KU/Big 12 NBA draft decisions thread • May 21, 2022 04:41 PM

@BShark When I open the site, the only thing that shows is a large image. The stories are below, but are quite limited and very few people respond now.

KU/Big 12 NBA draft decisions thread • May 21, 2022 12:22 PM

Now that KUSports.com is unusable and the worst sports website on the internet, where else are you going for KU news? How can the operators of that website be so incompetent?

Next Year's Team Thread • May 08, 2022 08:20 PM

Thanks to everyone for the updates. JWill back to KU then? Fingers crossed. I love his nose for the rebounds.

Next Year's Team Thread • May 08, 2022 06:30 PM

So, what does anyone know or believe will happen with Jalen Wilson? He wasn't invited to the NBA Combine, apparently. G League camp? Or is he working on his perimeter shooting and just doing the right thing and coming back to KU.

I watched most of the Maulers game last weekend; It was great to see Torneden #11 and Moragne #97 in for most of the game. Most people I've talked to aren't impressed or interested in the USFL games. I think the lack of fans for all games except the Birmingham games depresses interest in the games. But, for me its football and I watch parts of one or two games a week. Still better than MLB. Maulers play Sunday at 1:30 Central USA Network against the Michigan Panthers. The Maulers offense is lousy but I'll watch our KU guys and hope they find an NFL team is a couple of months.

BINGE WATCH BINGO- KU TOURNEY GAMES • Apr 30, 2022 12:16 PM

Thanks, Jethro. It pains me to remember how poorly Ochai shot FTs in the second half of the championship game. Painful.

The New Jersey/Birmingham game Saturday night was entertaining and competitive. I didn't recognize a single player or coach's name. The Qbs missed a lot of passes that NFL Qbs make. Also, I didn't see any of the special rules utilized; both teams just kicked extra points instead of the crazy 3 point conversion where the team takes the ball at the 10 yard line. Why wouldn't a team do this every time? Kicking a one point conversion leaves a lot of points on the field. Both teams scored 3 or more TDs last night and could have scored 9 conversion points instead of 3 by kicking. Just a twist that could make these games more interesting.

Yes, the USFL is a crazy experiment with some real twists on extra points. But, its football and I'll watch a bit. Bryce Torneden #22 and Darrius Moragne #97 will play on the Pittsburgh Maulers defense. The first game is Sunday 7 Central on FS1. I looked at the other rosters but didn't see any other KU players. So, Maulers it is. Goooooooooo Maulers.

Weird though, none of the teams except Birmingham Stallions have any connection to their namesake cities. All are housed in Birmingham and all games are played in Birmingham.

Whenever an opposing team plays a 6'7" big, I always consider it an act of desperation. I agree a very unusual player with the right talent may be effective in the post and not be 6'9". But those players are seldom seen. I remember how effective 6'5" Charles Barkley was in the post. I don't understand why KU is having trouble recruiting some real heighth, 6'10"-7 feet. Second half Big Davc against Miami reminds me why a true tall post is still invaluable. Miami had no answer when Dave got the ball inside.

Next Year's Team Thread • Apr 16, 2022 02:48 PM

@jayballer67 May I ask all who post here why everyone places KJ Adams in the big man category? He's listed at 6'7" but when he's on the court he looks smaller than that. Braun is sometimes listed at 6'7" and rebounds well but is always listed as a guard. For me the bigs category starts at 6'9". I don't see many players KJ's size listed as a big forward or center. But, to answer jayman's question, before his superior play in the tourny I would have been against Dave returning. Now, Big Dave gets to do whatever he wants; play center for us, coach, or take Brian Hanni's spot, whatever Dave wants to do. Dave's a champion and not many KU players can make that claim.

2022 Championship Image Gallery • Apr 16, 2022 01:52 PM

When the game was being decided in the last 3 minutes, I keep going back to Remy's block as the most critical play. Championship Remy as I will always think about him was a blur making the block. Our players still had defensive energy during those 3 minutes, while NC players were exhausted and were realizing they couldn't finish with the win.

2022 Championship Image Gallery • Apr 14, 2022 03:30 PM

I'm really going to miss Remy next year. Big Personality. Gee, I feel like we were just getting to know him.

Next Year's Team Thread • Apr 09, 2022 05:03 PM

Will Pettiford qualify for a medical redshirt? Was his injury in the first half of the season and did he play in less than 30% of the season, if these are still the rules? I should have paid more attention during the season.

