Great game last night • Apr 27, 2019 05:51 PM

I was in the house for an epic Sox comeback from 9-2 against the tiggers. Walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th capped it off for a Sox winner.

The game featured an interesting play. Jose Abreu hit a 3 run homer except it wasn't because the runner on first was tagging as the ball barely cleared the wall. Jose slightly passed him and was called outs. Two runs were allowed to score instead and his stats suffered a bit.

@dylans Might have a fight on my hands?

@nuleafjhawk Here's how I attend Sox games. Buy the cheapie tickets at the gate. Enter the stadium and look at the tickets page for the Sox. Find box seats that are unpurchased and unlikely to be purchased, and move to those seats. No one ever comes and boots us out and you get great seats for cheap.

Great stuff! I enjoy looking at those too.

@JAYHAWKFAN214 Could you interpret that? It makes no sense what you wrote.

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 23, 2019 03:40 PM

@HighEliteMajor Great outfield in Philly those years with him and the Sarge

Doke • Apr 20, 2019 03:09 AM

He needs someone to throw him the ball 1 foot from the rim. If Dotson isn't here, that's our #1 priority. I'm heartened by the idea that he may return now. Seemingly the first good roster related news we've had since last spring.

Come on I believe in the NCAA. They'll have their decision made on the first Monday of April 2020.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 18, 2019 09:38 PM

@nuleafjhawk Inbox me the recipe please. All the rest of ya'll inbox me the recipe for a winning team next year.

Opening day • Apr 18, 2019 04:33 PM

@Kcmatt7 I agree with ya'll. I really don't mind purpose pitches like yesterday. I don't mind Timmy stepping to the mound. What I didn't like is Bleepin Joe West tossing our best player.

By the way the newest version of the Ryan beatdown was Ovechkin knocking cold a 19 year old in the playoffs the other night. Don't often see someone getting laid out like that in a hockey fight.

@dylans You would have to bring that fight up!

Opening day • Apr 18, 2019 11:50 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Royals acting like sore losers because a man flipped his bat towards the dugout so we must throw at batter. Then Joe West throws out batter. What a jerk Joe West is. He's the Higgins of MLB umpiring!

Opening day • Apr 18, 2019 03:49 AM

Royals throwing at Sox batters now. This means war.

SHould have had trump count the crowd, it would have been much larger.

How Bennett > Self • Apr 15, 2019 09:06 PM

@BucknellJayhawk3 I wish I'd seen your post earlier. Of course Bennett was spawned in Wisconsin and the system was established long ago and perfected first in Madison. Maddening to watch at times for sure and leads to the big upsets, like Stephen Curry knocking out the Badgers before playing the Jayhawks in 2008.

Great defense with efficient offense can cause a lot of wins to stack up. When the key cogs are added like it was a few years back in Wisconsin it led to one of the most enjoyable years of basketball I've ever had, at least until their infamous demise to you know who. The KU 85-86 team still remains my favorite college team even though the refs took away a win from them too. That team just won with ease all year just like UW did a few years back.

How Bennett > Self • Apr 15, 2019 08:50 PM

Bennett is the front runner to land both Hauser brothers from Marquette who just announced they're transferring. Interesting turn of events. Of course Badgers are hopeful but Gard can't recruit high level players from the state. Marcus Howard announced he is staying which might be a reason they're transferring because he's a ball hog.

KU's next coach. • Apr 15, 2019 08:42 PM

@nuleafjhawk And they problably don't watch the cheerleaders/dancers on the floor during timeouts!

KU's next coach. • Apr 15, 2019 05:12 PM

@TheTrooth I've heard his name mentioned before. Nothing serious mind you, but it's interesting to ponder the most successful womens coach coming into the mens side of things. I think the biggest part of his success has been he gets to pick and choose the best players and unlike the mens game, they stay for 4 years.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 13, 2019 06:32 PM

This discussion is why I've enjoyed becoming a Badger fan the last two decades. You actually get a chance to feel like you know the players because they're there. They've had a few early departures, but none after even 2 years as I recall. Devin Harris and Sam Dekker left after 3 years.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 13, 2019 02:03 PM

I still have eligibility.

