I believe Saturday will play a big role in who gets the POY, who leads their team to a victory in the biggest game of the year?, if Evans is able to go. At this point Iād give it to DTG, Young is a solid player and averages more points and assists than DTG, shoots about 2% better from the floor and ft line. But Graham shots better from 3, has a better assists to TO ratio (averages less than half of Youngās TOs), Graham could prob average just as many points as Young if he shot the ball 8 more times a game as Young does. Evans is a solid guy too, probably the best defender of the 3 but he lags behind in assists and rebounds to the other two. He shoots the 3 at the worse percentage tho he has shot considerably less than both Young and Graham. Obviously Evans is important to Tech as they have lost the last 2:with him out or not at a 100% but I believe KU has been outscored by nearly 40 points when Graham is off the floor. KU probably doesnāt compete very well without him on the floor. He is the most important player to a single team in this conference hands down IMO. Graham is in the top of more categories than that other two using the info above. Iād say Bamba easily wins defense POY with his 4 blocks and 11 boards a game.
@justanotherfan I see what you are saying about some of these guys, Iād cut Big Ben because heās a terrible human being from Iāve heard of people that knew him college, thatās outside of rape accusations and other BS. Letās be honest here for a second, Brady is one of the best all time and Gronk is currently the best TE when healthy IMO. Peters is arguably a top 10 corner but no where near as important or good as Brady or Gronk IMO. I think you have to be good enough to out weight the side show stuff. If Brady did the protest that Kaep did he would still be playing because Kaep is an average QB with one good season, if he had Bradyās or Rodgers numbers no one would care. Same for RGIII, had one good season but no ones complaining he aināt got a contract. To me itās like this if your job pays really well like 200k, youāll probably be okay answering a call or doing some stuff after hours, but if you make 30k you aināt gonna answer that call most the time. Itās a simple thought of pro and con, is he that dam good that we are ok with is crap? Does this job pay enough for me to give a darn after hours? Thatās just my take on the matter friend.
This is very interesting, my thought is ether he thinks he can get away with this or heās just a fool plain and simple. Not sure you fail time and time again without knowing why itās in your system or how it got there.
First off as stated the UCLA streak was under several coaches and the parity in CBB wasnāt in the same galaxy that it is today. @elpoyo Look up how Dook has done vs how Kansas has done since Self arrived. Kansas has more wins, conference regular season titles, conference tournament titles, more Sweet 16s, more elite 8s and less first weekend exits. Coach K has 3 FFs and 2 national championships to Selfs 2 FFs and 1 NC. If the conference or actually winning games means anything or coach Ks early exits, Iād say they are slightly, slightly ahead of us. The sad thing to me about winning the national championships is we are so close to having more than NCAA titles. We lost by 1 point to Indiana in 1953, lost to UNC in 3 overtimes by 1 in 57, lost to Duke by 7 in 91 and Syracuse by 3 in 03. We are 16 points from having 4 more titles and mere 8 points from having 3 more (added one point for a winning score, didnāt even count 2012). Until 08 I honestly wondered if weād ever win one again, we shouldāve several times and for what ever reason even when we got there we just couldnāt finish it. The streak is great if itās able to continue this season something that most likely will never happen again, isnāt that what being a blue blood is about in a sense. Doing stuff that never has been done before like winning 14 in a row or 61 total.
I wouldnāt say we are outta the woods just yet folks. I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves, Saturday isnāt a gone and forgotten thing, it will be a challenge. If we donāt end up getting the conference the OU game that we controlled for 37 minutes will be a huge factor. I said earlier in the season if Self can win the league with these guys, heās hands down the best regular season coach in recorded history, not that heās terrible in the post season.
@JayHawkFanToo absolutely no way Shamet goes pro after this season. DG should easily go ahead of him, averages more points, rebounds, steals and assists all while playing better competition (shooting percentages are nearly even), having a better assist to TO ratio. Shamet is a solid player. Ig add @Texas-Hawk-10 in that boat too lol. Ik some of the mock drafts have him late first round but I highly doubt it.
