@HighEliteMajor I hate to agree with you. But i'm leaning toward being concerned.

Incompetent? I'll see your "incompetence" and raise you a non-existent, maybe at least a barely. I've never seen a KU team with little to no fire power. Dotson is not enough. Ochai has got to shoot more. Tristan looked promising. Christian tried and seemed somewhat confident in his attempts. Nova looked a bit more like KU should look, minus hucking up so many. I really thought Silvio would be a match up nightmare. Right now, he seems to be digressing.
We just don't have much of an answer. BU beat this Nova team? I don't know if this causes me concern or encouragement.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 22, 2019 12:30 PM

@BigBad You realize Nova shot 24% to our 23% from the arc? The arc was not the ultimate problem in this game. I disagree. You live and die by the arc. If Nova hits half of those misses, and some of their misses were really close, this game could've been lopsided. We just don't have enough fire power. I don't get it. Self or players are so conservative or hesitant. Nova's inside game was to mug and hack Doke.
If Doke and Dave hit their bunnies, and or we make maybe 1-2 of those missed Fts, this game is different. Overall, Self's game plan worked, we just lost a key piece early in the game. This was a fluke of a loss.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 22, 2019 12:18 PM

@nuleafjhawk Its early and I think we all knew it was likely short lived. We played like crap, lost a key player, and still lost by 1 in a really tough environment. It hurts, but not too bad.
The rankings are more for the writers to play their games. They actually had KU losing before they even took the spot. I really don't care and we all say it every year, but we still get hooked on the #1 spot. March and April are all that matters.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 22, 2019 12:14 PM

@Big-Clyde52 I track you completely. Doke has GOT to improve. I've never seen a more horrible FT shooter, other than Shaq, and his problem is between his ears.
Christian hits his FTs, Dotson hits the front end of his 1-1, they eek it out on the road. But this is their first rough road test. They did some things right on the road in a really rough environment. They need to refocus and put this game behind them.
Another definition of a good loss. You had losing to Nova, I had losing at all. But at least it was a top 20 team, on the road, hostile environment, and Garrett would've been the difference.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 22, 2019 12:07 PM

@Big-Clyde52 I could think of many other bad losses. Let's hope this ugly play against top 20 teams get worked out now. This is my definition of a good loss.
See UNC, Puke, MSU, UK...feeling better? I am.

EMPEROR OF BASKETBALL • Dec 22, 2019 12:02 PM

@jhawk7782 Hell, why not huck up enough bricks. You make enough and win? Who cares? They won bricks and all. This Nova team lives and dies by the trey. It will not serve them well in most games. That shot by Samuels was the luckiest dumbass shot all day. They were shooting way too many 3s.
KU didn't look comfortable at all. Garrett had to be the difference. Nova pretty much knew if a key player leaves the court, they sneak a win at home. But of all the stupid crap in this game, I gotta give Nova fans credit, they didn't rush the court.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 21, 2019 07:19 PM

Nova Game Thread • Dec 21, 2019 07:18 PM

Nova didn't win as the better team, they were lucky. They missed treys all game and I knew that Samuels was going to hit a trey.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 21, 2019 07:17 PM

Geez, I hate Nova

Nova Game Thread • Dec 21, 2019 07:16 PM

@jayballer73 Pretty much and your bigs can't miss bunnies.

Nova Game Thread • Dec 21, 2019 07:15 PM

@jayballer73 KU played awful and when a glue player goes down due to ankle, it doesn't help. I watched Nova foul twice during those last few minutes. The black ref watched Gillespie reach in all game. Bey climbed backs all game and should've fouled out. The last play was a foul on Bey for the bump. Both refs, baseline and top of the key watched Dotson drive and Bey fouled him twice on that drive.
Kinda hard to win on the road when you play like shit and the refs won't make calls. We're lucky we got what we did.

@approxinfinity Mitch and Garrett lol. Two beasts this year. Probably a bit unfair to Garrett, who I think is a better player than Mitch.

I totally agree. Garrett is your back court glue and will definitely school the others, with Dotson.

Mitch will be invaluable in the front court with the bigs.

Check out this pic of Garrett. He's been spending time with Hudy. That boy be Reeeeeped. Check out his arms. Dang the last few years he looked like a little boy. Dude has become a damn man in a Summer. It's amazing what Hudy-izing can do to a playa.

@truehawk93 No worries. I was wondering where the miscommunication was though, because it definitely felt like we weren't talking about the same thing.

Agree that Juwan is unproven and we will see if he can coach much. Jury is still out on Penny as well.

I can't wait to see what Penny does with his talent. I am amazed at who he has lured. I predict he has more than he can handle. He won't be able to translate. He will underachieve and Memphis will expect huge results. He will have 1-3 seasons, and he will likely be on the hot seat.

