Lunardi (thankfully never accurate) has #6 Gonzaga as a 5 seed in KU’s bracket and preseason #1 Arizona as KU’s 4 seed. Gonzaga as a 5 is grossly underseeded. Arizona is about right, but a tough draw with Ayton playing like he is. MSU and UNC as the 2/3 so get to the elite eight and it’s a more favorable matchup.

I don’t see where a degree helps an NBA player succeed in the league, but post HS educational requirements are not all that uncommon in many/most professions. Hopefully something can be worked out that doesn’t screw over the NCAA as I couldn’t possibly care less about the NBA other than it’s affect upon the NCAA.

In Case Anyone Was Wondering • Mar 06, 2018 04:26 AM

Honestly it’s the coach that is the face of the bball program. That’s part of the reason he’s paid so well, brand recognition generated by success. Roy = UNC, Coach K = Duke Boeheim = ā€˜Cuse. Etc. Players are more the flavor of the month, @kjayhawks didn’t even mention Mario!

Billy Preston - Stage 2 • Mar 06, 2018 04:12 AM

So will KU have to forfeit the MU pre-season game since BP played? Lol

In Case Anyone Was Wondering • Mar 05, 2018 10:27 PM

On that note, Kansas hadn't repeated as national champs in nearly a century. That's a streak I'd love to see broken.

In Case Anyone Was Wondering • Mar 05, 2018 10:25 PM

@wissox Not a lot of footage on BH Born or Charlie Black out there. Now if you're talking about the modern guys since the rules have been relaxed, I'd be surprised if you could stump many of the bucketeers.

@JayHawkFanToo but but but how will I print my bracket?!?

In Case Anyone Was Wondering • Mar 05, 2018 09:32 PM

Bill says Devonte qualifies for being Big12 poy. Seems like small potatoes for a school like KU. Love Devonte, but he hasn't done enough...yet. I hope by April we all have no doubt he's earned this.

I also remember one of Roy's commits deciding the sat was too hard and just going pro. A top 10 HS player; he was drafted, but washed out of the league quickly.

It'll make recruiting more tricky. You e got to id the top college guys, not just the top talent. So Ayton to AZ at the last minute is likely Ayton goes straight pro and the second coming commits to the Jayhawks then goes into the draft (instead of Bosnia) anyway.

@BeddieKU23 Taking O over D. Nice squad. The only easy choices for me were Graham and Evans.

Underwood should’ve stayed at OSU. Oh well.

Playing GM the best team I could assemble from the Big 12 today would be a starting five of:

Graham

Evans

Carter

Dok

Bamba

Coach Bill Self of course

@BShark no argument. Still will piss me off to see them as a 5 or 6 seed. At best deserve an 8 or 9 seed.

I don’t mind seeing overseeded teams in KU’s bracket, it’s the underseeded teams that kill me.

how many teams ? • Mar 04, 2018 02:54 PM

LOL North Carolina thought they would be a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, they are a 6 seed in the ACC tourney.

Svi appears emotionally shot. Hopefully he wakes up along with most of the rest of the team

@KUSTEVE Waiting on that run to start any minute now!!!

My hopes for KU post season • Mar 02, 2018 08:02 PM

I wouldn't want to go up against a team that could potentially have two guys hit 100 threes and another guy who has dunked 100 times. Major chinks in the armor or not it seems like a tough matchup for anyone.

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 04:44 PM

KU vs Virginia in the F4 yuck. 10-15 seconds of offense followed by 40 seconds of D (rebounding is an issue).

If KU can move the ball the way it was doing it against OU that Bilas called it a thing of beauty, it can get wide open shots. I am not sure UVA has seen anything like it...obviously OU had not.

Well to be perfectly honest the OU d will make your O look pretty darn good...

"We don't have anybody that can guard him" • Mar 02, 2018 03:33 PM

@Kcmatt7 You’re making me wonder what if before the season is even over. Add two Sr. guards who will each hit over 90 threes at a 40%+clip in place of the freshmen...

What’s up with Lagerald? • Mar 02, 2018 03:00 PM

Vick’s three point percentage in losses is terrible. The rest is fairly static.

@KUSTEVE If he’s innocent hell yes he files immediately in an attempt to shine the light on ESPN and not AZ. Maybe Stumpy is innocent in this and doesn’t want something else found out? Maybe he’s not completely innocent, but it didn’t go down as reported. And here’s the least likely one, maybe he’s completely innocent.

"We don't have anybody that can guard him" • Mar 02, 2018 02:51 PM

Too bad he’s not eligible for Devonte’s Sr. year.

