This has been known for over a week now but it's a shame that it got put out on twitter. People need to behave when it comes to players not yet in the portal that we are tampering with.

I've been thinking for years this guy would transfer to KU. Guess it finally happened -- or will happen, maybe. wink wink.

Alpha Kevin, 2023-2024 • Mar 23, 2023 04:06 AM

It’s hard to complain about KJ and his production this year. He surprised me. He’s quick enough to guard all positions, but not tall enough to guard normal bigs. He did protect the rim a tiny bit with his athleticism. So, not his fault he was playing the five. I’d say he played above expectation.

I’d prefer a true big manning the middle, with KJ playing sixth man minutes. Reckless abandon minutes!

I guess the problem is his competition. He obviously beat them out this year. I didn’t see any traditional back to the basket skill from the other two guys.

The only way I could see KJ playing the 4 next year is if we had three supreme sharp shooting smalls around the two bigs.

Chiefs Draft • Mar 23, 2023 12:03 AM

Making some progress. I'd still like to see a sturdy WR with some bulk on the roster.

A hearing? What for? Doesn’t the IARP just send down a ruling from the Gods and call it a day?

I became a fan of KU bball in Selfs first year. That was the year my wife and I started dating again. So i would say i am as much a Bill Self fan as I am a KU fan. I didnt like Roy until 2008 when he wore a Kansas pin after losing to us.

Anyway, I guess Im saying that i see everything Kansas mostly from Selfs perspective, certainly almost entirely from the perspective of the staff + the players, and thats probably why i really like the rule changes.

Welcome to the club, newbie! :)

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 21, 2023 12:14 AM

Dang, i was worried about shooting 3s before this season began.

Next season i'm scared poopless about simply scoring!

We better have the 1990 UNLV Runnin' Rebels team ready to use up some eligibility at KU! We'll only need to score a few FTs to win games :)

One down with Cam Martin out the door.

We hardly knew ya...

Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft" • Mar 20, 2023 06:25 PM

Do i think that we would have had a better chance to win with Coach Self at the helm? Of course.

But, no need to rag on Norm.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge 2023 • Mar 19, 2023 02:55 AM

The current last place team (50th) can max out with more points than the current 1st place team (me!)!

Pretty funny.

Hog Wild Game Thread • Mar 19, 2023 02:45 AM

And i admit i need to go back to watch the final few possessions of the game, but WTF happened??? Why did Jalen choose to go for a 2 pt basket when we were down 3 with seconds to go??? Did they intentionally foul us up top before a shot could be taken?

Hog Wild Game Thread • Mar 19, 2023 02:41 AM

Well, a strange boxscore today. You could glance and think KU would have won. Higher FG%, more 3s made. Both good signs.

But a closer looks tells the story IMO.

Arkansas took 8 more shots than KU.

Arkansas had a big advantage on offensive boards -- 15-7.

And those stats likely lead to the difference in the game: 2nd chance points -- 15-2.

Arkansas also outrebounded KU 36-29.

Damn! i'm still pissed!

I actually think Udeh is stupidly athletic. He just needs time/growth

I'm sure the college kids can find some sorta drink game based on how quickly Udeh fouls when he gets in the game! ha. I like his energy. He's just a young big. Sasha was a fouling machine for nearly four years, so time to grow.

I still can't fathom how you pull Gradey right after he hits his first 3. Obviously I'm not a D1 coach but I just can't justify it

Coaches have been pretty consistent getting him some rest. So, who knows. Gradey 2.0 next year would be much better, on the floor more prolly.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge 2022! • Mar 18, 2023 11:56 PM

Well that sucks. pretty pathetic second half with Harris dinged and KJ out.

Seemed obvious the defense let up with Harris hobbled. And he gave up a few chances at the rim he usually would take.

Highly disappointed in this outcome. Jalen with only NINE shot attempts. that's bad.

Just didn't need to lose this game. highly winnable.

Eff.

Delete this thread, please! Bad mojo.

Victory!

I’ll take it. Any win in March is a good win.

Agreed that it was odd not seeing MJ. I really thought Norm would put him in.

I also thought he’d sub out a few guys much sooner when the game was in hand. Harris in particular.

Chiefs Draft • Mar 16, 2023 04:38 PM

Looking around at the free agent WRs…no real No 1s out there.

Not an amazing group left on the board. DJ Chark seems like the top name now.

We need a bigger guy, don’t we?

Huggy losing at the half.

4 seed Virginia being tested.

Ju Ju has signed with Patriots, 3 years $33M.

I was hoping that he gets resigned by Chiefs who are now thin at WR position.

Toney, MYS and Sky are the 3 main receivers. Hardman is most likely gone.

This draft class is weak on WRs.

Veatch has to find at least one more starting WR.

I can't find the dislike button! Bummed to see Ju Ju move on.

@AsadZ said in Chiefs Draft:

Chiefs have signed 49ers DE, Charles Omenihu, worth up to $20M, former fifth-round pick out of Texas in the 2019 draft.

I like the move to create depth and competition, cannot have enough DE/DL.

Also, Forston has been offered an ER FA.

Separately, FB Burton has reunited with Sean Payton in Denver.

