More and more coverage of Colin after the Dolphins pass on him and sign Cutler. You know I think his protest to the flag has little to do with his not being signed. I just read post on facebook a couple days ago that he turned down a million dollar for a year offer from Seattle, sounds like he wants big bucks for a back up in most situations. I personally can't blame Miami because of his comments on Castro, he would be booed for that above nothing else with a lot of Cubans living in that area. If I'm an owner I'm less likely to sign him because of the Castro comments (have no idea how people could defend him based off his comments on a dictator and murder, don't send your kids to Nevada for college), the pigs socks and anti cops statements and his GF running her mouth constantly on twitter, if he just protested the flag i think he has a job right now.
@wissox My wife taught for a few years but its tough to eat off of what they make at least here in KS.
@wissox Good luck!
Hate to be rude, me being a certified mechanic and all but wow some of ya'll crack me up.
90% of issues with no start lawnmowers that crank is a bad coil or a plugged fuel filter.
@jayballer54 @BShark I'm a little worried Sam could be in trouble. He just looks outta sink from what I've seen and heard of the games. Garrett didn't have a great line yesterday but he was very active and today he filled up the stat sheet. Self likes his 8 man rotations and Garrett may have the upper hand by playing early in the season compared to Sam. but on the other hand Sam really doesn't have a ton of game experience himself. @DanR We have got to find a guy that takes pride in getting on the glass like a Trob that grabbed everything with in 10 feet of him. The last 2 years have been some the worst defensive and rebound teams that Self has had here and it has hurt big time in close games. On a side note did anyone else see Rico Gathers catch a TD for Dallas tonight? He was a rebounding machine and looked like it tonight jumping up and taking the ball for a score.
Last week was the big streak ending against Nebraska, I kept it going here with the 11 game ksu losing streak snapped here. I remember this day very very well. We had worked all day on my buddies farm just outside of Roxbury, KS (look up this little town if you've never heard of it) no cable out there so we grilled and listened to the game while enjoying a few cold ones that i wasn't old enough to drink lol. Surprisingly of all of us there was only one KSU fan, on a farm deep (there are a few KU farmers lol) in KSU country no less. It was a back and fourth contest, I remember going nuts once it went final.
I was able to listen to some of it and watch some highlights, Doke had some nice dunks as Self said but a dunk isn't scoring with his back to the bucket or with someone between him and the bucket, his best stat maybe 0 fouls 13 minutes. Garrett seems like a gamer he just has to settle in , had 4 fouls. DG did what he does with good passing, 9 assists with 14 points. Newman looked like the guy that we thought he would be a volume scorer. Svi was decent, Vick really didnt look all that great, he still seems to be sped up most the time. Preston will be starting over Lightfoot by mid season if that long. Moore looked like a scoring PG. just some quick hits of what i picked up.
@BeddieKU23 Lets chalk it up as great news, with Whitman leaving we could ill afford for the NCAA to draw this thing out like they have several times in the past or rule any other way.
@jayballer54 That was the Mangino era in 05. I remember him having a big game against KSU the year before, but he had really been given too many chances already with his last arrest in march 05 his 4th in a year and a half. He transferred to SIU for his senior after sitting out a year while still going to KU and thats the last I heard of him, don't believe he played a down for SIU. Joseph his brother was a star at Ok State from 10-12 and was drafted bye Dallas. He was the #1 RB going in to training camp for his 2nd year as a pro with Demarco Murry being traded before being arrested for stealing clothes and cologne from Dillard's all while making millions. Then Joseph was arrested several more times in the following months down in Wichita, which is where they both are from. Here is a link on John http://www2.kusports.com/news/2005/mar/15/ku_back_randle/ ↗
Its's disappointing for me because I had to work my ass off to just to be an average HS player when I played sports, these guys are lucky enough to have quite of bit of god given talent and piss away a free education along with millions they could've made as a pro.
