Lathan to Kansas. Just read that he entered the portal AFTER playing in WVU's bowl game. That is a GREAT sign.
You are also right about us being plagued by the same issues time and time again. Last year we were plagued by McCullar getting hurt, Arterio getting kicked off the team, and Timberlake being terrible. This year McCullar is still hurt and not playing, Arterio is still kicked off the team, and Timberlake is still terrible.
@kuballin10 You are right. If you disregard the Big 12s tournament success then they have underperformed, proving that it is a weak conference.
We had a good team in 2023. We won a brutal Big 12, were in the top 5 all year, and were a one seed. Using an early tourney exit to try to say otherwise is an illogical argument. Anyone can get bounced early.
We sucked last year.
We will have to see how we play this year. We have had highs and lows already and it is too early to say. My guess is that we are better than last year but far from being one of Bill's best squads.
I think the reasonable thing to do is to take the wins with a grain of salt and go into panic mode over the losses.
Yes but we also don't want Flory to catch NBA scout's eyes this season
@wissox I think Hunter didn't get fouled but they called it as a makeup since they didn't call the one DaJuan drew
@wissox He got fouled so I wouldn't worry too much.
@BShark Who starts doesn't impact the game that much other than maybe motivating certain players. What really matters is minutes.
Good to see Bill pressing buttons
AJ and Rylan are not playing good basketball and they are causing our struggles. They are not the only factors but are the biggest factors by far. I find that fact to be obvious. Is there anyone who disagrees?
Bill benched KJ for a long stretch in the second half then used him situationally at the end of the game. He got a steal and drew a foul (both of which were mitigated by officiating errors). I am also disgruntled with KJs overall play today, but I am not really sure what more one would want from Bill in that regard. Benching KJ and then correctly using him situationally for a couple minutes is about all you can ask for.
Utah and Okie St will bounce back after bad seasons last year. Tech is doing very well in the portal. K-State is always solid and is a lock to beat us.
We have a chance in every other game though. I think bowl eligibility is a good goal for us.
If Isaiah Marshall is good then that won't be a problem
They will play their best game of the season against us in Manhattan.
What do we make of the TE transfer from Arizona? I see he has decent but not mind-blowing receiving stats. Does anyone know if he is a good blocker?
Is Jack Tanner any good? I read he only started 4 games at Tulsa last year
I see we added DeAndre Harper from SEMo St. The way I see it he can fit one of three categories.
-
He kicked so much ass at the D2 level that the staff thinks he can be a good player for us.
-
He was not that good but he has measurables, athleticism, and three years of eligibility left, making him a good project player.
-
He is not that good and doesn't have that much potential either, but hell, we need a body.
Anyone have any insight as to which one he is?
What do we make of Rawls, the OSU safety commit?
After both Creighton and the slavers I think panic is reasonable. We now know this team does not win on the road
They have had the worst injury luck of any team in the NFL by far this season
Hmmm. Not great but I'm not too concerned yet. If this happens again I will hit the panic button but for now I will attribute it to a simple case of us missing bunnies and them raining threes.
I try not to blame the refs but they are making it really hard
When things go poorly fans look for someone to blame. Fans who do not understand basketball default to blaming the lowest-scorer. This is why DaJuan got a lot of hate last season. Since things have gone well so-far this year, fans have been able to just appreciate how good DaJuan is. But if things take a turn south fans who lack solid basketball analysis skills will blame DaJuan again.
In an ideal world, Flory comes back next season and Tiller is our backup 5, which would give him time to toughen up and develop before playing a more major role in the future.
@kuballin10 I agree. I would like to see us play 4 out with Storr and Griffen at the 3 and 4. KJ I would like so see get about 20 mpg off the bench. How many minutes do you think he deserves?
Do you believe KJ should get any minutes of playing time?
If that game happened it might have been in Hoch Auditorium and not Allen Fieldhouse
It is well-documented? Interesting. Can you post some documentation here?
Is anyone else here confused? During DaJuan's tenure at KU we have landed a 5* PG in Elmarko Jackson, am extremely coveted portal PG in Remy Martin, and two additional coveted portal guards in Zeke Mayo and David Coit. Where exactly is the perception that we have been unable to recruit guards due to Self's blind loyalty to DaJuan coming from?
@kuballin10 Well the comeback started prettj much immediately in the second half. So he played for most of the comeback and made some big plays during it.
@Kcmatt7 That team didn't exist according to the NCAA
@kuballin10 DaJuan had a bad offensive game and a great defensive game against UNC. And he did not ride the bench in that game as you said earlier he did.
@kuballin10 We don't have to go off of anyone's memories. We have the box score. DaJuan played 27 minutes, got three steals, and played a big role in holding UNC's backcourt to 1-13 from three.
I almost cannot believe that I am reading posts saying that Self bungled Frank Mason's development. I would argue that Self's development of Frank is among the most impressive examples of player development I have ever seen.
The takeaways here should be simple:
-Mayo, Coit, and Storr are bad
-The freshmen look like good pieces for the future
That's it.
How will I remember to shop at the local Russell Stover Candies without the AFH scoreboard reminding me?
Listen for free on the radio
Our defense deserves the same amount of heat as Grimes if not more so. Refusing to get a defensive stop on 3rd down and giving up 21 4th quarter points is a hell of a losing formula
Another 4th Q lead in a game we will lose. 🙃
@kjayhawks We always score a touchdown to start the second half. The problem is our offense stops after that
@wissox inevitable
@Gorilla72 Yes. The only "game" we didn't was vs Lindenwood.
ASU is about to capitalize on our "give up a TD in the last minute of the first half" special
It really is amazing how many of our fans know basketball better than Bill Self
@jayballer67 The "DaJuan Harris sucks" crowd might be calling for Leipolds head as we speak 🤣
Everyone just be grateful for the two years of fun we had. It is over now. Time to restart the rebuild from scratch.
Giving up 15 points in 3 minutes is unacceptable and the defense deserves to be harshly criticized. I never meant to suggest otherwise. However, that does not exempt JD from criticism.
Close game at halftime. KSU runs away with it in the second half and wins 35-17
@Gorilla72 Yes. But Daniels missed too many open throws today. If not for that we probably blow WVU out
