@Crimsonorblue22 WHOA. That is a big storm. amazed there hasn't been loss of life. Just saw this video on the news too. Glad everyone is safe.
@approxinfinity Jury is out on Lopez. Has had some really good starts with some bad in there and this year it seems he's regressed. I see the Sox go out to Washington next week. 2 game set there.
It's tough to see your team make a bad trade. Sox traded 19 year old Fernando Tatis Jr. who is a future superstar for James Shields when they thought they had the pieces to contend in 2016. His failure in part led us to break down the team and it's been really bleak, but a bright future I hope.
@Marco Good stuff, but you've got to discover the joy of writing in paragraphs!
Was one of my favorites as a kid when I was a Cub fan too. Great hitter and competitor. He never struck out 40 times in a season. There are 121 players currently who have 40 or more with 1/3 of the season gone.
East coast bias showed up in a big way in reporting his death. "Red Sox Legend" I read on three different news sources. He spent 2 full seasons on the Red Sox out of 22 seasons.
He had the memorable goof in 1986 but that only came after his bullpen had given away a 2 run lead in the bottom of that last inning (which I think was in extras) The Mets didn't win the world series that game. They then had to play a deciding game 7 which of course they choked away another later lead in as well.
BillyBuck moved away from Boston a little later in his life because he got sick of the annoying Boston fans reminding him of his error. People can be really annoying.
@dylans That was hilarious! I was watching the game. She was a Sox employee of the month so she got the privilege of throwing out the 1st pitch.
The improvement in Giolitos game is startling. He came to us from the Nationals @approxinfinity is weeping. He was literally the worst starting pitcher in baseball last year. Last week he pitched a rare 9 inning complete game shutout in Houston. He had been one of the top 3 prospects in all of baseball when he was in the minors.
Interestingly too is he is the grandson of the late actor who played George's future father in law on Seinfeld.
By the way that's the only time ESPN would show Sox highlights. #eastcoastbias.
This is why I don't follow recruiting that closely. When a kid signs, I get excited reading all the stuff about him, but before that, I leave it to you experts to figure out who's coming and going. Once he steps on the court at Late Night, he's a Jayhawk in my mind and I can form my opinions.
I have kept my Street And Smith's since about 1990. It's amazing to read their list of top 20 seniors in HS and see how many were actually successful even in college. It's not very many. And then to go on to long pro careers? Even less. But start mining the "best of the rest" section and out of the 100's of names you'll find the Paul Pierces and Kirk Heinrich's and Duane Wades and Frank Masons and Frank Kaminskies etc..... The truly best recruiters are not Cal and K and even HCBS, they're the Ryan's and Beard's and Bennett's of the world who have to find those best of the rests and train them to be great college players and team players.
I didn't click on your link until just now. Imagine how much that ball would be if they hadn't failed to win the league?!!
This is a 90% discount for bucketeers offer, right?
@DoubleDD Doke and DeSousa and Devon Dotson (hopefully). You're going to need to change your name to quadruple D.
The former head coach at UIC and current assistant in Madison suffered a horrible tragedy last night. A wrong way driver slammed into his car and killed his wife and young daughter. He was seriously injured in the accident as well. He is a Chicagoan who played ball at UW helping the Badgers to the dance for the first time since the 40's when the team made it in 1994 with Stu Jackson as head coach. He was then coached by Stan Van Gundy and was an assistant for Bo Ryan before going to UIC.
Details are a little sketchy, but sounds like an impaired driver to me. Encourage your friends and family to drive sensibly. One rash action can change many people's lives forever.
I just read this here and I'm sure ya'll been waiting all day to hear what I have to say about this. So here's what I have to say about this: ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK KU.
@KUSTEVE This is where we need @jaybate-1-0. It's right up his alley.
@KUSTEVE For real. In other words the day after he declares for the draft because they haven't decided.
Not trying to ruin anything. Just discussing, I guess, really exposing my doubts that he's good enough to be a POY. Would be a nice thing to see however because it would mean we're very tough inside.
It is nice, but do you think he has an all around type of game enough to be a NPOY?
I think Grimes is the next Selden.

