I wanted to say we might be seeing some Dick tonite, but for some reason, it just didn't sound right. So, should get our first look at Gradey, Udeh, Zuby and McCullars tonite as well as the regulars.

@Texas-Hawk-10 itβs all one contract. Fox and ESPN bought all the rights and will split both football and basketball. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/SB-Blogs/Breaking-News/2022/10/Big-12-renews-media-deal-ESPN-Fox.aspx β
It has verbiage that allows the parties to add additional revenue as the B12 adds teams. Otherwise, we wouldn't be going after the 4 corner schools.
Would love to have the Zags in the B12. Make them earn their #1 seed for a change.
I have a couple thoughts on this:
-
I appreciate the visit from the cave troll on this thread today. If your take is "Bill is a liar" then all I can say is we live rent free inside your head. National champs, baby!

The pure delight of watching heads explode on Rump Rafters is simply priceless. Oh, it just crushed them.

Anyone know what happened to Ben McLemore? He doesn't appear to be on any rosters and was wondering if he was hurt or what?
He's young and very rich. Mayjay reported he's made over 30 million dollars in the NBA so far.
@stoptheflop ESPN +.
Just wait until they announce a Tier 3 agreement with Amazon:
Russ Wilson makes the Pro Bowl 9 times, and goes to Denver, and falls on his cleats. Geno Smith was a 3rd string back up two years ago- now he's a late blooming star. Is Pete Carroll the QB whisperer?
@jayballer67 said in Big news for the big 12 - -has to be good:
Well the Big 12 just became more stabilized - -Not Big 10 or SEC Stable but makes us for sure the third best stability for future reference.
The big 12 and ESPN & FOX came to agreement on new media rights/deal.
The new deal calls for a 2.28 Billion over 6 year contract , which in turn they said figures out to be 380 Million a year and averages to right about 32 Million pe School. While now the Big 12 is finishing out it's final years of 220 Million Average
Now while this isn't like we had with Oklahoma & Texas the report said was when you add in the NCAA playin off & NCAA revenue - -it will avgerage out to right at 50 Million per School despite losing Oklahoma & Texas. - -where it was 42 Million per School. - -Not bad at all.
What this does isSecures the future of the Big 12 , don't end up blowin up. It future probably adds also that if like more chances then not that if the Big 10 does in fact in up taking Oregon & Washington to the BIG - that pretty much destroys the PAC 12 like has been talked about , and in turn you gonna see other PAC Schools bailing - -most common for the Big 12 adding Arizona - -Arizona State - - Colorado - - & Utah - -most likely these 4 but for sure you would see Arizona & Arizona state making the Big 12 the 3rd mega Conference. - -I for one feel good about this. - -Although with the BIG adding those two Schools makes it even a less chance KU goes BIG. - I really didn't think we were going there anyway just they don't think we bring enough to the Conference. - -So we make the best of the situation and survive - -were gonna be all right
It's too bad we couldn't swoop in, and take Oregon, Washington, and the two Arizonas.
Question: where is McLemore playing this year? Or is he?
@jayballer67 said in The 4-Out Rotation:
Just some random thoughts. Was listening to Swain in a podcast with Bossi , 1st my thoughts , as we know or have heard right now not really anyone standing out at the five. So call me crazy and probably won't happen But I'm a Zuby Ejiofor guy. - He is dam man Was also listening to what Bossi said about him. - Bossi says He has tremendous activity around the rim , Crashes the boards and attacks the rim. Destined to do some really good things during his time at KU - -more fluid then Ernest - -has a mid range jumper Zuby can play some 4. - -Bossi said reminds him of T-Rob Body - -Size - - Activity around the rim -Gonna be hard to keep him off the floor.
I think for awhile were gonna see the 5 by Committee -don't get me wrong like Ernest too - - Ernest just a little more raw offensively, Bossi also said about Ernest he at times takes things to heart a little to much - -confidence might get down. - -To me he better toughen up if that's the case cause Coach Self can get kinda hard at times and as we know you get in his dog house hard to get out.
Like I said In Reality I don't think Zuby wins out -probably Zach - -just kinda my pick- right now anyways - - Think in time were gonna be blessed with these guys if they all stick around.. Another thing Bossi was asked - -how he seen them playing together , and he said it was kind of hard to say because he said a lot of these guys won't be playing with some of these guys when they came in because of various things the portal and such. Said you could almost count on transfers just the way it is - - we shall see