The Kansas Women's team has been stuck on 2 conference wins for over a month coming into tonight's game including a home loss to Tech, which is their only conference win to date and a overtime heart breaker to KSU. In came OSU ranked #25th in the land and most likely an NCAA tournament team looking to pad their resume. But Kylee Kopatich and the Jayhawks wanted no part of it as she drained 5 3 pointers on her way to 19 points. I'm so glad for these ladies to finally get back to the win column when most thought they had a chance of going to the WNIT this season. I wouldn't say they have no chance, it's definitely an up battle at this point with a 12-15 record. But they have 2 winnable games left @KSU and ISU at home, 2 games that they dropped earlier in the season by a combined 5 points. I think Scheider has done enough to keep his job for now, improving from just 8 wins a year ago. He also lost a starter before the season even started and has a solid class coming in next season.
@CRH107 I believe that to be the case unfortunately. I love when guys come back regardless if they were here for a year or 5. We are all one big family of Jayhawks.
One of my co-workers thinks maybe OU has tanked since they realized thery weren't going to win the conference a week or so ago. Sounds risky but ik plenty of folks that think UK tanked towards the end of 2014 to get an 9/10 so if they made it out of the first weekend, they'd have a better road. It worked for them that year if they actually did it. Just an interesting scenario.
Thanks Jay lol, I actually like Bilas. I donāt always agree with what he says but I think he calls it just as he sees it, just like I do. Jay Williams is the same way IMO and honestly two Dook fellas are some of the ones Iād rather hear on ESPN.
Washington turned out to not be a terrible loss and Nebraska turned out to be a solid road win. TCU in a battle with ISU right now that they need to win. Baylorās chances took a hit last night, they prob need 3 or 4 more wins including the B12 tournament.
Peters seems to be a side show guy, my problem is that he gambles too much. Itās ether a big INT or a big play for the offense. The Chiefs made a huge mistake not trying to sign Chris Harris tho he was in there back yard.
Chris Beard loves KU gifts Okie State a win lol. Shocking that they even tried to play Evans even tho he didnāt look a 100%, pretty foolish IMO. Does this put more pressure on Tech Saturday now? I believe it does with gamedays first appearance in Lubbock and them having already beat us once. We know no matter what we canāt lose the conference Saturday, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. History is kinda on our side with Self never had been swept in conference play at KU but it could be the law of averages finally breaks thru, which if it does in Stillwater im not sure Iāll give a hoot.
Right because Self has sat guys that are in question while everyone else just plays them, means heās guilty, makes sense. How guys like Forde and Gotieb have jobs is baffling, donāt know a guy thats a fan of ether.
@Crimsonorblue22 yes they usually do,we was talking about how often we wear blues.
Haha how long before he create another alias lol bet it would not take long to connect the dots.
It was strange indeed, they did them as replicas of the 2008 championship teams jerseys which were blue. The only other instance I can recall was last season we wore the salute to service blues for a second time after using them to play Indiana.
I donāt like getting into these debates, I would say this instance is border line IMO. Heās why, the police yelled his name repeatedly to stop, he didnāt comply. Now some will say he was of no harm in a drive way which I agree to extent but he appears to be leaving which could put several other civilians at risk. I think the shooting was a little over board but you can hear an officer shaken and saying I thought he was gonna run over me. These situations happen so fast and itās a simple equation to me if you make the officers feel threatened in any way, they wonāt take chances on their life and I donāt blame them. Nonetheless itās a sad situation for all parties involved.
If Tech beats us again Saturday and WV Monday, they deserve to be the conference champs. They would have swept the other best 2 teams.
@Blown We could write a book about what went wrong in the last few minutes of that game, I hate that the silly turnovers, including a 10second call against one guy is last memory that I have of EJ. I know itās not right, he was pretty salty for 2 years.
