Question • Nov 28, 2016 02:40 AM

Bruce Weber is not a bad coach. He seems to find unranked talent but he cannot seem to hold on to it, and then there is his voice, that gadawful voice that sounds like Mickey Mouse on helium that is worse than nails on chalkboard.

Embiid • Nov 28, 2016 02:27 AM

Embiid's ceiling is unbelievable. He is playing like a veteran and not a rookie; however, he needs to temper his enthusiasm, veterans don't like to be shown up by a rookie.

HEY GUYS • Nov 28, 2016 02:16 AM

Last year KU lost only 2 games all season, to Texas, that was seeded 3 overall but KU got only the 9 overall seed. KU beat the overall 1 seed, USC, in the NCAA tournament and lost to Nebraska who went to win the tournament by beating Texas. The only games KU lost all season were to the two teams that played for the NCAA Championship and finished 30-3... a hard act to follow but looks like this year's team migh be one of destiny. Best of luck to the Lady Jayhawks.

ISU vs Zags • Nov 27, 2016 07:48 PM

The Big 12 apparently is not as far down as many thought. A win by ISU combined with KU and Baylor wins looks good for the conference.

ISU making a come back...

@Texas-Hawk-10

What ever happened to the Alabama QB that wanted to transfer? I understand that KU was mentioned as a potential destination at one time...

EAT AT JOE'S KOREAN BAR B QUE • Nov 27, 2016 07:12 PM

@Fightsongwriter

Yep. The original on Blue Parkway is good, the one they opened in Lenexa not so much and not surprisingly did not last long.

Kansas volleyball at Baylor • Nov 27, 2016 10:54 AM

Congrats Lady Jayhawks on an amazing season. The volleyball program is having one of the best runs of any KU sports program ever. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a dynasty.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Thank you for the excellent summary fir those of us that don't follow football as deeply as we do hoops.

Don't we have a couple of transfer players from Alabama available next season?

This is what I call dunking with authority. 😳

EAT AT JOE'S KOREAN BAR B QUE • Nov 27, 2016 10:32 AM

@globaljaybird

There are a number of new joint but the older ones are still the best. Fiorellas is very good but a little too foo-foo. Gates has a lot of lovers but it has become the equivalent of overpriced fast food BBQ. You forgot one the classics, the Rosedale BBQ on Southwest Blvd., very unassuming but always good.

EAT AT JOE'S KOREAN BAR B QUE • Nov 27, 2016 10:22 AM

@drgnslayr

For the locals in KC, Joe's Kansas City is now widely considered the best. It has 3 locations, the original gas station, Olathe and Leawood. It was originally called Oklahoma Joe's but the name was changed a few years back; the owner indicated they had not had an affiliation to the original for over 20 years and hence the new name. There is a contest in KC every year similar to March madness where they start with different BBQ joints pitted head to head with the winner advancing and Joe's KC regularly wins. It is also usually at the top of most ratings of KC barbecue published by various food trade magazines. Their burnt ends are my favorite but most days they run out of them early.

@JayHawkFanToo IS that the Same Scott Drew that just got through Coaching against Louisville?

Things always return to the mean. Yes, he did a good job against Louisville but soon he will go back to blowing big games, hopefully against KU.

EAT AT JOE'S KOREAN BAR B QUE • Nov 26, 2016 05:08 PM

@drgnslayr

The presidents go there because it is traditional and it is the politically correct place to go; not a bad place mind you, but its ratings are based mostly on past reputation. Having eaten at just about every BBQ place in the KC area, Bryant's is in my opinion overrated...and way, way too greasy; several better BBQ places in KC.

Gonna be an interesting season • Nov 26, 2016 05:01 PM

No question that Baylor has been the surprise team so far and they do have a couple of impressive wins. Unfortunately for them, they still have Scott Drew that will manage to screw up as he usually does.

Prediction Time • Nov 26, 2016 04:57 PM

I believe KU will stay competitive in the first half and KSU will pull away in the second. I sure hope I am wrong and KU pulls a second upset in a row to end the season on what would be an ubber high note.