Is he a grad transfer?
Now that would be a game changer! He took like 70 credits per semester I think, so yes he's a grad transfer.
Sorry @BShark to hijack your thread temporarily. I always prefer the known quantity especially if he's as good as Dotson.
@HighEliteMajor can't get a PHOF on that one?
Zion is withdrawing from the draft and transferring to Kansas.
@Kcmatt7 I didn't know I'd anger so many. Sorry. "Doke is gone" I read. "Grimes is gone". No disclaimer that it was anyones opinion, just stated as fact. The other day it and the ensuing comments acted as if something had been decided. Why not put the disclaimer in there? I don't follow as closely as others. I just like to know something that is stated as factual is factual. Until I read comments this morning that Grimes was still weighing his decision, I was under the impression he was officially gone. I didn't shed a tear the other day when I read that the other day FWIW.
By the way, Self is gone to coach the Trans-Siberian Womens Olympic development team.
@dylans That only makes me feel slightly better :)
This is what pisses me off about KUBuckets. The other day someone said Grimes is gone, like it was a fact. I thought it was true. Now I'm reading here about Grimes could be back. Knock it off people! Stop acting like know it alls and stating your wild speculations as fact. I'm sure it happens at other sites, but I don't read other sites. This is where I get my KU news. I don't go wandering through social media and a zillion other sites like some of ya'll which is fine. But stop making these statements. If Grimes does come back he's the second player to come back that I've read on these pages, Doke being the other.
Even if they pay players for whatever, the cheating will continue. Duke and Kentucky will continue to pull strings to get top players we and a few other elites will get the leftovers, and the rest of the country will have to raid the leftovers of the leftovers.
@approxinfinity I agree, Josh gave us some good moments as a OAD. I have higher regard for him than most of our OAD's. Quibble whether he's criminal or not, I think my point still holds true. Most of us when we make a mistake don't end up in a police report because of it.
I think @Texas-Hawk-10 has emphasized several times in his experience as a Houston area hoops officionado that the competition around Houston is not all that great. If Grimes is doing that as we saw in the video, against weak competition then the video doesn't mean much.
"Everyone makes mistakes." If I read that sorry line one more time I'm going to puke. What Josh jackson did is not a mistake. It's an incredibly stupid action that got him arrested and then made it worse by fleeing police. When i make mistakes, and trust me it's daily, it's locking the keys in the car, or forgetting my wallet, or accidentally calling my neighbor the wrong name, or calling a timeout when our team doesn't have one left, or getting a speeding ticket. A mistake isn't criminal. Criminal activity isn't a mistake, it's committing a crime, which most of us have enough sense to avoid because we know the cost to our own lives, families, careers, etc. Quit calling criminals mistake makers!
@Kcmatt7 To make it worse, the loss to Arizona was in the sweet 16. The best KU team ever....maybe....could'nt get out of the sweet freaking 16. Yes, I'm mad at KUSteve for doing that to us as well.
@drgnslayr Even at the college level the athleticism amazes me. Back in the 80's when I was on campus I spent a lot of time playing ball in Robinson Gym. After football season was over in November the football players spent a lot of time playing hoops. These guys, who by the way, were not elite football players by any measure, flew up and down that court. I had zero chance to guard any of them. They were amazing. I was impressed.
Dang, the Badgers always did good against him.
@Kcmatt7 You got me thinking I want to move now!
@BShark Thanks, often wondered. I feel sorry for those kids.
@drgnslayr That's not even HS basketball. Until a team has earned the right to play in a big gym in the state tournament using kids from their town it's not real. I don't know if they let those kids compete for state in the state their bball factory is in, but they shouldn't. If a kid is good enough to play college ball while remaining at his local school they'll get the same opportunity to play college as the kids getting shipped off to Brewster and Sunrise and IMG and Findlay and so many others. What a shame a kid has to give up what is a lot of times the best year of ones life, senior year in HS by going away to being pimped/poked/prodded by 100's of college coaches.
I don't know if he's hit a wall, but his production is dropping it seems.
@Kcmatt7 Traverse City is nice from what I hear. I've a cousin and uncle on the lake there. A bit cold in the winter however!