@SlickRockJayhawk We do need an inside guy, but man that's TON of speculation based off of nothing.
I heard some stories about these Lawson kids and they weren't very good. Then the cussing out of Tubby video came out and now this. Hopefully Self can straighten out these boys but it looks like it wont be easy.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Very true, I think WR is our deepest position group, but if he could've learned to secure the ball more often he would be a good threat on special teams. Just hate to see players not be smart enough to keep outta trouble. Sadly a buddy and I had a conversation about the Randle boys the other day, John who was at KU for 2 years before being arrested several times and dismissed from the team and Joseph who was gonna be the Dallas cowboys starter before getting in several battles with the law.
Ya really odd timing, the players officially start camp tomorrow and exactly what the football didn't need going into year 3 of Beaty era. On top of that a huge huge loss in terms of production and losing one of, if not our fastest player. Speculating is bad as we all learned from Braggs deals but as close as Quv was with Coach Beaty, I'd say its something very serious. An interesting topic forsure, my wife currently doesn't want my son to play football (he's only 2) but it would be hard for me to tell him no. I'm hoping bye the time he gets old enough to play they have made some advances in the safety department. I personally think that the CTE is more of a risk for guys that end up playing professional, I played it growing up and got 2 concussions playing basketball (Legs took out from under me while in the air for a rebound, head first to floor) but 0 from football. In terms of going anywhere I highly doubt it. People dating back to ancient times love destruction, we all cheer for the hard hits. I agree that tackle football shouldn't be played til middle school at the earliest but at the same time I played tackle as kid on the play ground with my older siblings. The other thing is that most of these players know the concussion risk, it has been highly debated and followed the last decade. If it it was me, I'd play if for nothing else to make the millions they make so I could take care of my family. The Kaepernick thing has hurt the NFL for oblivious reasons for starters he was raised in money and grew up better than just about anyone I've ever met(I grew up poor, living in trailers and duplexes without A/C and hot water and drinking sugar water, for a few examples. I know the media claims poor white people don't exist but here I claim BS), praising a guy like Castro is a level of stupidity seldomly matched. Racism will never be completely dead and I'm not saying things are perfect but we've come along ways. Pointing fingers doesn't help anyone, work together.
The new season of Last Chance U was recently released on netflix and I enjoy watching the show which cover the season of East Mississippi community college, two Kansas commits were on the show. Peyton Bender and Octavius Matthews who played for the opposing team Itawamba CC in episode 3. Kinda was cool to see some game film on them basically, they came up just short losing 44-42 but they both had several Tds, anyhow just something fun to talk about.
Snapping the losing streak to Nebraska, was a very fun game to watch. I remember watching at an ole high school buddies that was a Husker fan, boy he was quite lol.
@JayHawkFanToo @approxinfinity @jayballer54 @HawkChamp @Crimsonorblue22 @wissox Okay I think I'm ready to start this thing here in a few weeks or so with my B12 football preview, was thinking I would start a youtube channel and maybe a twitter account as well. The twitter account I would share my podcast and jayhawk news I can find on the web and a written review of games the day after. Names?? I was thinking of something along the lines of Hawksports365. I don't believe that name would get me in trouble with the university.
Couple things here on the topic of income. First of all I don't think very many places pay minimum wage, just had lunch with my wife at subway that had sign starting at $9 and yes it takes very little skill to find a job better than that. The trouble is that wages in general are just too low. Take my situation for example me and wife both work full time for $16-$20 an hour, both have an education me from a technical school, her from the University of Kansas. We live in a $140,000 house, drive older vehicles that are paid for (me a 99 pontiac, her an 03 tahoe) and we can not afford to have a second child. My 2 year old cost about $1200 a month between daycare, healthcare and necessities. We have no fancy TVs or videogame systems or anything like that(internet is it), but we have to scrape and claw month after month to get bye. If you go back and look at how much less people paid in taxes 30+ years ago and how much less health insurance was(Obamacare cause a 35% increase for me). I just keep working as does my wife trying to get somewhere but most years my property tax goes up every year along with the mentioned insurance and the cost of living in general increasing while pay stays the same. Its just not a good ratio. The baby boomers had so much better benefits and pensions than we do, the american worker is to expendable, people aren't getting yearly raises and bonuses, labor is cheaper in other counties. Its just crazy to me to take a step back and look at my grand father who worked for the Salina Journal for 45 years no education besides highschool, raised 7 kids including my mom, lived in a middle class neighborhood and retired early at the age of 60. My wife and I both put into our retirement fund as much as we can but will most likely be working into our 70s. America used to reward hard work I'm not so sure it does anymore.
