So did Zach's poor defense hurt us more than his way better than expected offense? Zach is still our high scorer
24 fouls called on KU. 14 on WV
Since Kentucky lost today, KU is going to increase its lead in all time wins to 8; +4 so far this year. RC
Still only 3 bench shot attempts; 4 pts.
Bring Gradey in even though he has 3 fouls. He needs to shoot & shoot
15 fouls on KU; 8 on WV. I think we see the pattern Big 12.
Improbably, KJ's 12 pts ties for KU's high scorer.
Gradey 3/3, 10 pts. He's just got to shoot more
Only 2 shot attempts by the bench-Joe of course. Only 2 bench points.
KJ is 6/8 from the line
Flop
KJ is struggling
KU 62% shooting; 75% from 3
4 fouls KU; 0 WV
I sure hope the Chiefs have the Raiders beaten by the time KU starts at 5. Crazy week in the NFL. Morgantown is always extra tough for KU.
I wonder how much Bryce would be contributing if he had stayed. Bryce is averaging 11.5 pts. I don't think he'd be in our top 7, so not many minutes with us.
Close now. I sure hope Jalen Daniels has a great game.

Not a lot of fans at the Mizzou bowl.
I sure hope attendance is much better at our Liberty Bowl game than Missouri's bowl game yesterday. The attendance looked like a USFL game. The crowd was shown as 29,000, but looked much smaller in the 66,000 seat Raymond James stadium. It sure seems to me that enthusiasm for all these bowl games has really dropped. I haven't watched a whole game yet. I was really disappointed that Baylor played so poorly against Air Force after beating us so easily.
I wish KU football would provide more reports on preparation for our first bowl game since the Dec 31, 2008 Insight Bowl victory over Minnesota. I'd like to read/hear more about Daniels and Hishaw. KU is 6/12 in bowl games so I hope to see us go over .500 with a big win over Arkansas.
Harvard sucks at the 3 ball and out shot us in the first half. Why do we even schedule a game before the Christmas break?
Will Zuby get lots of minutes or will Coach give someone else the opportunity at the backup 5?

I was surprised JWil got that many minutes when I saw him taking breathers during the game. For whatever reason, he didn't seem to have as much energy as usual. A few times I saw him jog back on defense, even when the ball was ahead of him. I'm sure it will be brought up when they watch game film later... but I thought that would have been time to substitute him with MJ.
I too remember Jalen taking a possession off on defense; he didn't run down court, he didn't challenge the player with the ball but instead left the player to guard the corner. That reminds me of NBA-minded Andrew Wiggins, who seemed to glide through the first 30 minutes of the game, then got more aggressive at the end. Jalen wasn't our dog Saturday and seemed content to just watch the game from the floor. I'm sure the big lead had a lot to do with his complacency.

Amazing how our 5-spot looks so good now that we are getting into a real offense. And for every play we run that finishes with a KJ dunk... he just gets that much more pumped up and kickin' arse!
Yes... we look fast and a big part of that is fast ball movement!
This team learns fast and the sky is the limit this year with this team! Might end up being even better than last year's team! Might...
Depth is still an issue as we basically only went 7 deep in a game that wasn't particularly close. Especially when the announcers were talking about Self developing the depth on the bench a bit and to not see it happen in a game that wasn't particularly close is concerning. Rice should've played some more today, especially with Wilson struggling with his shooting today and it would've been nice to see Yesufu get some more minutes today as well. It looks like the back up 5 spot is still going to be by committee based on match ups.
This would be my one gripe from the game today as this was KU's most complete game so far this season.
Bobby and Zuby got a bunch of minutes today. 21 bench pts is a big improvement.
Dajuan sat out much of the first half with 2 fouls aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand ended the game with just 2 fouls. But, it was a good opportunity for Bobby to get some minutes.
Wilson is just 4/14.
Gradey not scoring in the second half is really starting to bother me. Come on Coach, get a couple of plays in so he breaks through the drought.
Zuby didn't look especially athletic under the rim, but his 4 first half pts really help.
Good minutes and 6 pts from Bobby, but he has a ways to go to be competent at the point.
If we play to well, we are going to drop in the stupid polls again.
I'm reminded of Carlton Bragg's arrest. Many people rushed to judgment on him, then the fraternity house's video clarified the situation. I try to wait for the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would have said.
Kevin had a nice game too: 8/12 for 21 pts. Nice scoring by our starters and Dejuan doing just what he's supposed to do to make this team rock.

2 years of playing this ymca for the blind squad. Perhaps we should upgrade
I really enjoy the rivalry. KU in Columbia packed their house. I say keep it going.
I didn't see anything from Cam Martin that gave me hope for an improvement at the 5. KJ it is: 19 pts., 6 rbs., 2 steals and a block. RC

Every big but KJ does things that immediately remind you why KJ is starting the 5 at 6’6 lol
KJ showed me tonight why he is our best option at the 5. Very good night for KJ
Only 2 second half pts by the bench. Hopefully that will change in the last 3 minutes.
By far, this is our best offensive game. So many passes to wide open layups. Way to go hawks.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Border War Game Thread:
@stoptheflop they should just leave him in the gym shooting at half time.
Nerf ball and goal in the locker room for Gradey
Yep, Gradey is 0 for the second half.
Jalen is having a quiet game: Only 6 shot attempts and 7 points. 3 of which came of a Gradey assist.
Anyone else concerned about the lack of bench scoring? Joe's 4 is all the bench scored.
I'm glad this game still means something to Missouri fans. Sold out arena and plenty of student enthusiasm
I'm pretty sure Gradey is energized by the rivalry. Now, I hope he brings the fire to the second half
@Jethro said in Over Under:
We're favored by 3.5.
I sure think our #6 ranked team will beat Missery by more than 3.5 pts. We just need Jalen to take good shots and finish at the rim, Gradey to shoot and score for two halves, Kevin to keep that 3 stroke going and Dajuan to play his game-not the style so many others think he should play. Then, just maybe MJ will play some quality minutes on offense and our 5 spot will hold steady. We got this.
I can't believe TCU ran the same hand off on third and fourth downs in OT right into the line. When a play doesn't work, why do some OCs repeat the same play? KU did this too many times when our offense was struggling; ran the ball into the defensive line for little gain. I sure hope TCU will still get into the playoffs.
So, KU vs Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl? Who will be joining me in the stands?
3 starters with goose eggs. Come on now.

They say KU is down FOUR Scholarship players - -who is the fourth ?. - Were down Pettiford - - --Martin - - McCullar - -who is the Fourth ?
Cuffe is also out
I like that there are Texas students courtside at mid-court. Not the old folks that are seated next to our court.
@drgnslayr What's the deal with Gradey's scoring disappearing in the second half? If he's not going to score, maybe he just plays the first half and a bench player or several get more minutes in the second half. I sure like his first half scoring though. I doubt it's conditioning that inhibits Gradey's second half scoring. Gradey's just the opposite of Wiggins, who really turned on his scoring at the 30 minute mark of the game.
Nope our Jayhawks will rise to the challenge and whip Ole Ricky Barnes, just like when he coached at Tx.
