What is "knowing"? • Apr 20, 2018 03:07 AM

@mayjay There is always the dreaded lack of institutional control label/punishment.

Embiid • Apr 18, 2018 01:50 PM

Seems this writer thinks Embiid is better than wonder boy ROY candidate (can’t remember his name). I enjoy watching Joel more than any player in recent memory and am glad the numbers bear out his dominance. If he could cut down on tournovers he’d be nearly unstoppable.

@Crimsonorblue22 3-4-5 hitters due up in the ninth. Time to get it done!

2019 Recruiting • Apr 17, 2018 03:51 PM

3 top 100 HS players in the state of KS in the same year?!? Cool. Hope JRE bleeds crimson and blue. Really hope Harvey gets his stuff taken care of. Hall gonna ball at KU? The 6’11ā€ guy from Wichita is gonna be a load for someone to handle a few years from now too.

Goodness, you know if the boys have his type of attitude, show'em the door today. Why wait? I'd say I have a better chance of winning the lotto than them going back, they'd have to sit another year. A lot of people aid these guys were trouble when we took them, run your mouth and get left high and dry we don't need guys like this.

To be fair the kids have been towing the line since the initial crap in practice.

Also what attitude? I actually don't think there is anything wrong with what he said. Kids are often at a program mostly for the coaching staff. Who on the roster right now is here because it's KU? Just Mitch right?

Ochai would be another. He seemed to have stars in his eyes while talking about Kansas.

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 02:22 PM

@BShark Taking a large number or unranked kids and booting those who don’t work out seems to be Bruce’s best option to get talent. KU kind of does it too. Bill will take a flyer on a random dude if he has an open scholarship and send him packing the next year (or sooner Milt) if it’s not going to work out. Thankfully Bill lands more of his top 100 targets than Bruce, so the carousel has less traffic.

I think Bruce is a good fit in Manhattan and will enjoy watching Bill’s team whoop on the mildcats for years to come.

ESPN šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø • Apr 16, 2018 02:15 PM

I generally don’t get too worked up by ESPN. I am well aware there are some whom despise the media giant, but I don’t find it too objectionable myself. However, this new ESPN+ stuff is really taking advantage of their readers. To charge you for insider articles and then heap another layer of pay for content in the ESPN+ would be unconscionable for a small business, but it’s everyday practice for ESPN.

Ok end of rant.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Apr 16, 2018 02:07 PM

@BShark That’s the way my crimson and blue tinted glasses read the tea leaves as well. Nothing from Romeo, but the staff isn’t bracing for a whiff either. Either they are happy with what’s already in the fold or they are confident on Romeo signing (or both).

What of Lightfoot and Cunliffe? • Apr 12, 2018 02:25 AM

@mayjay Yes on both accounts, but I believe he started as a walk-on.

Played Wilt too.

Ranking of college bball coaches • Apr 12, 2018 02:22 AM

@Ralster Dude, it's okay. If it wasn't clear I'll outright say it, my unwavering opinion is: if Brad Stevens had taken a job at a blue blood instead of the NBA he'd be the best coach in college basketball.

I offered it up in levity, mostly because I don't want to form supporting arguments as to why K is the best coach. It's too easy. Hell he has 7 more final fours and 2 more championships than Villanova or 3 less final fours than KU has all time and 2 more NCAA championships than KU as well. Good grief that's painful to type. It's much more fun to hypothesize that Brad Stevens would be better.

No offense to our beloved Bill, he's fantastic. Best coach Kansas has had since Phog. Not a coach in ncaa ball that I currently desire more than our own Coach Self. Phog was so good he won football games at a .622 clip too. (I honestly think Bill could do better than any of the football coaches since Mangino.)

@Lulufulu lol

Ranking of college bball coaches • Apr 11, 2018 11:32 PM

@BigBad Did you know that Forrest Allen was forced into retirement by the government? At the time 70 year olds weren't employable by the state. He was super pissed about not being Wilt's coach. I am too, KU would've had another championship or two.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 10:17 PM

Romeo would put a nice bow on this stacked class. Charlie Moore, Dedric Lawson, KJ Lawson, Silvio DeSousa, Devon Dotson, Quentin Grimes, David McCormack, Ochai Agbaji. 8 or 9 talented new faces.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 09:37 PM

@mayjay ...if the shoe fits. But he'd be talking to his momma. The local school couldn't seem to keep him safe from peanuts and I didn't want to become a mass murderer after they killed my child. As a bonus he is now getting a top notch education. Massive improvements in math and composition.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 08:03 PM

@BShark Wow, hard work and time put in equal success? That's a hard sell these days.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 07:35 PM

@jayballer73 Hardly. lol. That same teacher asked us what the nationalities of people from certain countries were. I.e. Russia -Russians, Spain- Spaniards. When she asked about Poland my buddy pipes up Polock. Apparently that'll get you detention. She was good at leading us to the noose.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 07:25 PM

@jayballer73 I had a middle school English teacher ridicule me for calling it the Ar-can-saw river instead of the Our-Kansas river. I told her she was stupid. (That didn't go over too well, but the truth hurts sometimes)

Edit- I don't really care that much about the pronunciation of the Arkansas river. That's why I thought she was ridiculous. Jumping on a 13 year old over what amounts to your personal preference to mispronounce a word.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 07:18 PM

@jayballer73 its because Texas thinks it's it's own country. Thus the lone star (of 50) that matters. Oh and there is one star on the Texas state flag.