This my friends is interesting. Look at your older player/coaches and the success they've had as coaches. Then, look at your younger, NBA coaches lately that are coaching in college. They don't transition well. Many of the current player/coaches that have a fair record struggle. I just don't see Howard and Hardaway making much of a showing. Players don't necessarily make good coaches, even if they played in the NBA.

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 14, 2019 02:11 PM

I would definitely agree that Jayhawk Nation needs to get off Snack's back. He's done a great job.

Whoa...I think we are confusing Howards...LOL...I'm addressing Juwan Howard at Michigan, NOT Snacks. I think you all are complimenting Snacks on his role with Wilson, and YES definitely great work.

I'm addressing Juwan Howard and the fact that his being a new player/coach gave Snacks and KU a great advantage. Hardaway at Memphis is interesting because he has been by far the most influential player/coach to have recruiting success.

Sorry, I confused the Howard discussion.

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 14, 2019 01:51 PM

@BShark I feel you and would tend to agree on Enarauna, but he's not even stepped foot on the court and you have him gone in 1-2 years? Maybe, but he's a huge challenge for your rotation right now in the front court. Geez if what your saying is a strong likelihood, we could lose our entire front court next season.

So, he develops this year? Gone after 2nd yr?

We lose Doke, SDS, and likely Big Mac...yikes. This would leave Enarauna as the lone returning front court big with a year of coming off the bench for Self.

I'm a little concerned. I would tend to present it to him. He might be willing to stay 3 yrs...1 RS and maybe 2 starting? He could jump after his junior year. I hate to say it, but Doke's injuries will encourage players to jump regardless. We all know players should stay at least 2-3 years, but NBA is just too tempting.

That dude is on the path to becoming a head coach, no doubt in my mind. I would guess he ends up a serious contender for the Depaul job the next time it opens up.

BUT HE MISSED ON SOME GUYS LIKE EVERYONE DOES. lol

He got Dave and Marcus too.

This year I know Roberts was on Enaruna. Don't remember who was on Braun and McBride but it probably could have been you or me...

He's not proven yet.

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 14, 2019 01:43 PM

Absolutely and unfortunately, his coming out of RS really put a challenge in the rotation. I certainly meant no insult or message at all. He certainly will factor. I would even consider RS Braun?

I would then factor OA into Garrett's minutes. I could see Garrett in the middle of those zones. I saw a pic in one of the kusports pieces and he has spent time in the gym with Hudy. He has some bulk.

First guess without looking at last year's minutes:

Dot 31 (we have depth, can preserve him)

Garrett 26 (Pet. D leader. Good dude. We will beat teams bad enough to let this happen.

Ochai 25

Silvio (Doke will need rest and Wilson isn't ready) 25

Doke 26 (unless hurt)

Moss 22

Dave 17 (unless Doke hurt)

Wilson 7

McBride 7

Mitch 7

Enanura 3

Wave The Wheat 1

Also, I agree more with your numbers in big games. Except Wilson.

Wilson should be a bit of a match up challenge in the 3--4. He has the "scoring" prowess that Self loves in that 4 role that Self willed Mario Little and Vick into over the years. We need someone that can get in the middle of those ZONES and bust them open. I think Wilson will be about right. But then, he has the range to step out around the arc. It would make sense to play small ball with him at the 4. I would then go big by putting him at the 3. We all know Self has been forced into small ball, and will go to that when needed. Actually I'd say Self has had some significant results with small ball.

Small:

Dotson/McBride - 6' and change

Moss - 6-4

Garrett/Braun 6-5,8

Wilson 6-8

SDS/Enarauna 6-9 Feels good writing SDS in the line up.

Big:

Garrett/Dotson

Moss/Garrett

Wilson/Braun (?) Really curious to see how Braun factors.

SDS

Doke/Big Mac

Does anyone think 'maybe' Enarauna takes a RS? Even remotely? I hope Self isn't RS shy, but he seems the odd possibility, at least from my standpoint.

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 14, 2019 12:36 PM

Excellent...welcome Mr Wilson, I've been wanting to say that for a while now. Great job Self and Co. Let's get to work and make the most of the deep talent we have now. Let's make this year count. Also, let's not get caught up in the rhetoric of preseason.

@Texas-Hawk-10
The kid did this basically his second semester out of high school, high school. TRob was on a strong roster his freshman year with the Morri and Withey. Then he went and got bigger.

Let's see what SDS does after this crazy NCAA mess of a suspension. He's been practicing too. He should pick up where he left off. I just hope Hudy has worked him too during the "suspension." I use that term lightly too, "suspension." It was more like a screw-spension.

I don't care what anyone thinks. Glad he's back and it's going to be exciting with our nasty front court.

I totally agree...let SDS loose at the 4 and watch him work.