Count me on the Zuby train. At some point, he's going to figure out what to do. Then that elite athleticism is going to take over, and he's going to be really good.
My personal opinion is they've only been stealing signs in baseball for 100 years. Here the Yankee fans acted like they given some grave injustice in 2017 conveniently forgetting about all their roided up players they used to win titles and championships. Everyone. steals. signs. in. baseball. To me, it parallels our present situation with the NCAA- everyone calls us "cheats" for doing what everyone else has been doing for a long, long time.
Juando will be just fine. Team basketball requires someone to get the ball to the right players at the right spot at the right time, and he does that very well. He also defends very well most of the time. We need his experience on the floor. I know people are going to crow about his offense, but I would rather he play within himself, keep taking his 4 or 5 shots a game and help somebody else get a good shot.
I have it Juando, McCullars, Wilson and Dick. I have Zach playing a platoon role at C. The interesting part is how does he work in MJ,BP,Zuby, Udeh, Joe, and of course KJ. 11 deep- who is going to sit? Looks like you have 30 minutes for Juando, McCullars, and Wilson. No idea how he is going to keep everyone happy, or will he?
@drgnslayr said in The 5 spot:
We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.
I compare how he moves his feet to how Dave moved his feet and I see a huge difference.
I agree he needs more strength and think that is what works against him stealing all the 5 minutes. Probably not a great leaper. If he moves his feet well that can make up for a lot. Positioning and being a quick leaper can do that.
To be honest... we all need to see him play more to assess him and he might be better this year if he spent his summer wisely building his strength.
I met him a few months ago... he's got some size. His height is real and isn't as thin as I previously thought.
Plus,
He's the only KU player who has ever tweeted me back...ever. That counts for something right there.
The one thing the dump downs to the post did was draw the defense inside, which led to open perimeter shots. And Bill misses that. I think I will, too. But I keep thinking what MCCullars will do down low w/o a center to harrass him, and MJ ... MJ is the premiere on the block guy we have. And Jalen will run past any ( hyperventilation moment- I should say almost any ) 4 in the country to the rim. Hell, set Clemence up at half court, and let our other players slice and dice.
@Kcmatt7 said in Dare yourselves to be optimistic! KU Football:
Honestly, unless somehow we win out, this was the perfect season. Not good enough to get him a bigger job. But good enough that we can ink him to a good deal with an insane buyout. Tie him to KU for a decade. Get the new stadium built. Get the program as P5 as it can be (clearly still some depth issues currently, also a pretty young team). Then ideally hand the job of to AK or someone else on this staff and build in a succession plan for when he does finally hang it up.
What he said.
I notice they aren't mentioning Leipold for other jobs anymore. That's a good thing. I hope we can keep him for 5+ years. It wouldn't surprise if we are ranked next preseason.
1st in conference. Elite 8. We all predicted last year's ceiling was Sweet 16, remember?
This is a little off topic, but such a rare event, it has to shared. So, who is sticking up for KU players in the media? Frannie? Say what?
Is CB quick enough to stay with Lillard?
@BeddieKU23 said in The 5 spot:

@Kcmatt7 said in The 5 spot:
I do think we will go small some with Wilson at the 5. But it isnβt a 30 mpg solution
I'm thinking we could go that way until Bill can get the 5 spot sorted out. I just wish each of our 5s had an extra year of experience.
Why not Jalen at the 5?
The office will be Astros crazy today. I think it's time to order a t-shirt, and join them. Go Astros!
I think CB is going to be just fine:
@bskeet said in Coaching succession:
Simple question: Has there ever been a more impressive coaching succession than Larry Brown --> Roy Williams --> Bill Self? In. Any. Sport. Ever.
I've had the full monty. I remember the excitement and disbelief we could get a coach like Larry Brown. And he turned our program around immediately.
Then the switch to Roy. I first thought he wouldn't be very good, but then that offense got going, and I fell in love.
Then Bill. I hated Bill at first. The offense was abysmal, it seemed. Never ran. Just plodded along. Then he started winning, started winning big. The 2007 team was one of my favorite Jayhawk teams ever, and then 2008 was even better. I now think that Bill Self is the best coach in the history of KU, period. We don't even have rebuilding years. The domination of the best conference in college basketball may never be duplicated. 2 national championships along the way has been supreme.

