FUNDAMENTALS VS ATHLETICISM • May 14, 2019 08:57 PM

Well.............

I guess I see things differently than a lot of people.

We've had some freak athletes that were - conservatively - not great basketball players.

We've had some hard nosed "fundamentalists" that gave their heart and soul for KU.

Bing...Bing.....Bing..... - GIVE ME THE FUNDAMENTALS GUY EVERY DAY!!!

Dam Josh , what are you doing man • May 14, 2019 02:40 PM

@KUSTEVE Actually - I had completely forgotten about him.
It's like where I work - I don't bother to learn your name until you've been here 6 months. Not an elitist attitude - just a lot of turnover!

Dam Josh , what are you doing man • May 13, 2019 07:33 PM

@jayballer73 I kind of agree with you - you weren't demeaning his character ( he was doing that on his own ), just stating the facts of his stupidity.

Dam Josh , what are you doing man • May 13, 2019 07:08 PM

At least he ain't at KU

Marcus • May 10, 2019 09:30 PM

@kjayhawks I don't know what the stats say, but give me Russell Robinson or Travis Releford ANY DAY over Garrett. He's not bad, but he's not in their league. My opinion.

@Kcmatt7 Traverse City is nice from what I hear. I've a cousin and uncle on the lake there. A bit cold in the winter however!

" But the summer weather is absolutely amazing."

All six weeks of it! Lol. After spending the majority of my life in Kansas, I'm ready to move somewhere with more moderate weather. I'll have the pies shipped to me.

@BShark On my computer, that article was pretty much unreadable because of all the ads.

However - I agree with the title - Let's get back to dunking. Big time.

Seems like it could be a pretty high percentage shot.....

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK, BABY!!!!

Mythbusters: Wilt, the Incredible Stilt! • May 09, 2019 01:21 PM

Wilt was a good student. He listened to everything I told him and made it his mission in all competition to DESTROY the opponent, not just defeat them. In my opinion, he was the greatest all around athlete there ever was. Or will be.

Super Bowl or bust! • May 09, 2019 01:08 PM

I would love that so much - but - pretty high expectations for a team with basically a brand new defense and losing the fastest/best wide receiver in football.

Rain • May 08, 2019 08:16 PM

@Woodrow I feel your pain - hope you're not getting any flooding - but I personally will take the rain over the frickin snow/sleet/sub-zero temps any day.

Some misc things guys : RJ/Devon/ Silvio • May 02, 2019 12:56 PM

@Marco I did say to forget about the Midwest, huh? Should have said don't restrict ourselves to the MW exclusively.

Some misc things guys : RJ/Devon/ Silvio • May 01, 2019 09:30 PM

@BShark I'm ok with that!

Some misc things guys : RJ/Devon/ Silvio • May 01, 2019 09:11 PM

@justanotherfan I think we should forget about the Midwest and concentrate on the coasts. It CAN be done:

Alonzo Jamison - California

Adonis Jordan - California

Rex Walters - California

Scott Pollard - California

Jacque Vaughn - California

Jerod Haase - California

Eric Chenowith - California

Sasha Kahn - Florida

Russell Robinson - New York

Aaron Miles - Oregon

Morris Twins - Philadelphia

Then throw in a couple of them from Chicago - Sherron Collins, Mario Little and a Billy Thomas from Louisiana.

There's talent to be found all over the country / world.

This list is in no way all inclusive - there are MANY that I forgot or didn't have time to research.

Chris Beard extends with Tech • Apr 30, 2019 08:13 PM

@rockchalkwyo No, I didn't take it that way - I just have very high expectations for KU basketball (and hopefully KU football soon!). Rock Chalk!

Chris Beard extends with Tech • Apr 30, 2019 06:55 PM

@rockchalkwyo KU also needs fans that are NOT OK with 10+ losses.

The jersey says KANSAS - we expect greatness.