Yeah, the agent is called a lawyer to protect his interests. Doesn’t appear the NCAA wants to protect a student athlete. This kid WANTS to play and continue his NCAA education. The NCAA should be helping, not discouraging him.

@kjayhawks
Nope and Puke’s crooked lawyers will manipulate all they can to prevent Puke from facing bad press or damage their precious brand. Puke does whatever it wants and they have someone or a group of people protecting them. Remember what K said? This whole thing is a “blip” to him. Translation...we will not be harmed and this is no big deal because I have immunity. It was a stupid slip. Then he corrected himself and covered his comment. That little word “blip” meant they are dirty, but they will not get caught.

Yet Self and Townsend get screwed? And the NCAA uses all the Adidas desperate claims against KU coaches?

KU must fight this and Emmert needs to resign. He is a joke for college b-ball. He’s creating a mess and the courts will not allow any of the FBI evidence against the remaining programs?

And Silvio didn’t play. He was also declared ineligible and likely will not be overturned? Bray is concerned about credibility? Sorry, you’re all a bunch cheating idiots. Coach K is the biggest cheat of all. Duke lawyers are protecting the Duke program, and doing a damn good job too. No investigation and ineligibility against Zion? Yet Silvio gets screwed?

This is a farce and a joke.

NCAA News • Apr 11, 2019 03:27 AM

@HighEliteMajor You're too quick to accuse Self. I don't believe Self and KU was on trial during the Grand Jury. It was Adidas and the judge even reminded the Grand Jury that Adidas was on trial. The Grand Jury even declared KU as the victim.
All coaches are aware that some influence takes place and I doubt that Self is the only coach that talks to their shoe reps about players. Coach K had his shoe reps work overtime on Williamson. Then he cleared himself and Duke on national television as calling the Grand Jury a "blip." Meaning, he didn't take the investigations seriously at all. But then he corrected himself because he knew there was a slight chance his program was certainly a possible target.

How can you criticize Self for the Adidas allegations, and then defend Pearl who is a proven walking violation. This is why he's at Auburn. Tennessee kinda fired him and it has been proven to be a pretty good move for all parties. Pearl then sit out for some time as a coaching commentator for a few years for CBS Sports. They let his violations fade away and now he is a coaching genius for taking Auburn deep in the tourney.

Self is innocent until proven guilty, at least that's the way the American justice system works. However, the innocent are guilty until proven innocent.

No, I wouldn't touch Pearl with a ten foot pole, Auburn be damned.

Charlie Moore transferring • Apr 03, 2019 05:40 AM

Moore may be a great kid, but he was obviously all wrong for KU. He was the most absolute waste of paper of any transfer ever. I just can't get over how he was a total failure. He just did not translate. All he was good for was to give Dotson a really quick blow. But everytime he got on the court, I was always skeptical and counted down to when Dotson came back in the game.

Charlie Moore transferring • Apr 03, 2019 05:35 AM

Why can't we get one of these low key diamonds in the rough that explodes onto the scene around tourney time. Where are these kids? And how do we get one? Self and Co looking in the all too familiar AAU circuit. We always hear about some kid from no where that explodes onto the scene. But because he didn't have the top 5 blue bloods looking at him, he gets nothing. Like the kid that set the NCAA 3pt record in one game. Then he crapped a brick in the next game.

But this doesn't look good at all. I don't think we'll get Hurt...pun intended.

@Kcmatt7 I don’t want Bruce Pearl.

Pearl is a walking violation. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets violations at Auburn too.

I heard Emmert's interview with Seth Davis. This biased and unfair investigation the NCAA is wagering, against KU, is horrible. I don't care what KU has done, the NCAA is not going to lead the investigation against all "suspected" programs. Emmert said, "We've suspected these violations were taking place and now we will apply severe punishments." They are so biased and I'm for investigations and punishments against violaters. My concern is, how fair and consistent will the investigations be? and how "severe" will the punishments be against the violating teams?

What teams do they choose to investigate? What violations do they choose to punish? What punishments do they apply? Right now, KU has been given a horrible punishment against SDS by making him ineligible this year and next? WOW! AND...they are not done yet imposing punishments. IF Self leaves this program with violations, I will NOT be a Self fan.

Basically, KU is set to being the example for all the other cheaters. I have not heard a word about Arizona. Emmert said they didn't want to have this hovering over the tourney. How nice! I don't think the NCAA has done any investigations, nor will they. They do not intend to because they will end with KU and maye a few other lesser blue bloods. They have their scapegoat. KU will be the SMU of college bball. Brace yourself KU Nation. This is not looking good at all. We can forget SDS's appeal. They have a blue blood to take the fall. The message will be that no matter who you are, you will be punished.

Charles Barkley admitted during the pre-game show. Teams cheat, cheating, and will cheat. Question is, will the NCAA be consistent with investigations and punishments? JOKE
