little fish in a big (but more stable and more lucrative) pond. If KU leaves (and I think they should if they can), at least some of the remaining B12 will merge with the Mountain West, which has 11 members right now.
With all of that transition, the B12/MountainWest will lose its status as a power conference. Nearly all of the P4 conferences will have 16 teams and can easily form a balanced elite college league and milk a huge contract for their conference and league playoff championships.
The music will have stopped at that point. There will be those on the inside and those on the outside and homeostasis will be reached.
The conference is bonded by the most tenuous of connections.. even more tenuous than when OU and Texas were a part of it.
By that, what I mean is that there is no cultural, geographic or historical connection among the majority of this group. It's a composite held together only by financial aspirations.
My gut says that KU and WVU will jump if/when given the right opportunity.
@Marco said in Well getting close I'm ready believe it or not. Are you ?:
UCF, BYU, Cincinnati and Houston are going to receive Big12 invites.
Barf :face_vomiting:
This is subtraction by addition.
Great news for Garrett!
He bought a stake in Sporting KC.
Well, we're in a giant dystopian experiment where about half of the population think that those who get a vaccination are likely to either die or otherwise come to some unfortunate end, and the other half of the population think that those who don't get a vaccination are likely to die or get seriously ill --possibly permanently.
If you could place a bet on one of these two outcomes, where would you place your money?
Ah-- it was the ACC they were playing with. Sorry for the confusion!
@JAYHAWKFAN214 That is some welcome, good news in a sea of conference Armageddon news.
I notice that several schools are paired with KU when speculating about Big 10 additions. No one is talking about Notre Dame. They've been independent, but weren't they a part of the Big10 basketball schedule and didn't they join the Big10 football schedule this past year due to COVID? Would that perhaps make them a candidate or are there unsurmountable obstacles?
For those who are trying to keep score from home, can someone please list the roster at this point?

RE: EA Sports... This ruling makes a College Basketball edition much more likely in the future.
We'll never know how OP that 2019-2020 squad with Doke would have been.. but if we'd had the game, we could have had a lot of fun dunking over and over for the final 6+ games of the season.
ESPN reporting that TyTy picked Kentucky.

I hear you. But to be fair, playing Garrett isn't the reason we didn't have scoring. There wasn't another option on the roster. This year's team was missing a lot of pieces. Its just hard to keep up when you see the rest of the team getting knocked for their (lack of) defense - i.e. Wilson, but are also presumably happy to see a defensive player of the year caliber starter move on.
I like to call last year's roster "oops all wings".
Nice. I'd like to call them "not-so-spicy-wings" or "I've had better wings."
Or maybe "All wings, no flight".
Didn't realize Langford won player of the year in his league but did know he had won championships overseas, and had picked up some other awards.
I wonder if there could ever be a path for Langford's number to hang in the AFH rafters. I don't know that I could make the case right now, but it seems like he's done more than perhaps some others.
Call me crazy, but I'm still hoping for both to return after learning what they need to know for next year. A good run in the tourney is more likely to boost both of their stock than their performance in the combine.