Combine Invites • Apr 30, 2019 01:19 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I lived in Houston for almost 9 years (about 1,000 years ago...) and I noticed the same thing. Four million people to choose from and there's hardly any D-1 talent that emerges. It's weird. My brother in law and myself spent so much time in Herman Park, where they had unofficial 3 on 3 tournaments going seemingly around the clock and saw some phenomenal players, but none of them seemed to advance beyond the park league.

Combine Invites • Apr 30, 2019 12:51 AM

@justanotherfan I would give option 1 a lot more weight. What if he was a man in high school and a boy in college? I'm talking only as it pertains to the game of basketball, NOT his character. He may just be in over his head until he develops more.

Combine Invites • Apr 29, 2019 09:16 PM

I don't think I've ever mentioned this before

I HATE the NBA. And all professional basketball associations that have anybody on the roster younger than 22 years old.

There. I said it.

How did the Chiefs do in the draft? • Apr 28, 2019 10:55 PM

@approxinfinity Will let you know February 3, 2020.

Great game last night • Apr 28, 2019 12:42 AM

@wissox lol - I doubt that's the case. Here's the deal, I'll only "dislike" you when the Sox play the Royals!

Great game last night • Apr 27, 2019 08:36 PM

@wissox I like you most of the time.

That does not apply to baseball season...

Hill under investigation • Apr 27, 2019 01:29 AM

There are terrible people everywhere. Terrible doctors, terrible accountants, terrible fork lift drivers, terrible home security people(BTK)

Why do all the terrible great football players end up with the Chiefs?

@dylans First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss and hope that you and your family are able to find peace in the midst of the storm.

Well, that does it for me on this subject. It's too volatile, too sensitive and no matter what I feel, this is probably not the right forum for something like this.

KU announces deal with Adidas • Apr 24, 2019 06:43 PM

@HighEliteMajor "But Self has a reputation of not being OAD friendly."

If that is true, Bill Self has my undying loyalty. If a OAD never set foot on our campus again, I'm a happy, happy camper.

KU announces deal with Adidas • Apr 24, 2019 03:51 PM

@Woodrow I wonder if I could sign with Tony Lama........shoot give me a free pair of boots every year and I'm IN.

@Kcmatt7 We could debate this for a while ( you'd win because you're smarter than I am ) but, the bottom line is I think we're both agreeing that pro sports are becoming less and less important to us.

I had to laugh about the Royals comment though - last year was the first Royals game I'd been to in ....20 or so years. Again, four of us - we paid something like $38 apiece for tickets. For some reason, the angelic parking attendant just waved us through so we didn't have to pay the $20 or $30 parking fee. We bought a couple of programs, a couple of pops, couple of beers. I don't remember the prices, but they were exorbitant.

So, while we're waiting to get into the stadium, people are coming up and buying tickets at the gate for $8. If i ever go to another game, that's how I'll do it.

@Kcmatt7 I can sleep at night knowing that I don't support the habit.

The last pro game I went to was 10 years ago. Four tickets, 8 rows up in the end zone (so not great seats...) Between tickets, parking, programs, $9 hot chocolate (it was in the middle of December) it was right at about $500 for four of us.

Done.

KU Seasonal Stats - The Bill Self Years • Apr 24, 2019 02:06 PM

@approxinfinity It would be very interesting ( to me ) to see the 3 point, free throw % and .....steals from the past 5 or so National Champions.

To see if there's a trend there - or who knows, maybe it's just a lucky break, a key injury, a couple of oddball things that really doesn't have to do with a specific type of play.

@dylans I literally could have written this same thing - word for word. Well, I probably wouldn't have said anything about the FBI because I just don't care - BUT - I also would have mentioned that what is really ruining it for me (NFL) is the money. It is ridiculous, obscene, unjust, unfair and possible inhumane to pay these idiots that kind of money.

