Jeez, game doesnāt even seem important anymore, huh.
Oh man. Scary.

@Kcmatt7 I don't think Udeh gets less than 25 minutes a game next year. KJ will be playing Post and wing 3. I would be SHOCKED if we don't see KJ playing alongside Udeh for extended minutes.
Iām the oppositeā¦Iād be shocked if KJ and Udeh started together. I dunno how you can afford to have two non threats from deep on the floor in the modern game.
Iāll take credit for this one!
Felt the good juju after learning he played down the street from my family in SoCal.

No KU alums?
Ha, we already had that discussion in another thread. oddly i can't find it now, and i think i started it!
Interesting...the Chiefs decided to NOT franchise tag Orlando Brown.
So, we're in the market for a new blindside protector!
Interesting that Harris is named the best defender in the league, but doesn't even make the first, second, or third team. crazy!
This had absolutely nothing to do with today's outcome, but will Pettiford ever put it together? Does he have the skill to stick around even as a back up?
Seems to do nothing but dribble into trouble and turn it over for a run out.
@BeddieKU23 said in 2024 recruiting thread:
Adams now ranked #29th after today's update in the 24 class.
Why he moved: Out on the West Coast, nobody in the class of 2024 made a bigger impression for a move up the rankings than Marcus Adams Jr. did. A 6-foot-8 wing with the ability to play inside or out, he's got plus athleticism, deep range on his jumper and some real swagger to the way he plays the game. The buzz began with some monster performances for Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne during the fall and then Adams spent the winter lighting up scoreboards all across Southern California. There's a chance that he could end up reclassifying to 2023 but for now he's planning to play during the spring and summer and if what he did during the high school season translates, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him make another leap.
Ha, Iāve driven by his high school a lot, as my mom lives a block or two away. If I head down there soon Iāll stop by and give him a pitch to become part of the Jayhawk family!
Ha. I was wondering what that crazy stuff in the sky was!
Impressed that J Wil is so composed. Great speech.

@BeddieKU23 I think his ability to rebound and run should be pretty valuable to some NBA teams that value playing fast/positionless basketball.
Rebound and run. that's his super power for sure.

@rockchalkjayhawk thank you. I was coming up with Jeff Graves
Gravey Train!
I saw a photo of Black the other day I think, so helped my memory.
Iām with ya, one year players and transfers donāt stick in the brain that long.
@dylans said in Kev/Jalen Last Home Game:
@rockchalkjayhawk I remember freshmen better than transfers. Unique name helps.
Who was the big guy (Memphis?) transfer that played with McLemore? He was a nice young man, looked intimidating, had a cup of coffee with the Lakers. Likable as could be, above average player and I canāt remember his name. - one year rentals. I could never be a fan of a team like Kentucky that is mostly comprised of short term players.
Tariq Black.
@dylans said in Kev/Jalen Last Home Game:
@BeddieKU23 I will miss Jalen! It was great watching him go from redshirt to the star player on the team!!! I have much love for anyone that puts that much work and effort into being a Jayhawk!!!
One year players are hard to remember a year or two down the line. I almost forgot about Remmy the other day it took me an hour to figure out who he was at the game. McCullar will be the same way. Iāll forget about him by the end of next year. Gradeyā¦well I still remember Xavier so Iām betting I remember him vaguely in a decade.
Of course if Gradey turns out to be an NBA star, maybe his name will stick in that memory a bit longer :)
Jeez, I didnāt even realize the Graham was moved to the Spurs.
Looks like his 3pt shooting didnāt work out as the Pelicans had hoped.
On the bright side, he earned about $12M this year alone.

I didnāt mean on that particular play. Stevenson obviously fell on him, but it was already injured earlier
Harris sprained ankle. McCullar sprained ankle. Zuby severely sprained ankle. Half the team is gimpy. Either itās equipment or training or just terrible luck. I canāt remember this many limping Jayhawks.
McCullar is basically permanently injured according to Tech fans.
I don't think this is a Michigan State situation (lots of data on this point with foot injuries and their staff) and we've had previous years with the current staff and no issues. So I think just bad luck.
Ankles happen. And Iām sure most of us know that once you sprain it, the next time is just on the horizon.
I assume all ankles are taped for games? Iāll have to look more closely next game. Thereās only so much you can do in that area to strengthen. Cutting and jumping in crowds doesnāt help.
Note to self (me, not Bill): donāt watch KU-West Virginia games late before bed.
@BShark said in 2023 Recruiting:
@rockchalkjayhawk Let's follow his career. I am not the biggest fan. More than that, I think Udeh will be better next year. I think if they look at a big it should be a transfer that is ready to immediately contribute.
Hard to argue, but itās always nice to have a 7 footer as an option on the floor. Our bigs donāt have that size.