Omenihu is a depth play. Not a superstar for sure, but rotational. Watched him and the 49ers D line a lot, living in the Bay Area. Don't necessarily like the domestic violence tag.

Yea, i'm scared for him!

More thoughts on EJ:

I'm not discounting his "better human than me" nature. The nut punch was my only sour thought on EJ, but for that he simply doesn't make my list of all time favorites, that's all. not shitting on him otherwise.

ooh, not sure about that EJ choice. Any KU player who punches somebody in the nuts during a game is instantly downgraded!

Exactly. I hate singling out any player but the Michigan game really soured my opinion of EJ, in spite of the overall good career he had at KU. The nut punch, missed free throws and turnovers the last minute of game cost us another shot at a championship - that team was really rolling at the end of the year.

Ya, very unfortunate. I liked Elijah otherwise, until he was asked to be the PG, which he wasn't.

Sherron Collins

Paul Pierce

Kirk Hinrich

Off the top, the East bracket looks the toughest to emerge from.

West is second.

@BeddieKU23 said in Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats):

@StLJhawk

Yes is such a poor set shot shooter and the ones he missed were bigger then the few he made. He misses way too many shots, mostly wide open, in the flow of the offense where motion and passing have created the opportunity and its maddening. One of the big weaknesses of this team is its shooting and more specifically the lack of outside threats we have outside 2 guys. Juan is hard to include since he doesn't look to shoot them often. A good example was MJ Rice making a 3 off dribble penetration yesterday. He hadn't made a 3 since November. Yes is 10/40 from 3 since late January including 5/22 recently, that's awful. Whether it's Kev, Yes, MJ or someone else that wing/guard that's often open on the weakside has killed a lot of good offense all year

Yup, that was pretty much my main concern going into the season. Shooters, or lack of. Oddly, Last I looked (awhile ago) the team numbers were actually comparable to some of Self’s previous teams.

Oh, and when we lose, we don’t f*ck around, we LOSE. It’s true, we have a very thin margin with this team. Most of our cylinders have to be working.

Ugh, that was ugly. It all turned south with about 3 minutes left in the first half. I think we were leading at that point?

Everybody pretty much covered the issues today. The basics to me were pretty basic…we went to the foul line like 6 times? That’s bad. We can’t have both Gradey and Dajuan suck in the same game. Need points from somebody other than Wilson. Boy has Dajuan been sloppy the last few. Bad decision making, too. Gotta nip that in the bud.

Well, I guess Kevin is an important part of the defense! Just an embarrassment with the defensive effort today.

I like how Norm uses the bench. Nice to see some guys get minutes. A bit sad to see that neither Bobby nor MJ have a clue though. Honestly, how can Bobby be this bad? I wince when he has the ball.

But I still smile when Udeh does anything! A ray of sunshine :)

Onward, and hopefully upward.

@Crimsonorblue22 said in McCullar:

@rockchalkjayhawk we do have the best medical staff! Don’t think they’d let him play if it would further injure him.

I just want to see him back to full health for the tourney. The Big 12 title means a lot, but less to me than the tourney crown.

And they did let him play, but unfortunately saw him come out midway thru the game, where he reinjured himself. So, knowing that I’d hope more mature brains would see the bigger picture and sit him. Kids will do anything to play, as I would. (I hid a broken ankle from a coach once so I could play!)

Backs don’t get better by playing basketball, with all the twisting and turning.

@Crimsonorblue22 that’s just crazy talk :)

I dunno how I’ve turned into the Back spasm expert, but they don’t get better without rest, recovery and hands on work. So he can for sure make it worse, and it appears he did!

Who would ever replace Self? • Mar 11, 2023 05:53 AM

@BShark said in Who would ever replace Self?:

Watching Norm has me pining for Self if anything. He certainly has a higher tolerance for mistakes for better or worse.

And a much higher tolerance for MJ! :)

Although I was happy to see him play, despite his play.

Boowa State Game Thread • Mar 11, 2023 05:51 AM

Nice win today. The guys seemed fairly relaxed, huh. I’m honestly surprised the way they have won two games so far without Self. I thought that would be a tough, emotional task.

There was some sloppy play for sure today, but maybe that’s just back to back games?

Udeh! When he stole the ball mid court and made his way to the rim, I was rolling on the floor. Awesome energy! Need that from him.

Microwave Joe Game Thread • Mar 11, 2023 05:40 AM

My recording worked today. Musta been a coding glitch or something.

McCullar • Mar 11, 2023 05:38 AM

Why he was playing is a mystery to me!
And Big surprise, he hurt his back again…stupido move by the coaches to let him play.
He better be 100 for the big dance.

@BeddieKU23 said in Boowa State Game Thread:

In a perfect world yeah rest him.

I think Kevin is showing he wants to play through it and be with his team, making an impact. That's why he came here and if the trainers are letting him play then we might as well get all he's got. He was fabulous yesterday considering

Ya, there's no bravado with backs, no matter how young you are. If there's an option, the smart move is to rest and recover and build up any weakness so you can shine on the big stage. I'd be the same, wanting to play, but the adults in the room should realize the NCAAs are the big prize.

Who knows. If it's only a mild tweak, bring it!

Boowa State Game Thread • Mar 10, 2023 07:20 PM