@Kcmatt7 If you set your sites a little lower, you can have a nice lakefront home on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin for a fraction of over on the sunset coast. Reasonable houses in cities like Sheboygan, Kenosha, etc are frequently across the street from the lake and public parks. Not quite the same as right on the water, but still very nice, and relatively affordable.
@kjayhawks Wow, that's a lot of rain for central Kansas. Hoping some of it trickles down to help refill the Ogallala.
I live right near Lake Michigan. Last night after running I walked home along the beach and about half of the beach is gone because the lake has gone up that high from winters snow melt and heavy spring rains. I suspect you're going to hear some shoreline erosion stories in the next couple of years on the GL's.
What I learned from living in the south is one road i often drove was a windy two laner with severe ditches and the road would flood. While I knew there wasn't feet of water on the road, you really couldn't tell where the pavement was and the threat of driving into one of the deep ditches full of water was enough to make me turn around.
Y'all be safe. TURN AROUND DON"T DROWN!
Really hard to know because last year at this time we were being touted as a preseason #1. There's a lot of question marks right now regarding next year. I like our experienced guys coming back, but as we've learned all too often, no matter how many stars and burger all star games our newbies have they still have to play games at the highest levels of college ball to really prove if we're back or not.
I'd take another Wiggins or Oubre, provided they stick around so we can get to know them.
@KUSTEVE Good to see yu back!
@nuleafjhawk Embiid and DeSousa from the West Coast......of Africa.
I'll put in a call to my uncle Bill for you.
@BShark Where'd that comment come from?
@jayballer73 I'm too young but I know the name.
@HighEliteMajor Yeah, the Expos were very good too. May have had a game on the Sox for best overall record. Frank Thomas won the MVP and was hitting .353, with 38 hr's and 101 rbis in 113 games. He was nearly an RBI per game pace. Like I said, I'm still pissed we didn't have a chance, and I'm sure Expos fans are as well.
@jayballer73 The previous strike brings up a sore spot which really is a dislike for ESPN. I heard a talking head on some baseball show talking about the 1994 strike saying people didn't mind the strike that year. Well the Sox had the best record in baseball, just a loaded talented team that was really looking like a world series team. They'd come close the season before. The strike of course took care of it and is still a huge sore spot among Sox fans. But ESPN said baseball fans didn't mind.
@jayballer73 Yes still Jayhawk buddies. But I'll argue all day long about how the Yankees are bad for baseball. I view them exactly as I do Duke right now. Hoarding free agents is the same as hoarding OAD's. Funny as it is to say, the Sox are a small market team. The Cubs dominate the Chicago scene, and get much of the publicity.
The year the Sox won the world series in 2005 for the 1st time in 88 years, SI puts the Patriots on the cover. A little circle in the corner proclaims the Sox amazing win. Evidence greater than all that the east coast teams receive the lions share of media coverage and that includes the Yankees.
It's bad for baseball. It's ruining the sport which is why I hate it so much and why I was thrilled when a rival team like the Royals won the thing in 2015. I love baseball more than any sport. But it's getting unwatchable for a lot of reasons. And some of it has to do with the Yankees.
The White Sox own a winning record over the Yankees the last season and a half (while losing 100 games) and have won as many world series this century as the yankers! I loved the yanks as a child living outside NYC in the days of Reggie and Guidry and Chambliss and Nettles, and Sparky Lyle, and Roy White and Thurman Munson. First ball game was at the House that Ruth Built in 1972.
But Steinbrenner and a move to Chicago turned me off big time. The Yankees represent everything wrong with baseball in my view. While the NFL and NHL have economic systems that doesn't allow teams in large population centers to areas to dominate baseball doesn't care and so the yanks and redsux will continue to hoard prized FA's and raid small market teams. It's an absolute miracle that the Royals were able to overcome all that and win a WS a few years ago.
Did Zion get a G league invite? THAT would be funny!
@approxinfinity My dislike or someone elses? I hope I didn't offend.
@nuleafjhawk Likes me most of the time is better than the average person who dislikes me most of the time.
