@drgnslayr NO WAY. You can be on my island!! Therefore, our island.
It seems to me that you (people) can't talk to anyone without fear of some sort of retribution. People have lost their minds. We can't talk about race, politics, religion. We can't talk to or about the opposite sex. We can't talk about handicapped people, athletes, military. We can't talk about anything or anyone without someone throwing out the "Oh boo hoo, I'm offended, you're trying to belittle me" card.
I am so ready to buy my own private island (am currently taking donations....) and be apart from all the crazies.
My only requirements are A/C and television. And a nice comfy mattress. Kind of like an upscale versison of Naked and Afraid. I hope that doesn't offend anyone.
I've been following KU football for more than 50 years. My head is still beneath the clouds.
@KUSTEVE That surprises me. I guess it shouldn't - i have a faint recollection of being wrong at least once before. No need to research it any more for me - I'm starting to buy what you're selling.
One of those things that i just had in my head that if they weren't great by an early age, they weren't going to be. Just being stupid, I guess.
@KUSTEVE Absolutely anyone can improve at anything. It just seems to me that athletes who are "elite" or even way above average either have a God given talent or they have such an extreme interest (passion) in their sport that they develop it very early. Hopefully he will do the nose to the grindstone thing and develop into a very good shooter.
@FarmerJayhawk Thank you!
Does anyone know when the ESPN 18 part series about KU Football is supposed to air? All I've seen is "sometime" in August. Yes, I've googled it. Thanks - appreciate any info that y'all might have.
@KUSTEVE Theoretically. Most ball players I've known/heard of are well practiced by the time they're 12-15. To "learn" to start shooting at 17 is more or less unheard of.
Reference Udoka Azubuike's free throw shooting.
@KUSTEVE I think Q was shaken, not stirred....
@KUSTEVE Oh - past my time. We lived there from 1979 - 1987. I keep forgetting I'm older than everyone else!!
@KUSTEVE What years did you live in Houston, if i may ask?
This whole segment is precisely why we should only talk about football, basketball and when extremely bored, baseball.
Oh - and cartoons. Specifically the Angry Beavers.
@Kcmatt7 I wholeheartedly agree with going for it on 4th down. I probably wouldn't have a punter on the team if i was the coach.
Not so agreeable on the onsides kick thang though.
In my mind, K-State should always have the best punter in the nation.
@drgnslayr If the teams don't recognize Max significantly this season - I will change my user name (and loyalty) to nuleafwildcat.
Bill Snyder got a stadium and a highway named after him and, although he engineered a major turnaround in Manhattan, he is NOTHING compared to what Max Falkenstein has done for KU.
@approxinfinity Well, it's good to know anyway. I was going to throw this computer off of the roof, but now i won't need to. Unless I just do it for fun!
@approxinfinity No, apparently that is blocked by my employer. It's ok - I can see everything on my computer at home (but i usually don't because i'm sick of computers by the time i get home!)
Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate everything you do for this site!
@approxinfinity I don't think they're blocking stuff. I'm usually on Chrome, now on Firefox. What's really strange (to me) is that i can see videos, just not pictures.
Like many of you, I spent half my life listening to Max on the radio (sometimes even when I could watch TV). He was an amazing man. Passionate, loyal, always displayed great sportsmanship. A very important piece of KU is missing.
@approxinfinity - is there a reason that i can't see these (or any other pictures) on this website? (My computer at work....) Thank you.
OH, give me a break. I have ONE bad day and everyone loses their minds. And I really, really wanted a bagel.
Thanks @approxinfinity ! It's not a huge deal to me, I mostly use my work computer - and the home computer. I rarely use my phone for anything but FB and Instagram! Well, and games. I appreciate all that you do for this site!!
I can't sign in on my phone, period. It keeps telling me " invalid password". When i request a new password to be sent - nothing. So, I'm just KUBucketing from my work computer from now on.
@KUSTEVE I hope so. Can't be much worse.
@KUSTEVE Well, my point is, I'm hoping that we aren't getting our hopes too high and expecting too much from Les Miles. Apparently, I'm the only one that had high expectations for Weis.
@FarmerJayhawk Seriously? After the Turner Gill debacle you weren't happy about the Weis hire?
I have to admit i'm stoked for football season, but weren't we all pretty hyped when Charlie Weis was hired?