@nuleafjhawk Sounds very similar to my situation and why I recently left the car dealership business. Will miss several customers but when everyone doing my job at a less effective rate is making more money than me (most mechanics are commission, they were paying me several dollars less than the others while I flagged more, basically making more money off me) and I'm told after the boss buys $700,000 airplane that they can't afford to give me a raise, down the line I had to go.
@BeddieKU23 I agree but still think it is a positive for both the city and KU.
Surprised I didn't here a whole lot on here about the AAU hardwood classic in Lawrence over the weekend at the new the sports pavilion. Over 200 youngsters and dozens of top coaches in the college basketball world. Oddly enough the event was put on by Nike. Anyhow just cool all he new stuff going on in town and the new additions to KU, between events like this and the new housing for players paired with AFH and new Debruce center it makes a guy wonder how a recruit could say no to KU. It's a great day to be a jayhawk as always.
I keep waiting for the cost of living to go down, not sure the solution but something must change.
Been an interesting summer so far, a quit my job of being a mechanic for the last 8 years to start working for a different field. It's been a big change but for the first time in my life i dont have to sweat my butt off in the heat. Some days i think i made a mistake others are good so I'm just hanging in. I wish I had some vacation picks but believe or not at 30 I've never had one.
@SlickRockJayhawk I am leaning towards a live you tube podcast on a private page, thinking a once a week show maybe 2 to cover both the b12 and KU.
@JayHawkFanToo I could easily post it on here as well. Which topic tho?
Mitch Lightfoot will be missing a few days after suffering a broken nose, hopefully he stays aggressive. http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/jul/21/ku-forward-mitch-lightfoot-breaks-nose-will-be-hel/ ↗
Hey Buckets friends, I was sitting here in the shade with the ole dog days of summer here for most of the midwest, an idea jumped in my head. I was thinking about starting a blog or some sort of deal with weekly pod casts or articles about the Big 12 and KU. Who here thinks it would be a good idea and or would be interested in viewing or reading such a thing. Should I start a twitter and or youtube page? Just curious for some opinions thank you in advance.
@jaybate-1-0 YES!! Nice to see your comical side has returned.
@BeddieKU23 @Lulufulu He definitely has the tools to become a great defensive player but I think he's just too lazy. He just stands there most the time and makes no attempt to guard. In his defense that's just the way most players are in the league these days. I don't really think Wigs will get to be a whole lot more than what he is now IMO. A volume shooter that takes 35+ shots to get his 25 points, just like Kobe late in his career. I'll be honest Wigs to me isn't a great basketball player, he is just one of the best athletes on this planet right now and that alone makes him decent.
I think this is pretty crappy news. I highly doubt Bagley is gonna even end up reclassified or even at KU at this point. Only having 3 bigs could translate to trouble in the games that Doke is in foul trouble. I would be shocked if we didn't add a Juco or someone just to have a 4th big. The positive is that Mitch is likely ahead of where most thought he would be hence Whitman not thinking he would play much. One other good thing with the Italy trip is Billy should be ahead of most freshman entering the season.
Trying to build a little hype here as we are just 7 weeks from KU opening the football season. Video is long but a good one and a great game. Great tribute to FAM and man it seems like a life time ago when Memorial Stadium was full but what a site. Lets get back to these days.
