@mayjay OK, since you said it I'll stop.
@Crimsonorblue22 I've been reading comments over the last few weeks that a 14th would satisfy them. Don't be ticked at me, be ticked at the people who said it.
@SkinnyKansasDude I understand your point but the FBI 's word holds no weight with the NCAA? This is the FBI, they probably laugh at the NCAA's investigations. T
100,000$ and the guy plays. I don't care if it's the kid selling happy meals saying he heard it. That's a wad of cash and I can't believe that he's playing. Of course maybe they know their goose is cooked so they'll play him as a sort of 'why the heck not, we've got nothing to lose'.
So I'm watching Sparty play my Badgers today and of course Bridges is out there. He gets 10 points, 8 boards, and I'm trying to figure out why he is playing. I asked the same thing with Ayton last night.
So of course I start thinking of our own team. We had a young man we kept out and ultimately the NCAA doesn't clear to play. Assuming they had found something it was the right decision of course. But I'm thinking why are these schools playing these dudes? Are they figuring they're already caught so they might as well enjoy the ride since it's all going to fall apart when the other shoe drops and puts them on probation?
I'm proud of KU for doing things the right way, even if there is some dirt on us through this latest crap. I'm pretty upset though watching those guys play. Not sure if Duke's cheater was kept out or any of the others who are active players. But they shouldn't. It seems like such a no brainer. Why are these guys still playing basketball?
I know I got to see our team on ESPN today, but really, this network is the worst. Just look there. Main sports page, scroll down looking for KU story, and there it is, Trae Young 'erupting' for 28 points against KState. No big loud headline for our accomplishment. SMH.
Don't get me wrong, great accomplishment, especially considering they looked kind of dead and out of it 3 weeks ago.
Congrats. I guess some here's season is complete, they got the 14th. NC's don't matter now, right because this record is uniquely ours.
1 seed nearing reality?
No, I don't feel sorry for Sean Miller. Anyone so foolish to discuss 100,000 dollars for a recruit deserves all the repercussions from it. It does make me wonder as a B1G fan if his brother would/has done the same thing at Indiana. If I feel sorry for anyone it's the Zona player and fan who were in the dark about this and now their season is down the tubes and they're left to wonder what they did to deserve this.
I love good old fashioned stats. The youngsters are saying this and that about these non advanced stats and why this effective whatever is better or why you really need to look at PER. I would if I had a PHD in stats! But for me, these are good enough.
I like the stat that he has missed 52 shots from the field all year and missed 53 FT's! Heck, I just looked, Trae Young has missed 60 SHOTS in the last 5 games!
@truehawk93 That's the problem in crap like this. The players who take the money receive no punishment really. They'll leave the school and sign pro deals and make a lot. Sure they cost themselves the rest of their season and maybe a chance at the dance, but they're the ones who hurt everyone else by taking the money in the first place. Really pretty sick deal for all of the innocent players and even for the fans of those teams.
Gonna have to have a special tournament this year. The on probation tournament.
@kjayhawks Pneumonia's no fun when you watch your kids with it. Trust all will go well.
Wait there's a game tomorrow? After this scandal filled news day I kind of forgot.
@mayjay You can tell I'm a dope that doesn't understand doping.
They should just cancel the entire season today. All records to date stand. KU 14 straight conference championships!
@CRH107 Doping is different than using PED's. Doping is injecting your own oxygen enriched blood (which was drawn after a workout) back into your system which gives you an excess of oxygen which can aid your performance.
As for your question, I have little clue as to why a curler would need to do that.
But I do find it interesting that Russian athletic delegation this year were banned from the winter olympics because of, wait for it, blood doping.
When a player with Markell Fultz' ability signs with Washington red flags should be raised immediately. I don't know much about him, but I just think that's evidence that something strange went down.
@JayHawkFanToo Gotcha. Slight difference. KU players have earned the 'right' to do such things. Not sure about Xavier.
After posting yesterday I read about an Xavier player addressing the Cincinnati coach with an F bomb in the hand shake line. Of course Cincy is still Cincy and the coach said he should have gone and fought him. Maybe it's something about Cincinnati!