Next Year's Team Thread • Apr 09, 2022 03:47 PM

@benshawks08 I thought that was interesting too, especially because Jay Wright uses the guard post up. After getting past Villanova, perhaps Coach Self decided to try it since KU was wary of Villanova using the guard post up.

KU/Big 12 NBA draft decisions thread • Apr 09, 2022 01:57 PM

@BShark Please explain "splitting CB and Wilson."

Tarheels Game Thread • Apr 05, 2022 03:24 AM

Out Rebounded 55 to 35. NC put up 73 shots. How did we win this?

Tarheels Game Thread • Apr 05, 2022 02:54 AM

Outrebounded 47 to 34. Come on guys. Wilson only 4 rbs

Are we happy? UNC? • Apr 03, 2022 03:58 PM

It needs to be mentioned that Jalen Wilson is our Dennis Rodman. Man does he get after rbs. Wilson just has a nose for the ball. 12 rbs against Villanova. CB had an off night rebounding-only 3. Let's hope CB comes to play Monday by driving the ball to the rim, rebounding and shooting the 3, not just passing it up.

Are we happy? UNC? • Apr 03, 2022 02:51 PM

Yes, I'm quite happy to be playing NC. Manek was never much of a problem for KU when he was at OU. I assume Wilson will draw most of the defense on Manek. Manek shoots 38% from 3, so KU must do a better job than we did against Villy. Love is playing great; I hope Harris draws most of the defense on Love and steps up like he did against Gillespie. But, Gillespie still went 5/8 from 3, so KU must defend better. In the second half, it seemed our guards were getting caught in the lane when V was able to pass out of the lane for open 3s. Big Dave vs. 6'10" Bacot promises to be the battle to watch. Bacot doesn't shoot the 3, so Dave should be in his element on defense. Query: Why isn't Christian driving the ball? That's when he is at his best.

The Also Ran Game • Apr 03, 2022 12:08 PM

I wonder if there is a betting line on the number of times Roy will be shown on TV during the Championship game. Kind of like the old betting line in the NFL for "Hi Mom."

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:06 PM

@bskeet said in Jay Wrong Game Thread:

Big Dave was Good Dave!

When he's shooting FTs, I call him Freshman Dave. After struggling at the line earlier this year, he's back to his good FT form. RC

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 11:51 PM

Don't forget Harris's 3 3s and his dogged defense all game. RC

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 11:09 PM

What is it going to take for Dave to get a foul call. Broken bones?

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:47 PM

I wish Christian would drive to the rim. Even if he then dishes. It will open him up on the 3 pt line

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:42 PM

Ochai needs to keep shooting. 4/4 early and then quit shooting

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:41 PM

@DCHawker Vill only shot 34% so a lot more rebound opportunities. KU shot 48%

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:32 PM

Ochai fouled on the lob pass; no call. KU never gets a charge call. WTF

I wonder why KU is even showing up today. Wright's guards will score at will by posting up KU's weak-ass guards. Then, Villanova's hot hands will step out and hit 3 after 3. East coast writers must smoke meth before posting their articles. Wright's only concern with KU is team speed. KU will need a much better first half than the Miami game. I sure hope we don't put all our eggs into relying on another strong second half. But, will Ochai and Christian remain tenative on offense? Will we need Remy to get the offense going? So many unknows until the 5:09 start time. RC

Miami Hurricanes Game Thread • Mar 27, 2022 09:40 PM

Anyone else worried about Coach Self's blood pressure? I don't think it was my TV; Bill's face was beet red even before the game started. And I'm sure it wasn't from lounging in the Chicago sunshine.

"WHEN HE'S ON THE COURT, IT'S DIFFERENT" • Mar 27, 2022 12:57 PM

Quite a few fans are calling for Remy to start and get 35 minutes against Miami. We know that isn't going to happen, but Remy deserves it. Also, lots of fans and writers are talking about Waardenburg and that KU has no answer for his 3s. First, Waardenburg only averages 9 points a game for the season. He does shoot 3s at 42%, so I hope KU defenders at least try to guard him. Waardenburg only took 9 shots in 35 minutes last game and 7 were 3s.

6'5" Sr. McGusty is on a hot streak scoring 27 against IState. McGusty averages 18 points a game and hits 36% from 3.