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 02:50 PM

Doesn’t West Virginia beat Virginia every year? That would be a bad 4-5 seed for Virginia. I really don’t feel bad for the ACC teams having to play Virginia once or twice when all the Big 12 teams have to play WVU twice. (Same difference)

Fun with signatures • Mar 02, 2018 01:56 AM

@Blown I think I picked mine up at KUStore.com but they appear to be sold out. Rallyhouse Allenfield house usually has them, but doesn’t ship (might be worth calling to check on availability or if they know of a place that ships). If you do buy one on ebay make sure it has the date on the ball like the above do. Those are the official university issued team signed balls - others are potientally fake or missing players.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Mar 01, 2018 05:21 PM

Could Kyler Fuller be Peters replacement or will he be way too expensive/unavailable due to the franchise tag?

Fun with signatures • Mar 01, 2018 05:09 PM

Yes, I bought the 2017-18 KU signed ball before it was cool. :)

(Actually after the ASU loss, yikes)

Contrast Sam’s heavy sig #3 dead center under the Kansas taking quasi ownership for the team to Udoka’s light signature in the top left #35 soft hands perhaps?

!0_1519923702404_559F4B46-EDDE-4CF7-AEED-476391B5FEDB.jpeg ↗

another case for Dok’s soft hands, lightest signature I have - perhaps a bit introverted? Devonte’ top right #4 has a pretty, flowing signature. Looks like an 18th century general’s sig. :)

Svi has moved in on ownership of Kansas as well. He started signing several inches above the Kansas and has moved closer each year, now signing right on top.

Bill always signs the Jayhawk. Takes ownership, but isn’t bigger than the program. Roy Always signed above Kansas like it was Roy Williams’ Kansas Jayhawks.

In all fairness Roy has a pretty and thoughtfully clean signature much like Larry Brown.

Pro Jayhawk updates • Mar 01, 2018 03:33 PM

@mayjay It amazes me with AWIII’s flat footed D and general slowness that he’s done as well as he has. I really thought he would be a good player for KU during his Sr. Year, but not an NBA player. Go Andrew!

@BShark Now my fam is wondering why I’m laughing. (Home with sick kid today)

@mayjay No KU to overcome for Barnes...

NIT to experiment with new rules this season • Mar 01, 2018 03:15 PM

@mayjay You’re right who cares about the Not Invited Tournament? Stats shouldn’t count for such an obviously Not Important Tournamnet.

The Coach of the year? • Mar 01, 2018 03:10 PM

I believe it was ESPN that turned out a list of the top 100 NBA prospects a few days ago Graham was #39 behind Carter of wvu. Svi was 69 and Vick was 66. No other KU player was listed.

The Coach of the year? • Mar 01, 2018 02:56 PM

It’s rhetorical don’t come at me talking about free throws and rebounding... lol

The Coach of the year? • Mar 01, 2018 02:56 PM

@approxinfinity How do you lose with two sr. starters that average 41% combined three point shooting on high volume, and the nations #1 2pt shooter as well?

ESPN hitching their wagging to KU • Feb 28, 2018 09:26 PM

Beat KU early in the season and you'll likely land in the top 10. Then you have to stay there...

@elpoyo Play nice or not at all. Then again the chicken man playing nice is about like an ugly mu coed- inconceivable.

Hawk8086 said:

@dylans HEM was referencing regular season, I believe. But didn't MSU beat us twice the year we lost to them in the Sweet 16?

Yes he was. As long as KU takes care of OSU I believe Bill's payback record in the Big12 will be 20-0.

MSU may have beaten Kansas twice in one year. It's probably why I respect but don't like Sparty. (Respect is rapidly in decline)

Self = getting better.

Over the course of a few weeks or a month between meetings, the little things add up, when one walks the talk of getting better and the other just talks the talk.

Closed the gap on Kentucky that year too. Another 2 minutes of game time and who knows?

Villanova? • Feb 28, 2018 04:14 PM

@justanotherfan Most of the teams are about to be handed one more loss in their conference tournaments as well. There is just a little time left for a shake up.

HighEliteMajor said:

An interesting side note — KU has not been swept by any team it has played
two games against in Big 12 play under Self. OSU beat us at home and we now
venture on the road to Stillwater for an obvious letdown game.

Only Kentucky has beaten KU twice in one season that I can recall, but maybe I’m forgetting a Big12 tournamnent loss to a team KU lost to earlier.

@BeddieKU23 No one bets on music or art. That’s why no one cares if they get paid. It’s all about betting. Same as the injury report, it has nothing to do with fairness of play, it’s all about betting.

NIT to experiment with new rules this season • Feb 28, 2018 03:43 PM

Quarters are fine by me, but leave the fouls by the half and take away 1 or 2 timeouts to balance it out.

Move the three point line back to open thing up inside a bit would be ok.

I’m not sure what widening the lane does? Accommodate the bigger players of today?

The offensive rebound shot clock to 20 seconds is supposed to speed things up I guess, but it penalizes good effort down the stretch when you’re trying to run the clock out.
