@dylans I lost a ton of respect for coach K with the way he handled this kid and said several times he'd never make it in the NBA for his attitude. I honestly think hes got some serious mental issues.
The offensive and defensive lines are where the game is settled. Bender was average last season but did throw 13 TDs to 3 INTs while completing 57% of his passes. I really dont think those numbers rise a ton with the Lawrence kid from Clemson. You have to have a line to compete at this level. Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and Oklahoma all get guys from both sides of the picked in the first 4 rounds of the draft year after year. This year our line has solid size and experience, something we haven't had in quite sometime. I say this is the best line we've had since 2009 or 2010. MM and Bill Snyder were good for getting guys no one wanted to the NFL. It wasnt on talent it, it was experience, execution and coaching. Things that I feel a lot better about with this years group.
Hard to argue with at this point, kinda the same as basketball just on the opposite end. Until we can prove we can win more than 1 conference game a season (2008 last year with multiple conference wins) hard to pick otherwise.
I hate playing Chaminade, D2 school.
It wouldnt have mattered how he handled it, someone wouldnt have been happy. The guy that wrote the article probably didnt have the balls to write about the way Mixon was handled at OU, Brandon Banks at KSU or Chris Rainey at Flordia (1 of over 30 players arrested at Flordia under Meyer that people still wont speak of today). Money is what changed his mind, a chance to get clicks. The same reasoning for all these companies celebrating gay pride last month outta the blue. They didnt care about it 5 years ago and they still probably dont today, they just see the dollar signs.
Interesting how the article said he admitted to punching her in the arm, can find no source for it and it does not list any and really who the hell punches someone in the arm?
I think it was the right call, it turned into a case of he said, she said. He claimed her pushed her and left, she claimed he beat her. I highly doubt that he beat her or she'd been in pretty bad shape. He needs to surround himself with better people and keep his cool.
I could see him having weight/injury problems and becoming a nobody with in 5 years. But yes Money is the name in everything right, less and less isnt corrupt in today's world.
I think Frank's size really hurts him, the NBA game has changed to wanting 6'4 and taller PGs and big guys with range. If guys like Frank and Trob were 10 or 12 years younger they'd be solid NBA guys IMO.
Cousins to the Lakers, dont think he's a good fit and really looks to be on his way out of the league IMO. Just a one year deal, be interesting to see if he can stay healthy.
@AsadZ I agree, the Lakers need a back up PG. If not he can make a good living overseas if he chooses but it could be tough with his son.
@Texas-Hawk-10 @dylans I actually forgot about Klays injury. Definitely wide open out west now, maybe that will make the NBA fun to watch again.
I think this offseason has blown the NBA wide open in both the east and west. The east I gotta think the 76ers maybe the team to beat with KD most likely not playing. It's funny but I still like the warriors in the west, with Kawhi and PG going to the clippers, I'm not sure the Lakers will make a deep run. They should be a playoff team for sure. The real losers so far IMO are the Raptors, Thunders and Knicks.
I'm starting to wonder if the Knicks may call me! It can't get much worse for them, terrible owner and management. As @Texas-Hawk-10 said far and away the worst at this time. Heck the Browns are probably a playoff team this year lol
Maybe the only bright spot this season. They need to get rid of Terrance Gore and bring up Bubba Starling. The management of this team has been laughable since they gave Gordo a giant contract and couldn't afford anyone else. Back to the 90s and 00s royals, I guess tickets will be cheap again.
Carlton Bragg also visited there before going to NM
I'm armed and dangerous lol
I feel bad for the way things work out for cliff, he would’ve been a good guy to develop another year or 2.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree, people need to be a little reserved on excitement at this point, both recruiting wise and overall shape of the program. Too many folks are already talking about bowl games and B12 titles. Let’s take it one game, one year at a time and see what type of improvements are made on all fronts. Rome wasn’t built in a day, I don’t think Dabo or Saban would have this team in title contention for at least 2 seasons.
Its very solid class for sure, but as @Texas-Hawk-10 said we’ve been here before. But I think we have a better shot at keeping these guys with Miles at the helm. The first key would be not losing to an FCS team outta the gate. If Miles can get 4 or 5 wins this season (no more than 3 wins in a single season since 2009). I could see recruits buying into him, rather than the used car sales approach of Beaty that never was more than words in 4 years. Actions speak louder than words my friends.
Mario Little looks homeless lol. Sherron has always had trouble with weight, he did way more running than anyone else on the team while he was here to help keep him at a good playing weight. Some people are blessed with good genes, others not. I know people that eat constantly and are skin and bones, while others eat an average amount but are bigger.
@wissox idk why they would take away the shift, it’s like they try harder every year to make baseball less watchable. To me it’s already far and away the most boring pro sport. Golf as surpassed it the last few years IMO and the ratings have been laughable for decades. I forget which team it was but last month a team with a winning record played a home game with an announced attendance of 17 fans!
@HighEliteMajor very true, people tend to forget the worst shot percentage wise in the the game is just inside the 3 point line. I think moving the line back as they have done this offseason will really benefit our team.
I think we do a good job of getting some lower guys that end up being great players here. Some of which end up being nba guys. Guys like Tyrel Reed, Brady Morningstar, Frank Mason, Devonte Graham and Ochai (not gonna butcher his last name lol). We’d all be pissed if we signed a whole class with nothing but 3*s. I think balance is good, I believe some of our best teams have been with only 1 or none OAD type of player. That’s part of the reason I like this years class so much, I could see everyone staying 3 years or more. Some of the trouble is the mindset of kids nowadays, a good chunk of them don’t want to put in the time or take way too many possessions off because they are told and think they are greatness. Q is unfortunately a great example of this, his daddy thought he was Jordan and he half assed most days on the court. Few guys (Wiggins) have the talent or athleticism to get away with that.