@mayjay That is a puzzling one. What is the statute of limitations on championship afterglow? The Sox 05 championship is starting to fade in my thrillometer, I'm ready for another. The KU 08 win is also fading leaving me wanting more, especially as our blue blood rivals have won multiple times since then. The Bears 86 Super Bowl was sufficient for quite a number of years, but goodness, we need another one!
@JayHawkFanToo UCONN has 4 national titles in recent years if you count 99 as recent.
@JayHawkFanToo I like the pic, but am trying to figure out the reason it was posted!
I still have two 88 championship t shirts and one 08 t shirt plus a FF tshirt. I don't have any conference championship t shirts. That shows my priority!
Let me ask this question: How many more consecutive titles do we have to win without a an accompanying NC before the streak becomes a burden?
Let me ask another question. Would you mind losing the streak this year (could happen) if we went on and won the NC? I would in a half a heartbeat!
Good discussion, you all have valid points.
OK REHawk, you're dumb!
I would love to see Xavier get the #1 seed and then become the first #1 seed to lose a first round game. They have become my least liked team in America that isn't named Missouri. Even Duke at least gets my grudging respect because they run a clean program.
But Xavier, wow. They were involved in a fracas the other day. Wisconsin played them two years ago in the dance and Xavier strutted all over the court like they were gods gift to college hoops until Koenig drilled them out of the tourney with that amazing 3. This year Xavier comes into Madison to play a suddenly undermanned Badger team which hangs with them, but in the end disappointment. But along the way Xavier shushes the crowd, taunts Badger players and then when they wrapped up the win starts doing the Florida Gator chomp thing towards our crowd. Florida knocked out the Badgers last season on that amazing buzzer beater and so somehow Xavier thinks that they need to remind us fans of it? Totally classless. Don't know how teams that have to play them regularly stand it, but I guarantee if KU had to play them they would be one of ya'lls least favorite teams also.
IDK, I think it removes an edge for us. I was really looking forward to a winner probably takes it matchup Saturday. Would have been more exciting! I also don't care that much about the streak. If somehow playing a defend our crown game on Saturday toughens us up for the dance, I'm more for that. Just me though.
@ZIG Losing by 8? I guess fouling with that time left losing by that much, I probably wouldn't be fouling either.
Well, I'll say it doesn't suck that TT lost tonight! It just took some of the luster off of Saturdays game.
We don't need no help to win the league. I want TTech to win so we can beat them Saturday and win it ourselves.
OSU thinks it's a football school so their fans don't go to basketball games. But it's really not a significant football school either.
@Lulufulu It is fun to discuss. And we really don't know, except,
-
The committee usually treats us very well.
-
The committee has really liked the good matchups and they'll overseed someone else or underseed someone else to make it happen. See Wisconsin last year getting an 8 seed. See KU having to play WSU in 2nd round three years ago.
-
The committee always puts Duke or UNC in first two rounds in NC, but rarely both meaning on average KU plays closer to home than Duke or UNC in the first two rounds. Sorry to ruin everyone's narrative!
-
We'll hear some 12 loss team whining why they had 12 good losses and deserve to dance over a mid major who had only 3 good losses, but zero bad losses.
-
Speaking of whining KU fans (even a few bucketites) will whine about the bracket despite the fact almost every year we're the 1 seed in the midwest bracket meaning we're playing within a days drive of Lawrence for all of the first 4 rounds every year.
@jaybate-1.0 No need to apologize, seeing it just stirred a memory!
@elpoyo HEM has been one of the loudest here to beat the drum of wanting national championships rather than conference championships.
I like this post @jaybate-1-0 because one of my legacies is introducing the term FT defense to our group here!
Was wondering about that a bit too.
@Hawk8086 That is true about Nova. Bill Self was outcoached. Which is rare because Jay Wright is not as good as a coach in my opinion.

@Blown That game was actually on a Good Friday and I was at church...thankfully, although my nephew was texting me with updates! That would have been agonizing to watch.
Oklahoma and Kentucky for the play in 16th seed game!
