@Crimsonorblue22 that's not only a bif 12 record...his 12 TOS is a division 1 record.
Just a little curious how some folks were doing professionally. Looks like Cliff is fulfilling some potential...less a 5 game suspension for drugs.

Andrew White is obviously mucked up here. He has 0 stats.
I thought I saw this in real time...blew it off. I re-watched the last 12 minutes before going to bed and saw it again. I guess my favorite player Vick said something that may have irked Ol' Mr. Huggins.
Bill Self on De Sousa getting the news: βI know itβs a big relief to Silvio, who has been very patient throughout this process."
@mayjay kuhoops twitter
@dylans oh yeah!!!! Kool aid man breaking thru the wall kind of oh yeah!!!
I'm going with the at 15:43 left in the first half tomorrow ...ol billy and silvio take off the warm ups and check in and the crowd goes nuts. Self looks at weber and just smiles. Ku hoes on 45 - 0 run and wins by 60.
Ineligible for competition until 2018-19 season. Oh wait...sorry about that. you probably don't care that's the decision for Austin Wiley with Auburn.
Apparently it's decision day for the NCAA. The USC kid De'anthony Melton just got his execution last night. Similar to Preston...held out since November and just got word.
Lot's of people jumping off the bandwagon today. It's a loss...live and learn. The team will prevail. The streak will end sometime. Maybe this year...maybe not. One year, the NCAA will proceed without a mention of the Jayhawks and they will host an NIT game. It will happen. Maybe this year...maybe not. Will this KU team shoot 12 3's in the second half of a close game and miss all 12 again. Highly doubtful.
There is a silver lining in the loss. The team learned to drive the ball and proved they can score. The previous 13 games had the same 3 options on offense every time:
-
weave, drive, dish back out for a 3...shoot, make/miss get back on D
-
drive left, pass to top of key, fake right, pass left...drop down low to Doke...dunk, or hook shot...get back on D.
-
Top of key...come in from corner for lob, or drive and throw up for lob.
Last night proved they can drive. Last night proved they will drive. This drive to the basket will continue moving forward. When the 3 is falling...of course make it rain. When it's not, the dribble drive will allow for defensive breakdowns for offensive boards. There is hope. I believe it. I believe we will get Preston back for the home game against K-State. I believe we will go 13-5 in the Big 12. I believe we will beat Texas A&M. I believe we will make it to the second weekend of the tournament as a 4 see and will battle Duke on March 22 in Atlanta. This may be the worst team Bill Self has had in his KU era...but it's still pretty good.
I have full faith that soon...Malik will be the 2014-2015, number 8 ranked kid. He will get his mojo and I hate to bring up anything that's attributed to Marsha...but play angry. We'll see the attached kid. I want him to get to the point when he asks if his opponent is "scared"
Well...for merely the short term...I really hope KU plays more than 1 game in the sprint center next year. Hopefully they "schedule" 6 games there. It wouldn't break my heart if KU lost a game or 2 more than "expected" and got moved to the east region. I live in Annapolis so, I would love it if they came to supposed Maryland hotbed recruiting area of Dematha, Gonzaga, and all the kids from Upper Marlboro who are all D-1 ballers somehow for the sweet 16 and elite 8.
As for farther down the road...I'm sure it's merely an economics thing???? There are 2,600+ additional seats I guess...at $50/ticket...that's over $133k. Of course the sprint center takes their rental fee, which I don't have exact values...but I'd think it would be in the $50k realm. So we're literally talking pennies on the dollar for the venue after share distribution. (of course pennies on the dollar to a multi-million dollar organization...not some nobody like me)
The only thing I could imagine is for both teams to believe it's financially advantageous and considered a "neutral court" game. Thus a loss won't weigh in too heavily. Or maybe the Sprint Center has an agreement with KU on the side to play there merely to show the NCAA and the conference they should be awarded the tourney games....maybe?? I don't know. I'm purely speculating and making stuff up by this time to try to justify the move.
@chriz Sexton scored 40 against minnesota...with only 2 other Tide players on the court against 5. The dude is the real deal holyfield.
I will say...It's still way early in the season and conference season will dramatically effect rankings.
There is some validity in what he's saying. There are some outliers. Out of curiousity, I went back thru to 2011 to see the worst losses. Year - winner (worst loss team and rank)...as a baseline KU just lost to 114 Washington...still WAY TOO early for final place but....