Dennis Evans back on the board. I doubt KU gets back involved, but you never know.
Yeah not sure how he would fit next season at all.
Sharky, you don't see how a 7-foot-1 center would fit in next season??? A top 20, shot blocking, rim-protecting big?
that's just crazy talk. :)
NBA style 1980s short shorts? Doh!
And itās hard to say if weāll ever miss Cuffe. Never really had a chance to evaluate his game. He certainly came in with some East Coast hype.
@BeddieKU23 said in Kyle Cuffe:
There is actual talk of McCullar having a chance in this year's draft. He may go unsigned, but he's been gaining attention as of late where he might entice someone in the 2nd round or get one of those 2-way deals.
Has the Covid year to use so NIL could be a factor here along with potentially having an even bigger role on next season's team. Perhaps he gets feedback again that pushes him to grind another year?
I'm not expecting he returns at this point but would absolutely love if he did. I think this one will be worth monitoring.
Is there a comparable player in the NBA for McCullar?

@BeddieKU23 said in Alabama's Brandon Miller:
Knowing what we know about the NCAA would you want to report anything to them? Certainly not justifying Alabama here, speaking in general of how strained the relationship between Universities & the NCAA is right now.
You know, I wasnāt even thinking about the NCAA when I wrote that. I donāt want to bog down this lively discussion with NCAA chat, so I was simply saying in that one sentence that schools canāt be trusted to do the right thing IMO.
wow. i didn't read much about this when it happened, but it sure got a lot more interesting.
I have no clue what Alabama's gun laws are, but surely providing a loaded weapon for a murder has to be some sort of crime for Miller, right? Deliberately as well. Was asked to bring it, and he HAD to know the situation, and brought it.
All over a girl not wanting to talk to one of the guys? man. maybe there's more to the story i haven't read, but that's nuts.
It's sad to say, but the older i get, the more i feel (and read) that universities all across the country have zero transparency mostly. Lots of stuff they try to sweep under the rug.
Coach's initial statement was idiotic, plain and simple. zero clue. protect and defend.
If Miller was truly involved in a shooting death as detailed, that's more than a suspension. way more. No way i'd want that guy representing my university.
U-G-L-Y! But we'll take it, right?
Anyway, very happy to pick up a road win. that helps, a lot.
That certainly wasn't pretty for either team. Defense! The perfect Self game?
I never really felt that TCU was a real threat tonight. Wasn't really sweating it, despite the score.
The challenge was simply being able to make a basket or two. Lid was closed for Jalen tonight. He was even forcing it a lot (offensive charge).
A bit surprising we won if you look at the individual play in the boxscore. If we win, and Jalen only has 7, i sure expect to see Dajuan with 12 or so. not tonight. I guess Kevin came through as our secondary scorer behind Gradey.
I only look at boxscores from KU games, so hard to say how sustainable it will be playing only 6 guys in double digit minutes. TCU played 8 guys in double digit minutes. Do other teams only play just 6 guys, too? Jalen sure didn't seem himself. Tired?
Way to go Hawks. We're still in the race for first place! Rock Chalk!

Iām open to all, except maybe Jesse Marsch. I think his style makes it hard for players to buy in to the system.
I donāt personally think that some of the BIG names from Europe are good fits either. They are used to a talent pool and skill level that the US probably canāt equal.
Yeah, all good points. The revolution may be led by someone who is not televised.
totally!