@Blown I thought we agreed never to speak of that again lol. Hereās the crazy part, thats just for the escorts. They still have plenty of negative stuff probably coming out from the FBI, will they get a death penalty? How many more seasons will they have a post season ban of more wrong doing is found after they did a self imposed ban in 2016. Louisville is in deep trouble...
@Blown Thatās really what I got out of the matter, itās okay to criticize our players and coaches to an extent. Most of do it in way or another.
I like the discussions, even when people donāt agree. Iām a realist, I call it just as I see it plain and simple. The trouble can be at times that people are polar opposites, some think the sky is falling at times and others refuse to see the bad play for what it is. I believe I have a high basketball IQ and sometimes the stuff that I see people post all I can do is shake my head. Iāve always tried to agree to disagree with folks that I donāt see eye to with, not that I donāt fail at it from time to time.
Oklahoma drops to 16-11 losers 9 of their last 11, most places still have them as a 9, not even on the last 4 byes list SMH. If they get in without winning at least 3 more games including the B12 tournament, its rigged for viewership plain and simple.
Itās in our hands at this point, I guess WV, OSU and TCU could just let Tech win but we are in control of what happens to ourselves. One game at time Saturday will be the biggest and toughest battle of the season. Tech is loaded with upperclassmen and plays some of the best defense in the land. I canāt wait, is it Saturday yet!???
@BShark @chriz That is Selfs all star IMO, we have all seen Squeaks inability to develop players at every stop. KSU has as much talent as anyone in the league this year and they aināt doing too bad tied for third right now. But they return everyone next season and honestly should be a favorite in the league but Iād put money that they donāt win. Squeak was lucky once and lightening donāt strike in the same place twice.
It was a huge day for Silvio, still had his travels but the game finally appears to be slowing down for the big fella. This is extremely important going forward that he is able to come in and hold his own. I felt Mitch broke out of his mini slump, was back to flying around and blocking shots, tho he fouled a little too often.
I love this guy!
This is exactly what I was talking about a few weeks ago inserting Vick and Newman back into the line up.Swinging the ball side to side, not caring about about whoās shooting the ball. 5 guys operating as a unit, BEAUTIFUL. One of the best displays of playing together and some of the best ball movement Iāve ever seen.
It may depend us to night as well, if we lose I see no way he plays Wednesday. If we win, they put him in if stuff goes south. Okie State is a hard team to read, they played their best game against us but just got the brakes beaten off them by a Fisherless TCU.
He is alive, which is better than the alternative even for him. I expected to hear some noise from him after Saturday.
@jayballer73 That was maybe the worst National Athem Iāve ever heard, but she looked into and tired hard. Iām not gonna hate because tried to spice up the night.
I actually forgot WV not only missed a front end but also had 2 lane violations so they messed up 3 of their own attempts to start with.
@BeddieKU23 Very unfortunate for Tech, in all honesty Baylor prob doesn't beat them with Evans on the court. I'll take the conference anyway we can but I still hate to see a guy go down for anybody. If it was me I'd rest him Wednesday and take my chances beating Okie state without him to be sure he's a 100% on Saturday.
We already have one too many guys for next season, I highly doubt KU even pursues him.
@hawkmoon2020 We have already done this a few times this year and play 3 games in 7 days.
@JayHawkFanToo Thatās their non conference SOS according to RPI, itās 328 on Kenpom. I doubt their non conference is any better on the sites you listed.
Itās kinda funny I was just checked Dooks box scores for this year and they have shot more fts in all but 3 games. Several games they shot over 40 fts to a team that shot single digits, youāll never see an article on ESPN questioning this but to say KU is the only school or the most likely school to get called is a load crap.