KU BUCKETS' [ESPN] BRACKET CHALLENGE! • Apr 09, 2019 09:39 PM

Congratulations to the few people smart enough to beat my top 22 finish. Next year I'm owning this thing.

KU's next coach. • Apr 09, 2019 04:15 PM

@kjayhawks I've said it here before, but the '86 FF game because us and Duke started it for me. We were a powerful team, tied with '97 as best teams not to win. Duke fouled us 14 times while we fouled Duke 26 times. I have not gotten over it! FT disparity was huge, Brown was livid. About 3 guys fouled out which enabled Duke to overcome a late deficit. We got some revenge several years later of course. I've always wondered if Danny might have left that year or a year later if they'd won in 86 meaning they definitely don't win in 88, but I'm glad it worked out the way it did.

KU's next coach. • Apr 09, 2019 04:07 PM

It's partially an explanation for UVA's loss last year. One of their starters was injured and didn't play. They didn't play UMBC at full strength. Again, partial excuse because they should have had enough talent to beat that team, but it still meant a different UVA team playing.

@approxinfinity @dylans Yes indeed. I'll make the exception when we win the championship led by a OAD!!

I'd think a player has to give more than 1 year to KU to be considered worthy for jerseys in the rafters.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 03:40 AM

That should have been an and 1 on that layup.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 03:35 AM

These refs have become biased unfortunately ruining a great game.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 03:31 AM

Officiating hasn't been awful, but the controversial ones seem to be tilted in Virginia's favor including that last one that I don't even know what happened

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 03:27 AM

First OT since 2008. And how in the heck is that a rebounding foul on Culver?

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 03:26 AM

Tech is great defensively but they lost their heads on that tying three. When the guard drove the lane the D collapsed on him leaving that guy wide open out there. Big mistake.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 01:47 AM

Virginia is allowed to travel now.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 01:40 AM

thanks DanR. My sister dated a DanR in HS. Are you 6'6"?

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 01:31 AM

Anyone know the referees names? I've been trying to find them on the W W W

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 01:19 AM

Pulling for Tech, but it wouldn't suck to have Virginia win even though they're ACC.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 01:19 AM

No team breaks 50 is my best prediction.

Old Man Approxinfinity... • Apr 08, 2019 06:59 PM

@HighEliteMajor @BigBad @DanR My understanding is if you receive a pass and you drop it, or even attempt to control it by batting it to the ground and then catching it you still have your dribble. I was last licensed in the 2000's and I rose to the glorious level of JV, but that's the way I remember it.

Palming...grrr....Watch a youtube video of 'killer crossovers' or 'dude breaks his ankles'. Look how many times the palm comes under the dribblers hand. Most of those are carries. And the reason it's a violation is obvious, it causes the defender to stop moving because he thinks the player has given up his dribble.

Then listen to the announcers fall for it. They don't call it out, they say things like "onions" or "he's a diaper dandy". Yet the player is cheating. And the ref is falling for it.

Contrived Controversy • Apr 08, 2019 03:28 AM

@kjayhawks Remember our epic elite 8 game and there was a controversial block/charge call that went against Duke? I just about gagged when I read several national publications that made an issue out of Duke getting screwed.

Most overblown analysis of the year award went to SI for this:

https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2018/11/09/why-college-basketball-needs-dukes-dominance ↗

This is the kind of analysis that pushes people over the edge into irrational behavior, kind of like the Bama fan that poisoned the oaks at Auburn. Maybe if they retitled it Duke is good for college basketball I'd read it, but I want Kansas dominance. I want Duke to fade away. And fans of every other team want their team to be dominant. I don't hate dominant teams, I'm jealous of Nova's amazing two titles in 3 years, and UNC nearly doing the same, but I don't hate them because of the way they do it and the way the sports media treats those teams.

When ESPN has a Duke player ratings right next to their power ratings, they've lost all pretense of objectivity.

I'm all worked up now and I need to go to bed! Good night! RCJHKU!

Contrived Controversy • Apr 07, 2019 11:34 PM

Let's just hope TTech gives the powers at be no choice but to crown them the national champs tomorrow night. I doubt either team runs away with it, and it really could be the lowest scoring NC game in a long time.