Man, i'm rooting so hard for Leeds to succeed, but they just can't win a match.
They gave up one of the shittiest goals i've seen today against lowly Everton to lose. It was like the goalie was taking a nap with the ball near the box. Zip, right by him.
Would suck to see Adams and McKennie (and aaronsen) have to find new teams after demotion.
Holy smokes! Wow, what a tale of two halves.
It wasn't looking good for our lackluster team in the first half. I was sweating that before the game, hoping the Dejuan and Kevin and their iffy ankles could muster the effort needed to stay with the Baylor guards.
Everybody sure as hell fired up the intensity level in the 2nd half. Amazing. Why couldn't we start like that????!!!
You see where Baylor was starting their offensive sets in the 2nd!!! Nearly half court! awesome effort.
Udeh is growing on me. Love his effort.

Always nice to get out of Stillwater with a win. Self has to be pleased.
Very impressed that Gradey has been involving himself in all corners of the court. And he did some scoring! awesome.
And if McCullar can post up, get to the rim, that changes my expectations for him. He played well last night, too.
I'm grateful that Joe made a few shots. Anybody met or covered Joe as a reporter? I'm wondering if he's an intelligent kid. Just doesn't seem like he's very smart for some reason.
@kjayhawks said in Superbowl Game Thread:
I think that penalty was a little weak but I also think thatās the only call KC got. They missed an obvious PI in the first quarter that stalled the chiefs second drive, got away with a fumble touchdown that shouldāve counted and had a very questionable catch stand. I think the eagles got 3 of 4 questionable calls tonight.
There were some not very good calls in this game. a few that went against the Chiefs for sure. I'm not a guy who harps on the refs normally, but i didn't care for a few that were even reviewed.
So, the last call helped for sure, but it was not the only iffy call of the night.

I wouldn't say it's ideal but another year gives you 10-14 pts ppg tons of rebounds, steals and headachesš
As long as he doesn't get Jalen/Ochai volume of shots I'm fine with it... begrudgingly.
I don't have any doubts Self could find 2-3 wings in the portal if needed but Kev would be a solid returnee next year with KJ/Juan in the starting lineup.
We definitely don't have a go-to guy on the roster right now for next season at guard/wing like we've had (if Kev does leave). I know KJ has ascended but he's got no range and projecting him to become a shooter in one off-season is dreamland.
I'm basically saying I'm really concerned about next year's roster and who's going to be the guy that scores points. There just isn't that option staring us in the face right now.
Oddly I had that concern about this yearās roster. Still do!

It aināt rocket science, huh. Other guys gotta score to get our point total beyond Jalensās 20. I hope these secondary scorers finally realize itās key to winning.
Well, the big question:
Is this the rotation we can expect moving forward? Will Joe and MJ continue to get minutes where they can show results?
I'd be fine with most of that. We still need a guy who can get us into our offense when Dajuan is out. Joe had a good game, but he's not that guy. Glad to see him have success on the offensive side of things for sure though. Is that a good trade off? we do need a guy who can make things happen with individual effort at times.

Yeah the injury. Been a weird one given Self keeps saying he isn't able to play right before games or even at halftime of games.
That play doesn't paint a picture he's giving his all out there when given the chance, injured or not.
I was really hoping this situation would work out.
Sorry to sidetrack this Texas post with more on MJā¦but we got time before the game, right? :)
He sure was hyped and had a great scouting report from 247:
āHis effort however goes beyond scoring. He has a nose for the ball on the glass and after snatching boards he has the ball skills to lead the break to make something happen. Throughout this past year, Rice has been one of the more consistently productive prospects in the national 2022 class. He has the body and skill set to make an immediate impact in the college game if that is the route he decides to move forward with.ā
And from MJ:
I donāt like banging in the post because Iām a shooting guard. I would say where I mostly feel comfortable is at the 1-through-3, but if Iāve got a smaller guy on me I wonāt even hesitate to take him in the paint and just kill him. I wonāt hesitate. On defense I can definitely guard every position, thatās my strongest point on defense, my versatility.Somethingās not adding up.
I would like to take credit for MJās performance tonight. Obviously he took my motivational reminder that he had the hype seriously! Ha. Nicely done!
So many good things happened tonight! Impressive game.
MJ! He lives! Was he brilliant? No. Was he playable and exciting, with effort? Hell yes! Heās got that second and third quick hop gene. :) soooo happy to see that. Thanks, Bill, for giving him extended playing time.
McCullar had his best offensive play of the year tonightā¦that 360 layup in the lane. Please, please, please letās see more of this aggression. Fantastic game.
Loved the bench minutes!