105.5 MILLION for 5 years? Cure some cancer - that justifies the money. Get rid of illegal drugs - that justifies the money. Clean our water and our air - that justifies the money. Give me some World Peace, put an end to poverty, hunger, sickness in third world countries (America too!) - that justifies the money. Make a cell phone that won't operate inside of a started vehicle - that justifies the money.

You know what does NOT justify 105.5 MILLION dollars for 5 years for me? Tackling a guy carrying a football.

KU Seasonal Stats - The Bill Self Years • Apr 24, 2019 01:30 PM

@approxinfinity - this is AWESOME! Thank you for this great info. I'm a stats freak, though i don't post it very much. The first thing i looked at was free throw percentage. I was surprised and a little disappointed that the numbers were as high as they were when we made an early exit in any of the tournaments. In my mind i pictured 75% when we made it to the Elite Eight or above and about 55% when we lost early. Maybe that's why Bill spends zero time working on free throws in practice - apparently they don't mean squat.

By the way, I'm currently leading my office pool, averaging 6.332 cups of coffee per day. I think I can get over 7 with some practice. Of course, productivity drops a little for me as I spend 1.53 hours per day in the "facilities". Love my stats. Lol

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 24, 2019 01:44 AM

@Fightsongwriter REALLY? This is the time you pick to play the reality card? Just give us a day or two to bask in the probability of greatness.

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 23, 2019 09:00 PM

@colohawks Please never mention "Doke" and "Hurt" in the same post again.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 23, 2019 07:27 PM

@dylans Maybe it's just my perception. I want hard nosed, Russ Robinson, Jerod Haase, T-Rob kind of players. Well, they all played their butts off, hard nosed players, but really I'd like a couple of guys that the other team would GULP and maybe pee themselves just a little when they stepped out on the court.

I mean, so maybe they've done a little time, maybe they had really, really good lawyers and they have multiple tattoos - - cut that part - - - every player in the NCAA has multiple tattoos (so do i ) - but you know what I mean.

No nonsense, intimidating, DUNKING - instead of layups, swat the ball into the stands (even when it makes more sense to tip it to another player) - guys that just command respect and a little bit of fear.

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 23, 2019 06:13 PM

@HighEliteMajor No Mason status - unless he stays four years.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 23, 2019 06:09 PM

@dylans He would be fine - as long as he's 6'10", 250# and has a mean streak.....

I REALLY want a "mean streak" guy. Kansas is getting a reputation for being "soft". It's true.

Do they keep stats for technicals? I want to lead the country in technicals.

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 23, 2019 04:10 PM

@drgnslayr Am i in La-La land or was it just about one week ago that we were all contemplating throwing in the towel on KU basketball because we could never get any good commits?

2019 Transfer List • Apr 23, 2019 02:42 PM

Kerry Blackshear -"Extremely high basketball IQ, can rebound in his area, has a mean streak and toughness about him.”

This is the only guy I want. Smart and mean. Bring it.

Doke • Apr 22, 2019 07:38 PM

@approxinfinity Or maybe he could become a doctor and fix his own boo-boos...

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 18, 2019 07:54 PM

@BShark They must like Ol Roy. He is actually a pretty charming fellow. Didn't have a lot of fallout when he was at Kansas either!!

@bskeet actually, my "give a hoot" meter was down further this year than i ever remember. After the first couple of losses, and it was apparent that we weren't really a top 10 (or probably even Top 25) team - not a single loss that we incurred bothered me.

I would routinely turn the channel during a game and watch "The Voice", " " Fixer Upper ", or old reruns of "Gunsmoke". I just had no desire to watch us fall apart at the seams.

That last game against Auburn, when it was 15-5 I was done. I don't know what I did, but I knew I wasn't going to watch that garbage.

I don't expect to win the NC every year. But I would sure like to see us field a team that is competitive and keeps me watching until the end every game.

@bskeet fo shizzle.

@FarmerJayhawk Don't you think the time he's spent on the bench last season watching this team disintegrate before his eyes should be punishment enough?