Not surprising, one of many reasons I only watch ESPN when the hawks are playing on their channels.
@mayjay thanks for the invite lol. Although you are about 5 months early, get off your phone and have a good time!!
@justanotherfan I agree, Vick could've been a late first rounder had he kept his head in the game. I think Dotson, Ochai, Doke and SDS will all be drafted next year. I dont know if anyone goes in the lottery but it sounds like Dotson and Doke would've been drafted late 2nd round this year.
Thanks, I dont think we even had a guy entered in 2009. That team didnt have a OAD or any seniors.
When is the last time we didnt have anyone drafted? Seems like its been a while.
@Marco Coach K is about the only coach that has came out in support of the OAD. I get it in a way because hes winning these recruiting battles l (#1 class 4 years running) but hes won nothing with those classes. Cals best teams have had some guys with experience as well, that unbeaten team to the FF had a few sophomores and a junior.
Let's all take a moment to laugh at Dook, 3 guys in the top 10, no title tho....
I could see Marsha jumping ship after this year. He's learning it ain't the Valley, there's more than 2 good teams in the American.
@justanotherfan father of time is undefeated on us all.
Also Fred VanVeet was one of the main contributors not only tonight(12 points in 4th quarter) but all series. I’m honestly surprised he’s hung around in the league but good for him.
The Toronto Raptors closed Oracle Arena doors for good with a 114-110 win in game 6 of the NBA finals to the title. The injury plagued Warriors seemed to be taking control late in the third quarter before a white hot Klay Thompson (30 points) went down with an apparent knee injury. The Warriors got a good look from Curry in the final seconds to take the lead but it clanked off of the front of the rim and Draymond Green channeled his inner Chris Weber by calling a timeout they didn’t have in a scramble for the rebound to seal their fate.
Kawhi Leonard becomes the first player in NBA history to win finals MVP in both conferences. Thompson’s injury was the straw that broke the camels back in series that the Warriors played with some of the best players on the bench in street clothes. Thompson missed virtually 2 games with his injuries, KD played one quarter in the series, Cousins and Looney were limping at times thru out. But it made for a highly contest series (4 games settled by 9 points or less).
One has to wonder where the Warriors will go from here with Thompson and Cousins both becoming a Free Agents, KD having his players option to stay or go. Kawhi Leonard has his own decision to make in where he goes next season. A lotta questions loom on shortening the regular season or star players being given more breaks to help prevent such injuries from occurring. Leonard has said all year not returning to the spurs a year ago to make sure he was both fully healthy and rested played a big role in his resurgence this season.
@justanotherfan It will be interesting to see which squad is better but my money is heavily on the 2019-20 squad being better. If our line up is Dotson, Moss, Ochai, SDS and Doke, there is a chance we lose all 5 starters to graduation and the NBA draft. Then we could lose Mitch too, if he dont redshirt. I'd bet at least 4 of the 6 mentioned are gone and replacing that many starters and improving seems unlikely.
So with Wilson joining the party, does Lightfoot redshirt? I know we said the samething a year ago and Self pretty much confirmed it probably would have happened before SDS was suspended and Doke got hurt. It just hard to see him playing more than 5 or 6 minutes a game.
Update: we back folks, FF or bust as per usual
@BShark Very true, I’m hoping we can win 4 games and compete in several more. Hopefully giving us a shot at a couple of 4*
I’d like to try and go if we match up with the after shocks. Paint that place crimson and blue friends.
The recruiting rankings have us at 41 on rivals, KSU a huge surprise at 32.
I think by the time he is a senior he will be one of, if not the best defensive players under Self and Williams. He gets a ton of deflections, my coaches always to me the guys that want to win the most are those with the most deflections, loose balls and rebounds. Those guys are the ones doing the dirty work.
@HighEliteMajor I agree for the most part, I said he averaged less than 5 ppg before the second half of his junior season, not after. Also I'm not talking about outside shooting alone. Garrett isn't as good of a shooter as them guys no question but they weren't good shooters either. He is as good or better in just about every other facet of the game than them as a sophomore IMO.
I'd rather have Kawhi than Lebron anyways, I've been saying for years he is one of the most underrated players in the league. Everyone talked about Duncan, Parker, etc besides him in SA but he was a huge part of their success. All that being said, I still think it's a 5 game series for warriors if healthy but I still say Warriors in 6. The Raptors are having too many guys play well above average for me to think they can sustain this lead.
@Texas-Hawk-10 exactly, Marcus Garrett is ahead of where Releford and RusRob were as sophomores IMO. If you read the book beyond the Phogg, RusRob wasnt allowed to take 3s after the first 5 minutes of the half because he was so bad at shooting. Releford averaged less than 5 points per game before the second half of his junior year.
I'm ok with a single transfer player not a team of them. If Vick would've stayed gone we would've had Sam, Charlie, Dedric and KJ. That's just too much of a pieced together squad. We have had several solid transfer including Withey, Young, Black and Newman but they weren't on a team with 3 or 4 others at the same time.
I personally would compare him to a Perry Ellis with a more developed shot coming in. He's closer to Perry's size being 6'8 than BG's 6'6 and BG was never really put at the 4. He looks fairly long to me and could be a solid guy if he puts in work.
I like a guy that is border line cocky as long as he has a competitive nature.
@BShark no question
No offense to Grimes but I'm not disappointed to see him go. Best of luck to him but I want guys that play hard and want to win, not stand on 3 point line and chuck up bricks. Hes one of the laziest defensive players in memory, even Vick showed more on that end. Hopefully he can figure it out between the ears, this ain't high school son.