Lots of positive press going to Chris Johnson for his play over the last weekend. Certainly looking like he will rise the rankings. He looked a lot like a top 20 prospect then his current rank
Him and Elmarko are just beastly. We're national championship good for the next several years. Just a powerhouse of talent.

@drgnslayr said in Future Big 12 Schedules:
I hear what you are saying and agree we often play a schedule that is too tough.
I'm complaining here when I don't have a fix for scheduling because of the growth of our conference. Maybe we need a few more teams then split it out in divisions.
I just know that nothing beats home-and-home for the fans! It totally stokes competition between all teams because after teams face a humiliating loss to a team, they want revenge.
I know when we lose to someone in our conference and we don't get a second shot at them fans complain. I'm one of those fans!
I think we should kill the conference tourney and play more home-and-homes! We should look back over the past decade or so and see how many teams won our conference tourney (and won an automatic NCAA tournament spot) but wouldn't have made the tourney without being conference tourney champs.
I respect that viewpoint. But if I'm not mistaken, we'll have 5, maybe 6 home and home conference games wrapped in that new schedule. I would assume we would see Baylor, Tech, Silo, UT ( until they cut and run), and maybe Houston or someone else home and home. That would seem like a very good schedule, imo.
Harden looked a hell of a lot better. Joel did Joel things. Even though Philly lost, I was impressed with their newly found defensive intensity. I was hoping Embiid would stomp on Marcus Smart, even though I knew that wasn't the purest of thoughts.

@Jethro I have no clue about any 2nd cousins, which requires common great-grandparents. 5th would require common great-great-great-great-grandparents. Might be easier to keep track in an island family!
I thought it was kind of cool. 5th cousin is way out there.
Elmarko is from Jamaica, and is a 5th cousin to Usain Bolt.
@drgnslayr said in Future Big 12 Schedules:
The death of conference home-and-home... killing revenge games. Reducing the source to build rivalries. It sucks.
We might as well have just one D1 conference in the entire country and have a schedule lottery every year to pick our games.
This is what happens when you turn D1 over to TV marketing wonks.
Teams and fans reduced to ZERO input. The almighty dollar rules all.
We've played the toughest schedule in the country for many years. The main reason is we play in the best conference in the country as well as having a tough non-con schedule every year. Over the past 10 years, we have played the most ranked teams in the country. I have seen years in the past where our schedule has worn our team down to the point we were limping into the big dance. I welcome playing a more reasonable schedule. We're still going to have home and home with certain members of the conference every year, and we'll still see teams in the conference tourney as well. I welcome this change. I think it adds several wins to our record, and puts us on a more even playing field with the Dooks and Tuckys of the world, who have playing a staggered conference schedule for years.
5th, 8th...it's just a number. I think we have some real growing pains coming, but Bill will figure out a way to make us competitive enough to have a good seed in the tournament. I have to admit I've dialed back expectations- too many new parts, big learning curve, questionable shooting, etc. Doesn't mean we'll be bad, but I think we'll be closer to '21 than '22.

I liked what Coach said about the bigs- he has 5 that could all get minutes, but he prefers someone to step up and get the lion's share of minutes at the 5.

Ochai getting no preseason minutes for Utah, but 36-year-old Rudy Gay getting 25 minutes off the bench. Why?
Pretty sad when the last pick of the LOTTERY i the most recent draft not getting any minutes - - something smells , either he has had just an incredibly bad workouts/practices with the team OR Utah being Utah- piss poor clum/organization - -I choose the later
Or, they know that Victor Wenbayama is available in the next draft, and they want to lose as many games as possible to get a chance at the first pick. Vegas has them at 23.5 wins for the year. Maybe Och gets a lot more run next year, when they actually try to win.
