Box score fun!

How often do ALL our starters get into double figures?

OSU attempted 29 3pt shots.

And a buttload of FTs.

Playoffs • Jan 27, 2024 07:52 AM

Jeez, we have a pretty scary DNP, out and questionable list.

No Pacheco could be brutal.

I hope most of em suit up!

Hunter • Jan 26, 2024 05:31 PM

@stoptheflop said in Hunter:

KU can't afford to have Hunter on the bench with fouls in Ames. Hunter has got to stop reaching in for steals. Referees let guards reach in way too much, but when a big guy reaches in to try to steal or strip the ball, it becomes an instant foul. And, Hunter needs to stay vertical with his arms and hands when he's in the paint. It must be tempting to reach forward to try to block the shot, but Hunter just needs to let his vertically extented arms be his defense. It's good defense to just make the opponent score over Hunter, rather than have him try to block every shot.

I have a theory on Hunter’s reach-in steals…
He wants to come out of the game for a breather!

Insert angry rant here…

This is getting kind of old, losing to theoretically crap teams. I mean, WVU lost to Radford! (Among others)

Possibly the worst first half performance defensively in recent memory.

@rockchalkjayhawk Buffalo’s offense is better than the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs defense is much better than the Bills defense. The Chiefs kickers are better, the Bills punter pulled a hammy in this last game to. Should be a close game. I’m hopeful the Chiefs pull it out this time as they appear to be playing complimentary football at the moment.

Yup, I think it will be a close game, too.

Playoffs • Jan 16, 2024 05:46 AM

Chiefs at Bills. It’s settled.

In the last six games, the series is tied 3-3, with Buffalo wining three of the last four — all in Kansas City.

In 2020, the Chiefs won at Buffalo.

Waddya think?

Land Thieves Shooty Hoops • Jan 14, 2024 06:08 AM

Ha! so much for Elmarko giving Juan a rest huh. insane. still played all 40! (sorry if this has been discussed, i didn't get to read the entire thread).

Just proves what we think, Coach Self DOES NOT think. I'm gonna give us credit for having big brains, and still call it a Self-inflicted flaw.

Soooo happy that our boy Furphy was flying all over the place. Now he needs some sea legs. I can't really complain about his defense too much. He got beat a few times, but he was putting in the effort.

Stat of the game: TWO TURNOVERS!!!!! remarkable.

Not so great stat of the game: 3-15 from deep. How on earth do we keep winning games shooting so poorly from 3? I dunno.

Play of the game: Parker's alley oop slam! I can't believe he got up there and threw it down. Very nice!

Awesome win vs an athletic opponent, or guards that seemed to be athletic.

Land Thieves Shooty Hoops • Jan 13, 2024 07:55 PM

LOVE the way Furphy started the game. Foul trouble expected, sadly. That’s ok.

Land Thieves Shooty Hoops • Jan 13, 2024 07:54 PM

Maybe they’ll decide to push the Chiefs game indoors to The Fieldhouse. Could be more fan attendance?

Wait til you try Peacock! Much worse.

The Furph • Jan 13, 2024 01:23 AM

Also a bit sad for Elmarko. Other than the UCF game, I thought he had some brighter moments and was starting to get it. A tiny bit at least.

The Furph • Jan 13, 2024 01:09 AM

Furphy! Awesome. It will be interesting to see the defensive assignments with him and McCullar. At least before all the switching. I don’t remember how small and quick Oklahoma is, but that is the main concern with Furphy. Hoping at least that his arm length can keep dribblers within range. An odd argument I know, cuz I love the Furph, but this makes us even less athletic in a way. Furphy is an athlete for sure, but not small and quick.

I sure hope this helps.

And I hope Self figures out how to use Elmarko and rest Juan for a few minutes at times. Ha, then I hope that Elmarko can keep it simple. Point, pass.

This is the kinder, gentler board!

KU vs UCF Game Chat • Jan 11, 2024 04:12 AM

A few interesting tidbits from the boxscore:

FG %
KU: 51%
UCF: 42%

KU made two more FGs than UCF

KU made 6 3pters, UCF made 7

And a big reason we lost:
KU was 6-11 and UCF 14-18 from the free throw line.

UCF with SEVEN blocks. wow.

Huge shocker: KU nearly had 8 players with 10+ minutes on the court. That's not very common for KU. Maybe Self's got us beat in the brain department by not playing the bench that much usually! ha.

And the KU bench outscored UCF's bench 17-8. that is beyond shocking :)

KU at one point had a 16 pt lead. A 16 pt lead!!!!! fer effs sake.

Holy crap. That sucked.

Shocking loss. I guess Vegas knew something we didn’t.

Would have been nice if coach realized we have a 7 footer who can score if you feed him.

Juan and Kevin with absolutely lazy, pointless turnovers. So sloppy. I don’t get it. Realize you have the ball and protect it! Jeez.

Furphy! Nice.

Juan! Not so nice. In fact awful and thoughtless.

Timberlake. Just fire him. I thought that off court scuffle would do something for him, at least fire him up to not be stuffed at the rim — again. His finest moment as a Jayhawk! Wasted.

Hunter was nearly the invisible man I thought.

@kjayhawks said in Chiefs season long game thread:

@dylans yep I think this maybe the last hurrah for the chiefs ā€œdynastyā€ if you want to call it that. 8 straight division titles, 5 afc championship games, 3 Super Bowl appearances and 2 rings. Jones is gone, Sneed is likely gone, Gay, Nnadi and Allegretti are all in contract years as well several others. Just don’t see them keeping most of these guys with the cap space they have. I think they stand a chance because the defense has been one of the best since DT was roaming the field in KC. Offense will be fine if they keep down penalties and turnovers.