2017 - UNC - (Ga Tech #77)
2016 - Villanova - (Seton Hall #29)
2015 - Duke - (Miami #41)
2014 - Connecticut - (Houston #132)
2013 - Louisville - (notre Dame #36)
2012 - UK - (vanderbilt #16)
2011 - Connecticut (St. Johns #41)
@BShark
I debated right before I hit submit; but, once a Jayhawk...always a Jayhawk in my book.
I go caught in a Jayhawk internet rabbit hole this morning and saw where Andrew White III scored 37 in his debut. I started getting curious how some past Jayhawks were doing so I looked it up. Just merely posting here if any of you were a bit curious too. These are all the stats of this morning:

Now we just need zion to hold his preference for zion/quentin package deal. Mmm...only 2 games in and I'm ready for next year to start with this class, Lawson boys, and whoever else stays.
@DoubleDD I really don't think there has been in a game in the last 30 years where a KU team has hoped to win. I'm pretty sure that every time the team takes the court...they expect it.
Saying that, a victory is a victory in my book. UK's height scares me a little bit. UK beats a great...not a good, but great Vermont team playing absolutely terrible shooting wise. They left about 20 points within 5 feet of the basket. They will rebound and have the depth to cause headaches for any driving...similar to 2012. I fully expect Doke to get in early foul trouble and it will be a tale of 2 decisively different teams...big and slow paced UK vs. small and fast KU. I expect to see KU put up 32 3's tonight and 14 need to drop.
I fully expect a KU win. But I do every game. This is going to be a closely contested contest throughout.
Vick is the player of the game with 22 points and 6 boards.
Devonte with 15 and 9 assists
Malik with 10
Garrett with 4
Svi with 14 on 4-7 from 3 and a layup
Preston with 10 on a ho-hum 5-6 shooting
Doke with 8 and 5 boards
Mitch with 2 on some random 3 minute spurt filler bucket
KU wins 85 - 79
Ku 150 the other team 95. It happened before...it shall happen again so sayeth bmensch1.
@JayHawkFanToo It's more of a..."I can't believe these guys still have eligibility" factor. My go to was always Lawrence Moten with Syracuse. That dude seemed to have had a 15 year career in the NCAA's.
Curious what everyone is hoping to see tonight in particular. For what it's worth, I'm just hoping for lock-down, ball denial defense and allow 0 offensive rebounds.
The 1997 team was by far the best team KU had in "recent" memory. Just ran into a hot Bibby and Simon which is pretty common in the NCAA tourney. 97 was loaded; unfortunately, Billy Thomas is still chucking up 3's that are bangin off the back of the rim. Pollard and Haase had something incredibly low like 2 shots combined and 0 points between them if memory serves me right. I'm too bitter about the game to look up the real stats. My KU - PTSD gets triggered quite quickly if I look at that.
Is this team special? They are the effin Kansas Jayhawks!!! Of course they're special. For the 35th year in a row (I started following college ball when I was 6) I start every season...every game for that matter, with the same Coach Dale quote: "My team is on the floor". I firmly believed KU would win the national championship the previous 34 seasons and this year I'm just as excited as any of the others. I'm a complete homer on this though. If KU trotted out Matt Kleinmann, Nick Bahe, Tyler Self, Chase Buford, and Brennan Bechard against 2012 Kentucky...I would still like my chances.
Now saying that...I'm not a Doke fan like everybody else seems to be. He's a complete downgrade from Landon. Landon couldn't make a bunny...but what he did do was set a perfect blockout for about 80% of all of Mason's drives. He cleared the lane, he knew where to be on the court, and knew where to pass the ball in the sets. He was a 4 year player of course and took him until the 4th year to get it together. Doke gasses out early, can't shoot free throws, an inconsistent lay-up / hook shot, and travels 85% of the time if he dribbles on the block. He traveled quite a bit against pitt state, but the refs were waiting for the foul on him to occur and watched for that more. He's not terrible of course and played good defense and denied several entry passes forcing Pitt state to pass the ball around more. He looks like he knows the offense pretty good, thus, with the guards we got, he will get several opportunities to excel.