@Kcmatt7 Most farmers work their ass off just to make ends meet. Farming will be a huge issue for our children or grand children because so many people and families are getting out of it. We will have too many mouths to feed and not enough crops to feed people. The trouble is the capitalism is too greedy. My in-laws recently stopped farming because they lost money in doing so for several year, food we buy at the market is higher priced than ever and yet the price of grain isnt squad so someone inbetween the two is makes large amounts of money.
Here's my deal with Mario, love the kid and always will for his defense and his game but I honestly don"t think he is on my list with out hitting the 3 against Memphis. Which is a big shot and a big moment but that's why he's number 4 on my list. Mason is number 1 on my list even if hadn't have won POY. Trob would be in the top 3 regardless of the outcome of his junior year. I'd say if that shot goes to someone else or we don't need it to win some like Sherron or Reed ends up on my list instead of him, not to take away anything from that huge shot. Just saying that one play elevated his status and rightfully so.
@Kcmatt7 I agree a 100% Here's some more food for thought, before 1913 americans paid no income but some how we still had schools and roads. The big difference to me is politicians like the Clinton and Bush families didn't have net worths of 200 million dollars back then. I'm okay with paying a small percent of taxes to help but how much of it goes to politicians that work 25% of the year and are guaranteed hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from then til death? How much goes to guys like the one that lives across the road from me, that can ride 4 wheelers, fish and hunt on the days he not laying around playing X box but has some bogus disability that pays him obviously gods plenty to survive on, hell he just bought a $2000 smoker. Mean while I have clearanced 4 year old gas grill that I paid $80 for. To me its crazy they put the luxury tax on stuff like beer and tobacco so people will be less tempted to buy it or so they say. I think they are to doing to middle class working families, taxing them to the point where its better to not have a job.
Awesome for him end his career where it started, well sorta lol. Loved Nick when he was here easily one of my all time favorite hawks. I know there will be some nay sayers because he spent most of his time as a role player in the league but anyone who can play at the highest level for 15 years has had a solid career end of story.
Forgot to post on this earlier, KUsports.com made a top 5 list of fan favorites during Bill Self's tenure. See them here http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/tale-tait/2017/jul/14/the-ultimate-ku-fan-favorites-of-the-bil/ ↗
Here's my list:
1. Frank Mason III, Couldn't hardly go with anyone else here, a 4 year guy that came from nowhere with little hype to leading us to back to back elite 8s and a NPOY winner.
2. Thomas Robinson, Never heard of a player going thru more stuff off the court as him, and always played hard. Lead his team to a National runner up finish, broke the hearts of Fizzou fans everywhere by nailing 2 late fts and rejecting little Phil Pressey at rim in the last meeting of the border war to force OT.
3. Jamari Traylor, I know some people on here disliked him and hI'll say he never grew into the player I thought he could be after several games that he showed signs of what he could've become. But man I never question his hustle and he had some of the best hustle plays I've seen.
4. Mario Chalmers, Hit the biggest shot in KU history, National Champion, KUs career leader in steals and always had a smile on his face.
- Perry Ellis, Home grown kid that started 3 years. Perry was consistent as could be for the most part and is one of the best stretch 4s we have had in a long time. Think hos career would've ended on a higher note if had played along side of someone that was a scoring threat.
Hard to narrow it down to these guys with how much I care about most of our current and former guys. Who do ya'll got?
NBA and Jayhawk legend Paul Pierce has signed a contract with the Boston Celtics to retire. Story here http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20089465/paul-pierce-signs-contract-retire-boston-celtics ↗
Haha I'm some where in between the democrat talk of socialism and the republican talk of lowering taxes. I agree with the Dems the cost of living is too high but realistically if everything is free in terms of healthcare and college, I will be homeless with the amount of tax dollars that will take. Doctors and teachers ain't gonna work for free and they are businesses so that money needs to come in from somewhere. The republicans don't think there is a problem outside of taxation, which taxation is a problem but its far from the only one. I'm just a simple working class american that wishes on of these politicians that claims to stop the war on the working folk actually does it one of these days. All I know is my taxes and my healthcare have gone up every year since I've been an adult (I'm 30) along with everything else while my pay has increased very little.