I’m not seeing the end of the Chiefs dynasty. If those guys leave, there should be cap space to sign replacements, right?

Sneed leaving is the biggest scare for me. He would be hard to replace.

IF the Chiefs flame out in the playoffs, the GM surely will go after some offensive game changers.

Chiefs season long game thread • Jan 08, 2024 05:12 AM

You gotta be f—-ing kidding me!

The Chiefs game is EXCLUSIVE to Peacock streaming on Saturday.

That is horseshit with a capital horse!

I’m steamed.

KU vs TCU game chat • Jan 08, 2024 01:28 AM

@DCHawker I’m all for more PT for Furphy! :)

I thought he was even aggressive with a rebound or two. Love it.

I was a bit sad that Self hooked Jamari after one nervous double dribble. Can’t grow accustomed to the game speed and intensity from the bench

And more Parker is a great idea. Give a few guys some rest. I honestly don’t get how stubborn Self can be at times. But, our scoring ability dips considerably without the 7 footer on the floor.

KU vs TCU game chat • Jan 07, 2024 06:23 PM

@kjayhawks said in KU vs TCU game chat:

@Crimsonorblue22 Nick looked good yesterday, had a couple of steals and was much better defensively. I’m kinda shocked that Jackson has a leash of 6 miles while the other youngsters have one that’s 6 inches. If he has a game like yesterday again, I’d start Timberlake or Furphy

The problem is that we desperately need Elmarko to start and improve. He’s the only athletic small we have to help guard opposing smalls. We all love us some Furphy, but he’s not that guy. Timberlake hasn’t proven to be that guy either. McCullar is great on D, but smaller quicker guys are tough to stick with.

So unless we are playing a bigger, slower team, I can’t see how Furphy starts.

And we know how Self feels about defending…

Other bball games • Jan 06, 2024 06:29 PM

Not only are the officials bad sometimes, but announcers playing officials can be worse.

Watching a minute of NC vs Clemson.

Carolina guard drives right side of lane, guarded closely, extends his left arm and elbows the defender in the gut. Defender goes down. Refs call a defensive foul. As they show the replay with dudes’s elbow clearly extended and whacking the dude in the gut…the announcer is like Yes, that’s a good call. If the offensive player would have extended his elbow, that would be offensive. But he didn’t, and kept his arm tucked.

I’m like, huh?

Chiefs season long game thread • Dec 26, 2023 08:09 PM

Well, I was prepared to write the demise of the Chiefs is upon us. It still probably is, but then I looked back at their season schedule.

Are the Chiefs the same Chiefs who could cake walk to the Super Bowl? A resounding no.

But, they’ve been mostly competitive this year, despite their issues. I think they still have a chance to win any game.

They could make some noise in the playoffs with a little luck (and some output from their offensive players). So i have some faith left, but not a ton of confidence. So, there's that. ha.

But i'll rant about the future anyway!

The prime time Chiefs don't appear to exist at the moment. The future isn't so bright. We'll need the super deluxe car wash in the offseason.

This could be it, folks. There’s lots to fix. But how long will it take to fix? And will a clearly frustrated Mahomes still want to stick around to wait? I know, seems impossibly unlikely for him to go, but who knows!

WR: Issue No. 1 for what seems like years now. Overhaul required. Unless a superstar or two join in the off-season, maybe not be a one year fix? how is it possible that they can't get even a half yard separation at times???? i'm not sure they are entirely to blame (more on that later).

TE: Something has sucked the life out of our top dawg. If he’s not able to produce, we suffer to the max. Most of our eggs are in the Kelce basket. The above mentioned WRs can’t seem to help consistently. That leaves us in a hole with a clearly aging Travis. Dude is losing his sh*t more than Mahomes. Enough with the helmet tossing! Is it all his off field activity? Commercials, super star dating and jet setting? Or just that he’s wearing down? Either way, big issues. NOT an easy fix if he is done cooking or retires. he's one of a kind.

QB: Mahomes is very clearly frustrated. I’m no expert on NFL financials, so not sure how possible it is he could want out and get out, but it seems at least a hint of a possible exit window exists. he doesn't seem pleased with anything, or anybody at the moment. Hope he sticks around and doesn't force his way out. his issues are coming to the forefront this season as well. Simple choices and mistakes seem to be his issue a lot. He cannot get on the same page with WRs. Is that his issue? Can he not throw a timing pattern? Does he need guys like Kelce who just run around til open to be successful? I dunno, but something's wrong. how can you not at least connect with a WR or two during the game? Makes no sense. He's taking some blame this season, maybe more than a little. Massive to say that, i know. But the offense is under the spotlight, and he's part of it. NOT an easy fix if he leaves. he's one of a kind.

RB: I like our group, but compared with other teams, it's a weak link. Upgrade at the No. 1 spot required. This could be a quick and easy fix with the right draft selection. (not sure i have faith in our brain trust to pick a RB at this point).

O-LINE: seems to be a mess. Upgrades/reworking required. This could also be an easy fix with a good draft selection or via free agency.

Defense: No complaints at all. The star of the Chiefs this season. Keep it up. Replace/replenish as needed.

Coaching: Hmmm. Something seems off here as well. These WRs are professionals, who have had some degree of success here or elsewhere. Something's wrong if they're failing. Generally speaking with the offensive group, are the making the wrong play calls? Stupid play calls? Idiotic play calls? I'd like to see the stats on the gadget play success/fail rate. The Mahomes fumble for a defensive TD was appalling and seemingly unnecessary. Play calling and execution. Hard to say what the dynamic is between Reid and Nagy. EASY fix with new coaching.

Anyways, stupid Chiefs. Gotta win a game to make the playoffs, probably.