EAT AT JOE'S KOREAN BAR B QUE • Nov 26, 2016 04:52 PM

@Lulufulu

No more Oklahoma Joe's, It is now called Joe's Kansas City and it is the best in KC ,IMHO. The Olathe location is about 10 minutes from my home; the only drawback is that they don't open on Sundays...

Bragg was not eligible to be drafted after last season; he was not old enough.

OH NO, NOT AGAIN ? • Nov 23, 2016 11:08 PM

Cheat your way into mediocrity...well,,,that's MU for you.

Kenny Wooten • Nov 23, 2016 08:27 PM

@sfbahawk @Crimsonorblue22

If the NBA thinks he can contribute, he will go. Diallo played and showed a lot less than Bragg and went anyway.

Let's not be too harsh on Bragg. He started 5 games and is averaging 18.6 mpg, 8.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg, he also has 3 blocks. His number are not really that bad although they certainly not up top the expectations. I mentioned before that Bragg was untested and with quite a different body than the one he had last season and he is still getting used to it and we should temper our expectations. We need to give him some time before completely writing him off as I sense some posters have already done. Remember Perry? he kept missing and missing until one game the light went on and he became one of the more solid players we have had in a while; let's hope Bragg will have the same awakening.

UT TAKING A BEATING THIS WEEK • Nov 23, 2016 04:51 PM

@KUSTEVE @drgnslayr

In today's environment money drives the train. Why would a school spend large sums of money to get a kid that will stay only one year and has no intention getting a degree? Isn't the objective of a University to have students attend classes and finish their studies with a degree? Doesn't the OAD phenomenon go against everything colleges stand for? The only answer is money...sad but true.

The moment Shaka Smart becomes a financial liability he will be gone.

KU BIGS • Nov 23, 2016 04:34 PM

@BShark

2 of the fouls on Lucas were just ridiculous, particularly the one the announcers indicated and replay clearly showed it was a charging and not a blocking foul on Lucas.

Refereeing is quickly becoming a big issue because of the inconsistent way the games are being called. The Indiana- Fort Wayne had 28 fouls called, KU - Georgia 38, Tennessee - Oregon 49, UNC - OSU 48, KU - Indiana 63, KU - Duke 48. Wichita State - Md Easter Shore 60. As comparison, KU averaged 18.9 fouls per game last season; the Big 12 leader was ISU with 15.5 and at the other extreme was WVU with 23.5 fouls per game. I would guess the average game should have between 30 and 40 fouls called anything over 50 and you have problems and 60 should raise all kinds of red flags. The same Indiana team had its last game when 28 fouls total were called and 63 called in the KU game...does it make sense?

The new rules penalize teams like KU that play tough defense since now all the advantage goes to the offensive player and the excessive number of calls disrupt the game and prevent both teams from establishing any type pf tempo or continuity when play is constantly interrupted by foul calls. Much like chuildren, refs should be seen and not heard.

Hammonds 6 points, fouled out, Forte 2 points, 4 fouls...no way OSU stays competitive with these 2 players with these numbers.

KU/GEORGIA GAME CHAT • Nov 23, 2016 05:22 AM

KU/GEORGIA GAME CHAT • Nov 23, 2016 04:44 AM

Texas has 4 assists in loss to Colorado. Nothing says lack of team play and poor coaching like 4 assists in one game.

KU/GEORGIA GAME CHAT • Nov 23, 2016 04:36 AM

Fort Wayne beats Indiana in OT.

OK yes I know but/ recruiting • Nov 23, 2016 02:27 AM

@BShark

I respectfully disagree. First Selby did not play 9 games at the beginning of the season which placed him way behind other players and when he played he did relatively well but it was obvious that he need an extra year. He chose to leave early and even with all this baggage he was select ed in the second round. He was co-MVP with Damian Lillard in the Summer League but was never able to stay with any one team long enough; I will guess that other issues and not talent prevented him from reaching his potential, and I don't believe there is anything KU did or did not do that could have changed this. He has been removed over 5 years from KU and most of the younger players probably do not know much about him if at all. BTW, he is playing in the Turkish Basketball League.