He is the only "weak" link with this team. I would take anybody on KU's roster over any other roster in the country. Get excited for this team folks...they'll be fun. Exhausting and frustrating at times? Yes. But they'll be good and will battle.
For what it's worth however, I would love to see Vick play all 40 minutes every game. I love that dude. My favorite player since B-Rush.
I see KU with 4 losses this year. Kentucky, 2 times to west virginia, and one to texas. I love me some DG, Newman, and Vick; but, the I don't see how they consistently break the press against WVU and not have 25 turnovers. We've truly been spoiled with point guard ball handling skills over the last several years and the aforementioned don't cut it for me in a pressing situation. KU will have 2 weaknesses this year as compared to recent memory:
- the ball handling as mentioned.
- When the shots aren't falling and a play maker taking control and driving the basket for a contact layup and/or a foul.
3 full games is a tall feat. I do like TCU coming in second and WVU coming in 3rd. Each will have 4-5 losses each in conference I'd reckon.
@Texas-Hawk-10 ...I'm not talking about a 4 seed of the bracket...but the number 4 overall seed. Some team will have an inflated record because of the BS conference they play in and will get the 1 seed in the so Duke will have an easy national semifinal game. The top teams this year will be Duke, UK, KU, Mich St. and Zona. The rest of the 63 teams are just filler material for the one shining moment montage. Two of those teams will get screwed out of a number 1 seed for a team like Ta-State. Marsha will get his crew to go 30-1 or whatever and finally get the 1 seed. That's what happens when the toughest games are against a weaker than normal Baylor team, a shitty oklahoma state team, and their one loss this year...Oklahoma.
@Texas-Hawk-10 You also forgot about the following:
3/15 - beating some 16 seeded jokers by 40 @ Wichita
3/17- 15 point win by beating some underachieving 8 seed but has the talent to be 3 seed and the tourney clan tries to screw KU in the hopes of setting up a Kentucky vs. Duke Final Four @ Wichita
3/23- 14 point win over power 5 conference regular season champion but lost in their conference tournament. Foe is too scary to put to the likes of Duke and UK. @ Wichita
3/25 - 8 point win over number 4 seed in the tournament. Figuring the best way to eliminate the competition. This will either be Arizona or Michigan St. @ Wichita
3/31 - 10 point win over Kentucky. Tournament roundup is assuming that if KU would get thru, Calipari would be best to get a second chance at the team that beat them. This is similar to the UK/UCLA methodology last year. @ San Antonio
4/2 - 9 point win over Duke. Grayson Allen and this loaded team shoots poorly from the floor against the KU defense and KU merely presses on for another Rock Chalk 2xx8 championship @ San Antonio
The game against ASU is on the 10th. The last day for classes at KU is friday December 8 (or stop day per KU registrar website) but the last day of finals is december 11.
I presume Cunliffe is eligible to play that game. Everywhere I looked up says merely Cunliffe will be eligible following the fall 2017 semester. Anybody have any insight into this? I don't think he'll play much...but makes for a good story.
If you're interested here are the early returns for the summer league for our hopefuls.
And yes, once a Jayhawk...always a Jayhawk (unless you transfer to Gonzaga or Ta-town...then you're dead to me)

@Kcmatt7 Based on the video, I can only agree with you 100%. Doke either fouled or traveled every time he touched the ball; however, there is 5 months till the season begins so I'll remain optimistic. I love that he's beefed up and lost what looks like another 20 pounds. I just wish he would throw it down with 2 hands more often. These are merely petty criticisms though. The squad as whole looks pretty solid.
Hurley and Self announce a trade. Cunliffe for Bragg straight up. Transactions like that would add a real interesting rift in college basketball.
Would love for him to go to Arizona State. For just one day, I would like to enjoy his defensive ineptitude. A lot of mother f'bombs were dropped in my house over the last 2 years.
I apologize if this was covered before...but there are 3 recruiting threads with 200 some plus comments each; however, Wooten de-committed from ASU on the 12th. Curious if anybody had any insights as to whether KU was still interested. I read a couple of places he's looking at UCLA as a viable option...but I trust the posters on here more than the jokers from some internet blog.
Monk dropped 50 on ball last year in AAU ball. Defense seems to be pretty strong with that kid.
With JJ foul trouble...just need to get thru the first half tied and JJ sitting on the bench. Fresh JJ and pissed off jj...still will get a double double.