Shuddering to think how close that 2013 team of ours was to winning it all.
@HighEliteMajor And speaking of that, yesterday I read in the Tribune that Milton Doyle has been playing for the Nets. Earning about 10 minutes a game which with his contract means he's making a nice hourly wage.
The last two seasons we have been bumped by somewhat inferior teams by a poor shooting night in the elite 8. That's my newest concern with this team. Last night obviously it was no problem. Last year in rounds 1,2,3 it was no problem. Then Oregon happened and we were treated like unwelcome guests right here in our own backyard. Do we have the toughness to overcome our deficits 6 nights in a row? We shall see. It would be one of the more unlikely titles, but last night shows it could happen.
We play more like this we just might be a top seed. I still don't want it.
@KUSteve 100 points! Nice!
@Hawk8086 Glad to make you laugh! I'm in the minority with you, heck if you laughed at my lame humor, our minds must be alike because I don't mind Dicky V. He'll champion KU tonight, AFH too. He'll even call it by its' real name! I really don't mind most of them. I'm really glad Mushberger is gone and Howard Cosell too if you remember him.
@mayjay I like that. Henceforth, DG's Pez dispenser move!
My recap was so impressive the other day in its spot on analysis I thought I'd try again.
Trae Young made some shots. Announcers acted like he made 50 shots (about 34 times).
Announcers mentioned Lon Krueger as 1. The only coach to take 5 different teams to the dance (mentioned 16 times). 2. The brother of Freddy Krueger whome Lon doesn't like to talk about.
Doke took some FT's. Announcers mentioned 33 times how his missed FT's cost KU their last game against OU.
Announcers 41 times misnamed Allen Field House as Phog Allen Field House. Wife said 'who cares' when I complained about it 41 times.
ESPN annoyingly split the screen to show Sam Cunliffe tying his shoes. Then they split the screen to show the nacho cheese ladler saying "Phog Allan Field House Nacho Cheese is the the Phog Allen Field Houses of Nacho Cheeses."
Devonte Grahams 40 minutes per game streak is mentioned 28 times, but his All American candidacy is not.
Speaking of DG, he snaps his head clear off throwing it backwards to try to draw a foul.
KU shoots 99 FT's, OU 3. Huggie feels better.
In an attempt to extend the game so many OU players foul Doke that 12 of them foul out. They insert their bus driver, cheerleading coach, Lon's grandson, Lon's wife and a random fan into the game just to finish the game.
Malik Vick happens.
At halftime Holly interviews Lon, and Trae walks by and shouts into the mic "I should have gone to KU".
Lunardi reveals his latest 16 seeds, Kentucky, Guatemala State, Guam State Polytech, and Southern Nunavut Central. Kentucky, whom he puts in a bracket with 1 seed Kansas explaining it's just a coincidence.
The NCAA's bracketing expert, announces that all regionals will henceforth be held in North Carolina. All ACC teams receive an automatic bid to the dance.
Back to the game, KU wins 77-69 which is what I meant to predict last game.
KU fans celebrate as they leave The Phog Allan Field House Immortal Palace of All Sports Arenas.
Big 12 trophy is located, readied for the inevitable awarding of it to its' rightful owner.
@BeddieKU23 They're giving a Gard a pass this year. Lost a ton of experience, and then two season ending injuries. The pressure is mounting however as recruiting misses this year has really begun to mount. He's especially missed on in state kids like Ellenson who went to Marquette for one year, Stone who went to Maryland, and now losing Tyler Herro. Even losing the kid from KC to KU, normally no shame in that, is stinging a bit too. He can point to his last class (this years freshmen who are all decent players and will grow into very good players I think. Next year with a senior Ethan Happ, and healthy experienced players younger than him, they should expect to dance again, but if not, he'll really feel the heat.
El Poyo strikes again!
Most of ya'll probably know this but Princeton came a missed shot away at the horn from being the only 16 seed to knock off a 1 seed when they nearly beat Georgetown. Southern came quite close against Gonzaga about 3 years ago as well. It's bound to happen some day and this could be the year.