UT TAKING A BEATING THIS WEEK • Nov 23, 2016 02:17 AM

The final score was 68-54, not even close to a very pedestrian Colorado team. He has the most talent in the conference after KU. I told you that Shaka was overrated and basically a legend in his own mind. Looks like he will not breaking his streak of not winning conference titles any time soon.

Big 12 Games - Change • Nov 23, 2016 02:10 AM

The choice for the 2008 Orange Bowl was not between KU and Missouri but between KU and Oklahoma.. MU had lost two games and was out of the running. The Big 12 and the Orange Bowl reached and agreement to have Oklahoma replace Kansas in the Orange Bowl and the proposal was presented by Big 12 Commissioner Beebe to the BCS committee which rejected the proposal and kept KU; OU ended up in the Fiesta Bowl.. It is generally acknowledge that Lou Perkins single handedly and through his contacts kept KU in the Orange Bowl and it became his biggest contribution as AD.

Frontline • Nov 23, 2016 01:30 AM

@BeddieKU23

Absolutely agree. KU has been playing the 4-1 scheme quite a bit later which takes the scoring weight from the bigs some. We are still seeing team double teaming Lucas, something they could not do last season with Perry around because they were actually double teaming him and Lucas took full advantage of that. Sooner rather than later they will have to guard every player or get killed by the unguarded player and we should see much better numbers from Lucas and hopefully Bragg and Udoka.

I would like to see more of Lightfoot. He has a knack for drawing fouls but he also has a knack for not making the free throws, something that needs to be corrected.

GEORGIA BULLDOGS CHAT AWAY • Nov 23, 2016 01:21 AM

KU has a big mismatch withe bigs...if they show up. Their tallest players is 6'-9" so we should have a decent advantage inside. Maybe this is the game when the bigs have "big" games?

Cowboys vs Roys boys • Nov 23, 2016 01:18 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

9:30 PM CST and looks like it will be on ESPN.

@Barney

Me too. That was perhaps the most bizarre ending to a pivotal game ever...in the midst of the Cold War no less.

@wissox

The clock malfunctions a lot more often than you think. I see games being stopped all the time, both in college and in the NBA, so the refs can correct/reset the clock. If this particular last second clock malfunction reminds you of a different one, there are literally hundreds considerable better known, many even include KU, that are closer (last second) to the one discussed, that is all I was trying to convey...no malice intended as @Jaybate would say...and yes, the USA - USSR Olympic game involved an end of game clock that decided the game, unlike the KU - MSU game when the clock malfunction happened two+ minutes before the end of the game and did not decide the outcome. I don't get why when I make a comment about something you post you take it as a personal attack; half of the time I simple read the post and hit reply without really paying much attention to who the poster is. Having said that, I am sorry I made a comment about your post without knowing what is in your mind rather than your post; in the future, I will refrain from commenting on any thing you post since I really don't need to keep justifying my opinion....in a forum where the gist is to express ideas freely. Peace out.

@wissox

The KU -MSU example is kind of apples and oranges, don't you think? The clock malfunction happened with over two minutes left in the game and there were many more plays before the end of the game. The call in question in this thread involved less than 2 seconds, was the last play of the game and decided the game. Other than the fact that both involve uncorrected clock malfunctions, there is no other similarity I can think.

@Kcmatt7

I can't imagine hiring an OC that will make more than the HC. I can't think of a single case where that has happened; perhaps you do. All academic now anyway.

Ten Random thoughts on Siena • Nov 21, 2016 01:19 PM

@Lulufulu

KY had a pretty well kept fro, the new style is more along the lines of what we used to call "bed head."

@Texas-Hawk-10

What are the chances Kingbury comes to KU not as a head coach?

Texas and the Ohio State have by far the bigger AD budgets and the resources to rebuilt relatively quickly. Texas has the best recruiting base of any school and with the right coach they will be back as powerhouse very soon...provided they do not screw up on their coach selection.

Duke/Vitale wedding coming • Nov 20, 2016 09:11 PM

Giles is a very skilled player that might end up being a big asset for Duke...or he could be the next Greg Oden, NBA edition.

He only played one game for them after transferring from Memphis and sitting out one year. I don't believe it will affect the team that much.
