If this was Kentucky, everyone on this board would want the book thrown at them.

This isn't a court of law.

Money was exchanged.

Can't prove he didn't know.

It is over.

Self's pot belly.....

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 12, 2019 02:39 PM

My take on Grimes, and this may come as blasphemy to some, is that Hudy should have changed it up with him. I know at this age the normal thing is to increase strength. It is the rare case that enough base strength is there already, yet I think with Grimes if you look at him that was the case. He would have been better off on a program that lightened his weight. He would have been quicker and possibly had better stamina which may have helped his jumper.

@Woodrow - I'm certain Cronin will face sticker shock when he gets here. $1,000,000 homes in nice areas, heavy traffic, long commutes, $4.50+ gasoline, pressure from alums, competition from all NCAA and pro sports franchises. It ain't Cincinnati!

Should be really interesting.....

Agree. I live about 45 minutes north of Cincinnati and the cost of living is so good that many pro athletes never leave or come back after they end up at other franchises.

But the ball did go off of Morretti even if it was a foul.

Basketball has always been officiated this way, with possession awarded instead of a cheap foul call. Replay is horrible in basketball except for stepping on the line calls.

2019 Championship TTU v. UVA • Apr 09, 2019 12:20 PM

The replay of the Moretti ball out of bounds is a horrific use of replay in basketball. I knew this was eventually going to be a problem. Since the beginning of basketball officiating plays like that, which could be called a foul, isn't and instead, possession is awarded. They've done this to keep fouls lower and to not call a meaningless non-shooting foul and just call it a knocked out of bounds play. Now with last minute replay, a play like this is going to go to the team that fouled if the ball "slides" off the offensive player.

This is a can of worms that is opened, and I don't envy the refs having to deal with it.

Nike, Zion - This Is Not A Surprise. • Apr 09, 2019 12:16 PM

If my son was a top 10 High School player and a shoe company informed us he will see a few million more if he attends a college that uses their shoes it would be tough not to just do that. Money isn't everything but getting a big head start helps.

I really started thinking this was a thing with Wiggins. Plays at Kansas and then signs with Adidas in NBA. Self's talk of not knowing where they really stood in his recruitment. It just seemed he was recruited by shoe companies.

Old Man Approxinfinity... • Apr 08, 2019 12:17 PM

Don't get me started.....

  • The amount of players palming the ball is nearly 90%

  • The number of 3-second calls is so low they might as well get rid of the lane. (Zion would routinely stay in there 5 seconds)

  • The fumble of a pass that hits the ground IS, IN FACT, A DRIBBLE. When they dribble again its a double dribble.

@BeddieKU23 I actually think that not having a set system helps with recruiting. You sell that "we adapt our style to the players". It takes the thought out of recruits heads that they don't see themselves in a certain style.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2019 12:40 PM

@Bosthawk

I don't share your disdain for the players but I do share your disgust for what college basketball has become. I almost wish the roster was nothing but 3/4 stars that we can actually watch develop. It's becoming more like a pro game with massive free agency.

Michigan State shot 6 free throws the whole game!!! You always have to beat the refs and Duke.

I'll say it again...recruits and yells At refs.

Go look at the lottery picks K has had the last 10 years and the final fours. Wastes more talent than anyone in history.

Maybe the teams we run in to have peaked at the right time. Nova both times and Auburn come to mind.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Mar 26, 2019 05:39 PM

I honestly dont give a rats ass about these guys. The sad fact is a lot of them "go to college" and can barely speak passable English. Then they leave early out of pressure of supporting their entire family. I'm sick of the low expectations put on the young kids today. Forget bettering yourself as a human being, just go chase money with no other skills but low level pro basketball ones.

If someone offered you half a million dollars to play basketball in Australia or Europe are you going to turn that down? In regards to Doke it has been said he will have a robust market overseas and make at least that.

NONE of these guys are making that. It took YEARS for Langford to make that and he was a league MVP.

I know SEVERAL european pros from where I live and they never made that.
A guy who went to my High School ended up the all time leading scorer for a D-1 program. He played in Europe for 8 years. He is a real estate agent now. They dont make set for life money.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Mar 26, 2019 05:24 PM

@Woodrow I'm well aware. Besides the NBA, this level of basketball is the highest where there are actual crowds and its still fun. Put a lie detector test on everyone who left early and I'd bet 95% wish they hadn't.

