@approxinfinity Watching the games last night what struck me the most is how much better all these teams are than we were. Their level of athleticism and hustle is just far, far superior to this year's flawed team. I think had we somehow made the S16, we would have experienced an epic humiliation. We don't have anywhere near the athletes. Sad but true.
@approxinfinity 35-4. Started 4 NBA players. Best team in CBB by far, until that damn AZ team. Jerrod Haase was hurt and couldn't shoot which killed us. He had been rock solid all year. Still hard to take 20+ years later.
@approxinfinity In retrospect, I think that loss hurt more than any other, other than Jacques and the boys to AZ in '97.

@nuleafjhawk I think you hit the nail on the head. Roys teams would lose unexpectedly in the tourney, but they never were humiliated. They fought hard and came up short. We have been humiliated 3 years in a row. Terrible trend.

2016 - Punked by Nova
2017 - Humiliated by Oregon
2018 - Humiliated by Nova (albeit at F4)
2019 - Humiliated by Auburn (had not been to S16 in a long time)
Obviously other coaches are finding lower tier guys who are good players that eat nails. We get 2nd or 3rd tier elite players with warts. There are a TON of lower tier guys who would die to play at Kansas. Why cant we get a few of these guys? Maybe Bill needs to shake it up and get some new recruiters / coaches. I would give our current assistants a grade of B to B-
The guys with flaws are not improving. And our top players are not as good as the Duke or NC players since 08, except for Joel and he was an accident. Getting spanked in the tournament repeatedly has to mean that there is a crucial flaw somewhere. Wofford lost to KY but they did not get embarrassed.
I don't mind losing if we play hard, but two years in a row getting humiliated and embarrassed with the full national audience watching. Tough to swallow. I was smarter this year. Turned it off early and watched a comedy which worked. Had a good laugh.

@Hawk8086 Because he cant shoot or elevate, I would rather see KJ out there, even with his defensive liability. Rebounding would be about the same. Less effort but taller.

Lawson was constantly out of position on D and was too lazy to slide and help out when our guards got beat off the dribble. This more than anything affected the game. His lack of athleticism just kills us. This will be our undoing in the tourney. Even more than another poor shooting night.
@wissox Its only the Big 12 tourney...come on. Oh she is from ksu, probably thought since they lost they dont get to go to the NCAAs.
We should not forget Coach made it public Vick had to sign a contract when he came back regarding behavior and expectations. Cleary the contract was broken and he had the guts to uphold the healthy boundary that was crossed. And IMHO he had the class to not embarrass Vick.
A lot of guys in the Big 12 have been kicked off teams this year. Part of what coaches have to do. Seems to me Coach handled it about as well as he could in light of all the other garbage going on.

@BShark After the game Grimes admitted he blew the defensive assignment, not Ochai. Grimes called switch and then stayed with his man. Och did the right thing actually. And when you look at the tape, it was really quite remarkable how much he closed back out. By no means did he alter the shot, but he was closer to putting a hand in there than you would think from the live game angle we got. Grimes was a man and took full responsibility. This may be proof that God really is a Jayhawk that that shot did not drop and we are still alive in the race :-).