Very nice letter!! LL just elevated a few notches on my favorite Jayhawks list.
Oddly, I found a letter from a OAD - it's sentiments are pretty similar:
Deer fans of wutevah skool it was that i was forsed to uttend for one year afore i kood leaf and make muh millyuns,
Tank yoo fore cheering for ME. MY stutisticks was purty good that year (but i held back so i ditnt git hurt and loose a lot of money). It was fun. Sometimes i look back and think fond memories of when i uttendid ...........what skool was dat again?..........um.....there was lots of purdy girls, lots of free stuff, no nashunal champyunship.....oh well - dont matter - i gots muh NBA contract and i is LOADED now. Yay ME.
I watched re-runs of Naked and Afraid in the comfort of my air conditioned living room. My wife watched the fireworks from our back porch.
One of my favorite days of the year - the 5th of July.
The "I" before "E" rule, as explained by Brian Regan.
“I" before "E" except after "C" and when sounding like "A" as in neighbor and weigh, and on weekends and holidays and all throughout May, and YOU'LL ALWAYS BE WRONG NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY!!!!”
@drgnslayr said: "Isn’t it possible we are giving too much attention to rankings over what the players actually bring to the table?"
Yes.
Way too much attention given to "rankings" and not nearly enough to work ethic, character, team play - things like that. Is it my imagination or is this going for the rankings (OAD) thing a relatively new thing for KU? Especially the past 10 years or so.
@Marco We need to sign Dante.
I hear he's an inferno...
Not a secret that I'm not a Shockers fan, but I do hate to see stuff like this. Injuries, sickness, trouble with the law - it's a shame. I hope he gets his life straightened out.
@justanotherfan Unless your name is Tom Brady
@nwhawkfan And if they are the kind of player that can turn a team around - they'll leave after about 3 years and turn around some other team.
@BShark DaJuan Gordon - easy explanation. He took a sudden interest in livestock.
@Crimsonorblue22 The NBA ruins the NBA for me.
@Kcmatt7 Like I said, it's a matter of opinion. You obviously think he's a great coach, I don't. That's OK. I may be dead wrong. Maybe he would go to ...... Alabama or wherever and tear it UP.
But I'm pretty comfortable having him in our league.
@Kcmatt7 Everyone's got an opinion and yours and mine are pretty far apart on this one.
I believe that Scott Drew is a huge reason Kansas had 14 consecutive conference championships. He had so much talent during that time and did so little with it. Honestly, in every game that Baylor had any kind of a lead on us, I didn't even have to change my superstition routine - I knew that Drew would find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
He may be a wonderful guy, pillar in his community or whatever, but I'm glad he's Baylor's coach and not ours.
@justanotherfan I hope he stays healthy enough to see how far he can take US!
@Crimsonorblue22 Good luck convincing him not to hang on the rim. That's his favorite play.
Why don't we put an end to all the recruiting BS (and arguments)?
Let's initiate a High School draft. The crappiest college gets first pick. The National Champ gets last pick. Then the team with the best coach wins the damn super bowl seemingly every other year..........wait. Sorry - got off track. But the principal is the same.

By the way, Self is gone to coach the Trans-Siberian Womens Olympic development team.
Do they have a big who can shoot free throws ??

Can't leave the meth lab unattended.
That was my exact first thought.
@BShark Who is "this kid" ? On my screen, your sentence is the only thing that shows up.
@DanR Tornadoes are scary phenomenon. If you aren't scared of a tornado - you're stupid. (not YOU - people...) Simple as that.
I'm notorious for "skim-reading", but if this wasn't on your list, might be a good addition. A portable radio with fresh batteries.
I agree with your wife - stay out of the car and in the basement. Storms can change track in a heartbeat and even if they don't they can scatter debris for 50+ miles. I believe very few people are seriously injured while in the basement.
Stay safe!
Are there any lawyers on here? Can someone pass a law that bars any tornadoes rated higher than F0 from the state of Kansas? And parts of Missouri (my son lives in KC) - throw in Oklahoma and Texas too, I have people there. Well - just ban tornadoes from the U.S. all together. Thank you.
@justanotherfan Respectfully, Wilt is one of the one best players of all time.
@BShark " I DON'T GIVE A S*** ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA! "
@wissox AMEN Brother! Call a sin a sin, not a "bad choice".