Official Player Declarations Thread • Mar 26, 2019 04:50 PM

This is becoming a joke nowadays. Only Dotson and Agbaji have NBA POTENTIAL.. Dedric is a REALLY low level athlete and has ZERO shot at the NBA. His skill wont carry him beyond that shortcoming.

I don't understand why we didn't run this 5 for much longer in the first half. Seriously. If the subs are such a liability that Dedric has to be the focal point of the offense always, then I don't want subs. We've played 6 guys for majority minutes before.

It is definitely odd that Bill didn’t cut the rotation down this season.

Guys didn’t separate as much as normal

Having nova flashbacks except I expected more offense from us in those loses. This years team has been offensively challenged all year.

The relationship between Larry Brown and Bill Self has always given me positive vibes about Coach Self staying here a long time. Who else to advise Bill that the pro game and/or any other level of coaching isnt as good as being the man at Kansas? Larry has been everywhere and ALWAYS comes back to Kansas.

Self continues to play Garrett big minutes. Garrett is such a liability on an offensively challenged team. I said that a long time ago. Yesterday was a day where that fact was well apparent. Garrett didn’t lose us the game of course. He had 15 rebounds.

Rewarding effort with minutes is vital for the development of young guys. It shows young guys what it takes to see the floor. If the young guys dont respond with improved effort than it's on them. It's a tool Self has always used but this team also doesnt have the depth of teams past. I've seen a rise in Grimes effort since Garrett came back from injury. The biggest issue stopping us from peaking is Agbaji hitting a postponed freshman wall. The fact he didnt play games until January just pushed back his freshman wall.

And now there's this • Mar 13, 2019 03:17 PM

The pay the players crowd always says the scholarship the players get doesn't have value. This shows how much value acceptance to a high end college has. Duke players get access to an extremely desired resume builder that 95% of them would not have access to without basketball.

NBA proposes changing age limit to 18 • Feb 22, 2019 04:22 PM

Frank Mason played 4 years and won national player of the year. Someone PROVE to me he brought ANY monetary value to Kansas. If he never played at Kansas the attendance at games does not change and any TV money received does not change. College sports have fans of the front of the jersey not the back. Zion has received free promotion from ESPN and other college basketball outlets that gives him enormous bargaining power with potential endorsers. To act as if all these guys get is a free education is ludicrous.

Kicking Players Off The Team Game Thread • Feb 19, 2019 07:03 PM

Q will never be fast like he appeared in high school. What is making it worse is that he cant make a jump shot. Anyone who has played knows that when your known as a shooter your first step becomes that much better because defenders are closing out fast on you. Nobody in their right mind is closing out fast on Q.

Do we not count Perry Ellis as a "big man"? If so I'd say he was the most skilled big for Self. he could do it all he just wasn't crazy aggressive.

If his handles take a jump this off season then LOOK OUT!

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG • Feb 08, 2019 03:44 PM

@BShark If he gets that jumper going he should follow in the Devonte and Frank's footsteps as a kick butt point guard. He's a better passer than both of them. He's just missing that shot.

VICK GONE for Good this time??? • Feb 08, 2019 02:42 PM

Same "Family issues" as Naadir Tharpe.

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG • Feb 08, 2019 02:40 PM

Ideally Garrett would fill this role and Dotson would play off the ball some. Problem is that neither are solid enough shooters. For a Bill Self roster, this one is severely flawed.

Rocktagon the Chalktagon • Feb 06, 2019 04:00 PM

Self hasnt changed with regarding Grimes, he just doesnt have many options. Vick(brain dead), Grimes(Everything), Garrett(cant shoot at ALL), Moore(cant play d or finish at the rim), and Agbaji(young dumb mistakes) all have issues.

Rocktagon the Chalktagon • Feb 06, 2019 05:26 AM

Quentin Grimes: 2 baskets, 1 rebound, 0 assists, 0 steals, 5 turnovers, 4 fouls.

Rocktagon the Chalktagon • Feb 06, 2019 05:24 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 The biggest issue with this team is that there are not any upperclassmen spreading the culture. Self put Devonte on the phone for the Tech game pregame hype. Vick is our lone senior and he has had effort issues since day one. Not a great example for the young guys to follow.

Rocktagon the Chalktagon • Feb 06, 2019 04:35 AM

Dedric tonight showed why he has ZERO NBA ability. He will see guys Wade's size with more speed every possession in the NBA. He isnt capable of getting a shot off against that. I bet he is back next year.
