Missed this yesterday: Mike Pennel signed to Bengals practice squad. No secret re-signing plan for him apparently.
@nuleafjhawk said in Kansas vs. Wagner:
Over 7,000 yards passing for his career. Works out to about 500 yds per season or so.
The announcers made a big deal about Daniels being the 2nd KU player to that total. They didn't mention he is still 4,000 yards behind Reesing who did it in only 4 years!
@rockchalkjayhawk Technically, everyone we cut who didn't have to go through waivers, but we then re-signed, was a free agent...temporarily. That is why I'm nervous about Pennel if they dawdle too much!
Veach says Pennel could be back before or during season. They preferred Nnadi because he is 5 years younger, but they are still looking at DLs throughout the league. Hard to get good trades for KC because of both draft position (31) and no extra early round picks to entice other teams.
@Crimsonorblue22 Cobee just signed to be on Atlanta practice squad.
@dylans said in 2025 Chiefs:
...Pennel has come up big before...
I have yet to see any report of Pennel re-signing as expected. Not on any lists in about 5 sources I've checked. Last I counted, Chiefs have 16 on practice squad so he could well be the last one to sign.
@Crimsonorblue22 Cobee, KU's #2? He was put on inactive/nonfootball (injury? or other reason?) status back in late July by Atlanta (who signed him as undrafted FA). Don't know why...
Lots of familiar faces on KC practice squad. From SI:
Offensive linemen Chu Godrick (international player pathway exemption) and C.J. Hanson, defensive backs Mike Edwards, Kevin Knowles and Melvin Smith, running backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Carson Steele, quarterback Chris Oladokun, defensive linemen Coziah Izzard, Brodric Martin and MArlon Tuipulotu, wide receivers Hal Presley and Jimmy Holiday and tight end Tre Watson and linebacker Cole Christiansen.
@Crimsonorblue22 Hardman signed with Packers.
LB Cam Jones and OT Esa Pole, both waived by Chiefs, were picked up by the Jets.
@rockchalkjayhawk @Crimsonorblue22
Bean was cut by the Colts, too.
Jesse Newell (now the Chiefs' beat writer for The Athletic) also discusses it:

@Crimsonorblue22 I really doubt it. He was only here last year because of injuries.
BTW, this Sports Illustrated post explains the Chiefs' strategy in the roster cuts:

@rockchalkjayhawk Apparently they may re-sign Pennell. As a veteran, not subject to waivers. The Chiefs played with a few of these expected re-signings of vets because, I think, they wanted room on the roster now for 8 WRs so they wouldn't lose anyone to other teams. This enables them to have people who know the offense in place when Rice gets suspended instead of searching for some castoff.
3 calls against #77 on one FS drive. Kind of reminds me of Chiefs RT!
Chiefs traded for DT Derek Nnadi from the Jets (exchanged 2026 6th and 7th round picks). Got him back after he was signed as a FA last spring by NYJ. Good move!!!
@BShark Well, the Yaz one started nicely!
@nuleafjhawk My dad was in Az in WW2. He said the humidity was so low that you never felt sweat even in the 90's playing tennis. But you would end up with a white crust on your skin. Now, I've heard people say irrigation has more than doubled the humidity levels.
Again, I pass. Like, I will pass through to see the Grand Canyon.
My wife has been talking about moving to the Phoenix area from here near Hilton Head. Me: "So, go from almost Hell with water saturating the air to actual Hell with no water at all. Try again!"
Another "up" in the roller-coaster ride known as Vick! Hope this signals he has defeated his demons. For some of us it took decades, but thanfully it is all 3 decades in the past for me.
Trey Smith signed 4 year extension Final piece in place!
Edit: Other than 2nd rd pick. Only 2 of 32 have signed. They all want more guaranteed money after this year's 1st pick of the second round got a huge guaranteed portion increase over last year's #33 pick.
@approxinfinity Sorry about Opal and Lily. Glad to hear they weren't named Ben......
@nuleafjhawk Were you born there? Or do you really not remember?
@approxinfinity And both of which have beaten us in the tourney. Revenge time, only 51 and 23 years late.
@SlimShaddy54 Wrong forum?
@dylans They also rented construction equipment to be in the background of a fake groundbreaking photo at the Tropicana site. Lots of theater going on in their PR about a stadium for which financing doesn't exist but which they claim will be magically done in 3 years. This site fell for it hook, line, and sinker: https://ballparkdigest.com/2025/06/24/athletics-mark-new-las-vegas-ballpark-construction-launch-with-groundbreaking/ ↗
Maybe A's games will be created by AI also?