2011 was a dud of game when Uconn bested "worsted?" Butler 53-41. I remember turning that snoozefest off. Surprise surprise, Wisconsin's one title was also the lowest scoring title game in history. 39-34. Only 1 team, UNLV has scored 100 and I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow night doesn't reach 100 combined for the two teams, but back to your original post, Tech better not leave it in the hands of the zebras because funny things keep happening.

Other Games Tonight • Apr 07, 2019 08:21 PM

Everyone in the whole gym missed the double dribble. Announcers, coaches, fans, players. Someone discovered watching replays and made an issue of it after the game. Interestingly in that Duke thriller with UCF two weeks ago Zion did the same thing in the last minute, got fouled shooting as a result. Looked for it on game highlights. It doesn't exist on the highlights. I watched it about four times on replay. I know it happened. Apparently I'm the only one who saw it.

Of course another angle on the Virginia no-call is it's an ACC team benefitting from a whistle/no whistle in the final four. That's happened before, don't you know it?

Other Games Tonight • Apr 07, 2019 03:06 AM

Bracket busted! Oh well, go Tech. They were awesome tonight. Win it for the Big12!

Other Games Tonight • Apr 07, 2019 02:10 AM

Did anyone realize KU beat both of these teams playing right now?

Other Games Tonight • Apr 07, 2019 01:52 AM

This is the kind of game MSU played against Wisconsin in the Final four in 2000 when Roy Williams criticized it saying it was bad for college basketball. Can't say I disagree with this one. Wow, this is brutal.

Sorry KJ, I saw that as a pretty clear foul once the replay was shown. He jumped right into the guy.

Other Games Tonight • Apr 07, 2019 01:15 AM

I'm torn here as a BIG fan and TTech admirer. BIG hasn't won a title since 2000 when MSU won it. Indiana, Illinois, Ohio St., Michigan and Michigan St have played in the finals a total of 7 times and never won since 2000.

As for my bracket I had Virginia in the final playing Michigan State. Looking pretty good!

Old Man Approxinfinity... • Apr 07, 2019 12:57 AM

I remember reffing about 15 years ago calling that and people going nuts.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 06, 2019 02:41 AM

@HighEliteMajor My memory is of Cheick being a very raw talent, not ready for prime time. It was a few years back, I'm not going to argue a point I don't remember much about, but my memory was not of Cheick being a key cog in a National Championship run.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 06, 2019 12:44 AM

I never gave Cheick Diallo a chance based on what we saw here, but he's putting together a decent off the bench season. Oubre, must be hurt now, but he was one of our best former Hawks in the league. Hard for me to tell sometimes who's gonna make it and who's not.

Privilage nonsense part 1 • Apr 05, 2019 04:41 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 We've seen that movie too. Great stuff. If you want to hear her speak, there's a podcast called "The January Series of Calvin College" and she spoke at that school in 2011. The podcast is still there. Fascinating story from her.

As per the other discussion it varies a little place by place but as a rule, public schools can't just kick out a kid because they're disabled. But I've been on the receiving end of many a kid kicked out of public charter schools (in almost all cases because of behavior) and we had no choice, we had to serve them educationally. They generally were not my best and brightest unfortunately.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2019 03:21 PM

@Fightsongwriter That dunk was great, but his dunk against Kentucky in AFH that same season was just as great! It was against a 7 footer forget the name right now, but whoa, he threw it down!

Speaking of Selden, the Bulls pitiful roster has given him the chance to be starting right now, been holding his own.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2019 12:43 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 See you have enough sense to say it's "pretty much handwriting on the wall". You didn't say Lawson is gone for sure. I agree, he probably is, Doke, I'm not sure. Grimes? @BShark wrote it like it's a fact. It's not a fact. I want Grimes back. I have hope that he'll improve, be more experienced. We enjoyed the junior year Wayne Selden, but were all pretty frustrated with the freshman version.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2019 01:41 AM

I don't know why guys are just point blank proclaiming so and so will leave like it's a fact? Grimes will leave, Doke will leave, Dedric will leave, I keep hearing people say this as fact. I understand speculation. But good grief, are you texting these guys? Are you Self's bff's so he tells you everything?

KJ Lawson to transfer • Apr 05, 2019 01:36 AM

Is he graduating? This is the only thing that makes sense.