One thing to note, Miami had 0 bench points last game. Only 3 bench players were in the game for a total of 17 minutes and only took 4 shots. Their starting 5 is who KU worries about. Yes, there will be a lot of attention by the media on Charlie. I sure hope Charlie stays the Charlie we know and doesn't become a hero today. Query: Will Ochai and/or Braun break out of their slumps and give us a chance today?

Winning Strategy to Bring Home a Trophy... • Mar 26, 2022 06:23 PM

I too appreciate Wilson's dogged determination. I just wish all the starters played with Wilson's determination. Remy's quick trigger on offense is fine when he scores, but several times a game he shoots too quickly. But I'll take the bad with the good from Remy the rest of the way. KU is only continuing to play because Remy is willing to shoot when our other guards have their heads in the sand.

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 26, 2022 02:27 PM

When CB was called for a charge early in the first half, I thought he would go into his offensive shell for the rest of the first half. Unfortunately, it continued in the second half. CB only took 6 shots in 36 minutes, and only 2 were 3s. But his 10 rebs was close to JWil's 11, so he helped there. I sure hope CB and Ochai find their offense against Miami. Charlie is going to be all over Remy. As diificult as Friday's game was to watch, KU should be able to find more open shots against Miami.

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 26, 2022 01:41 AM

@Bosthawk And Ochai was a no show again.

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 26, 2022 01:30 AM

What do you think about playing Charlie Moore if Miami wins?

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 26, 2022 01:29 AM

How about Remy's one arm hug of Coach when he came out toward the end of the first half. Classic

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 26, 2022 01:16 AM

We still suck at inbounding the ball

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 25, 2022 11:55 PM

@Zabudda KU did leave a lot of points off the board

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 25, 2022 11:54 PM

Remy's 13 Pts and Wilson's 10 rbs are the only good things about this half. Remy has also outrebounded Dave 4-1. Jeez what a half

Friars vs Hawks S16 Game Thread • Mar 25, 2022 10:25 PM

OK let's compare: David McCormack gets the ball in the paint. Immediately, 2 guys, no 3, then 6 guys hack and attack him. Ref calls traveling. Drew Timme gets the ball in the paint against Arkansas. One short dude exhales while Timme is driving and missing his shot. Foul, two FTs for Timme, the greatest college player to ever lace em up. Please tell me Timme is going pro.

Sweet 16 Chat • Mar 25, 2022 12:38 AM

refs trying hard to keep Gonzaga in the game: 18 fouls on the hogs, 10 on the dogs.

NOT Remy?! • Mar 22, 2022 10:38 AM

Who knows the real deal with Self and Remy? Besides the non-hug, I noticed that when Remy came out of the Creighton game at one point he walked by a standing Self and looked at him. Self ignored him and looked down court. It was a point where a coach should have said something encouraging, like "way to go." I don't get it. Maybe Self's slights are just meant to keep Remy more even-tempered, less exhuberate. ??????

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 20, 2022 02:22 PM

I wasn't impressed with Creighton when they played San Diego St. Creighton was behind most of the game. Boy, Creighton didn't even look like the same team yesterday. Creighton must stop wearing our road blue. Everytime their 44 shot and made a 3 I cheered thinking it was Mitch. I got a little tired of their 44 yesterday. On to Providence, another school like St Peter's with a small enrollment. Only some 4,200 undergrads and 700 or so graduate students. Shoot the entire student body could attend the game in United Center's 23,500 seat arena and still leave plenty of room for KU fans.

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 09:58 PM

Remy missed some shots in the second half; probably shot a couple too quickly. But, 7/14 from the field, 4/4 FTs and 7 Rbs. Man, did we need Remy today. Wow

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 09:20 PM

@Zabudda Nope tied for all time wins.

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 09:18 PM

19/20 FTs wins it for the Hawks. RC

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 08:05 PM

Only Remy's scoring has kept us from looking like Baylor.. Come on Ochai, show up for the second half

KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 07:58 PM

Jays are 8/15 from 3, 53%. Maybe someone should guard the 3 ball

At least we got to see many shots of Coach Roy

@DCHawker Really wish the best for Silvio going forward. He didn't look 6'8" in the paint against the Illini. Tough loss for the Mocs.

@jayballer67 I want to root for Texas because I always have in the tournament, but it's OK with me if they lose and slink off the the SEC.