Ranking of college bball coaches • Apr 11, 2018 04:14 PM

This discussion is only possible because Brad Stevens is in the NBA.

@BShark Thank God for the reinforcements! The returning group would be pretty rough. Ironically it'd still be in the running for a Big12 title though.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 03:36 PM

Is valley girl talk still a thing? That was/is painful.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 02:16 PM

@mayjay I really don’t have an issue determining if you is plural or single.

I certainly wouldn’t try to change a culture, just my own kids.

It’s like the old saying clothes make the man. Perception is important. It’s not everything as an enlightened person will look past initial impressions. However, many will not give you a second chance after that first impression. I don’t want my kids to have to cross any unnecessary hurdles, not being able to speak properly (doesn’t have to be every conversation i.e. kid to kid) or write correctly is a major hindrance.

I’m not one to think the southern accent makes one sound less intellegent, the dumb accent is trailerpark-ese.

Is North Carolina considered the south? I’ve never heard my cousins from there say y’all. My family in Arkansas sure does though.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 01:51 PM

Why don’t we have boosters give all the Duke and Kentucky guys $20K apiece and make them ineligible (if that’s how the findings go)? Recruiting espionage.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 01:27 PM

I can’t wait on the football findings, It would make the basketball stuff seem like small potatoes.

Ranking of college bball coaches • Apr 11, 2018 01:20 PM

@BigBad lol. His roster was as flawed as KU’s. I hate K, but he’s one heck of a coach. I had hoped you would come up with a great argument to add points to hate on Duke with.

(I dont’ want to look at the seeds as I’d have to acknowledge that KU only made one final four with 3 or 4 one seeds in that time frame also)

Ranking of college bball coaches • Apr 11, 2018 01:12 PM

@BigBad You can’t count out a coach that has 12 final fours and 5 championships, regardless of what happened last year.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 01:09 PM

If KU played an ineligible player (Silvio) should the wins be vacated?

If Kentucky played an ineligible Davis should their title be vacated? The games were played and outcomes determined by the players, but what if some of the players shouldn’t have been playing? Even a roll player, like Silvio?

This whole deal sucks. Dammit Adidas.

FBI • Apr 10, 2018 10:14 PM

Julian Wright's hamburger story never sat well with me. Preston signing out if the blue threw up major red flags also.

Here's what I think the plan was going Into the game. First 10 shots by KU all Dok - 8/10 for 16 points cause who's gonna stop him? And Nova hits their average as well and makes 4/10 threes for 12 points.

@Barney KU was an easy scout. Don't leave Svi open in the corner, pressure the guards 10ft past the three point line to disrupt the offense, and deny Devonte the ball as much as possible.

Modern Basketball vs Bill Self • Apr 10, 2018 02:46 PM

@drgnslayr Our guard defense has sucked since the rule change. I want to see guard D like Villanova’s or even TexasTech.

Langford • Apr 09, 2018 08:30 PM

Wright to the 76ers!?! Let’s start wild rumors to destabilize the ā€˜nova machine bwahahaha.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 09, 2018 02:36 PM

I was impressed with Underwood at OSU. Wish he was still in the Big12, but the guy OSU hired seems to have Bill’s blessing (2 gifted w’s imho) and isn’t too shabby so far.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 09, 2018 02:03 PM

EJ Montgomery to UK as expected.

Silvio’s mom travelled in from Angola. Maybe Bill was mad at Silvio and didn’t want him to play in front of his mom? Or maybe the moms didn’t have anything to do with it and Bill simply thought Dok gave Kansas the best shot to win.

@jaybate-1.0 First time that’s been done? Nope. Doesn’t remove the randomness of a one loss tourney.

ā€˜Nova had the best team this year. They deserved to win, but it didn’t guarantee they would. That crappy shooting night they had against Tech would’ve doomed them against an inferior KU team. And Bill Self would be wonderful etc.

KU Twitter/Memes • Apr 08, 2018 03:26 PM

@wissox It should be Dok’s room. And he should remain locked in until he proves himself to be a good boy.

@Kcmatt7 Yes, it was worth it. They can’t sustain a dynasty without blowing up the payroll. After decades of watching the Royals be a big league farm team it was fantastic to see. Unfortunately the brass didn’t realize the true strength was the bullpen and blew it up earlier than they had to.

They lost to NCState the year before. You never know in that crapshoot what’s going to happen. Better to enjoy the entire season, than to dwell on the tourney too much.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 03:15 PM

@BShark That was two years ago, ā€˜Nova won last year. This year it’s the Hawks to lose! Game on! ...damn it’s going to be a long off season.

Scorer: Dedrick and...

I like Dok. I also like that there will be depth beyond him next season to give Bill options when the matchup is unfavorable.

Just wondered.

Every year buddy. I wish all the best interns would come back, but few do. (And that's a better comparison to college ball than a full time employee imho since both are in college. ) I'm happy for the successful ones...and happy to see some of the others leave as well.

@Crimsonorblue22 I am always impressed with the local Hispanic population's ability to work for near minimum wage and still send a significant money order to family in Mexico every payday.

Releford said (back when he was playing) they use their stipend on the tats. Something like $500 per month, which isn’t too shabby if correct.