Whos worried? Not me. Self is making mods right now...8-0 run forthcoming.
82 - 70 ku victory tonight. BIG 10 champ down. Tonight pac 12. Saturday ACC. Monday...WAC? Whate very gonzaga is. They are insignificant to me still.
How can you be 7'2" and 290 pounds and nor scare a single person as a rim protector? Amazing.
@jayballer54 WVU plays tonight? I forgot...but then again, I've spent the better part of my day trying to figure out how a bunch of smart kids from Purdue keep getting the hashtag wrong. #BTFU??? let's try this again...it's #BIFM.
I would love to see WVU beat the Zags. I just don't like Gonzaga for a multitude of reasons. One specifically is Micah Downs. Transfer in...I'm cool with you. Transfer out (unless you're name is Andrew White III) my double standard kicks in and I hate the player and I hate their new university.
Unfortunately I will have to miss WVU/Zags as my pregame will consist of watching the 2012 Purdue/KU game so I'm at peace with myself prior to tonight's contest as I completely faux pas'd last night and subjected myself to the 94 KU Purdue game on the big 10 network.
I haven't felt this comfortable about a win since December (discounting uc davis of course) short of the big dog, caunzo, and Hummell getting in a time machine and suiting up Thurs night...I don't see any possibility KU loses.
With JJ and mason driving at will...they are getting layups or getting swanigan in foul trouble. Either way, it's a win win scenario.
Is Phil Forte finally done now...or will the NCAA grant him a 14th year of eligibility?
@Big-Clyde52 I knew we played a team just like the davis team I saw tonight. I was thinking siena...but you hit it perfect....long Beach state.
Good recall. That's been bothering me for the last hour.
@jayballer54 if this were after a loss and self wanted to make a statement to his players to ball out...then this is a kentucky full press for a Ashley Judd kind of game where KU wins by 50 and drops a 110. But this is survive and advance. Get up by 20, 25....sit frank or devonte at any time. Tell frank not to drive. Let svi and vick practice their threes on kick outs. Post Jackson because those dudes will hack the shit out of him. Let bragg and Landen get their mojo goink on the block. Play D. With davis inept 3 shooting, I would hope for the 3,2 zone.
If the lead gets down to 18...have frank and Josh do their thing...just a cruise game.
Complete side note: Over/under of dunks in the 1st half I would say should probably set at 7.5.
When watching it...I kept thinking Tyler self would start for davis. Looks like a cruising 25 point win. I just want devonte to only play 25 minutes and just keep suckling down the gatorade. With the extended layoff, I have a bad feeling the case of his leg cramps are going to come back.
@kjayhawks agreed. Hope baylor wins big. But regarding the remainder of the tourney...I guess my rooting interest is texas? 21 loss team with some talent would be intriguing.
yep...at the news conference
Yeah...I'm watching it now...some student yelled out "F her right in her P*!" Pretty classy
Guard for baylor...Was down to Nova and KU (in 2011 I think)...committed to UCLA...de-committed from UCLA and Drew got him to Baylor. He was a prized commodity at the time.
@dylans Pretty sure when "the oklahoman" is running a live stream countdown for his announcement...safe to say it's etched in stone to the Sooners
http://newsok.com/multimedia/videos?live=MaMSh3lV1NQ#gsc.tab=0 β
chalk him up to my Al Freeman category...where 2 times a year (sometimes 3) I'll watch and briefly pause for a moment and think "you dumb bastard...look at you wearing that trash jersey and getting another loss when you could have actually had hope and aspirations of winning a national title and not have to endure the torture of living in waco (or norman, or stillwater)"
Should Devonte come back for his senior? Not if he can get paid. It's really my philosophy for all athletes. Basketball, football, golf, snowboarding...whatever.
After reading this story...he's been through a lot. Just like Jamari...I don't have the ability to empathize as I've never been and, God willing, will never be in such a situation he has been in.

I never want him to leave. He's by far my favorite player on this team and in the mix with Rush, Manning, and Langford for favorite of all time. Whether it's a $40k salary in the d-league or $100k in Europe....get paid young man. Get paid for what you do best. Eff the degree. Teach basketball later in life. He knows the game. He's learned from the best.
The same goes for Svi. Go to Europe...CSKA Moscow will pay top dollar for the 19 year old Ukranian.