@BShark Very true, the only reason KSU isnāt a lock right now (1 more win and I think they are) is their 330th non conference SOS and a terrible loss to Tulsa. I said on different thread, I didnāt know what the selection committee was thinking saying they are a top 16 team. They are 32nd in RPI, 40th in BPI and 38th in kenpom. That sounds like a bubble team to me, at least ESPN is paying attention to Midwest hoops lol.
I would be shocked to see us on the one line regardless if we win the conference, 6 loses is a lot for a 1 seed. OU IMO should be on the bubble right now, 16-10 and losers of 8 of their last 10. If they lose to us Monday no reason other than Young viewership to put them in.
For people that actually know the game of basketball itās not surprising, KU had several games early in the year here at AFH where they shot single digit Fts. Why? Simple they settled for jump shots and werenāt driving to the goal. Just like WV did tonight, according to the KC star, WV attempted just 6, yes only 6 of their 61 shots at the rim. They are lucky we didnāt shoot more with the obvious fouls Bilas pointed out that were misssed, honestly I thought KU got away with 2 fouls.
He answered his own question by stating WV had 6 shot attempts at the rim. Bilas himself pointed out several obvious calls against WV that werenāt called. Did KU get a couple of weak fouls and a few no calls? Sure, most the time the home team gets a few in the sport wether anyone wants to admit it or not. Remember when Staten forearmed Mason to the floor and travelled for a game winning hoop in Morgantown? Huggy didnāt have a problem with that then, I honestly think once he sees the tape and how much they settled for jump shots heāll see it wasnāt a terrible officiated game. Remember to start the season it was troubling that KU couldnāt get to the line?, we were shooting 40 plus jump shots a game. Now we have started driving the ball more and playing thru Doke. Heres a fun fact for the cry babies, in 27 games KU has shot more fts that their opponents just 8 times this season.
Letās be real for a minute on āPress Virginiaā, if you play defense longer and further away from the hoop than other teams, youād think the law of averages would put you a hand full of fouls more in most games. If a guy wanted to be picky with the freedom of movement and automatic foul when a defender puts 2 hands on a guy, you could call a foul 3or 4 times in one trip and not be wrong. The fouls shots read 35 to 2 but that isnāt the whole story ether, KU shot 4 technical shots and was fouled twice on purpose in the final minute to realistically have 27 attempts. WV also missed a front of a one and one while KU didnāt miss a front end that remember in this game. With the way most coaches do stats that matter we actually out shot them 27 to 3 at the line. Which is still a big difference but thatās all on WV for settling for jump shots. I donāt think there were that many questionable no calls, maybe two that I can think of.
Self believes heās clean as does Williams, interesting.....
@mayjay The FBI is a joke I donāt wanna get into on this thread (or really any other lol) but big changes are needed in that agency.
With 4 games left itās pretty much between Tech and Kansas. Another 2 wins next week with Tech at WV the following Monday should all be done but the crying. It sure as hell wonāt be easy, OU is kinda a trap game at this point after tonightās big win and Tech looming Saturday. Iād hope our boys are still fired up about giving it away in Norman, but Iām worried Young will break his slump and go nuts. Gonna be a fun few weeks here.
Tech just got silly there at the end, had 3 chances down by 1 for 2 of them and then by 2. Why wouldnāt you go to hoop in a game that had a tight whistle is silly.
KSU wins as does TCU and Baylor with the big of the night over Tech, tho they tried hard to give it away. Tech didnāt have Evans for 3/4s of the game and fouled out 2 guys but still had 3 tries to win it.
Graham quietly lead the team in rebounds and assists as he came close to a triple double.
Not to toot my own horn lol, but I said at half tim e with Doke having just a single foul, it was his time to go into beast mode. He answered the call.
It was interesting to me seeing ESPNs percentage of OU to make the NCAA, said with a loss to Texas it was still 97%. Seems strange that 16-10 team, 6-8 in conference would be a lock at this point. I personally hope the big 12 gets 7 or 8 in but at this point Iād be shocked if the go .500 in the league and probably wonāt even have 20 wins.