@SlimShaddy54 He is pretty clever, ain't he, that fine-feathered friend of our'n!
Geez, what happened to the posse lookin' to tar and feather that varmint who can't 'cruit nor coach no more?
@wissox You need to enroll by mid-July if you want to recreate history. The parallel universes require a certain level of actual parallelness, not just dates. So, where will you be living in Lawrence next semester?
@drgnslayr said in The portal.:
there are issues happening with foreign student visas
Another article, from The Athletic (I should get a commission, I push it so much), talking about how many international college athletes and recruits are being affected by the travel ban, not only the visa restrictions.
@approxinfinity said in KU Roster for 25-26:
I will die on this hill railing against absolutism and forced dichotomies.
I absolutely love your being absolutely against absolutism. But I am absolutely opposed to you dying on this or any other hill involving semantics!
Hunter Renfroe was such a huge letdown they waived him and ate a huge contract. Should the GM be able to predict a rapid descent like that?
@jayhawks2010 People are displacing the panic they should be having about world events onto sports. Not just here--fanbases everywere seem more irrational than normal!
Not political...just a question on procedures. Visas for international college students are held up currently as the State Dept reviews social media (hasn't said for what). Could that be putting a hold on announcing any recruiting efforts?
Have we lost @BShark ?
@approxinfinity IIRC, the Nets dumped salary and tanked right after JV was made permanent coach. Nets fans are nuts.
If KU beats Creighton on Friday, they play the winner of North Dakota St. vs Arkansas (# 3 overall seed).
If KU wins the regional they play the winner of the Knoxville regional: Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Tennessee (#14 seed), or Miami.
@Crimsonorblue22 It is a hyphenated word, begins with s, and ends "---letes"
@Texas-Hawk-10 Anybody care to take bets on who will be compromised the most from any bill passed?
@wissox @ImmunoHawk Same here about not being able to sit outside!
Of course, a TEEENSY bit different... 94 here in Hilton Head, SC, this week.
@HoraceZontal And where.
@SlimShaddy54 WVU up 2 in wins + 4 less losses = 6 total difference = 3 games ahead.
@Crimsonorblue22 Larry might have had two if Archie Marshall hadn't gotten injured in 1986. Besides Haase, Roy also might have won if Capt Kirk hadn't hurt his knee. Bill, perhaps three if Embiid hadn't .....
You can go on and on with what if's! It's what makes sports fun--no season is ever over in our memories!
@nuleafjhawk Plays Bosche, based on the Michael Connelly cop books.
@Jhawk69 By cracky, you've got a point there! I thought something was wrong and just kept looking at spelling and grammar. Didn't notice my incorrect identification of the sea in which the Squid was swimming!
I still can't lay the 2003 loss to the Evil Orange at Roy's feet. Unfortunately KU shot under 50% on FTs. Unlike Cal who ignored UK's problems all season in 2007-08, Roy cared about those but sometimes the balls don't go in.
Owens fell in love with the stall offense and it killed team after team.
@RockkChalkk The Holocaust didn't start with a bunch of exterminations that suddenly surprised everybody. Hitler ran for Chancellor on a campaign to literally destroy the German democracy, and he did it. It took 58 days. Using executive orders and passing laws restricting the rights of Jews in Germany are precisely how Hitler began his agenda. Once you declare people aren't as entitled to legal protections as others, you open the door to larger scale assaults on civil liberties on a large scale which Trump has expressly stated is his goal.
What is disgusing is how few people recognize the historical parallels...and how you attack someone who recognizes them. Martin Niemöller had something to say about that willful blindness. Please read some history.
@approxinfinity Might be from the era before you were even a glimmer in your parents' eyes, but... Flip flops used to be known as thongs (especially the ones from India where you'd soak the leather soles and let them dry conforming to your feet, circa early '70s IIRC), probably until the other clothing item and certain swimsuits acquired that name.
Apparently I was misinformed. International students whose visas were revoked have not had their visas restored by the administration's reversal. It has to do with the federal database of international students' status, where the feds had terminated their F-1 student status en masse. Deleting their status made them eligible for deportation. It is the status that has been restored. DHS says no visas have been restored.
I admit I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it sounds like something that may only delay students from joining the ranks of deportees as a result of the database change--until ICE just gets around to rounding up all visa holders from particular countries. Anyone who understands the student database thing is free to correct me!
