Everyone talking about Doke as a rim protector. Thing is Dave and Silvio are not slackers in that department either. Our guards better be GREAT this year defending the 3 knowing they have rim protection behind them!

@Crimsonorblue22 I'm saying they always compare white kids to white kids.

Gethro Muscadin commits to KU • Oct 18, 2019 03:15 PM

I HATE player comparisons. 99.99999% of the time they compare white players to other white players. 80% of the time they compare a commit to a previous player at the same college. Dumb

If Doke goes down with an injury we have capable guys in the frontcourt. If Dotson goes down this team could be a mess. Dotson is our MVP.

@pmann I live in Indiana. It smells like steel and oil. The whole state smells. There's nothing good in it. There's just trolls there. Thanks for visiting.

I live in Dayton Ohio and have a lot of IU fan friends. The one thing I will agree with them on is that if they recruited the state they would be national contenders a lot. Kansas cant say that.

Shoe companies are behind all of this. I'd bet if you dig deep enough you'll find lobbying dollars coming from them. The legislation will allow shoe companies to start using these kids IN HIGH SCHOOL for commercials. They will sign contracts for these commercials that will include signing with that shoe. This will force the kid to only look at certain colleges. Coaches won't waste their time on kids signed to other shoes, so that could help some colleges. Eventually, the rot of money will turn off the college basketball fan. The shoe companies with the NBA will then start basketball academies for high school level kids, who bypass college altogether. This will groom them for the NBA and minor leagues. The NBA will have fewer problems and more time scouting these guys and thus have fewer busts and will improve their product. The college game will eventually go back to what it was. More local kids and local support from alumni.

Call me crazy but this is where it's all headed.

Blaming school districts and cops. Perhaps it’s culture that doesn’t care about education or obeying the law? For every “crap” school I’ll show you plenty of kids who learn and move on. For every rich school I’ll show you kids who did nothing and are failures. It’s iq and culture in the home. Stop trying to put all of society into a monetary or racial algorithm. Society isn’t an equation to be solved.

Trouble? • Oct 06, 2019 12:43 AM

Sorry bud but names are a DIRECT REFLECTION on IQ! If I moved to a foreign country and planned to stay there I'd name my child a name that would help guarantee he/she would be seen as a part of the culture. If you want to buck the culture then deal with the consequences of that and STFU! A smart person does what they can to help their child succeed. Naming your child a stupid name is exactly that, STUPID!

Trouble? • Oct 06, 2019 12:30 AM

Cultural rot and violence is and always will be one groups fault. WEAK MEN! People bring up Chicago violence and single black mothers. The truth is that REAL MEN would step up and clean up their community and father their children. Instead WEAK MEN don't and then blame systematic racism or some other bull shit excuse from being a real man. College basketball is going to shit because the coaches are becoming weak men. Strong men move on from a recruit who obviously want money. Strong men don't recruit kids who cant fight their own battles and become a strong man themselves. Strong men don't need CRAP entertainment to entice recruits. Strong men understand delayed gratification and don't need to BE PAID right now!

An old phrase is exactly right:

Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men.

We are in the last sentence of that. WAY too many weak men around.

Trouble? • Oct 05, 2019 04:41 PM

It's CULTURE not race. A few hundred years from now history books will look back at this time and use it as an example that multiculturalism doesn't work. If you think you are different you are either ignorant or naive. If you think its taught then look at any school cafeteria and see how kids congregate with similar cultures. In school culture is jocks, nerds, artsy types, etc. In real life it's religion, political belief, family background and culture. Cultures will ALWAYS clash.

The ones that are marketable should go pro. "College" sports are done. Let them all go pro so in twenty years we can listen to the same media cry about all the ex-players with no money and no education.

NCAA: No Academic Violations at UNC
Ruling comes despite university’s finding that many athletes were for years enrolled in and passed courses they did not attend and that were not taught by anyone.

I don't buy into the "everyone else is doing it" excuse either but doesn't it seem that the NCAA has always had double standards? Some schools seem immune to NCAA violations.

For the MILLIONTH time. The NCAA can not do ANYTHING about classes that a college accredits and offers to all students. UNC cheapened it's university for sports, but not illegal.

Trouble? • Sep 25, 2019 12:20 PM

Everyone's doing it.
Selective prosecution.
Nobody wants to see how the sausage is made.

I've been watching more NBA the last few years. The key is to watch the games and ignore ALL off the court stuff.

Self basically said "Everyone does it" in text.

Self responded: “That’s how ur (sic) works. At unc and Duke”

That defense never works.

What always made me cringe is that the timeline of the allegations involves a final four. If you look at the history the NCAA always seems to ignore Champions(Wooden's UCLA, Duke(Landon Thomas), etc.) but love to use the removal of final four banners(Fab5, Memphis St) as examples of being tough. Louisville in 2013 was so bad the NCAA couldn't ignore that one. If I was betting I'd bet we lose the FF, some scholarships, and some games.

"Requiring a four-year degree accomplishes only one thing—systematically excluding those who come from a world where college is unrealistic," Paul wrote. "Does anyone really believe a four-year degree is what separates an ethical person from a con artist?"

With this logic do people like this believe that no job should have any requirements?

We Can Guard The Three Point Line - Period • Aug 12, 2019 04:40 PM

If 4 out then pressure, don't help, and feed towards Doke who will rim protect so hopefully we give up a long 2.
If 5 out then Big Dave and possibly Mitch plays the 5. - This, however, affects the offensive end.