@mayjay I've done some writing for sports in the past. Its just crazy to me the how much the cost of living has gone up and how much these guys make. I think that some day it will have to level out at some point. @justanotherfan I don't hate anyone just crazy to me how much some people can make in the long run by playing a game or acting. It almost makes me laugh seeing some of the celebs weight in on stuff, them not know they are part of the problem not the solution and half of them owe on taxes lol.
It's crazy the big bucks average NBA guys are getting nowadays, while my wife and I work 3 between the 2 of us just to live indoors. This is the main reason I'm starting to dislike pro sports so much, the average player making more money than half the counties in the world. While they tax the living daylights outta the working man some of which goes to build fancy new stadiums so business owners can make even more. Kinda got of topic I guess, lol I think Hill is a decent player nothing more but he does have some young guys he could help on Kings roster.
@mayjay We have to start getting people to the stadium buddy. I try to go to a few games but I can't make them all. We really competed well for the most part at home LY, which is important to me in regards to going to the games.
Absolutely great news for Frank, I was a little worried for a bit there. Doesn't look like details are out on it at this point but usually a chance is all Mason needs.
@JayHawkFanToo @mayjay If we don't start 3-0 a bowl is outta the question and probably winning more than 2 games with it. Ohio out played us for a quarter last year coupled with 2 costly muffle punts is why they won. We were the better team IMO most of the afternoon , no excuses not to go into that madder than hell or really any other game.
@Kcmatt7 I agree with most of what you have stated, if can't average a minimum of 25 ppg this season returning what we do, I'm good with firing everyone. Defensively we have got to have our linebackers show up to the games, we beat ISU, TCU and Ohio last year if we could stop anyone from gashing us time after time in the ground game. We have some new guys and some vets at that spot, they have to come to play every week with no excuses
@stoptheflop Ya I had some KSU fans disagree but I still think KU is the biggest rebuilding projecting in the land right now. I'm not saying its bigger than KSU was but IMO its close. I realize KSU sucked for like 50 years before Snyder came along but KU has sucked about 40 of the last 50 years and I can't find anything saying KSU start minus 25 scholarships players starting out under Snyder.
@JayHawkFanToo I'm not saying I agree with it or its right but he is blowing up all over place and getting coverage people cant even buy. @mayjay Yep I'll never buy any bbb stuff, too much loud mouth for me. I'm not trying to defend the guy I'm just saying he's doing trying to get more coverage and its working very very well for him.
@JayHawkFanToo @bskeet You know I disagree. I think Lavar isn't anywhere near the goon he portrays to be. How would he be a successful trainer or business man? I think it is all a show to get his boys and his company more air time. It's highly annoying and silly but I can't make it a day without reading about him somewhere. I highly doubt Magic has any trouble with him and didn't sound like Alford did at UCLA.
SEMO (91)
Central Michigan (49.8)
at Ohio (35.5)
West Virginia (21.9)
Texas Tech (26.7)
at Iowa State (19.7)
at TCU (3.8)
Kansas State (12.4)
Baylor (14.5)
at Texas (5.2)
Oklahoma (2.5)
at Oklahoma State (5.5)
Some are a little laughable, maybe most IMO. Less than a 50/50 shot to win against an FBS opponent? Less than 20% to beat ISU and less than 4% to beat TCU, a team we have played close every year since they joined the league? Get outta here. Still to early for my predictions but goodness.
Calling it now friends, Dorance Armstrong is a first rounder in the 2018 NFL draft, our first since Talib in 08.