Ron Artest, Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, Bruce Bowen, Rasheed Wallace....I can name plenty of others. Allen is in this mold but we hate him even worse because a) he isn't as talented as those guys, b) we all hate Duke, and c) I agree with Dackich that guards who do this stuff are really detested.

Every time I see these past Jayhawks flame out in the NBA it reiterates my feeling the Bill Self maximizes guys talent better than any coach in college aside from maybe Izzo. It reminds me of Bobby Knight. Outside of Isaiah Thomas he never had much long term NBA talent either.

Ochai • Jun 21, 2019 03:26 PM

The best NBA teams have a rim protector who is a great rim runner on offense. This guy allows the other 4 to really press the 3 point shooters and fear the drive less because of the rim protector. We have Doke this year so the other 4 should theoretically be able to do this. You also have to have players that really understand the scouting report and know which guys they can help off of.

Ochai • Jun 19, 2019 12:41 PM

With Self saying Dave is the "best big man shooter" does that mean he starts over Silvio at the 4 and we get the traditional high low with serious size? This team gives Self lineups to use his old high low system and also the 4 out stuff he has used the past few years. Should be fun to watch.

NIT

Lol at this. We could run out Free State High and Self would get them to 5th in the league.

G: Garrett

G: Ochai

G: Wilson

F: Silvio

F: Doke

That's a possible Sweet 16 team.

Everyone talks offense but that lineup is a top 3 nationally defensive team. The 3 guards can cover with no fear because of the 2 guys behind them. If a team is 4 out I think Silvio is quick enough to handle it.

Latest on Dotson • May 29, 2019 01:58 PM

Great coaches like Self break you down and build you up. Some players break early and build early(Dotson), some break early and take half a season(Oubre), and some break and need more than 1 season to really get it. I'd put Grimes into that last category. Of course, his mental makeup inst going to allow himself to be coached long enough to maximize his overhyped ability.

Going to college made Zion more money. He got a ton of exposure that wouldn't have happened overseas and his advertising value has skyrocketed. The American consumer believes in the competitive level of college basketball. Footage from overseas always is received as "those players are not as good". Only real basketball nerds like us understand that those pro leagues are actually more competition.

SILVIO IS FREE • May 25, 2019 12:49 AM

I'm absolutely shocked! Good for SIlvio.

Nonathlete college students are gouged just to get a degree to be able to have a normal life so I will never have concern over athletes who get it free. I'm definitely not concerned about the 1% of the athletes that can wait 1-2 years to be MILLIONAIRES. This is all a waste of energy and time.

Going back to Cali? Roy did well there. I'm cool with that too as long as we don't also go back to Roy's every other year recruiting style.

Some misc things guys : RJ/Devon/ Silvio • May 01, 2019 04:45 PM

I wish we developed players better leads to I wish we had a star to put us over the top. It's cyclical and it's EXTREMELY rare to put those two things together. When done it equals final fours and championships.

What the hell does a college kid need 10k a month for?

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 26, 2019 12:27 PM

@BeddieKU23 I'd compare Dotson to Damian Lillard and would say he will always be more of a scoring lead guard in that respect. Lillard raised his freshman scoring ppg of 11 to 20 his sophomore year. I think Dotson could raise his similarly from 12 to 20 if he comes back.

@HighEliteMajor Until there are text messages coming from K, Roy, or Cal like Selfs, we are still prime target #1.

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 24, 2019 01:52 PM

4 guards and Doke. Let him smoother with screens and run to the rim. Backside cuts, flares, and lobs with the other guards. David would fit this role as well. I'm not sure how I'd feel about them both on the floor. Clog city.

It is going to happen regardless. And you're going to end up with unbalanced classes, especially with the way the transfer market has changed. So, you have a team with Frank, DG, Svi, Vick and LL. A damn good team. You would rather have some no name player than JJ come in and help that team. Where is that team without JJ? A 4 or 5 seed and another early tournament flame out.

Frank DESERVED JJ and at least a shot at winning. We didn't land anything else before JJ either. And we tried. JJ didn't hurt a thing. Without him, I'm afraid that team struggles to even make the tournament. He was that good.

IMO JJ was the perfect OAD. Blended perfectly with the guys we had, played hard, never acted like a ME guy.

Grimes was a HS PG. Grimes played PG in the FIBA tournament last year. He's a big, athletic PG. His size and athleticism will make him money playing basketball as a PG.

Grimes had EVERY opportunity to break down the man in front of him. He lacked the speed and ball handling to do it. On the small times he did it his BBALL IQ was too low to avoid constant charges.

If we have Dotson, Ochai, Silvio, and Doke, that’s at least a Big 12 title team. Add Hampton and it’s a Final Four team. I think we’ll get Enaruna too. Still need another guard or two.

Not enough consistent outside shooting there. Teams will pack in like crazy. They were starting to do that before Doke got hurt too.

@FarmerJayhawk I was talking about prior to college and the SATs. Derrick Rose cheated on his SAT. The Hollywood people paid others to take the exam.

So many here live in a fantasy world. Everyone is cheating, this is college basketball now. Money, grades, EVERYTHING is fake. Go back and look at how many actual stars(Larry Johnson and Glenn Robinson just to name 2) couldn't get the grades to play their freshman year when prop 48 started. Now? Nobody is ineligible. They are all taking joke classes and getting paid somehow. It is a farse.
